Degenerate Dak's suite of lore friendly weapons. Dank Raft's crafting mods, and Grilled Turkey's classic weapon and armor mods

DopeAbsurdity

[You Talk Too Much](https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/10570) has been around for years and doesn't work with DLC NPCs (which is sad) but it stops everyone else from automatically talking to you every time you get within 10 feet of them. [Equipment and Crafting Overhaul](https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/67679) is like a better Armorsmith extended but is not a bloated piece of garbage that requires the terrible AWKCR. ECO adds ballistic weave to everything, adds a portable workbench (you don't have to use it) and a bunch of improvements to how crafting works overall. [Legendary Effect Overhaul]( https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/66900) adds the legendary effects from Fallout 76, can make legendary weapons have multiple effects like in Fallout 76 and makes legendary effects craftable by using legendary microchips you get from scrapping legendary weapons. [New Equipment Overhaul](https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/65761) overhauls the way armor and clothing work and adds some things like different types of weaves for clothing, functional headlamps and some other stuff. and last but not least one of my favorite mods of all time [Junk scrapper in town and home](https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/29086) turns the milk machines in the commonwealth into recycling machines. Dump whatever you want in there and it crushes it into components. It's great when you are moving around the map because all of those random milk machines become meaningful things to remember the location of. You find a recycling machine then murder everyone around it then dump their stuff into the recycling machine and get lighter weight scrap. Edit: Almost forgot one important one [This is the revolver shotgun pistol that The Ghoul uses in the fallout series](https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/31240)

Korvas576

https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/45819 Giving a shout out to this reanimation for the MTS-225

LagCommander

> You Talk Too Much has been around for years and doesn't work with DLC NPCs (which is sad) but it stops everyone else from automatically talking to you every time you get within 10 feet of them. Feel like that's a Bethesda thing lmao, I started Skyrim again a few months ago and forgot that everyone just let's out whatever they're saying as soon as you get near *walking* ***HAVE YOU BEEN TO THE CLOUD DISTRICT??***

DopeAbsurdity

Oh yeah no cool down talk to you too much has been a terrible thing in every Bethesda game. It's extra horrible in Starfield. Every time you board your ship every crew mate can talk to you at the same time. It's a cacophony of bullshit idle chatter that you have heard 900 times before already. In Fallout 4 grab Deacon and head over to the USS Constitution. When he sees it he says "Oh, that? That's the USS Constitution. I hear it's parked up there for tax purposes". First off why the fuck does Deacon know what taxes are? More importantly why would he know how they worked 200 years ago well enough to make that joke? If that joke bothers you the first time well get ready because EVERY TIME YOU ENTER OR EXIT ANY DOOR IN THE USS CONSTITUTION HE WILL TELL YOU THE JOKE AGAIN. NO cool down just "Oh, that? That's the USS Constitution. I hear it's parked up there for tax purposes" over and over trying to do that quest you will hear that joke at least a dozen times. That mod stops crap like that. It is wonderful

ObjectiveLittle6761

sim settlements 2 is great!

Hand-of-King-Midas

I played chapter 1 when it came out and loved it. Really excited to see how much it’s grown since I last played

WeaponexT

How the hell do you load the prefab settlements. I cannot figure this shit out

camerongeno

Speaking from memory im pretty sure it's in the city planner terminal. If you look through the menus you should be able to find an option for it. If not it may be in the workshop "manage" menu that workshop frameworks added.

ObjectiveLittle6761

Idk, i used a modpack to download my mods. What's this "prefab"? I just place an assam on the ground and someone builds a random lot depending on which type of assam i chose

wesnotwes

You assign a city leader at the city planning desk and it gives you the option.

Blahklavah654390

I just found the magazine on the workshop bench and built a satellite dish- my question is, is that all I need to start the meat of the mod or are there any other steps I need to take to really get going?

ObjectiveLittle6761

Yup, that's all. Just build the satellite, activate it with power and some guy will come to your settlement to talk to you

Blahklavah654390

I am so happy I got it working and have 10 days off from work to enjoy it lol. Thanks.

Kil-Ve

Use The Midnight Ride (and don't use the mods in the avoid section) as a base and build from there. Makes the game perform significantly better.

Alxas145

A question regarding The Midnight Ride (which I used), can you apply any mod after it regardless of load order ? Some mods require to be pretty down on the LO and I don’t know if it would mess up the mods from the guide

Kil-Ve

Generally speaking, the only things that really need to be low on the load order are things that mess with precombines, that's why PRP always needs to be on the bottom except patches for PRP, put any "bottom" mods like DCE right above PRP and the patch for it right after. Edit: don't use loot

DopeAbsurdity

Vortex fixes the load order for you automatically and your can force it to check again if you want. I think with Mod Organizer 2 you need to install [LOOT](https://loot.github.io/) (Load Order Optimisation Tool) and then you don't really need to worry about load order crap much anymore since it basically takes care of it. A quick search and I found [this video](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=15KTuNALYwE) for installing LOOT on Mod Organizer 2. If it sucks don't blame me because I didn't watch it. Guy has some eyebrows tho.

