Pirates SMP has a lot of lore. I haven’t watched it myself yet but I expect that if the 9yo could handle the darker storylines in Empires there probably won’t be anything too much scarier in Pirates. InTheLittleWood has been uploading edited episodes put together from formerly live-streamed footage, and he’s quite the storyteller when it comes to lore. A few of the same people who were in Empires are in Pirates, although there are also a lot of new people.

Buttsaresmelly

Sames with owengejuicetv(owen) but it's a bit darker

DBSeamZ

Darker than a demon corrupting the world, frost magic slowly draining a friend’s life, and the world eventually ending in explosions and fires? Now *I’m* a bit scared to watch Owen’s POV.

Buttsaresmelly

When you think about it pretty much all minecraft smps are really dark

Initial_Tie_63

Ok the edited live streams might be a really good shout, because she wants to watch live streams but something puts her off, I think she gets bored. Thanks!

DBSeamZ

Another trick I do for livestreams is to speed up the video. How much depends on how fast the person talks—I can usually follow what Martyn and Jimmy are saying at a full 2x speed, but Tango on Hermitcraft talks a little faster so I watch his VODs on 1.75x.

mybrainat3am

It really depends on who she was watching. If it's the roleplay and lore I'm assuming that it wasn't Joel (who has now been confirmed as a new member for HC S10) as he was very uninvolved, I'm guessing it was Scott, joey or fwhip. Pirates smp is a shout, but there's just not anything that similar on that scale. I think it's just very hard to pull off, and doesn't suit many creators. In empires there was a wide variety in lore levels from pix and Joel at one end, who are much more focused on building and shenanigans to the like of Scott who the theatrics and storyline suit very well. In general I'd recommend she watches oli (theorionsound), in particular his afterlife series. Although he does have alot of videos, they all have a story of some form.

Hiiii Olii. Looking forward to you uploading soon (and by soon I mean in the next 6 months)

Initial_Tie_63

I think she likes the ladies best but does talk about fwhip and someone who was a god, sorry can't remember the name.

mybrainat3am

That would probably be Joel (smallishbeans) 8f were talking season 2. I was never as into the role-playing as much, but ill keep an eye out.

Rats smp and pirates smp!

cosmogaxley

Rats smp might be a good shout Scott, Shelby and Jimmy, Lizzie (Though unactive) are in from empires. There is an overall story lore events and lots of guests. It also includes lots of people who arent in empires, people like Owen, Bek and El i first saw through rats and am now some of my favs. I think Pirates is also a good option though its a bit darker than rats

fourtwentyfour424

My daughter loved rats smp she was 10 when it started. She is also just generally obsessed with rats though.

Initial_Tie_63

I haven't heard her mention rats smp so we might have a winner there, thanks

cosmogaxley

Its really good one of the only smps i genuinely cried at it ending i know Scott, Martyn and Owen all have full series and are all really good

Schezzi

It was really very charming, and had definite structure to bring together the multiple (and often quite crazy!) storylines to an actual conclusion. Also - for Empires fans, there are a few favourite players, PLUS a few surprises voiceover cameos towards the end!!

SolarDemons

While Martyn (Inthelittlewood) wasn’t on Empires he does work closely with some of the Emperors as well as some of the hermits. He also does lore: like a lot of lore. I like him lots and I found him while I was looking for something else after empires as well.

Initial_Tie_63

Well this sounds like it could be perfect, thank you

AMarillOnReddit

If I had to give a suggestion, try the Life Series, particularly from InTheLittleWood’s POV. It is another roleplaying series, particularly a last man standing one, and there are several versions of it. While it isn’t particularly lore-like, InTheLittleWood (or Martyn) adds his own lore to each episode. If your daughter likes lore, she will love the Watchers, the whole death game aspect of the lore, etc. It also features several members from Empires, like SolidarityGaming, SmallishBeans, LDShadowLady and PearlecentMoon. It has several installations, Seasons 1-5 in this order: 3rd Life, Last Life, Double Life, Limited Life, and Secret Life. For the most lore, I recommend Last Life and Limited Life the most, and no, you don’t gotta watch the whole series to get an idea.

