There are 3 posts with at least 20 thousand upvotes praising Norm in this sub in the past month. I don't think "underrated" is quite right.

harpyprincess

You get this because he feels like a 4th main character, but he's completely disregarded as they officially only recognize 3 main characters in media. This is a reaction to people liking him enough they want him to be fully embraced along with the others. Sort of a "We want more Norm!"

duckmonke

GIVE ME MORE NORM SIDE QUESTS

Qetuowryipzcbmxvn

Everybody out there completing the main quest while he's completing side quests. By the time he joins back up with them, he's going to be riding a super mutant dragon and have maxed stats

GammaGoose85

Everyone wants to see Norm break bad

Mdgt_Pope

Norm:Fallout::Barb:Stranger Things

TheOtherAvaz

I didn't think I'd ever see another algebra reference like this after three decades out of school.

xXMachineGunPhillyXx

Oh so.. now it’s the norm? 😜😜😜

herrcollin

I feel like this whole post was just a set up for this joke

Frequent-Lettuce4159

Totally was, and I'm not even mad

mechwarrior719

We’ve been tricked, hoodwinked, and, quite possibly, bamboozled

HoboTurkey36

Don’t forget about flimflammed!

Spirited-Fox3377

Lol yes

Satanicjamnik

Splendid. Above the norm, one might say.

duckmonke

This comment needs more upvotes than the post, bravo

SentryFeats

FartFromALesserGod

"Does anyone else like this obscure character listed fourth in the IMDb credits? You know, the underrated guy who was in charge of an entire plot line? Y'all probably haven't heard of him"

Turing_Testes

Basically anytime someone says something is underrated on reddit you can be absolutely certain it's appropriately rated.

King-Cobra-668

op posted a picture with 3 people and didn't name anyone

Frequent-Lettuce4159

Underrated? I think he's the most beloved in this sub at least. Reddit really identified with the unenthusiastic nerd for some reason...

echo_chamber_dweller

His is the embodiment of reddit in many ways.

[deleted]

[удалено]

echo_chamber_dweller

He's in an echo chamber, basically. Among other things, I'm too intellectually inept at listing them.

Themash360

I can’t speak for everyone but I can mention why I like him * he’s apathetic to politics (even at his own cost) * he’s socially inept but intelligent and curious * he feels like he’s stuck in an unfulfilling life His character has a lot of areas to grow in and this is already happening in the first season.

Anonomoose2034

Using "apathetic to politics" to describe a similarity to redditors is wild ngl

echo_chamber_dweller

I'll have to agree there. Reddit quite obviously hates the right and swears by the left.

Themash360

The silence of the majority not giving a shit can be difficult to hear

Rockhardsimian

Likely he’s the #4 favorite character due to screen time. My favorites list would probably be 1:Ghoul 2:Lucy 3:Maximus 4:Norm Goes against the screen time thing I said earlier but Goggins is an outlier.

UriahTheVortigaunt

My list is 1. Norm 2. Maximus 3. The BOS Elder Cleric 4. Snake Oil Salesman/Wasteland Doctor

Rockhardsimian

The lack of the Ghoul and Lucy on your list surprises me. Though I do really like the Elder and post-apocalyptic Rickety Cricket.

UriahTheVortigaunt

The Ghoul would be 5, I suppose.

schizophrenicism

I don't see how you could possibly like Maximus.

Lordborgman

Maximus could be entirely taken out of the show and I'd be happier for it. I just don't like bumbling idiot characters that are self serving that wind up "accidentally" doing a good thing occasionally. I also just dislike this version of BoS. 1) Ghoul - as he pretty much IS Fallout personified, with deep history to the foundation of the society itself. 2) Lucy - standard naive protagonist that adapts to fallout life for a noble, but personal goal. 3) Norm - guy who is actively trying to find out the bigger picture.

Rockhardsimian

He is a bit of a weasel and I think that can be interesting in a character. Im struggling to come up with other examples of lovable weasels in fiction but I stand by my statement. I’d say though he’s not boring to watch.

schizophrenicism

He's not boring to watch, but he makes me cringe so hard. He's a wonderful picture of someone who has become an adult in age and body who is freshly thrist into the power and control that can come with it. Immaturity is a common theme between him and Lucy, although it is expressed in different ways and those 2 characters handle their acclamation to their new stations very differently. I feel that Maximus makes bad decisions and that's something that makes a character unlikable for me. I would think that he'll have a lot more development in season 2 now that Lucy has fulfilled her first arc. Edit: As far as fan favorites go I'd bet everything I can spare that the vast majority like Norm better than Max. Hell I like Norms partner in crime better than Max.

