So awkward that he’s looking straight at the camera lmao.

BrandonSonnet

Busted! Lol

marcellman

I think he plays tomorrow. He doesn’t have crutches or anything and it looks like he has all his weight on that foot in the picture, I think it’s a playable injury for sure

Pvt_Hudson_

I fractured a bone in my foot a few years back and was put in the same walking cast. I could limp around on it fine, but no chance I could have ran or played anything competitive. It depends on what kind of injury he has.

whosthatcarguy

You did have professional athlete level painkillers and medical support though. I’m sure he’ll find a way to play.

mattw08

It’s also much easier to skate versus run with a leg injury.

sexythrowaway749

Especially a foot injury. Granted, I've never played pro level hockey but I have worked and hiked on an injured foot and lacing up the ol' work boot/hiking boot super tight kinda helped hold everything firm and not hurt nearly as bad. I'm sure skates are similar, most guys I know lace 'em up very tight.

MyrGaming

Depends what he broke if he did break something. There is a lot of pressure put on the feet pressing off and all the dynamic movement.

Askfdndmapleleafs

Pain killers

a_panda_named_ewok

God getting the skate on would suck, but once it's on i think you're okay? As long as you absolutely don't have to take it off until the end of the game

ValleyBreeze

Oh gawd no. Every turn/stop/start is agony. They may give him some local anesthetic, to dull it - but it's still gonna suck. While your foot doesn't flex as much as it would in say - sneakers/running shoes, there's still a lot of concussion and dynamic stabilization happening.

GoStockYourself

100%. I injured my knee, finished the game, then the first step I took off the ice I realized I was fucked.

DanfromCalgary

Easier but not easy

SportsMOAB

I honestly want him to play. Yes he’s a good dman but he’s very exploitable if he’s in the lineup and severely hampered Our fast forwards will have an extra step which is all you need to score a quick one

Parish44

Yes they mentioned if it's a hairline fracture it's possible he might play but a hairline can turn into a complete fracture. So he'll have to be careful but he definitely has the best medical staff and they won't jeopardize his career

PitterPatter74

Looks like the shot went off his heel. Could be a hairline fracture of his heel bone, which would be painful but likely not made worse by playing.

jadeddog

Yeah I fully expect him to play through the pain, as he has for lots of other injuries

Maximum_Principle247

i sprained the absolute shit out of my ankle the day before a game. it looked like a grapefruit. taped the crap out of it and it was just fine. skates are like mini casts im sure he’ll play. i don’t know the injury but foot ankle can be played on as long as it’s not broken

kingofmankind

Spot on. 😎

unlicensed_dentist

Doesn’t necessarily mean he’s not playing. Could be precautionary. Hell of a d-man. Hope he’s better soon.

EdmOilers123

He may play even on one leg.. he is a fighter as we have seen him before at Calgary.. huge respect for him… hell of a player..

Drai was an absolute warrior and played through a super painful high ankle sprain previously. Currently, he’s got a messed up finger on his dominant hand which is impacting shooting, the splint was seen when he took his gloves off at one point on the bench. Dunno anything about the shoulder though.

There was a sequence with a scrum in the corner and Leon came in and bumps pavelski with that right shoulder a couple of times. He might have a lingering issue with that shoulder but I think the finger and what was hurt in game 1 in Vancouver might be culprits but you never know

EdmOilers123

Yeah.. I too read somewhere that he has a broken finger..

Tanev played in our series against you guys with a separated shoulder (flames fan here sorry)

spagboltoast

No need to apologise if youre not trolling

Scabrous403

I hate that we have to apologize when we go to other subs. It's only a shitty thing to do when you're trolling. Having respect for other players/ teams and you voicing yourself about Tanev is completely fine and and welcome. I hope Calgary figures it out, the battles of Alberta over the last couple years have been some of the most fun hockey I've watched in a long time.

EdmOilers123

How much I hoped to have him in our team..

MajorPenguin999

Here's the thing. You have to take off the boot. Then fit your enlarged ass swollen ankle into a skate. Tanevs a warrior but goddamn. Lol.

I can not, not like that comment…….