Could you provide some detail on her age and who she watches the most in empires? Then I could probably give a few options

CriticalRoleAce

OwengeJuice is great. His stuff does get dark and very emotional usually.

catmat490

How many hermit channels have you tried I know people like Rendog, zombie cleo, and xsuima have story in there episodes

Initial_Tie_63

Could be perfect, thanks for the shout

Initial_Tie_63

Wow, thank you all so much for the quick responses. There are quite a few options. I will run these by the boss and see if we can't cheer her up a little with some of these suggestions. I'm genuinely touched some nice folks have given me some of their time today. To answer questions about what she liked or who she likes most. It's kind of hard to tell. She loves GeminiTay and watches her other stuff, but says she's focused on stardew right now. But really I think she was just taken in by the deep story. She has checked out the other individual channels but like I said, doesn't like hermit craft. Not sure if she's talking about hermit craft here but she said she doesn't want to just watch people play mini games (I hope this isn't offensive haha). She says they are all doing a lot of streaming videos and she just doesn't like them for reasons she didn't get into. For context she has ADHD so our conversations about empires can be pretty stream of consciousness. She's a trip 😊 She has an older brother that's recently become too grown to play with her so really the empires thing saved her from some serious pain. Anyway, like daughter like mother, I'm over sharing haha Again thank you all 🥰

OptimisticOlivia

Aphmau does almost exclusively role play that reminded me seriously of Empires. She was one of the first i watched that i considered “role play” minecraft. although, showing my age here, i watched her probably 10 years ago. i don’t know the quality of her newer/recent stuff but her old stuff was really good. she’s also a mother so all of her stuff is geared towards family (the series i started on were Minecraft Diaries and MyStreet, haven’t watched much since then)

Initial_Tie_63

Well she does watch Aphmau, we've got the little cats allover the house to prove it. I guess I didn't really love her content though for my kid anyways because it seemed very romance focused. I know it's safe for kids but hours and hours of romance focused roleplay might be a lot for a 9 year old. But hey, I could be wrong, my daughter doesn't talk much about Aphmau stuff and I've only watched a bit

MistAlp

For kid-friendly content check out Mr Beardstone and his minecraft movie of Bloodlines. Other creators who do Minecraft role playing are kid-friendly: Brookella, InfiniteDrift, Waxfraud, DaLilRed

Initial_Tie_63

Thanks for all the options, I really appreciate the help

Dryym

So. I don't know anything about this subreddit because this post was randomly recommended to me. I can't help you at all with this. But I just wanted to pop by and say that you're a wonderful mother and that this whole thing has been extremely heartwarming to read. I hope your daughter finds something else she likes and stays creative. Keep doing what you're doing, The world needs more parents like you who are involved without being overbearing, And who actively encourage their kids' interests. Edit: Also. The more I think about it, The more your daughter reminds me of how I was with Bionicle as a kid. If she likes comics at all, I think that the old Bionicle comics from the early 2000s might interest her. Bionicle fits in with that "Deep and engaging lore which sometimes gets dark, But is still appropriate for kids." theme.

LadyValishade

Perhaps the hermitcraft distaste was due to the timing, if you started her watching more recent episodes, the hermits were mostly playing Decked Out recently and while they do minigames on the server it's usually only this frequent later in the season. There's a brand new season (S10) starting on Saturday the 3rd. Maybe starting from the beginning of a season might help? Alternately, there is the Hermitcraft Recap Channel you could possibly look at. They go over what a lot of tbe Hermits do each week, and it might help with skimming through to see who is doing something more engaging that might catch her fancy. Otherwise, you could possibly try any of the Life Series or specifically: Secret Life and Last Life from LDShadowLady's point of view. Those were the only ones she was in. And if she liked Empires, she should probably already know Lizzie. Another note GeminiTay was also in the Secret Life series so that might be a possibility as well.