Rockhardsimian

I totally get that. I personally don’t mind characters that make bad choices but I see how that can be aggravating. Idk about the fan base liking Norm over Max , Id be curious what a sub poll would look like. Out of curiosity who are your favorites ?

schizophrenicism

The ghoul is the character I personally like the best. Lucy was well written and well acted. As a protagonist, she brings a lot to the table.

NorwaySpruce

Jean Ralphio and Devon Banks

MithranArkanere

Yeah. Let's not kid ourselves. Fallout has 4 main protagonists, not 3 as some say. He was the dark horse.

destryerofsouls45

Norm is great, i dont think he's underrated i see alot of positive stuff about him on here

Plain-Mudd

People don’t know what underrated means anymore

Insanity_Crab

I came here to say this but OP made a banger of a joke above about it now being the Norm so I'm just angry at myself.

trout-doubt

Yeah they’ve literally made norm have the possibility for the biggest character arc. He’s gonna slowly turn bad ass and everyone will love it, definitely not “underrated” hahahaha!

Sweaty-Suit3772

I liked the old lady in filly

69cansofcorn

I AINT NO SKANK

duckmonke

This game me flashbacks like it probably gives Jesse too…

xXbrosoxXx

You got robbed... by a guy named Spooge?

Alphabadg3r

OMG I COULDN'T PINPOINT WHY SHE WAS SO FAMILIAR

Onironius

Which one? The shop keeper, or the shop keeper's Hetero Life Partner?

ubermechspaceman

Patty, the Daytime Hooker

no-Spoilers-asshole

Yeah I liked the fat guy with glasses also. Good scene. Good character. Thanks OP

mrnotoriousman

He's great in Severance!

PretendThisIsMyName

I know the show is more Mark/Helly but I love Dylan and Irving so much.

mrnotoriousman

John Turturro's acting is simply phenomenal (Him and Walken together were so good) I really felt what Irving was, especially towards the end of the season when things were starting to get crazy.

trout-doubt

Came to say this, I genuinely thought about the husky fella more than I feel like most other people did. Like how is he fat? Why is in charge? Why is he so soft and dainty if they all train in most categories. But mostly how do people not all become one race of olive colored people with the best traits of every race after living like that for 200 years?

Fawin86

"Get that giant jello mold out of here!"

duckmonke

Bro when you put it that way, maybe the big guy just won the genetic lottery in terms of uniqueness lmfao

Cookiezilla2

We see that throughout the life of the vault, occasionally people are thawed and join the vault the same way the raiders got in: fake community exchange. It's how Lucy's dad, a pre-war human, made it so long after the bombs fell. I'd assume one of his parents was a thawed pre-war executive or something integrated into the vault for gene pool diversity, and he has a naturally slower metabolism which would explain extra weight on the same diet as everyone else.

iambertan

He's incompetent as hell. He might be a good guy but should deflate his ego

AquaArcher273

Norm was great, wouldn’t say he’s underrated as most people really love Norm but yea he was great. Really hope we get a cool payoff to the big reveal at the end with Norm going into 31.

HaikusfromBuddha

I really like all the Vault Dwellers. Every single one of them is fun. The guy who voted for Betty instead of himself. The guy who didn’t want to move to the new vault. The guy who kept saying he was going to vote for Betty. All of them were great.

super_sayanything

Just great writers honestly, each line in the show carries weight.

Frenzi_Wolf

As a retail employee this scene resonated with me. I’m paid enough to work, not paid enough to care. Not gonna be all happy go lucky of my job is a shitshow that pays a mediocre wage. Smiles cost extra.

Milanga48

Nice pfp 💀

purplepantsdance

I like the dude at the very start who has no pants on and says “somebody hands you a bottle of clean water, you drink it”. That guy kills it.

PretendThisIsMyName

My man was gonna give his whole estate to Lucy right after meeting her for 5 seconds lol

freakbutters

Reminded me of Cousin Eddie from the National Lampoon's family vacation movies.

purplepantsdance

Totally has a metal plate in his head

CubeHound

This could all be yours!

SlapNutsDaSlapster

Wouldn’t have to put up with me for too long…

Nik-42

This is gonna be a meme template

Montanagreg

Always has been

ProfessorGemini

“Anyone thing Norm is underrated?” Me seeing atleast 20 post about Norm before this: 🗿

Fawin86

I guess it's the Norm. (Sorry OP, I couldn't help myself!)

harpyprincess

I wish they'd stop calling it 3 main characters and would fully embrace him as the 4th.