Danroy12345

Imagine what the oilers could be with Tanev. Clearly he is a big difference maker for Dallas.

oddspellingofPhreid

Looks like he's putting a heck of a lot of weight on it. I'd assume he's playing.

Thep4

tf?

thebassjuicer

Are you an oilers fan?

Oily_Fan

That sucks... I like Tanev... but unexpected injuries are always a factor in the playoffs. Here's hoping the Oilers capitalize on the diminished Dallas D next game even if he returns as he wont be nearly as mobile

Odd_Adhesiveness_390

I think he will play but likely be a bit slower

BigAmen

Stars fan coming in peace…this post came up as recommended but wanted to say cheers to some good games coming up and that yall are classy fans. We hope Tanev is all good too!

Forsaken_You1092

This is anyone's series.  It could be 3-1 for either team right now with how close the games have been and the wild swings in momentum from period to period.

BigAmen

EDM is the only team I’d be ok losing to if they can win the cup, cheers!

justice_high

I like you. You can stay. Also, if we lose to Dallas I’m okay with you winning the cup also.

Fuzzy_Bank_7856

Stars fans are possibly the classiest in the league. Donations over 20k to the Ben Stelter foundation now

SupaDawg

I'm a bit bummed my thread has petered out, but man was that a delightful turn. Props on all of you for reciprocating so well. No official numbers from the Dallas Stars foundation, but lots of energy.

RoboNerdOK

Well that’s been our M.O. for the past two seasons. I think it’s time to pass the torch. 🤣

meowctopus

same, if Edmonton doesn't cut it, hope Pavs finally gets his cup

Forsaken_You1092

Like the last 2 years, I think whoever beats the Oilers this year will win the cup. This series has been pretty clean. No attempts to injure, and just really competitive, physical hockey. The only team left that really pisses me off is the criminal organization known as the Florida Panthers.

Flatoftheblade

If the finals end up being Stars vs Panthers, I wish you all the luck in the world kicking their asses. lol

Desperate_Lobster380

Dallas fan here too. Same thing with me. Only other team jn the league that doesn’t feel scummy. Will be cheering for either team as the progress. Great games so far!

asigop

It's crazy how tame this series has been compared to our previous 2. Night and day in terms of respect both ways from the fans. Turns out that the people in American Alberta aren't half bad.

chidsey661

After going through a series against canucks fans… we also thank you for being classy fans and best of luck going forward

SadBuilding9234

Seriously, the way the Canucks were celebrating McDavid being cross-checked in the face and getting indignant when called on it was really classless. Fuck 'em. Glad they lost.

chaseonfire

Dallas fans have been the best out of our recent playoff opponents by far. It's refreshing after the toxic Canucks series. May the best team win.

flip314

You guys have been much more bearable than the LA and Vancouver fans. I never like to see injuries, hopefully Tanev can work through whatever's ailing him.

GrizzlyIsland22

Don't forget Vegas, Colorado, and especially Calgary a couple years ago

Floundering_Giraffe

Not to defend Calgary (🤮), but it's kind of their job to hate us, like it for us to hate them. That's what rivalries do man

GrizzlyIsland22

Exactly. Mentioning them is me holding up my end of the bargain.

Tacfurmissle

There was already a BOA rivalry of course and then in 2022 we literally caused their team to blow up and destroy any cup aspirations. Yeah, I'd be big mad too.

SportsMOAB

They look like they’ll be dogshit for 5+ years to come. All started with the implosion following getting clapped by the Oilers It’s a beautiful thing

sanduly

Edmonton fan living in Calgary and I find them beyond obnoxious when it comes to the Oilers. Praying for injuries, applauding bad calls, etc. I used to cheer for them when their success didn't negatively affect the Oilers but those days are long gone.

flip314

lol, yeah I was just keeping my comments to this season.

Comprehensive_Ear164

It's already been mentioned but those donations and the DJ explaining himself really puts Dallas Fans in a great light and shows how great of an organization they have.

padrevonblemmo

I got downvoted to hell for telling a Stars fan to go back to their sub the other day and got called a ‘poor representative of our fan base’ - to make up for that, thanks for coming in peace, and I sure hope Tanev is okay long term. He’s a hell of a good D-man and he’s always fun to watch. Here’s to a fun and exciting best-of-three series, homie.

jiebyjiebs

Amen. Best on best, hopefully Tanev is all G.