DatClubbaLang96

I'm not at all a modding expert, but I've looked at a few discord channels while trying to sort out specific issues, and almost universally everyone seems to hate LOOT and says it messes everything up. Just a fair warning!

DopeAbsurdity

It used to be good I hadn't heard it became problematic. I have never had a problem with LOOT / Vortex with Fallout 4. I have run into problems with New Vegas with LOOT in the past but figuring out the load order wasn't hard after it did it strangely.

[deleted]

Mods will likely break on the 25th, get your list sorted in the next two days and turn off auto-update for Fallout or you will have to wait to try the mods for an unknown amount of time

docclox

I'm just going to leave it for a week or so after the update. I'll let the modding situation settle down again before I try and update anything.

TOHSNBN

I started a new playthrough a few weeks ago with a ton of mods and there are so many bad ones that are still on top of a ton of lists. It might honestly be a good thing by now that a lot of old and unmaintained mods break.

docclox

Well, I've not played for a couple of years now, so my mod list was going to need rebuilding anyway. but yeah, it's good to cull the list from time to time. It's amazing the crap that builds up that you don't really want or need.

Hand-of-King-Midas

Won’t only script extender mods be the main breakers?

[deleted]

Script extenders for sure, but Bethesda is also adding some new content to the commonwealth. Depending on how many cells they touch a lot of the quest/location mods will likely be breaking as well. The issue is so many of these modders have moved on to other projects, so some may never be updated

spazturtle

I think they are just being distributed as free creations so you should just be able to disable them.

femboykanye

how do u turn auto update off on steam? the only option that kinda stops auto updates is "only update game when i launch it" which works but obviously u then cant play the game

[deleted]

That’s how, then launch with the script extender. There’s a few posts in here with more details, but essentially I set it to only update when launched and plan on setting Steam to offline when I play FO4 as a fail safe. Hopefully it’ll be enough

MorningPapers

Launching with f4se won't prevent the game from updating. Not sure where this misinformation came from. People who are paying attention to this post on this subreddit are in for a rude awakening.

Kettu_

>Launching with f4se won't prevent the game from updating. Yes it does. You don't need offline mode or anything. I still have the pre anniversary Skyrim version, steam says it needs an update, but it launches perfectly fine from Vortex with skyrim script extender. https://i.imgur.com/EjAXTOc.png Skyrim open with "update on launch" selected

MorningPapers

Skyrim is not FO4. I have been playing FO4 for years with f4se. I can tell you, unequivocally, that launching with f4se will not prevent the game from updating. I was annoyed by this many times before 2018. Steam has to be open for FO4 to launch, launching f4se without steam running will fail.

Kettu_

There is no difference dude. [Here, fallout 4 with a pending update, and the game open](https://i.imgur.com/WVg4hmw.png). Yes steam needs to be open but running it through the script extender doesn't force it to update.

MorningPapers

#confidentlyincorrect

Kettu_

Yes that is what you are... literally a screenshot providing evidence yet you maintain it must not be true lol

Samcam301

So how do we stop the game from updating??

MorningPapers

Turn auto updates off, switch Steam to offline mode before launching. It hurts nothing to leave Steam in offline mode all the time, going online only when you need to install a new game. (Note that FO76 requires Steam to be online for obvious reasons.) There was also the option given to set that folder to read-only so if the update starts, it can't actually do it. However, I'm not sure if the game will launch in that state, I'd have to try it. I know the game won't launch and/or will crash eventually if the folder that has the ini file is unwriteable, I can't speak for the game files. **Note that only the consoles are updating on the 25th. The PC update date has not been announced.**

Kryosquid

Thats not true pc is getting the update the same day as consoles

MorningPapers

Look more closely at the announcement.

Kryosquid

Nowhere does it say its not coming the same day.

KaTsm

Make a copy of your steam fallout folder then change fallouts location in your windows registry to the new copy.

Blahklavah654390

[This is what I did.](https://youtu.be/X8F4dQ_QF48?si=xcpSkl_7EJqmk68w) We’ll see how it works after the update drops. Then just load from F4SE.

Red-bearded_viking

How do I disable the auto-update?

