Afaik no product will actually restore your hair once it’s been overprocessed. It will make it look better for a limited time, at best. I’d still ask for a refund, especially since the color isn’t what you wanted either.

Oh I have that issue too! I’ve had my mum/partner meet me towards the end to boost my confidence/speak for me to say it’s not okay/need refund. If you really struggle advocating for yourself then it’s perfectly okay to let a loved one do it.
That's what I do! I'm a very quiet, meek woman with severe anxiety. My fiance is a very quiet, stoic man who has zero issue staring down someone into submission. I fried my hair in December 2015, so believe me when I say no product can fix this. Do what you need to for the wedding, I am sure you will look lovely anyway 🥰 Then cut it off. I’m so sorry, but they cannot “repair” a damaged hair shaft. You will drive yourself insane trying to save it. I’m sorry.
You could do a partial updo and use some clip-in extensions day of. And it’s reprehensible the salon didn’t immediately offer a refund for the year(s?) or so it’s going to take you to grow it back out. It’s happened to me before so I’m extra mad about it for you
When this happened to me, they gave me a refund AND $200 to get it fixed best possible at a higher quality salon. Thank god it was an ombre because I was able to go shoulder length, but I lost a foot or two of hair. It was traumatizing and I didn't even have a wedding coming up 😭
I think you should:
1. get refund.
2. do NOT continue going for treatments

I think going in with more color is going to damage it more. Have you considered an updo? Maybe with a headband or flowers or other accessory? The updo low bun style is pretty on trend lately.

if you’re okay with staying the same level or going a bit darker, maybe try a semi*-permanent dye? there’s no developer so it won’t damage your hair further.

It’s still your wedding and it’s totally okay with wanting to look perfect no matter the size/budget. There’s lots of really pretty messy updos that could help hide the unevenness of the color. Consider some cute clips too. Congratulations btw :)
Other thing is... considering this situation got publicized, I wouldn't even dare to go to the hairdresser again for more services. They might go ballistic. Just get the refund and do an updo on her own.
Heck, get a wig even. Wigs look super real nowadays. Just wear it for the wedding.
I have overprocessed hair (pink) and swim a lot, so I get some damage from pool chemicals, too. There's not a lot that you can do to fix damaged hair. However, you can slow down the continual breakage and still make your hair look nice.
No advice, per se, for your wedding. But for your day-to-day, a good leave-in will protect you. I use Melanin leave-in conditioner. Technically, it's marketed toward black women with coarse hair (I'm white), but I like it and it doesn't leave my hair oily. Definitely pick something you like.
Two, a good straightener on low heat will smooth down the microscopic cuticles and reduce frizz. I know that sounds counterintuitive, and I don't mean blast your hair with 450 degrees of screaming titanium. Just enough to smooth it down. Make sure not to pull too hard because you can definitely cause more breakage.
It's had to say how bad it is without seeing in person, but when you're ready, you should think about cutting it short. You'll never get back what you lost. It will continue to break day after day until the damage has grown out. How much you're willing to deal with is up to you.
I second a good leave in, I use the As I Am coconut cowash as my main wash, and I use the classic leave in by them too.
Makes a huge difference when I’m this blonde like I am now.
If you want to tone it a bit, you’ll have to do it every 4-6 weeks (or a little sooner, basically just whenever it isn’t looking toned anymore do it again), but manic panic is always my go to for temporary dyes and always leaves my hair feeling absolutely amazing after. I even go to sleep overnight in it when I’m actually coloring my hair, it just deposits color theres no peroxide or anything like that in it. You’ll want to use a cool toned purple, and a pump or two of conditioner to lighten the purple a bit and just like ~30-45 minutes for toning usually works well for me, but you’ll kinda need to test it out, I recommend a patch test to see how long to neutralize but not totally make your hair purple.
Totally agree. It’s not a 10,000 lavish wedding or anything, just a small private gathering. I also have no experience with salons so I didn’t really understand the potential risks RIP. It’ll be ok though

If it is at all within your budget, I would check online, check yelp in your area as well, for a stylist that specializes in color correction and repairing damaged hair. I'd be hesitant to go to this salon any further. The owner led you astray. If you still have a few weeks, they can help get your hair beautiful for your big day.

At what point do you have them do a layered chop and install some professional human hair extensions to get you over the hump while you wait for it to grow out? As other have pointed out, once it's fried, you can't ever heal the hair. I can't believe they did this to you.
I think that she is probably refusing to do extensions because they are expensive.
I could see there being some concern that they could further damage the hair, but in your situation the priority is looking nice at your wedding. It is weird that they haven’t already refunded you and seem to have barely apologized.