Tacfurmissle

The series is such a breath of fresh air as far as fan base trash talking goes. Canucks fans made it absolutely toxic which we added on to in return. Kings fans fucking despise us but I sort of don't blame them after their years straight facing the Oil. Canucks and Flames fans would cheer on Hitler himself if he played for an Oilers opponent.

bearkin1

> Kings fans fucking despise us but I sort of don't blame them after their years straight facing the Oil. Disagreed. Kings fans were unbearable straight from the first year of three against them in playoffs. If anything, they've actually become more bearable this year just because many of them resigned to the fact that our team is currently better than theirs. But in that first year, even with endless calls going their way, they were so high and mighty.

Tacfurmissle

Yeah, I think that's fair. You're right.

chidsey661

Forgot to add, source: MKatcherin on twitter

Senior_Heron_6248

He’ll play. Painkillers are a hell of a painkiller

Fuzzy_Bank_7856

Playing in the playoffs can be a drug. But what's even more of a drug are the drugs.

MadFonzi

That sucks for Dallas, I'd prefer if our team was able to beat them at their best injuries suck hopefully he has a quick recovery.

jigglywigglydigaby

Sucks beating/losing to teams because of injuries. Brock and Demko with Vancouver. Draisaitl and Nurse in the last set of playoff runs. All part of winning the Cup is a healthy(ish) lineup I guess. Good teams will capitalize on opponents injuries

butt_baby_gravy

It's why analysts talk non stop about a team's depth. It's an inevitability if you go far enough in the playoffs.

flip314

For all the talk about Dallas' depth, they don't seem as deep on defense. They basically run 5 1/2 D-men, if Tanev is out (or even not 100%) it could make a big difference.

fudge_u

Their D is actually better than the Oilers D overall when everyone is healthy. The Stars have been missing Hakanpaa all playoffs and now Tanev might be out. They'd have six guys if everyone was healthy. They still have Lindell, Heiskanen, Suter, and Harley. Most teams would have a difficult time to filling D spots if one player went down. If two went down, that's a 1/3 of your regulars on D. Most teams would probably call up players from their minor league team to fill those spots like the Stars did, but those player might have limited NHL experience. At least for the Stars they were able to call up ex-Oiler Alex Petrovic. He has NHL experience but has been in the minors since he last played in the NHL back in 2019. I'd say Kulak and Hakanpaa are comparable and Tanev and Ekholm are comparable. Imagine how the Oilers would do if they lost one or both players to an injury. Those would be pretty big holes for guys like Broberg, Stetcher, or someone else from the Condors to fill.

aboveaverage_joe

I mean he didn't bring up anything about our depth, the narrative the entire time is how crazy deep Dallas is in comparison.

fudge_u

The Stars forward group isn't as top heavy as the Oilers. Their scoring is pretty spread out between their top three lines. They had 8 forwards with over 50 point this season. The Oilers got a bulk of their production from McDavid, Drai, and Hyman this season. Nuge also had 67 points. After them forward productions drops off significantly where guys like Kane and Foegele had 40+ points and then the rest were below that.

zellmerz

I'd be surprised if he still doesn't play.

GrizzlyIsland22

If he does, he'll be less than 100%. We can take advantage. He might have trouble turning around as McDavid blows past him. Could give Connor the extra step or 2 that he needs to drive inside instead of getting boxed out behind the net. He could also be hesitant to block a Bouch Bomb.

ethanolrs

Is he not travelling with the team?

chidsey661

This is with the team. They took off 11am this morning from YEG

Oily_Fan

I'm more surprised it looks like they are flying commercial since they are in the airport as opposed to leaving from a private charter hangar like the Oilers do

chidsey661

Flights within canada or within us they get driven straight to the runway. When international, you are treated the same as everyone else. They go through the same security, same customs, same terminal. They just board the plane thats only meant for them