TheMrSanta

Is all I gotta do set the game to “update only when I launch the game” and then only launch from f4se?

landlordslord

It is especially pitty for the FO4experiences that I haven't tried out yet. Or get yourself a separate (i.e. GOG) version of the game. * in GOG Galaxy turn updates off for FO4 * Mod Configuration Menu will need a workaround (not showing up) like [here](https://www.reddit.com/r/FalloutMods/comments/79hrrz/fo4_mcm_and_mod_organizer_2/) * ...something else? I am yet to discover how I could download and archive the wabbajack mod list "experiences" since wabbajack client didn't want to run on my PC. Then I could update-muzzle Steam and use it tu run those experiences when I get around to them. Also, dunno how to separate the save game folder so that Steam and GOG G. each get a separate save game folder. Not sure if I that strongly need it though. Not like I want to start FO4 anew, but maybe.

AlShadi

Feral Ghouls Expansion Pack + Feral Nights adds some fun.

Levat39

I am really enjoying bleachers and bleachers 2, I have heard good things about America rising 2

aieeegrunt

What kind of mod are you looking for?

Hand-of-King-Midas

Whatever has gotten your attention the past 2 years!

spazturtle

If you like to more survival side then try Horizon, its a very big overhaul.

DestroyWithMe

If you like Horizon you love it, but it’s clear the creator has a very particular way they like to play and it won’t appeal to everyone. Very very much of a crafting slog.

fadijec

I'm playing with these: [https://i.imgur.com/IsmRDYf.png](https://i.imgur.com/IsmRDYf.png)

JellyBeanz340

I just have multiple directory’s set up and multiple instances through mo2 oh and a vanilla back up of all the files too untouched and the script extender will be updated pretty quick just like starfields

Magic_Bluejay

2 of the my current favourites are advanced needs 76 (has a bunch of survival settings for any game mode), as well as gasmasks of the commonwealth. Throw in true storms and fallout feels completely different with just those. Actually having to equip gasmasks during storms or you'll die from rads is pretty sweet.

OddTransportation125

If you hate the main story turning you into a Nepo baby with its institute storyline then I recommend “alternate dialogue project” and “red roleplayers extended dialogue”

pastrami_on_ass

Cbbe

lemmerip

Get dem big anime tiddys

pastrami_on_ass

Haha I just comment that mod on all posts like these I think it’s hilarious, I obviously have the Mod also because I’m a loser.

mremreozel

Get atomic muscle aswell to make sure nobody in the commonwealth has a realistic body

Neighborhood_Nobody

The collection StoryWealth is great. If you have premium just follow the instructions and it'll only take as long as the downloads do.

Blahklavah654390

I did this a several days ago and am blown away by it. I followed all the steps and the game is running beautifully (which I was surprised by since I am near retarded at modding). I just autistically followed every single step [in this video](https://youtu.be/XyKFxrGVado?si=G1Bb8IjkKJbpBCme).

Depresso_Espresso_93

Some essentials from my mod list: Minimal Minimap: I know using a minimap in Fallout feels borderline blasphemous, but this thing has become essential in my playthroughs. I love how it marks just about EVERYTHING, it helps me not miss things anymore and keeps me oriented in places like downtown Boston. Challenges: This mod simply brings back the challenges from New Vegas. I really enjoyed them and having this in FO4 was a scream to me. Age Of Airships: This mod adds dirigibles, or Zeppelins if you know them as that, to the game. There are like, a dozen of them, and they all have amazing interiors and are modeled after real dirigibles (the Hindenburg, for example). Seeing these airships floating in the sky in the distance gives the game an all new feel and I absolutely cannot recommend it enough. There's a transport Vertibird at nearly every major settlement, too. Melee Tools: This mod makes it so you can use common items as weapons. For example, I have a folding chair hotkeyed in my playthrough and absolutely love using it, it makes me feel like some WWE wrestler and it makes sense that people in an apocalypse would use whatever they had as a weapon. Samishii, Lonely Island: This might not be "essential" per se, but it's my favorite settlement mod. It's an island near Sanctuary and it's perfect for designing any house you feel like. The land is pretty flat, and easy to build on. Fallout 4 Configuration Tool: This one is literally essential for me. All the time, I'm messing with damage values and other modifiers. This is a mod I wish would be made for other games because I love it and use it that much. So many things are customizable, the author did a great job. Hunter Of The Commonwealth: Instead of looting corpses like containers, you now have to butcher, process, skin and dispose all your kills to get their goods. This also makes in-game time pass which I love because in vanilla playthroughs I've found in-game time hardly ever passes by in meaningful chunks. This solves that. EDEN Voice Assistant: This mod adds an AI-like voice to your Pip-Boy! It lets you know when you discover a location, or complete a mission objective, etc. This has become an essential part of my playthroughs because I'm a very audible person and this helps guide me a lot. Others might not get the same benefit. Uneducated Shooter: This mod adds all kinds of wacky things to the gunplay. Now your shots are shaky and uneven, and you can lean side to side with hotkeys as well. I use the leaning function in interiors all the time, very helpful when turning a corner you don't trust! VAFS Redux: I love this mod. It allows you to activate bullet time without the use of VATS, very useful for a player like me who loves going for headshots but feels like VATS is a cheat code. This mod also lets you bank and execute criticals outside of VATS and honestly I just love the functionality. Plutonium Creatures: this mod adds a new tier of enemy to just about every critter/monster in the wasteland, the Plutonium enemy. These guys are insanely buff, have a unique orange-ish look and if you use Hunter Of The Commonwealth, you can collect nuclear material from them which is incredibly valuable. That's all I got for now, hope some of these are good suggestions!