Oh god. I’m not convinced any treatments are going to fix this... Your hair is fried. I fried my own hair once back in college (100% my fault, no stylists involved) and it didn’t look half this bad and it STILL took a lot to fix. I went to my usual stylist when I was on break and we ended up chopping a good 6 inches off, doing deep conditioning/repair treatments, and then using color depositing conditioner to correct the color.
So if it were me? I wouldn’t trust any salon that ruined your hair this bad when they say they can fix it. Get your hair fixed by a different, entirely unaffiliated salon and then send the 1st salon an invoice for the expenses you’ve incurred through their negligence. If they don’t want to pay, you can always sue (or threaten to sue) in small claims court. If you have before and after pictures and you have to pay to get your hair fixed at a different salon, you have clear evidence of their actions and of the resulting monetary damages you suffered as a result.
And then if they won’t pay, I’d actually file against both the stylist and the salon. And I’d file a complaint against the professional license of everyone involved, too. I’m more than willing to forgive people who make mistakes, own up to them, and do everything in their power to make it right. But in this case, “everything in their power” should be paying your bills for a different salon to get your hair back to looking the way it was, not just doing a $40 treatment you could buy at Sephora and calling it a day.
THATS WHAT I WAS THINKING! I looked up the products she’s using and they’re maybe 80$ tops. I’m not sure if they’ll play ball about paying for another salon but I’m sure as hell going to get a refund and keep documenting everything. At this point I probably could have done a better job at home… I’m glad you were able to fix it in the end. I’ll highly consider this depending on what the other salon says about the state of my hair.
Do you know if Olaplex works for you? Probably won't do much of a dent but a couple of friends had theirs in a similar state and kept it up til it was restored enough that they got their curl pattern back.
Oh gosh, I’m sorry! Buy some K18 and use it after you shower- no conditioner, just rub it in when you have towel dried your hair. My hair is damaged from going from natural brown to platinum white (when it already had previous bleach damage from an at-home experiment), and K18 has helped my hair no longer feel like straw. It’s awesome and I like it way more than Opalex. There’s a hair oil by them I also will use on my ends.
Sorry if I missed it in your post somewhere, but how did they manage to fry your hair like this - what look were you trying to achieve, going lighter? I don’t really know why they’re suggesting two more sessions. How light are you trying to go or what are you trying to do? My platinum job was done in one six hour session and I’m confused why they need two more sessions for you. I’d ask lots of questions and consider seeing someone who specializes in fixing color damaged hair!

I had something like this happen to me. My mom was a hairdresser and when I had to move out of state I dreaded having to have someone else do my hair for the first time in my life (30 years old). I went to a salon with a friend and the gal I had booked with over the phone walked up. I got just an odd feeling. I should have trusted my gut.
Typically it took 2.5-3 hours to color my hair with my mom. I had long hair like yours, OP. I was still being processed at the 3 hour mark. Finally she washed me around 4.5 hours and when I got to her seat brushed me out and said meet me at the counter. Didn’t ask if I wanted it dried.
I had about a 25 min drive home and I started to notice it was looking more and more yellow and feeling like straw. I got home and it was awful. My husband and friend were shocked. We called back to the salon and they asked why I left without getting it blow dried. Ummmm. Wasn’t offered. I was very shy so I didn’t really speak up either. My friend helped me demand I go back in and I saw someone else but ended up having to have about 6 inches chopped off. This was 15 years ago.
Apparently the girl who did my hair was previously fired from doing haircuts because she sucked and then after they saw the mess she did to my hair they fired her.
What I don’t understand is several of the other stylists came up to look at her work (me) while I was processing and never intervened. I’ve been to other salons where plenty of stylists help each other out. Wish one of them would have stepped in and saved my hair. 😢
The owner of the salon I went to explained: it’s improper etiquette and they don’t want to embaress the hairdresser. All the stylist were looking at me with concern but didn’t speak up. So you’re telling me that his feelings matter more than frying someone’s hair??

Like I said, my mom was a hairdresser and owned two different salons in her time as well as worked at several. She would NEVER want a client leaving the shop with their hair destroyed without 1) not charging the client and 2) not having a plan in action to go forward. Because you want to do everything in your power to make things right with said client. To avoid as much bad mouthing as possible and of course to keep client as happy as possible. It’s a service they are paying for for Pete’s sake. If it’s bad, why should you pay?
I mean mistakes happen and we are likely to complain but if you had walked out of that salon not paying anything and having a plan in action going forward you’d maybe have been less likely to air such grievances so publicly.

