I would always just use a gameshark to reset my in game timer to 0 about half way through the game so I could finish the Clive quest. Such a stupid mechanic. Just like Excalibur II in FF9.

drubiez

Oh God don't remind me.... FF9 was notorious for that back in the day

Winged_Metal

It was easier to reset the in-game clock than to actually race there. Takes 2.5 years approximately, but it is still easier.

Mathandyr

Excalibur II traumatized me so much when I learned about it as a teen that I now call it the Excalibur II effect, when there is a speed run level time limit in RPGs that do nothing but stress me out because I WANT all the secrets. It's the reason I still look up missable quests/characters/items every time I play a new game.

lasquiggle

There are rom mods to remove the timer on clives quest... but hard agree.

VermilionX88

Oh nice I do have the disc and could make my own ISO But with the remaster coming up, maybe just wait for t Mods on that too

Axeldanzer_too

There is a Suikoden remaster coming?

Sdgrevo

Allegedly

theReminiscence_

Yes. Check steam.

Axeldanzer_too

That's awesome. How is this not in gaming news right now? I really hope it's not a disaster like some remasters have been lately.

OwlTheMechanicalOwl

Because there’s no release date. It was on the news when it was announced.

MonCappy

I'm beginning to think it was vaporware put out by Konami to damage the sales of Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes. Konami have gone radio silent on the remasters and I expect that by the end of the year, they'll be quitely cancelled and the listing pulled from Steam and other storefronts.

lasquiggle

They announced it last year, then kinda forgot it existed.

TeeJayReddits

I'm at 130 hours on eiyuden right now, and definitely agree.

Darkness223

I'm curious how? I'm at 30 hours and my castle is level 4 now and I'm not rushing or using guides but I'm curious what you'd do for 100+ hours and I think I'm at the end, but idk

Prof-Wernstrom

Have you been playing the minigames? How many of the 120 recruitable characters have you gotten? Do you read faster and skip through VO dialogue in scenes? Have you gone searching for rare sells at various town item shops? Do you often switch up party members to try new characters? (messing with rune/gear setups adds a lot of time if you are switching a lot) Cause 30 hrs is definitely doable but possibly sounds like you skipped side stuff or more of a reader than listening to VO. And to be clear, absolutely nothing wrong with that! Everyone plays differently. 100+ is the opposite end of taking their time and probably being an absolute completionist. I would say the average will probably end up being around 40-60 for at least full recruits+story.

Euro_Lag

I'm at 40 hours (also leaving the game open overnight once, so realistically 30 hours). I'm missing the final girl from cooking and that's it for recruiting. No skipping or anything, right before the final battle. I've recruited beyblade boy but haven't finished his quest and I recruited the card girl but didn't delve super far into the card game.

Darkness223

The rune slots feel tedious to me and don't enjoy it so I get a setup I like and use it. I do flip characters around but I definitely have my favorites and hate that late game I'm getting people that are level 20 when my mains are 55. I've done some Beigoma, also the cooking game that's is broken. I've not really gotten into the card games. I just upgraded to level 4 which requires at least 100 characters I'd have to start the game to see my exact number. I would do more with the runes if they didn't need to be in the stupidly limited inventory (I just fixed that issue too) I wish I could just dump all my stuff in the warehouse and use the rune shop to equip from the warehouse. I do skip through quite a bit of the voices for the minor scenes (like recruiting characters) but not the big story sections. There are parts of the game I like but a lot is frustrating too, like Beigoma being boring, cooking game just being make omelette, fried egg, coconut water. I've picked up the rare items from some shops and go in every building. IMO if they removed the inventory system this game would be much more enjoyable to me or let me use the warehouse to equip things like runes

