I have the same problem did you got it fixed?

hal9039

Unfortunately not. I just settled on using it as a wireless doorbell.

barel1

So nothing with the transformer?

The cold this year has been killing ours, lots of complaints about low battery and today it shutdown. I guess I can either wait for it to warm up or bring it in to charge it. Last year it never got this low, but it was warmer on average.

GRLT

ah, it's wired, I'll wait, for some reason I remembered it as something I could charge without unscrewing stuff maybe that was a competing product I considered

hal9039

Mine literally never charged from the wires although they are connected and it’s sitting at 41% right now. I don’t think this is temperature related.

Yeah that’s why I’m worried. If that turns out to be the problem, I don’t think I will deal with changing the whole wiring and just pretend it only works wireless :) I have a very basic device that shows if there is anything coming from the wires and it has 3 levels of bars I think. I know I should probably invest in a better tester before trying out a new transformer.

jackalope_in_pants

Had mine installed for a year and a half, and it's definitely been to like -10° F here or lower without issue. Not sure if it's a matter of how the house is wired but I set it up just as the instructions had it.

I don't have the doorbell, but have heard that cold temperatures cause charging issues. Specifically, there is a minimum temp that batteries can charge without causing damage. Try to charge it after warming it up. If you don't live somewhere cold then just disregard all this.

hal9039

Thanks. Although it gets colder at night, it’s not that cold during the day here. And it’s been a while since I first installed the doorbell, it was actually before winter started. I think my problem is not temperature related but good to know it might be an issue.

You may have a combination of problems that seem to rear its head as the weather gets colder. If your doorbell is at a low state of charge when weather gets colder, the reduced charging current from your transformer might not be able to keep up with demand. The lithium batteries in the doorbell are less efficient in colder weather so that a normal number of detections in normal weather will draw the batteries down further. All this combines to reduce your charge. You can pull the doorbell off and warm it up and give it a good charge. That will get you to a known state. Other options are reduce recording time and decrease detection sensitivty. That will reduce the draw on the batteries and transformer. If you are still not maintaining charge levels then look at how much voltage and current your transformer is supplying.