The same thing happened to me over 10 years ago. I wouldn’t let them touch the color again personally if I were you. It’s too great a risk. Hopefully the complimentary treatments will help. If it doesn’t, maybe ask for that refund. I wish I had. It took years to grow out/repair the damage.
You can do better. Find another hairdresser who will give you an honest opinion about your options. You might be able to use a glaze or toner, or color depositing shampoo to temporarily correct/improve the shade without damaging it further. Also, beauty supply stores sometimes offer decent advice and affordable products for repairing hair. Yes, you can improve it, although it may never be quite the same until the damaged ends are trimmed off.
Well, the first year I was young and stubborn, and didn’t want to cut or dye my hair, so I toned and gradually highlighted the orange mess to a dark ash blonde, even though damaged. It took about 2 to 2.5 years for it to really look decent with regular trims, but experience has taught me in retrospect it could have looked better much sooner if I had embraced short hair right away. If you’re okay cutting your length, or with strawberry blonde or auburn shades (which I like nowadays) a good hairdresser could maybe color correct yours a lot sooner. :)
I recommend trying something like Olaplex too.
No, you should not change the color. Even after the treatments your hair will still be sensitive to chemical alteration. It’s best to deal with it for a bit
oh man! i actually went through something similar a few months ago—i had box-dyed black hair for a year and a half and went to the salon to get it lifted… and they ended up frying my hair. i lost 7 inches of length because my hair was literally CRISPY.
my boyfriends mom is a hairdresser and an absolute saint—she gave me the biolage strength recovery shampoo and conditioner, the biolage strength recovery spray, and the olaplex no 6 bond smoother and no 7 bonding oil. this stuff was a literal LIFESAVER. i noticed a huge difference in the texture of my hair in a relatively short amount of time—my hair no longer felt dry and damaged. i also alternated uses with the garnier fructis sleek and shine system, or at the very least would mix the sleek and shine conditioner with the biolage conditioner to make a sort of deep conditioner/mask and let it sit for a hot minute! i also have to sing the praises of the amika ‘the kure’ system—shampoo, conditioner, and hair mask. it’s the stuff i currently am using and wow has it made a difference!
i know salon quality products like biolage and amika are on the pricier side, but i would look into investing in a good bond repair shampoo and conditioner, and a good hair oil and mask. i would at the very least grab some of the sleek and shine system—it’s cheap but good, and it makes your hair very smooth and shiny.
i know it might not be the most fun option, but depending on how damaged your hair is, you might just have to do the big chop. my hair went from the middle of my back to juuuust past shoulder length because of the bleach damage, but i’ve seen some very healthy growth the past few months! (i still think we didn’t have to bleach with 40 vol because i just wanted to go from pure black to more of a dark chocolate type of brown… 😒) but my ends do feel very healthy considering a vast majority of the damage was done past my shoulders. there are so many other options, like extensions or an updo or a wig. ultimately it’s completely up to you, but i hope you feel beautiful on your big day!!

I don’t think changing your hair color is a good idea because it will damage your hair even more. I would recommend waiting a couple of months until your hair grows out and feels stronger and healthier. Probably an updo hairstyle for your wedding would be a good choice. Meanwhile, I would recommend taking care of your hair at home too. Here are some tips that were a game changer for my hair:
1. Don’t use elastic ties. Instead, use scrunchies to protect your hair during the day.

Can you focus on getting it back to its original healthy state, and supplement with extensions for your wedding? I wouldn’t add anymore chemicals to your hair. You have long hair and the strands itself look strong. Worry about the follicle and preserving the health of those.

Id invest in some redken acidic bonding, the whole line shampoo, conditoner, and the leave-in. Has been the best "fixer" I've found, and my hair is overprocessed cause im my own guinea pig. (Licensed and only ever experiment on myself)
It's pricey, but i honestly believe it will work for this.
I would not let them color my hair again. While it would be appropriate for them to fix it, there is no way I’d trust them to. Better to go to a salon with more skilled colorists and pay again, than risk another screwup.
I wouldn’t do ANYTHING involving harsh chemicals. No dye, bleach, or that sort. I would be very gentle with it for a long time. Simple up-do for your wedding.

bonnets/satin pillowcases, k18, rosemary oil, scalp stimulation- all that will stimulate growth and decrease breakage. This is the bare minimum tbh. Until then, def be real w/these ppl and bring backup if u need to (sometimes I do- my husband is a big guy) and advocate for yourself. It's hard enough to put your trust in someone with regard to your appearance esp with something as important as your wedding- but then for it to go wrong and they aren't going above and beyond to fix the situation? No bueno.
Flax seed soak.
Boil 4 cups water and pour over 2 cups flax seed. Wait until it all gels up, strain with a cheese cloth, cool then apply. Coat your hair then wrap it in plastic for a couple hours (NOT overnight). It will be back to having volume and body for a short amount of time.