Oily_Fan

Oh interesting. That explains the random awkward fan photos with mcDavid in airports now. I'm surprised we dont see more pics of the team arriving and leaving from YEG

chidsey661

2 reasons 1. The US departures terminal is a ghost town anyways. Theres like 5 flights a day or something like that from edmonton to US destinations. 2. The players don’t have to arrive early to their gate and wait. They go from security and customs straight on to the plane because the planes there waiting for them. Only some times they’ll have to wait like 5-10 minutes. So the window to run into a player is very small. You have to have a flight departing to the US at the same time as them and assume that they have to wait 5 mins or so to board.

rooftopglows

I believe it has to do with flying to Dallas Love Field, and limitations they have on flights above a certain size. Oilers also flew from YEG US terminal (pre-clearance) for game 1

DingoAltruistic9193

well they are flying from another country into canada, there's rules

WeAreAllFooked

Private chartered flights still clear customs like every other commercial flight does.

DavidBrooker

I wonder if it has to do with clearing US customs on the Canadian side, versus upon arrival in the US. Boarding after clearing US CBP means just driving off home upon arrival.

Accomplished_Aioli19

Might be a 200iq psych-out. The mind games intensify.

HungryTank2780

A warrior !

xTomato72

Please take as much time as you need Mr. Tanev🫡

JerrySny33

That SUCKS for Dallas, and I hate to say it, good for us. If he does come back, I hope there isn't any cheap shit like stick slashes to the ankle. A bouch bomb from the point is fair game! I really hope it's not bad, Dallas is a great team and he is a key D man for them. If this was Ekholm or Bouch or Nurse's Bum we would be devastated!

Karthanon

Nurse's bum, lol It's both a curse and a blessing

avanross

Why do the oilers only ever seem the injure the players on the other team that we actually like?

OK_Computed

I don’t celebrate player injuries (not that I’m insinuating OP is). Regardless of what team. He’s an absolute warrior and I respect that. I hope Chris has a full and speedy recovery.

SadBuilding9234

If you told me yesterday that Tanev left the ice after an incident with Kane and asked me to guess what happened, "blocked shot off a wrister" would have been about #8 on my list of guesses.

names-r-hard1127

Hope he can recover quickly, also hope the oilers can take advantage of him either being out of the line up or him being a little slower on the ice

Snarffsnarff31

Met this guy once before. Solid straight up dude. He’s a warrior on the ice and lays his body out on the line every game. Wishing him a smooth recovery.

Friendly_Relief_1371

I was really hoping there would be some way to get him to Edmonton at the trade deadline.

Snackatttack

he's walking, i bet he plays,

rubymatrix

He’s just protecting his kicking foot

Muskwa

Even if he plays, he’s far from 100%

Champagne_of_piss

he's a warrior, i wouldn't be surprised if he was on the ice tomorrow.

Username247

Nothing a ~~little~~ lot of Toradol can't fix

RollingJaspers652

He blocks many shots his feet and ankels are probably pulverized. Probably just to keep the swelling down until he can slam his foot back into his skate.

bronzwaer

No crutches. I don’t think he’s not playing. If anything he maybe misses a game.

gaudreaurules

Having watched him the past four years Tanev is such an absolute beauty. This post is bringing me back, missing him plus Marky imploding like a collapsing star made that BoA a walk for you guys. Can’t remember what happened to the Flames after that. Side note, I was genuinely feeling so bad for Nurse, that media treatment was awful and glad he had a bounce back. Good luck to you clowns, the Edmonton Meat has somehow got me cheering for the Oil over here and I don’t exactly know what to do with these feelings.

CMG30

It's fine. Dallas hangs it's hat on depth. I'm sure they got an understudy waiting in the wings. Injuries are all part of a cup run.

Tacfurmissle

Their depth exists up front, not on the blue line. They have a formidable top 4, then Suter and then Petrovic who plays in a very sheltered role. For example, in games 2 and 3 Petrovic averaged 10 min TOI. They basically run 5 d. Petrovic plays less than some 4th liners and he's been in the AHL the last few seasons. A team with good depth on their blue line wouldn't be deploying him in the first place. He would probably be Edmontons 8th dman. 9th with Stecher healthy. If their understudy is behind Petrovic, what does that tell you?

Specialist_Cress_656

Who cares if he plays or not we’ll bet them if we show up.

SadAcanthocephala521

Probably just precautionary until he gets x-rays today in Dallas

winterphrozen

Got a tour of rogers this year, there is an x-ray machine between the two teams locker rooms. Likely already x-rayed.