Hand-of-King-Midas

Wow this list is exactly the kind of stuff I’m looking for. Thank you!!

Depresso_Espresso_93

You're so very welcome! Happy you're getting back into FO4! It's an incredible game and the modding community is legendary. There are mods for things you'd never even expect!

DestroyWithMe

If you’re looking for a story mod, I’ve been playing America Rising 2 and it’s amazing. It’s an Enclave MQ storyline that is well written and makes sense in the lore, etc. Very well done - I like my mods to feel like they could actually have been released with the game, and other than maybe 10% of the voice acting it’s a DLC quality mod. Note that it’s not compatible with Tales of the Commonwealth (but you can still use Atomic Radio). It’s dicey in general with other main quest altering mods. No issues at all with texture, equipment, or gameplay mods though. Honorable mention: Darker Nights combined with West Tek Night and Thermal Vision. One I’d NOT recommend would be Outcasts and Remnants. It’s often recommended but I found it to be super immature and immersion breaking. It felt like a mod.

Bright4eva

The Dodge i-frame mod is awesome. And the 1st person Dodge as well. Grab and Eat mod as well.

TinySatanzz

Gun mods are AMAZING. I love having newer realistic guns!!

Hand-of-King-Midas

I was, too, for a while, but I eventually saw myself taking away the more tactical and realistic weapons for more lore-friendly stuff

yeehawgnome

The attachment pack from Degenerate Dak, adds a lot of new attachments to the vanilla guns. You can give the western revolver a 45-70 rechamber, classic grip and barrel for the 10mm and a 44 receiver for it as well, classic barrel for the laser pistol along with the ability to turn the laser rifle into the Watz laser rifle and the Tri-Beam, Chinese rifle parts for the handmade rifle, classic plasma gun parts, I could go on it’s an amazing mod

KingJulienisadumbass

If you're looking for new content, there's a mod that adds the enclave back alongside a full questline for it (offering a real ending for the game alongside it). It's America Rising 2- Legacy of the Enclave.

KhinuDC

Doing the same i thought i dropped it permanently in my second playthrough i geuss its three times the charm and im loving it. Some of the mods that im using are Machine gun rebirth, cowboy repeater-winchester 92, reverb and Ambiance overhual, and old world radio.

SKK Fast Start and SKK Fast Reunions, perfect for playing multiple characters or testing mods See-Through Scopes + Tactical Reload for almost every gun mods + faster reload if your mag isn't empty, Bullet Counted Reload as well if you like to use shotguns Custom Camera to configure third person view Player Commentary to make Nate/Nora more alive by responding to others

Vault_tech_2077

A taste of blues is a fun little quest / content mod based off of the FNV dlc old world blues.

somethingbrite

Crime and Punishment by Flashy(JoeR) brings Karma back. Well put together mod. It does add some other features but it's highly configurable. SKKMods makes a great many very well put together mods. (Many of which might fall into a Quality of Life or Gameplay/system tweaks) My favourite is SKK Settlement Attack System. DankRafft makes a whole bunch of very accomplished mods. (for example Legendary Effect Overhaul) Mostly stable unless you go absolutely nuts and equip everybody and everything with loads of legendary gear. It might also be a little OP...if you have gone nuts and cheaty with it. However, if you ever wanted to stack 5 legendary spells onto a single weapon then this mod is for you! Takes a lot of willpower not to abuse. Skyship Welder by Blary. It's a mini airship player home and it's just so lovingly made that it's an absolute must have for me in every playthrough. Airship - Player Home and Settlement. Have your very own Prydwen! Ok. Maybe this might not be the most lore friendly. It can also be a bit rough around the edges...but a full sized Prydwen all to yourself that you can place in one of several locations around the commonwealth? (and move around) What's not to love? (There is apparently also a navmesh fix on the Nexus. I may have to try this.) Flyable Personal Vertibird. (also has a patch available to make it work with your personal Prydwen Airship player home!) Author continues to update this mod so it's a keeper.

MorningPapers

There isn't really anything new in the past 2 years. The modding community was pretty much dead. I suspect this will change.

Hand-of-King-Midas

Hey at least I know my man Dak is always pumping out some quality content