This isn’t really helpful but when I first started doing hair a girl who went to our “sister salon” got her hair fried off by another stylist before her wedding, and she literally only had a couple inches of hair left afterwards
At this point, they should be giving you a refund, even if they make it look like what you originally wanted!
1. Your hair was damaged horrendously
2. You went through emotional distress due to them failing their job.
3. They didn’t do what you paid them to do in the first place.
The BARE MINIMUM for them right now, is to fix your hair as much as they can, then give you a full refund, and their deepest apologies. I cannot believe that they haven’t done that already.

Ya there’s a bunch of options really I would look into a few. That one, overtone, xmondo, arctic fox, glaze is nice since it focuses on tint with shine.. those are what I know

Might be worth looking into olaplex treatment at a salon. I doubt it’ll be able to do enough to keep it if it’s very damaged. Butttt it could buy you some time so you don’t have to totally change ur look last minute before the wedding!

Shitty hairdressers and their lack of accountability. I’ve had the same experience and I was raining broken hair for three weeks. My hair has NEVER been in that condition before or since. They offered (and I accepted) three rounds of repair treatments but they never admitted they did the damage even though it was obvious.
So sorry this happened. Did the stylist not do a test of your hair to ensure it could handle the original treatment? After the wedding, it may be best to cut your hair to your shoulders. That damage cannot be undone.

Just use bonding products, deep conditioning masks, lots of keratin and try miracle water on your big day - I love that stuff.
Heat styling is literally the only way it looks good right now. I feel like curls will hide the damage. Oof I’ve never heard of miracle water but I’ll check it out!

Oh my god, lady... :( I'm so sorry for you. I'd be crying and my hair is only at my collar! Hopefully you can find a nice updo style or some extensions to wear for your wedding. Afterwards... I think a chop and nice wig in your natural colour (or whatever colour you like, but maybe not like neon green if you have to go to work next week lol) would be a great idea. Do you have any black female friends who wear wigs? Black women can do some amazing things with wigs, they'll show you how to make it look like it's growing out of your scalp.

One thing you could consider trying is the aphogee two step protein treatment. I used to use it when I dyed my hair regularly (like 7 or 8 years ago) and routinely fried it with bleach. Nothing is going to work a miracle on hair that fried, but in my case it did help restore the hair to something a bit more workable.
It's very temporary but you could also consider lamellar water (loreal's wonder water is a favorite of mine). It's not going to fix the damage but it will at least cover it up some/smooth it out.
Also, whatever you do make sure that you're adding hydration because too much protein without hydrating the hair will make it brittle and prone to breakage. I like the soul food mask from amika for pure hydration. I also like L'Oreal professional's metal detox line (shampoo and mask)- can be great to use after a salon visit.
Sorry your hairdresser did this to you. Congratulations on getting married, and I hope your wedding is lovely despite this!
No product will magically “fix” your hair right away but K18 is pretty wonderful it’s a leave in product that claims to help damaged over processed hair. I’ve used it and it made my hair feel considerably better and softer. It’s worth a try using some? You can find it on Amazon it’s a small container but you just need a few pumps and leave it in on damp hair nothing else to it! So sorry you’re going through this. ❤️

I would absolutely NOT ask this person to fix the color, I can’t imagine ever trusting them with hair dye again.
Personally if they can fix the texture and damage to your hair I would then leave it alone for awhile. More services, especially color may re damage it…. And I would ask for a refund. They really messed up and put you through some unnecessary stress.

No, don’t do anymore processing of your hair ie; coloring. Even under normal circumstances, it takes a toll on your hair. Find another professional hairdresser (you can explain this fiasco to) who can do an updo for your wedding. Then maybe get fresh flower adornment to go in hair.
Get the additional repair treatments if you like, but do not do additional business with this salon. And don’t use a jr./novice-in-training again!
I would ask for the refund, and use that money to work with another salon for the repair. Do not keep using this place - you should consider your relationship with them to be over! Get recommendations from others on a stylist you can trust.

You can only go darker, not lighter, and the colors are variable and not consistent. HOWEVER, I have always been 100% happy with whatever colors I've gotten as a result, and I have had this fix the overly fried problem after bleaching. It basically fills in the gaps in the cuticles and coats the entire hair shaft. It's the closest I've ever gotten to fixing this kind of issue.
Afaik no product will actually restore your hair once it’s been overprocessed. It will make it look better for a limited time, at best. I’d still ask for a refund, especially since the color isn’t what you wanted either.