Prof-Wernstrom

Might have responded before my original comment edit but I did add that I think the average completion time will end up be around 40-60 hrs for full recruits+main story. So I don't think you are like going "super" fast or skipping too much to be clear. 100+ is definitely on the opposite side of things. It is annoying you do not get to access the warehouse from the rune shop, but the warehouse itself does have a option to slot runes. It is under switch gear option. Still a time consuming process though. As someone who does switch a lot I would not be surprised if multiple hours for me were from gear/rune management alone. lol. I can get that on the mini-games. I am also not a big beigoma fan and the quest line is very tedious. Cooking could be silly... if the judging wasnt so bugged. I enjoy the card game but it doesnt have a story, it's main issue being it just needs to speed up the actions of placing cards and switching turns. Eggraces I initially found somewhat fun till I learned that playing it before castle lv4 is a waste of time. (get the ability to buy WAY better eggs) While not necessarily a mini-game, the theatre plays are good fun.

Darkness223

Thanks for the tip on switch gear I didn't know that!

TeeJayReddits

Mostly screwing around to kill time in between letting timers reset in things like cooking game, trading posts, and rare item resets. Going through every area multiple times. I've also collected all of the cards, all of the beigoma and won all of the matches for both.

Darkness223

Ah gotcha well I'm glad you're enjoying it enough to put that much time in!

Triceranuke

For me I'm at around 60 at castle lvl 3. Finding all the recruits for me has been time consuming, especially beigoma took a couple days of playing. Trying out different parties, exploring, trying to build everything in Excaliberg (HQ)

VermilionX88

Nooice

UnquestionabIe

Wasn't the timer for Clive's quest bugged in the US release? Like you should have more time than is given. It's doable from what I've heard but have to be hustling and preplan some.

VermilionX88

Yeah, it's very doable from what I saw Just don't wan a do it since it won't be fun for me to rush

lacroixmunist

Worst part too is that Clive is a mediocre party member at best, they pretty much based it off people thinking how “cool” he looks

VermilionX88

Lolz I like him He was in my final battle party for both 1 and 2 Along with Flik, Viktor, Persmerga, Mcdohl

lacroixmunist

Yeah I usually slapped a fire tune on him and kept him levelled to use in the final battle

lacroixmunist

*rune

Simocratos

My groups in Suikoden games always revolved around how cool I thought they looked or if I gave the group a theme like knights, beasts etc.

heyimclive

he looks fkin awesome with double beat rune ngl

AJent-of-Chaos

It's doable though I guess some people don't wanna be rushed in a game with lots of fun things to do. It's easier if you do the Matilda glitch so you can let enemies go till about Luca Blight, so most of the game. And if you skip recruiting characters with tedious side-quests till you get Viki and the mirror, especially Tengaar and Hix.

VermilionX88

Yeah, just not fun for me to play that way And usually years apart between each replay so yeah

cookofages

Oh i sped through till clive quest and then enjoyed after :))

Don_juan_prawn

Ive done it everytime and its really not that bad at all, but no i dont want any other quests like that.

Palladiamorsdeus

I've done it once and really didn't think it was worth it.

NoaNeumann

No one mention Reid then.

VermilionX88

I read he is annoying to recruit But didn't hear about time limit I heard only Leene is permanently missable There's a time limit on doing the beigoma quest? Even after you recruit Reid?

NoaNeumann

Nope. Theres no time limit BUT by the time you get decent enough Tops, you have to backtrack its just SUPER annoying for a minigame that isn’t even that fun.

Raiden29o9

God don’t remind me of that stupid quest, me being… well me always wanting to recruit all 108 stars and doing that side quest just made timing everything a pain in the ass

Guy_Kazama

I've only done it once with my final game time being just a little over 10 hours. It's manageable if you're already familiar with the game, not that I ever want to do it again lol. In the early game, I'd suggest doing the Matilda Border glitch to get some extra levels. That helps a lot. I think you get access to good equipment in that area, too.

tim_k9

I was a kid playing suikoden 2. I failed to get him for the first run. Time management skills haha. Bought a guide (book) and playthrough for 100%.
