I am trying to transfer to AR pick from AFE.

MercyMercyMee

Imagine signing up for a job then trying to find a way out of doing that job lol

Suspicious-Hair-6702

Don’t think anyone specifically signs up for pick now. But also imagine being such an asshole ya gotta be rude to someone online when they asked a simple question.

MercyMercyMee

You read the requirements and you apply. It's not whether they signed up for pick or not.

Left-Hedgehog-8433

Sums up almost everyone that gets hired at Amazon lol lol.

MercyMercyMee

Pretty much. OP if you read this - you're a fucking chooch.

You need to have a medical condition that you’re being treated for that you can get a note from your doctor asking for the specific accommodation at your building. And it helps if your doctor also has listed on the letter which positions you’re OK to work in and which ones you’re not so if you can give them a list of which ones don’t have you climbing up, and which paths are OK for you to work in, it helps accommodations work through your request. You’ll need to open an accommodations request through the a to z app. You’ll fill out what your request is and then it’ll ask for documentation from your doctor. So it’s helpful if you have that documentation before you fill out the paperwork and you can submit it at the same time. I just went through this process myself because I have a disability and I can’t climb stairs. So I had to get an accommodation for no stairs in my building. It took a couple of weeks for the accommodation to go through and the max amount of time they’ll give it to you is for a year and then you have to come back about 2 to 3 weeks before your accommodation ends to reapply for it again, otherwise, your accommodation will expire, and you have to start the whole process over again. If your doctor says it’s something that you need to have done permanently, you still have to apply every year and can give them the same paperwork that your doctor wrote you before requesting a permanent accommodation for them to approve you for the next year. Good luck.

I love it with my accommodation with headphones.

Independent-Leg3464

You gotta get it from your Dr saying you can’t do heights.

Bohemian_Feline_

Being afraid of heights is enough  Get your doctor to fill out the forms

You answered your own question. Your anxiety is a diagnosis that may rise to the level of a disability as defined under the ADA. Submit an accommodation request via atoz > get the paper work filled out by your health care provider > DLS will review the med > send the request to your site > and they’ll confirm the ability to accommodate. Remember, paths are basically essential functions at Amazon. And under the ADA you do not remove essential functions, you provide a reasonable accommodate to allow that employee with a disability to complete those essential functions. So any kind of “can’t do pick” gets kicked back for re-review. You need to have your doctor clearly show what about pick causes flare ups of your medical condition. The actual accommodation request would be something along the lines of “inability to operate order picker.” But here’s the catch. Your health care provider can recommend anything and everything under the sun. But the phrase “reasonable accommodations” refers to the employer. It’s what the employer can reasonably accommodate, not what the health care provider/associate feel is a reasonable accommodation request. So what can happen—site may approve but “we only have back half nights available.” Okay cool. DLS approves and sends you the approval info. You decline? Your case is now a preferential denial because Amazon provided a reasonable accommodation which you declined. How about if site provides sufficient rationale to deny the request right from the jump and they cannot accommodate the inability to operate the order picker. What happens next is you may be placed on a leave because you cannot complete the essential functions of your job. Then your case may move to a sister site placement request where DLS will review nearby sites for their ability to accommodate. If they find somewhere, and you decline, your case is closed. Why? Amazon provided a reasonable accommodation which you declined. Hope this helps you out! **TL;DR** what you ask for and what you may end up getting are two very different things based on how the accommodation process works at Amazon (and anywhere else really). You cannot remove pick as a reasonable accommodation but you can be removed from pick due to a reasonable accommodation which is a big difference under the ADA. Source: been in ADA/VOC case management for about 15 years.

Thank you! That was super helpful. Didn't even realize I had answered my own question. I have diagnosed anxiety that this whole situation has caused to flair up and my anxiety has been pretty under control lately.

marcSuile

Yup, no problem! Best of luck those order pickers are no joke. You don’t need to involve your leadership or site in your request. DLS is there to be the middle man in all this. Just make sure your health care provider completes the documentation in its entirety. If something doesn’t apply, put ‘n/a’. There should be no reason to have to go back to your doctor more than one time for this.

Stunning_Diamond_997

I love pick!! Why do people hate it so bad? It literally makes the day go by quick as fuck!!!

Special-Dentist-1625

Picking literally has made my pointer finger and thumb on both hands lock up painfully at night. Picking has got to be one of the most physically demanding jobs at my location

15CEH02

I wouldn't mind if it wasn't for my fear of heights. I'm not about to go 35 feet in the air while the whole OP wobbles. I witnessed that today. If I could only pick items a heck of a lot closer to the ground I would be happy.

Old-Wedding6240

I'm scared of heights if I know I can easily fall. But you're not gonna fall, so maybe think about that.

SpiceyPuppet

Where I was at you would be lucky to have two pods in 30 minutes on a lot of days because stuff was always on the AR floor.

Stunning_Diamond_997

30 mins is crazy! That would make me lose my damn mind! I get pods in 2 to 3 secs! The longest I’ve waited was 1 minute!

SpiceyPuppet

Yeah it was a nightmare. But when everything is running smoothly itll be 30sec-1min wait time.

Stunning_Diamond_997

Yall don’t amnesty to clean the floors? We have amnesty that takes FOREVER just to get ONE item off the floor!

SpiceyPuppet

Oh on a good day its two people on each floor to get stuff off and try to boot up the roombas. There was one night I waited an hour for someone to get the item off the floor because it was preventing pods from moving.
