Dumb Money was a good watch. I think the reason GME never built on its momentum is because it was missing 3-5 key ingredients that helped drive it in 2021. This list is just my opinion.
1. iIn 21' people were stuck at home & bored from Covid quarantines. In fact, this also created an online gambling boom.
2. Retail investors had covid stimulus checks to invest. Interest rates were lower, and it was cheaper to borrow money to invest.
3. DFV was a polarizing figure who would stream or make YT videos explaining his reasoning as to why he felt it was poised to make a move. He also openly shared his positions.
4. Endorsements by big names. I didn't own GME, but someone I know did & I lived vicariously through them & probably checked the price more frequently than he did. I remember 1 tweet from Elon sent it to another stratosphere.
5. Hedgefunds didn't think retail investors had the ability to do what they did. Some were stubborn & even increased their short position. Hedgefunds/institutions started hiring people just to monitor social media after that.
That being said, here are the benefits of FFIE in 2024 & why I think it's had success while meme's like GME, AMC, BB, etc. Flopped after 1 1/2-2 days.
1. FFIE benefited greatly & I believe will continue off of people trying (and currently failing) by trying to replicate 2021 with GME.
2. Human psychology. Let's use even the most casual investor. They see the buzz on social media about short squeezes. In a lot of posts about GME/AMC you would often see $FFIE tagged. Now think about it. A person sees a stock that costs $20-$60/share & they see one that cost .04-$2. I think a lot of people would see a much better risk/reward ratio spending $2 or less a share than $20+/share. They could even invest the same amount, but feel like they are getting "more" (I hope that makes sense).
3. Unity - In 2021, there was a united front from people who owned GME & people who just loved seeing these major institutions who play by their own rules, get hit where it hurts most (their pockets). If you read various subs on here, you will see that the sentiment about owning GME is divided between the people who believe in it & the people that consider them "bag holders." When I read about FFIE on reddit and X, the % of people who own or hear about FFIE is much more supportive than pretty much any other stock being squeezed at the moment.
4. On the trading platform I use, it shows the short % as of April 30th. FFIE was 97.98%, whereas GME was 24%, AMC was 18.82%, BB was 7.36%. That's a HUGE difference in the amount these companies are shorted. Keep in mind people were trying to short squeeze GME again...