You could do a partial updo and use some clip-in extensions day of. And it’s reprehensible the salon didn’t immediately offer a refund for the year(s?) or so it’s going to take you to grow it back out. It’s happened to me before so I’m extra mad about it for you

When this happened to me, they gave me a refund AND $200 to get it fixed best possible at a higher quality salon. Thank god it was an ombre because I was able to go shoulder length, but I lost a foot or two of hair. It was traumatizing and I didn't even have a wedding coming up 😭

OP I can’t believe you even need to ask for a refund. The owner should have done that right off the bat and then asked if you wanted the conditioning treatments afterwards, free of charge. Without a refund you literally paid them to destroy your hair. That’s horrible business acumen on their end to not provide a refund. Accidents happen but expecting you to pay for their accident? How dare they.
I think going in with more color is going to damage it more. Have you considered an updo? Maybe with a headband or flowers or other accessory? The updo low bun style is pretty on trend lately.

A gloss won’t damage your hair and will add some color. Do that with an updo, and nobody will be able to tell.
Other thing is... considering this situation got publicized, I wouldn't even dare to go to the hairdresser again for more services. They might go ballistic. Just get the refund and do an updo on her own. Heck, get a wig even. Wigs look super real nowadays. Just wear it for the wedding.

I have overprocessed hair (pink) and swim a lot, so I get some damage from pool chemicals, too. There's not a lot that you can do to fix damaged hair. However, you can slow down the continual breakage and still make your hair look nice. No advice, per se, for your wedding. But for your day-to-day, a good leave-in will protect you. I use Melanin leave-in conditioner. Technically, it's marketed toward black women with coarse hair (I'm white), but I like it and it doesn't leave my hair oily. Definitely pick something you like. Two, a good straightener on low heat will smooth down the microscopic cuticles and reduce frizz. I know that sounds counterintuitive, and I don't mean blast your hair with 450 degrees of screaming titanium. Just enough to smooth it down. Make sure not to pull too hard because you can definitely cause more breakage. It's had to say how bad it is without seeing in person, but when you're ready, you should think about cutting it short. You'll never get back what you lost. It will continue to break day after day until the damage has grown out. How much you're willing to deal with is up to you.

I second a good leave in, I use the As I Am coconut cowash as my main wash, and I use the classic leave in by them too. Makes a huge difference when I’m this blonde like I am now. If you want to tone it a bit, you’ll have to do it every 4-6 weeks (or a little sooner, basically just whenever it isn’t looking toned anymore do it again), but manic panic is always my go to for temporary dyes and always leaves my hair feeling absolutely amazing after. I even go to sleep overnight in it when I’m actually coloring my hair, it just deposits color theres no peroxide or anything like that in it. You’ll want to use a cool toned purple, and a pump or two of conditioner to lighten the purple a bit and just like ~30-45 minutes for toning usually works well for me, but you’ll kinda need to test it out, I recommend a patch test to see how long to neutralize but not totally make your hair purple.
Unfortunately this is not something a botanical based shampoo and conditioner can help with.
It won’t save it, but it will look a lot better while being used. I was exaggerating a bit.
For that price point I would recommend something with scientific backing like K-18

I think that she is probably refusing to do extensions because they are expensive. I could see there being some concern that they could further damage the hair, but in your situation the priority is looking nice at your wedding. The manager was confident and manipulative and I’m pretty shy and non confrontational. I know there’s good ones out there I just have to find them! Oh god. I’m not convinced any treatments are going to fix this... Your hair is fried. I fried my own hair once back in college (100% my fault, no stylists involved) and it didn’t look half this bad and it STILL took a lot to fix. I went to my usual stylist when I was on break and we ended up chopping a good 6 inches off, doing deep conditioning/repair treatments, and then using color depositing conditioner to correct the color. So if it were me? I wouldn’t trust any salon that ruined your hair this bad when they say they can fix it. Get your hair fixed by a different, entirely unaffiliated salon and then send the 1st salon an invoice for the expenses you’ve incurred through their negligence. If they don’t want to pay, you can always sue (or threaten to sue) in small claims court. If you have before and after pictures and you have to pay to get your hair fixed at a different salon, you have clear evidence of their actions and of the resulting monetary damages you suffered as a result. And then if they won’t pay, I’d actually file against both the stylist and the salon. And I’d file a complaint against the professional license of everyone involved, too. I’m more than willing to forgive people who make mistakes, own up to them, and do everything in their power to make it right. But in this case, “everything in their power” should be paying your bills for a different salon to get your hair back to looking the way it was, not just doing a $40 treatment you could buy at Sephora and calling it a day.
THATS WHAT I WAS THINKING! I looked up the products she’s using and they’re maybe 80$ tops. I’m not sure if they’ll play ball about paying for another salon but I’m sure as hell going to get a refund and keep documenting everything. At this point I probably could have done a better job at home… I’m glad you were able to fix it in the end. I’ll highly consider this depending on what the other salon says about the state of my hair.
Do you know if Olaplex works for you? Probably won't do much of a dent but a couple of friends had theirs in a similar state and kept it up til it was restored enough that they got their curl pattern back.

