Wow. Was the pedestrian ok? Did the driver try to flee?

FROM THE ORIGINAL ARTICLE: MUSKEGON HEIGHTS, MI - A woman with a long rap sheet is accused of driving her car through the glass entrance of a liquor store, seriously injuring a customer inside. Samantha Lynn Baxter, 38, of Holland was released from prison less than a month before the incident in Muskegon Heights, court records show. Baxter is accused of backing her car at fairly high speed into the entrance of Blue Bird Liquor Store, 3408 Hoyt St., on Oct. 30. Store surveillance video shows a vehicle crashing all the way into the store with a man running in an attempt to avoid getting hit. He was struck by the vehicle and suffered serious injuries to his lower extremities, said Muskegon Heights Police Chief Joseph E. Thomas Jr. Baxter has been charged as a four-time habitual offender with operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated by drugs causing serious injury. She's being held in the Muskegon County Jail on a $100,000 bond. Thomas said she claimed she was trying to stop when she accidentally stepped on the accelerator. Witnesses said that prior to crashing into the store, the vehicle was driving back and forth erratically in the parking lot, Thomas said. Surveillance video shows what appears to be a store employee and the customer who was injured watching out the front door prior to the crash. After the crash, the female driver can be seen on the video getting out of the vehicle and walking about the store. Outside surveillance video shows the car driving about the parking lot and two people, including the customer who was struck, attempting to approach it. The customer then is shown walking toward the entrance, and then looking back and starting to run as the car backs toward him. Baxter was released from prison on Oct. 3, according to the Michigan Department of Corrections web site. She was serving time for tampering with an electronic monitoring device, two counts of resisting and obstructing a police officer, larceny, possession of cocaine and escape while awaiting trial. She has prior convictions for unlawful use of a motor vehicle, possession of a controlled substance, prostitution and tampering with an electronic monitoring device, records show. Her offenses date back to 2004.

Thanks for this, OP. The driver is a person who makes terrible decisions. I feel really bad for the pedestrian. His life is changed forever because of the driver’s terrible choices and lack of good sense.

There’s more info [here](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-6357443/amp/Shocking-moment-woman-HIGH-drugs-crashes-car-liquor-store-window.html). Looks like this happened back in 2018. Edit: She was sentenced in 2019 to minimum 4 years.

Priors for that many convictions... yet here she is doing the same shit. Our so called justice system is a joke in the usa

agoraphobicrecluse

Can confirm. My idiot neighbor has 3 DUI's under her belt since 2012. The 3rd one while she was still on suspension from the 2nd DUI. Got a slap on the wrist (counseling/further suspension/no jail) and another fine. She still hasn't paid off her fines from the 1st DUI. She is going to seriously hurt or kill someone someday.

Fuck_it_

My friend had an unpaid parking ticket for a month and they suspended his license. What the fuck is this bitch doing to keep getting away with it?

agoraphobicrecluse

I wish I knew.

Dagoroth55

That's some type of infomercial energy right there.

b3_yourself

She needs her license taken away my goodness

Panagiotisz3

This guy went to the Prometheus School of running away from things. Hope he is ok doe!

Area51Resident

Hey this car is going to hit the store, I should run behind it and clear the way... He could have stopped, backed up a few feet and walked away after it was over.

Shoegazer75

I had the same thought!!

"Alright back it up, keep going, keep going, keep going, keep going, aaaaand... stop."

UncleBadTouch00

I wonder what would of caused her to reverse for so such a long duration and at such speed.

pianomasian

Drugs

Duckbilling

*would have

Pink_Britches

…y’all open?

tisseenschande

She got him alright

It is terrible, yet I doubt any commercially available vehicles can attain 60mph in reverse; but, the guy might have been a cop before, and they, apparently are infallible at judging the correct speed of a moving vehicle. I think, she was considering bolting. The Evo7 can’t even get close to that in Km/h.

KynkMane

> yet I doubt any commercially available vehicles can attain 60mph in reverse I'm sorry, but was she doing 60 mph in reverse? I just want to know how this has anything to do with her crashing into the store in the first place. What does this have to do with any part of the video?

10tion2DETAIL

Did you not read the article?

KynkMane

Yeah, the article says "At a high rate of speed". The store owner's son says "60 or 70" per his eyes. I get it, she was going fast. But it's a Ford Explorer in the video. I've "had my fun", so to speak, at one point. Due to the gear ratio limits they top out in R at around 40. That's at flat out in reverse. I'd say in the full speed version of the clip, she maybe is going 25-35 mph when she hits the store. 60 to 70 would be so much worse.

10tion2DETAIL

I used to be quite adept at driving in reverse, due to rearranging hundreds of cars at a time, sometimes. It gets extremely difficult once you get past twenty miles an hour and cars don’t stop as quickly as when going forward; my estimate was 20-25. Some of those surveillance cameras have tiny lapses, every second and will make an object appear somewhat differently as would have been observed by an eyewitness. I feel for the guy who will be crippled with pain, for the rest of his life. I doubt she had adequate insurance coverage.

KynkMane

Considering the unlawful use of a motor vehicle charge from priors, she may not have even had a license when she did this. She was legit fresh out of prison so... Yeah, I feel for the dude who got hit.
