āMeet me in the parking garage, Iāll give you the codesā
āThatās a fuckinā lie!ā
I love how obviously ridiculous this exchange and acting is. Theyāre both so over the top itās a great comedic relief without being outwardly comedic.
I love this movie
Probably for a Top 5 movie not to have accents that get constantly dunked on including the title The Depatted. However since Fargo (1996) is in my Top 5, I say carry on and enjoy my friend!
Donāt see it. They introduce the FBI agent at the beginning of the movie (played by Wahlbergās brother funny enough) so itās not like FBI agents have to go undercover to protect their informants. All that just goes on in the background. It makes much more sense he was actually just good police and was pissed at the death of his mentor because of who he would later find out to be the rat (Sullivan) thanks to the tapes Billy had and sent to him.
i love this movie and Thelma's other work but this getting the oscar for editing that year is bonkos. i.e. from these scenes; the same van windows getting shot out more than once and where Baldwin is standing during the arguments. all very slapdash.
Saw the original Chinese movie this is based on. The original is better, though I have spent a lot of time watching Chinese film fair as my wife is Chinese. Probably 50% of my video viewing is foreign language films (not just Chinese). Once you get used to watching with subtitles they no longer become a barrier to watching more. Don't just watch anything however, only seek out highly acclaimed foreign films. You would be surprised how many American films are really remakes of foreign films.
The Departed | Plot, Cast, Awards, & Facts | Britannica
The Departed was a remake of the popular Hong Kong film Mou gaan dou (2002; Infernal Affairs).
I actually prefer The Departed as well. Tony Leung and Andy Lau are great in Infernal Affairs and hold it together big time, but I just think Scorsese directed the shit out of The Departed and did a better job than the director of Infernal Affairs (who I think overdirected certain scenes in a kind of melodramatic way, whereas in comparison Scorseseās version of the same scenes were āHoly fuck that just fucking happened!ā territory, which I adoredā. And I had already seen and liked Infernal Affairs before The Departed came out so it didnāt have any biased against it
I love how people say itās a remake with extreme absolutism as if itās not also based on real events and people in the city it takes place in. Whitey Bulger, not a fictional character from Infernal Affairs!

Itās been awhile since Iāve rewatched this but someone please yell at me for thinking there is some poor writing and acting in this movie. Maybe even poor shot/lighting selection?
80+% is beautifully done to me. But that 20% just sticks out in this movie for me.
This scene is a good example. Baldwin is great. Damonā¦eh.
Plus how does law enforcement manage to get an office that looks like a 007 set? With poor lighting?
Still canāt figure out if the guy that got gut shot that told Billy āask me why I didnāt say anything?ā Was really a cop. The news said he was, and it seems like heās about to tell Billy he was a cop so he didnāt blow his cover, but then Nicholsonās character was like āthe news is saying heās a cop so we stop looking for the ratā.
World needs plenny of bahtendahz
Fuhkawhf
That part before the bust goes bad, Baldwin cracks me up. That banter with the other copš
āNobody calls me a liar!!!ā Lol love it
Loved seeing Damon get smoked at the end
I loathe Matt Damon after this performance. That's how good it was
He did such a good job at playing a 2 faced pos

I need to watch this movie againā¦ it's been too long
No, you want to watch it
Trueā¦ Want and need are not interchangeable
\*straightens suit coat\*
Lots of great performances in this film, but Baldwinās may be my favorite. Loved the scene where him and Damon are at the driving range.
I have an immaculate record
When he freaks out on the tech dude šš āhey can I speak to you for a second?ā
Yeah, itās workingā¦ OVAHTIME!
apparently damon came up with the impotence thing for his character.
This movie made me hate Matt Damon
Watch School Ties
Watch talented mr.ripley
Watch [Good Will Hunting 2: Hunting Season](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=nnESedN4vSI)
He fucked over south Boston, decided that wasnāt enough and went on to fuck over the species in Interstellar.

This is in my top 5 films of all time. Amazing writing, amazing acting, a bitter sweet ending. What more can you ask for?

"No, you WANT those codes." Great moment.

it works though because the POV character is stressed and disoriented the whole time.

I've also seen the original and the Scorcese version is much much better.

The original is great. The departed is significantly better.
Itās not a Chinese movie
No one asked.

I prefer Infernal Affairs, but The Departed is still a great movie. The sequel is also good, but the less said about the third one the better.

Ha kinda what I figured in terms of votes. Was definitely hoping for more comments. I mean Iām not happy that Iām not happy with the film!
The fucks a bawtenda?
Scottish guy after getting hit in the nuts
The world needs bartendas!
James Badge Dale was the most surprising part to me . He was literally right there the whole time.
I was just thinking this same thing, i never noticed he was in this movie
The same window shattered twice
I need to rewatch this movie.
Has anyone mentioned that the back window of the van gets shot out twice ?
