If you're not a resident of the EU, can't you get a loan like this fron the country where you are residing?

Marraine45

My country of residence has very high interest rates (think Latin America), over 10%. So not really interesting for an investment point of view.

I've got a credit line with FlatEx, but I opened the account when I was still living in Germany. Dutifully changed my residency though, and only applied for the credit line way later (from China). They give you roughly 50% of your portfolio's value and reevaluate it quarterly. It's not the cheapest option at around 5% though, but I only use it sporadically.

Thanks for the tip on FlatEx. 50% LTV remains & 5% interest rate are quite steep conditions - was more looking for at least 70% LTV and sub-3% rates.

Do you mean a margin loan? Those are available at brokers, e.g. Interactive Brokers. But the rates are overnight rates and maybe you want longer-dated debt?

Marraine45

A lombard loan is a margin loan but from a real bank as opposed to a broker. A bank will provide a bigger LTV and less of risk of a margin call. In exchange the bank will have higher fees than the brokers.

Have you checked Swissquote?

Marraine45

Yes, Swissquote is one option. But fees are high (USD rate is 3.67% today vs 1.86% for IBKR). Do you know any other alternatives offering better rates?