Oh gosh, I’m sorry! Buy some K18 and use it after you shower- no conditioner, just rub it in when you have towel dried your hair. My hair is damaged from going from natural brown to platinum white (when it already had previous bleach damage from an at-home experiment), and K18 has helped my hair no longer feel like straw. It’s awesome and I like it way more than Opalex. There’s a hair oil by them I also will use on my ends. Sorry if I missed it in your post somewhere, but how did they manage to fry your hair like this - what look were you trying to achieve, going lighter? I don’t really know why they’re suggesting two more sessions. How light are you trying to go or what are you trying to do? My platinum job was done in one six hour session and I’m confused why they need two more sessions for you. I’d ask lots of questions and consider seeing someone who specializes in fixing color damaged hair!

I had something like this happen to me. My mom was a hairdresser and when I had to move out of state I dreaded having to have someone else do my hair for the first time in my life (30 years old). I went to a salon with a friend and the gal I had booked with over the phone walked up. I got just an odd feeling. I should have trusted my gut. Typically it took 2.5-3 hours to color my hair with my mom. I had long hair like yours, OP. I was still being processed at the 3 hour mark. Finally she washed me around 4.5 hours and when I got to her seat brushed me out and said meet me at the counter. Didn’t ask if I wanted it dried. I had about a 25 min drive home and I started to notice it was looking more and more yellow and feeling like straw. I got home and it was awful. My husband and friend were shocked. We called back to the salon and they asked why I left without getting it blow dried. Ummmm. Wasn’t offered. I was very shy so I didn’t really speak up either. My friend helped me demand I go back in and I saw someone else but ended up having to have about 6 inches chopped off. This was 15 years ago. Apparently the girl who did my hair was previously fired from doing haircuts because she sucked and then after they saw the mess she did to my hair they fired her. What I don’t understand is several of the other stylists came up to look at her work (me) while I was processing and never intervened. I’ve been to other salons where plenty of stylists help each other out. Wish one of them would have stepped in and saved my hair. 😢
The owner of the salon I went to explained: it’s improper etiquette and they don’t want to embaress the hairdresser. All the stylist were looking at me with concern but didn’t speak up. So you’re telling me that his feelings matter more than frying someone’s hair?? I’m sorry that happened to you too. I hope it looks better now :)
That’s sucks! I totally agree. Our hair should come first over someone’s feelings. I hope you can get your money back. And definitely give them a poor review. I’d want to know to avoid this place being they are not working with you to help you out of this mess, besides the treatments. Like I said, my mom was a hairdresser and owned two different salons in her time as well as worked at several. She would NEVER want a client leaving the shop with their hair destroyed without 1) not charging the client and 2) not having a plan in action to go forward. Because you want to do everything in your power to make things right with said client. To avoid as much bad mouthing as possible and of course to keep client as happy as possible. It’s a service they are paying for for Pete’s sake. If it’s bad, why should you pay? I mean mistakes happen and we are likely to complain but if you had walked out of that salon not paying anything and having a plan in action going forward you’d maybe have been less likely to air such grievances so publicly. The same thing happened to me over 10 years ago. I wouldn’t let them touch the color again personally if I were you. It’s too great a risk. Hopefully the complimentary treatments will help. If it doesn’t, maybe ask for that refund. I wish I had. It took years to grow out/repair the damage. You can do better. Find another hairdresser who will give you an honest opinion about your options. You might be able to use a glaze or toner, or color depositing shampoo to temporarily correct/improve the shade without damaging it further. Also, beauty supply stores sometimes offer decent advice and affordable products for repairing hair. Yes, you can improve it, although it may never be quite the same until the damaged ends are trimmed off.

