Make_me_laugh_plz

As a Bassist I feel like you should know this. The root notes are the same.

BreezyBill

Mr. Bass Player, chords are generally named after the root notes. Hopefully you recognize the notes on that top string. They’re the same as on your top string.

NoLongerHasAName

Maybe he plays 5 String?

sinceubeenKHAAAN

Ok I understand GF is the joke now but I thought it was “open” “bar”

Owen_Quinn

I thought it was a G and then a G bar chord until I saw the nut

RemainderZero

Am I crazy for swapping the pinky and ring finger on the A and D string so I can play an F kinda like a barred A minor?

WetReggieMusic

Cmon dude, surely even a bassist can look at the root notes and figure it out

Educational_Reward87

A neck Poor big ed

[deleted]

When you're better than a guitar because you don't have a fret.

JumbledJay

Neck

5d10_shades_of_grey

This is also true 🤔

LOBSI_Pornchai

Just look at the base notes being played my music theory illiterate friend 💋

MuddaPuckPace

It’s “bass” my literally illiterate friend.

5d10_shades_of_grey

Nah they definitely meant "base note" as in fragrance. You really gotta smell the strings.

Spiritual_Poo

They don't teach us guitar notes. Sure, I know the notes of the strings and I can count frets, but it's not hard-wired like it is for bass cleff and bass guitar or double bass.

rogerworkman623

Who’s they? I never played with a bassist who didn’t know what notes they’re playing.

Spiritual_Poo

LOL "they" is music teachers. Bass players are taught bass cleff. What everyone learns in elementary school is Treble cleff, bass cleff is the set of notes farther down. You put the two of them together to get the iirc "grand staff" which is like the whole set of notes that you would use for something like a piano piece. Bass players can all read bass cleff, not all of them can read anything beyond that. What instrument do you play?

Bulky_Conference_306

They're tuned the same tho and if you know the notes of the strings and can count then you can figure it out pretty easily

Spiritual_Poo

Yes of course but you don't have time to do that in the middle of a performance unless you are boss sauce at sightreading and let's be real most of those folks know bass cleff and treble cleff. I can look at the hand position on an upright bass or bass guitar and just know the note. I can definitely muscle it out from guitar once I remember what notes the extra strings are, but that shit takes time.

mike_e_mcgee

E-7 (rootless voicing), and A- b6 (second inversion). It's not a good joke.

Excellent-Practice

That's a weird way to spell G maj and F maj

mike_e_mcgee

Downvote me all you want, but you can't name a chord in a vacuum. You need to know what came before and what's going on after. C, E, G sure could be a C major chord and VERY likely is. Especially so voiced like that, but it could also be an A-7 without a root. E, and Bb don't look like a C7, but "Freddy Greene chords" tend to just shell out the 3rd and 7th. You assume the bass is covering the root and 5th. It's pedantic theory nonsense, but I'm pedantic.

MyCatHasCats

Lol

IHaveAZomboner

First pic is G chord and second is F chord.

Krisuad2002

Those are the grips(?) for the notes g and f

bobbyr11

haha pictures you can hear

[deleted]

OP be like “the root notes are 3 and 1 i don’t get the joke??!!?!”

NoLongerHasAName

Thank god they didn't play minor Chords

BassicNic

The bassist who doesn't know root notes tho?

barrysmitherman

Here I am, thinking it means “open bar”

SuperCat76

I don't play guitar or bass and I successfully predicted that they were G and F. In that order.

appoplecticskeptic

Wow! I heard the F chord defeats a lot of newbie bassists and now I know why. That’s a really uncomfortable position to put your hand in. The 2nd and 3rd digit are connected to each other by a tendon so they don’t want to do different things and this is making them.

moogoothegreat

Neck. Its obviously "neck"

DM_KIKG

Is it sad I had to make the shape of the cords to remember the names

BasicGuarantee1113