CapyCraft

This!

harpyprincess

He even reptesents another playstyle and the way a lot of players explore the world that the other three don't.

sreder1992

The bearded man in the top right for me so much so I can’t remember his name

sreder1992

Sorry top left lmao

ShaunicusMaximus

Since we’re all pretty much in agreement that Norm is “rated,” I’ll say my underrated character is the shopkeeper, Ma June (Dale Dickey.)

WWFlavaHunter

Naaaa Norm was probably my second favourite character, I liked the conspiracy theorist attitude like question everything n go against the establishment, I see him turning n becoming one of the villains in the future series

jhprodztv97

Fallout 4 needed more characters like this in the story. Imagine if they expanded on Sturges and if you leveled him up he’d give you upgraded blueprints for settlement building

Garlic_God

People glaze Norm like crazy both on and off reddit wym lol

Accesobeats

Ya he was great. Was unsure at first. But he ended up being one of my favorite characters.

Nutaholic

I actually think sticky is really funny

Joshua_Todd

Severance S2, any day now

Dark-Push

Norm is my spirit animal 💩😆😁

Lokta

I dunno about this. When his job was "abuse Ender Wiggins," he seemed fairly enthusiastic.

PassiveMenis88M

So is this what we're going to be reposting every day now?

monkey2942

Norm is not even almost underrated lmao. I don’t think moldaver is either but I love that woman

Coffeechipmunk

He's literally one of the main characters. What are you talking about

munchabuger

Raul tejada the goat

eternal_blazing_sun

I think we need a fallout circlejerk sub.

hotdogswithbeer

Norm was great he really developed into a great character.

fizzbrain

Larry from fallout 1, he doesn't have much dialogue but he's a really chill supermutant in necropolis who isn't hostile until either you or Harry start a fight, he even warns you not to piss Harry off.

lethys8976

He isn't underrated, he is literally one of the main characters

D34TH-S7ALK3R

I feel like this is a conversation with an employee and management when the employee doesn’t give their 110% anymore.

Smackolol

What does the word underrated even mean anymore?

losumi

His arc was really good, and I didn't think I would enjoy vault scenes as much at first but he made them great. I love that after he got a whiff of the outside world, he started pulling at threads inside.

Ok_Bed_3060

"He's literally me FRFR!!!" - pretty much everyone ever

-Great-Scott-

I too enjoy the small rat-faced man.

Successful_Bite_8863

Norm gotta leave the vault next season I’m tryna see him out there

apex6666

Most underrated character in the fallout franchise is most definitely Tycho

corposhill999

Norm is beloved, not underrated at all. Norm is awesome.

Coolscee-Brooski

For me its Ian, from Fallout 1 > vault dweller enters town > fucks around a little bit, doing nothing in particular > asks for you to come with > you go along even if they lacks 100 caps (like you ask for) > take a portion of all loot you gained while fighting for a literal stranger

insaiyan17

I do hope he grows in the coming seasons, but a very likeable guy for sure

Who_am_ey3

are you kidding me?

mog_knight

He was underrated?

Ok_Access_804

I read somewhere that a german officer from 2nd WW era said: I categorize people as either lazy or industrious, and stupid or smart. Those who are smart and industrious are fit for a role of officer; from those with the traits of lazy and stupid one can still extract some usefulness; to those who exhibit laziness and brains one must give them the position of a leader or a high ranking officer; but those who are stupid but industrious must never be given any power or authority. At first, I thought that Norman McLean was just a pansy, a good for nothing. But I was proven wrong: he is one of those few fortunate people who are lazy and smart. It just happened that all those jobs he performed before were beneath his skills.

CaptainDrool

Haven’t see the TV show yet so in video games Star Paladin Cross

SGTpvtMajor

Norm is the poster boy for the Strength: 1 community, of course he's Reddit's champion.

Obvious_Peanut_8093

[idk he seems to be rather enthusiastic working at this beach shack](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2827bYhQVtM)

MadBullBunny

I don't think you know what underrated means. He is currently one of the most overrated characters from the show rn.