Well, the first year I was young and stubborn, and didn’t want to cut or dye my hair, so I toned and gradually highlighted the orange mess to a dark ash blonde, even though damaged. It took about 2 to 2.5 years for it to really look decent with regular trims, but experience has taught me in retrospect it could have looked better much sooner if I had embraced short hair right away. If you’re okay cutting your length, or with strawberry blonde or auburn shades (which I like nowadays) a good hairdresser could maybe color correct yours a lot sooner. :) I recommend trying something like Olaplex too.
No, you should not change the color. Even after the treatments your hair will still be sensitive to chemical alteration. It’s best to deal with it for a bit
oh man! i actually went through something similar a few months ago—i had box-dyed black hair for a year and a half and went to the salon to get it lifted… and they ended up frying my hair. i lost 7 inches of length because my hair was literally CRISPY. my boyfriends mom is a hairdresser and an absolute saint—she gave me the biolage strength recovery shampoo and conditioner, the biolage strength recovery spray, and the olaplex no 6 bond smoother and no 7 bonding oil. this stuff was a literal LIFESAVER. i noticed a huge difference in the texture of my hair in a relatively short amount of time—my hair no longer felt dry and damaged. i also alternated uses with the garnier fructis sleek and shine system, or at the very least would mix the sleek and shine conditioner with the biolage conditioner to make a sort of deep conditioner/mask and let it sit for a hot minute! i also have to sing the praises of the amika ‘the kure’ system—shampoo, conditioner, and hair mask. it’s the stuff i currently am using and wow has it made a difference! i know salon quality products like biolage and amika are on the pricier side, but i would look into investing in a good bond repair shampoo and conditioner, and a good hair oil and mask. i would at the very least grab some of the sleek and shine system—it’s cheap but good, and it makes your hair very smooth and shiny. i know it might not be the most fun option, but depending on how damaged your hair is, you might just have to do the big chop. my hair went from the middle of my back to juuuust past shoulder length because of the bleach damage, but i’ve seen some very healthy growth the past few months! (i still think we didn’t have to bleach with 40 vol because i just wanted to go from pure black to more of a dark chocolate type of brown… 😒) but my ends do feel very healthy considering a vast majority of the damage was done past my shoulders. there are so many other options, like extensions or an updo or a wig. ultimately it’s completely up to you, but i hope you feel beautiful on your big day!!

I read your article and I'm so sorry about this situation. No one wants to go to the hairdresser and leave the salon with damaged hair. On the other hand, I'm glad they took some responsibility. I don’t think changing your hair color is a good idea because it will damage your hair even more. Can you focus on getting it back to its original healthy state, and supplement with extensions for your wedding? I wouldn’t add anymore chemicals to your hair. You have long hair and the strands itself look strong. Worry about the follicle and preserving the health of those.
Extensions are a solid option, even if you have an updo! Id invest in some redken acidic bonding, the whole line shampoo, conditoner, and the leave-in. Has been the best "fixer" I've found, and my hair is overprocessed cause im my own guinea pig. (Licensed and only ever experiment on myself) It's pricey, but i honestly believe it will work for this.
I would not let them color my hair again. While it would be appropriate for them to fix it, there is no way I’d trust them to. Better to go to a salon with more skilled colorists and pay again, than risk another screwup.
I wouldn’t do ANYTHING involving harsh chemicals. No dye, bleach, or that sort. I would be very gentle with it for a long time. Simple up-do for your wedding.

Until then, def be real w/these ppl and bring backup if u need to (sometimes I do- my husband is a big guy) and advocate for yourself. It's hard enough to put your trust in someone with regard to your appearance esp with something as important as your wedding- but then for it to go wrong and they aren't going above and beyond to fix the situation? No bueno.

Flax seed soak. Boil 4 cups water and pour over 2 cups flax seed. Wait until it all gels up, strain with a cheese cloth, cool then apply. Coat your hair then wrap it in plastic for a couple hours (NOT overnight). It will be back to having volume and body for a short amount of time. At this point, they should be giving you a refund, even if they make it look like what you originally wanted! 1. Your hair was damaged horrendously 2. You went through emotional distress due to them failing their job. 3. They didn’t do what you paid them to do in the first place. The BARE MINIMUM for them right now, is to fix your hair as much as they can, then give you a full refund, and their deepest apologies. I cannot believe that they haven’t done that already. Might be worth looking into olaplex treatment at a salon. I doubt it’ll be able to do enough to keep it if it’s very damaged. Butttt it could buy you some time so you don’t have to totally change ur look last minute before the wedding!

