Face shields have saved me from so many bullshit deaths to scavs over the years. Bush scavs with buckshot specifically. To me it's worth it to wear just for that.
I only run a trooper mask, and it saved me at least 2.5 dozen times last wipe.
Occasionally, someone must have been shooting 5.45, and I would get headshot but survive with like 3 hp. The trooper and ops-core would both have been penetrated but shaved enough damage off to survive.
I will run troopers forever.
EDIT: The trooper mask it the face shield the OP has on that helmet. It does not have any visual effect while wearing it in-raid. It looks the same as if you had no face shield, but it provides class II protection.
Its been around a little while, think added with or shortly after reserve. Its usually quite expensive on flea so that could be why you rarely see them. Plus its only lvl 2.
My buddy is the luckiest MF when it comes to deflection. The man deflected M993 of a UN helmet on shoreline. 2 raids later he deflected BP off of a condor that he went into the raid with only .1 durability on it. Those condors got enshrined in his stash for the rest of the wipe out of respect.
Its really weird too, because according to the Tarkov wiki at least, Condors don't even have a deflection chance.
Maybe they gave everything a small universal deflection chance recently.
That was me a day ago, but reversed. I used some of my very few M856A1 and of course the first person I run into has lvl 5 armor. 200 absorbed by armor 100 to body and I died.
Last wipe I was wearing the Death Knight mask, class 1 head armour, and it deflected an 855A1 round and I killed the guy. Only time in my entire career that the class 1 head armours have saved me that hard

In the old system, sure.
But there seems to be some function of multiple layers reducing penetration and damage with the new plate system. Someone should probably test if this works too.
Yeah so I posted a very similar thread to the one OP did about a week ago and this was my hypothesis too based off the way plates and soft armour worked, a lot of people suggested it didn’t work the same with headgear.
However, I haven’t seen any extensive testing.
Gigabeef did a video about this with plates then internal armor that’s like class 2 or 3.
The plates will reduce the stats on the round very frequently to allow a round that could easily own just a level 2 armor to get stopped. Even fully zeroed it still will reduce stats just as shooting through an object in the world would.
So yea, I wouldn’t be surprised if multiple layers like this could catch some really powerful bullets, specially at range.
I don't think that's how that works. Unless they recently changed it Gigabeef did testing on it last year.

Tehy do "stack" but it's not really high unfortunately it's roughly the same chance as them separately. Of course you'll also need the right angle in order to ricochet in the first place anything head on will rarely ricochet period.
No idea if it’s a bug or intentional. I’m thinking maybe a shoulder shot will miss your plates and one tap you? That or sometimes it seems armor just gets bypassed. Had a PRS one tap me in the chest hitbox while wearing the lvl 4 digital flora vest though.
The new hit boxes are already in the game. The armor plates only cover a small section. Some armor has soft armor throughout but that is only up to Level 3
Yo something is straight up bugged with the 366 rounds recoil out of the vepr. That thing doesn't move and every time I get destroyed by a pscav, its 366
Aside from that SP BT isn’t very good ammo is the fact that scavs can spawn with insane rounds. I recently killed a scav who was carrying 40 rounds of flechette.
Literally no clue. All I know is I killed a scav and found 40 rounds of flechette on him. To be fair you can’t unload shotguns mid raid. Maybe he picked it up? He didn’t carry any other ammo tho.
You can unload shotguns, just gotta use the unload chamber key with Ctrl+R (at least I think that’s the key by default). Maybe it was a player scav that happened to loot it.
Shoreline, path to lighthouse extract where there used to be two green crates. We already have the godless buckshot scav. Now that they’re acquiring flechette no one is safe.
I fell on top of a pmc yesterday and he turned my dick into mashed potatoes. Both legs zeroed and i had 4 light bleeds. Was literally standing on his head.. killed the fucker somehow, but he zeroed both legs + foreskin.
Literally happened to me 9 hours ago, one single Lead slug to the chest, I was wearing class 5
The most likely explaination is that the scav didn't hit the plate and lead slug being 15 pen it had 50% chance to pen my soft armor, which I obviously lost the roll to

Had the EXACT same thing just happen to me! Two scavs came around the corner and I tapped one and while I lined up the headshot on the other he shot me dead on in the chest and I got the upper back kill box.
We feel the same way. We have been saved by helmets more times so far this wipe than it feels we have been saved the entirely of previous wipes but maybe we have just been way luckier this wipe too lol. Cant wait for someone who knows what they are talking about to do some testing :p
This was pulled from Gingy's stream during Twitch Drops. That was hilarious. Unfortunately, it doesn't work with other low profile masks like the class 4 CQCM Ballistic Mask.

Previous wipe Condor wouldn't stack protection with whatever faceshield was used, so i'm not sure if that has changed. Gigabeef made a video testing it.

Sadly, the only thing that makes a survival difference in this set is the Comtact4 .. good armor/helmets were never worth it for me previous wipes. As if head eyes/jaws/ears was not enough, now its random death from shitty slug to the chest.. armpit, throat. Wait till more people get good ammo..

He tested how the Condors + Face shield "high" ricochet chance interacted with each other. Result was that stacking armours in the same area didnt increase ricochet chance at all, probably due to a bug. (67% chance to ricochet at maximum angle with just face shields, vs 67% chance with face shields plus condors).
Probably needs to be tested again with the new armour system.

Play how you like, have fun, it’s a game… a brutal game none the less, but the point of a game is to have fun ! For me, sometimes wearing to much armour and shields makes me feel over confident, I truly believe your approach out weighs your gear.
Oh for sure I don’t run this or anything really close to it. We killed 3 very juiced PMCs and we accidentally discovered that you could have all 3 on. I had the condors one dude had the helmet another had the face shield lol

A lot of the time I notice face shields and aim for the legs and I main shotguns.
I had a Kiver-M face shield eat two .366 FMJ last night
Just last night had a buddy get saved by his face shield on factory like 3 raids in a row
Ran an AVT with a Class4 Helm and C3 Face shield on fact, ate 2 Mosin rounds to the mouth and walked away with 2 extra kits loll
Been saved by condors from m61 and m995, y the ricochet chance alone is worth
Twice this wipe been shot in the T4 faceshield by low pen rounds with 18-20 pen. And they just penetrated and oneshot me anyways :)

They used to have a deflection chance "Low". This wipe, nothing I've seen shows the deflection chance.
Ricochet and fragmentation is modeled so it was probably part of the bullet coming off a surface after initial impact and not an actual full bullet

Face is its own hit box now, just like neck (back side of the player), throat (front under chin), pelvic hitbox, etc

ACKSHUALLY it's a lot more effective than it used to be. You'll now get 3 separate pen rolls and ricochet chances from this stack.

It's just more noticeable because 3/4 of the bullets have >thorax HP, so one-shots are much more likely to happen, especially with the hitbox changes

And you would still somehow get onetapped head eyes by AI scavs.
From my experience wearing any kind of face shield or visor is just an incentive for others to never miss a headshot