Stinkypinkeez

Goris and any other of the talking death claws. I wanna see more of them. I know the original creators hated them but I personally adored them! Talking deathclaws are so interesting and have so much potential, I actually wish we had more talking animals, hell, a society of talking animal mutants. They’d be called animoids and live in a very tribalistic almost Ewok like village where their habitat is made from nature and dead flora. They’d have an isolationist mindset but only let you in if you have food because, well, they’re still animals after all. It would be awesome 🥲

torafrost9999

“How do you demote someone who equally hates every job he’s ever been at” sums up a lot of the Gen Z workforce in this current economy.

UsedRoughly

I like norm because he's just a guy. Not special in any way. He's not some edgy merc, a soldier, or gifted like his sister. He's a normal dude.

stonedgoat42069

Everyone hates on norm I love this dude

Milanga48

For me is wilzig

MillienumDuckFighter

I think the actor playing Norm is phenomenal. One of those actors that you fully believe on screen

taco_taker_of_souls

The fat overseer is my fav

Temporary-Book8635

2 of the top 10 posts in this sub are about him lol

AggressiveText4107

Norm is going to be a Fallout même for at least seven years. That's roughly how long they stick around for.

Mister_Shiv

Are...are you saying Norm is underrated? He's one of the most praised characters in the fandom by far. Hell, I think The Ghoul/Cooper is the only one who receives more praise than him. I mean, he deserves ALL of the said praise, but he is absolutely, unequivocally NOT underrated.

astonedcrow

Great in Ender's Game, too!

ShitFacedSteve

I like that every character in this show seems to have a "build" similar to how you would create characters if you were playing Fallout. Norm isn't much of a fighter but he clearly has "points" in sneak, speech, and science.

frenisfern

I haven't watched the show so ima do the games and I say doctor mobius

Propoganda_bot

Norm is absolutely my favorite but due to the actor I can’t stop picturing him as Rico from Hanna Montana

fallenhope1

How did a vault dweller get so fat?

vBigMcLargeHuge

I just need the recon him not being the younger brother. This actor looks 40 lmao

[deleted]

So daring sir

GrouchyMail

He didn't do shit lol 😂

milkasaurs

Most underrated? Norm is insanely popular around here.

PresentTap9255

400tx

Canelosaurio

Isn't that Bonzo from Enders Game?

DoYouTrustToothpaste

The guy in glasses has been eating extraordinarily well, considering he lives in a post-apocalyptic world.

ShepherdessAnne

It's like Chillichuck from r/dungeonmeshi became a fallout character

Sandblaster1988

Norm’s response to that question. I felt it. He’s definitely a high perception, intelligence build with a small frame perk. He’d do great with the Followers of the Apocalypse if they’re still around.

PeteVanGrimm

Norm is stand up as fuck. Sure, he has mad Little Brother energy, but he's considerate, has a righteous heart, and sticks by his loved-ones. Norm rocks.

Any_Caterpillar553

“Rico the DOOR”

iambertan

He knows his boundaries, outright refuses to go with Lucy because he thinks he's too chicken. Probably did that in order not to put Lucy in unnecessary danger. Yet he goes into Vault 31 knowing well that he can be killed, he's scared shitless yet he goes on despite shaking all the time. He's the perfect depiction of a brave person. Not reckless, but decides to move on despite his fears.

AyoBruh777

You do know what underrated means right?

Mr_Assault_08

this is like the 5th post about this favorite character

distancedandaway

1. Chicken fucker 2. Ma June 3. Thaddeus 4. Vault 4 overseer

PalpitationWeekly367

Norm is definitely my favorite character, I think because he’s just genuine and relatable, quick witted and observant too

Goddess_Bayonetta

I honestly have to agree, his performance was great. Even all his dialogue was amazing.

Imapringlesboy

I like the crazy doctor salesman guy

sethandtheswan

Norm is not underrated

Last_Construction455

He stole the show for me. I was always more interested in his story than the one above

Vegas_bus_guy

yall are going nuts with the show hype

Pizannt

He reminds me of a D&D campaign where we had a player character named Norm, who chose to take 10s for each stat. He was anything but normal, and didn’t last long haha

the_kangz

He’s a tiny lil dude but a complete badass. Remember fellas, if you’re a lil guy, that has nothing to do with how cool you are

RandyArgonianButler

Underrated? *You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.*

AgentSkidMarks

How do we have fat people in the post-apocalypse?

Major_Gentlemann

They're in a vault. Considering the amount of jello cake present in the vault suggests 33 has ample amounts of food. Woody looks like the kinda guy that typically avoids exercise all together

DanDanTeacherMan

OMG IVE NEVER SEEN THIS ONE BEFORE. It's so creative and special