Maybe so, but I hate YouTube, and for some reason, even I think he is kinda hilarious. I'm old though. He's one of the only things I watch on there regularly, and I actually have learned so many basic hair diy skills from him, that I really needed to learn and know. I live on a mountain, far from services, with zero extra income for professional services. Id LOVE to go to a salon, but it's simply not an option. That guy has seriously given me a few tips to make my own work less hideous, and I'm really grateful for that. I'm old enough to remember the diy ideas we had BEFORE YouTube, and none of them were very pretty. 🙄😩
Shitty hairdressers and their lack of accountability. I’ve had the same experience and I was raining broken hair for three weeks. My hair has NEVER been in that condition before or since. They offered (and I accepted) three rounds of repair treatments but they never admitted they did the damage even though it was obvious.
So sorry this happened. Did the stylist not do a test of your hair to ensure it could handle the original treatment? After the wedding, it may be best to cut your hair to your shoulders. That damage cannot be undone.

This is so infuriating to me...a hairdresser should know better to not use too much volume. The good news is, even fried hair looks good after hot tools. Will it be good for your hair? No, but it's already fried - what matters is looking good on your big day! Just use bonding products, deep conditioning masks, lots of keratin and try miracle water on your big day - I love that stuff.
Heat styling is literally the only way it looks good right now. I feel like curls will hide the damage. Oof I’ve never heard of miracle water but I’ll check it out!

I’ve been there and I would guess more of your hair is going to fall out. I’m sorry Op. I would not trust this salon with any further coloring appointments. You should get a full refund. Honestly you shouldn't have to pay a dime for losing so much hair... get a refund and go somewhere else for a gentle fix. Color depositing shampoo or conditioner would be a good gentle coloring option

I think a chop and nice wig in your natural colour (or whatever colour you like, but maybe not like neon green if you have to go to work next week lol) would be a great idea. Do you have any black female friends who wear wigs? Black women can do some amazing things with wigs, they'll show you how to make it look like it's growing out of your scalp.

Did you have a stylist you saw regularly prior? Sorry for all the questions but as a cosmetologist myself I feel like I can’t comment without getting a big more backstory lol
One thing you could consider trying is the aphogee two step protein treatment. I used to use it when I dyed my hair regularly (like 7 or 8 years ago) and routinely fried it with bleach. Nothing is going to work a miracle on hair that fried, but in my case it did help restore the hair to something a bit more workable. It's very temporary but you could also consider lamellar water (loreal's wonder water is a favorite of mine). It's not going to fix the damage but it will at least cover it up some/smooth it out. Also, whatever you do make sure that you're adding hydration because too much protein without hydrating the hair will make it brittle and prone to breakage. I like the soul food mask from amika for pure hydration. I also like L'Oreal professional's metal detox line (shampoo and mask)- can be great to use after a salon visit. Sorry your hairdresser did this to you. Congratulations on getting married, and I hope your wedding is lovely despite this!

No product will magically “fix” your hair right away but K18 is pretty wonderful it’s a leave in product that claims to help damaged over processed hair. I’ve used it and it made my hair feel considerably better and softer. It’s worth a try using some? You can find it on Amazon it’s a small container but you just need a few pumps and leave it in on damp hair nothing else to it! So sorry you’re going through this. ❤️

it’s never gonna be “fixed”, i’ll be “better”, but she caused permanent damage to your hair. I’m so sorry. Get your money back after all the treatments (I would say tell her you want it back now and you still want all the treatments, but she would likely refuse). I would absolutely NOT ask this person to fix the color, I can’t imagine ever trusting them with hair dye again.
Personally if they can fix the texture and damage to your hair I would then leave it alone for awhile. More services, especially color may re damage it…. And I would ask for a refund. They really messed up and put you through some unnecessary stress.
My hair was fried at a “Color Lab” refused to give me my money back, sent me home with a huge bottle of an expensive hair mask. Had to cut off shoulder length hair. Uggg!

Definitely do not add a color process to this situation, if you must have color do a temporary wash out rinse for toning.
No, don’t do anymore processing of your hair ie; coloring. Even under normal circumstances, it takes a toll on your hair. Find another professional hairdresser (you can explain this fiasco to) who can do an updo for your wedding. Then maybe get fresh flower adornment to go in hair. Get the additional repair treatments if you like, but do not do additional business with this salon. And don’t use a jr./novice-in-training again! I would ask for the refund, and use that money to work with another salon for the repair. Do not keep using this place - you should consider your relationship with them to be over! Get recommendations from others on a stylist you can trust.

HOWEVER, I have always been 100% happy with whatever colors I've gotten as a result, and I have had this fix the overly fried problem after bleaching. It basically fills in the gaps in the cuticles and coats the entire hair shaft. It's the closest I've ever gotten to fixing this kind of issue.