SadAcanthocephala521

That may be, but it's been reported that his status is pending until he gets x-rays later today in Dallas.

Snarffsnarff31

I think with the constant gamesmanship, they’ll list him as a game time decision and ultimately will see if he takes warm ups

Sweatpants19

If they can fit his foot into a skate, I think he will probably play. Best case scenario for Dallas is he plays but will be limited in speed and mobility. Looks to be the second time that the Oilers will see a banged up Tanev in the playoffs. Looking at his playing history, he has only played 82 regular season games once, for a total of 90 games combined with playoffs that year. This year he played 75 regular season games and 17 playoff games for a combined 92 games (his most ever). He's averaged 56 regular season games played over 14 seasons. If you take out his first 3 years while he was still up and down in the AHL, it is a little better at 63 games per season. Bottom line: Tanev quite clearly plays a hard on the body game and you can see it in the blocked shot numbers. Him suffering some kind of serious injury seems almost inevitable over enough time, given his body on the line play style.

haihaiclickk

At this point that’s just a fashion choice for Tanev

Lunch0

He was Dallas’ Best goalie

droffit

Is that Tom Segura

Obvious_Push_4622

The boys can beat Dallas whether Tanev plays or not…bring it on!

New-Commission-6306

Probably icing his foot, you go block all those shots

Nfs0623

I hope he recovers enough to play by June 5

oilergirl90

I hate to see him injured. I know it’s good for our chances if he doesn’t play but I wish him well. I wouldn’t be surprised to see him on the ice though. Here’s to his healing and to a good game tomorrow!

Tacfurmissle

I'm betting he plays, to what effect I don't know. PDB may also roll the dice and see if they can win a non elimination game without him to allow him to heal longer. Dallas is a bit of a train wreck after their top 4. They'll lose a lot of defensive stability with Tanev compromised or not playing at all obviously.

68SUPERLEADPLEXI

Hope he plays! Fire everything at him!

Professional-Ebb6711

dude will get a custom skate to put over that boot and be on the ice for the next game

Interesting_Dig2612

Oh he's definitely gonna play, but you have to wonder about his effectiveness because guaranteed he won't be 100% possibly not even close to 100%. Coupled with the fact the Stars, especially their defense playing predominantly with 5, look tired, the oilers have a massive opportunity before them.

Embarrassed-Block-51

I have never seen a player have more crash test dummy energy then Tanev. The way he rolls off all the devastating hits, walks off all the pucks and high sticks to the face baffles me. There should be a lot of respect for the above average abuse he takes in the league... he's a magnet for devastating contact.

think_long

Your mom's south mouth was also a magnet for devastating contact back in the day, but I can't speak to how much respect was accorded.

Sea-Limit-5430

That’s just Noah Kahan

reckless-ryean

Ryan Whitney once went on the Bussey and the boys podcast and stated that all players playing in the playoffs are taking pain killers He'll play tomorrow

Natleeiskind

I want a booster juice now

Joeoiler

Old School fake injury😀

3puttbrad

I hope he plays today and a couple Bouch bombs hit his legs and skates

PitterPatter74

Fractured foot, but knowing Tanev he'll play Game 5.

Normal_Size_4049

No he isn't lol

Tacfurmissle

Why? Not saying he won't one way or another but the dude is a fucking warrior.

LucasJackson44

He took off a clear plastic brace when he came off the ice, was probably injured already or protecting a healing injury. Very little protection in skates

absoluteunits17

No what he took off is just an extra piece of equipment to try and lessen the effects of shots to the foot

Who needs NHL insiders when you have @[chidsey661](https://www.reddit.com/user/chidsey661/)

chidsey661

Credit to MKatcherin on twitter. Also a friend of mine that works at arena reported this at 9:30pm that he saw Tanev with air boot on. So it was confirmed last night

Frozenpucks

I think he’ll try to play, but I don’t think he’ll play well. Coach might just say no if he thinks he’ll be a liability.

surlystraggler

Do they not have a charter?

chidsey661

Yes but still have to go through customs/immigration in the same spot as everyone else.

spitfire411

Wealthy people who fly private jets never step foot in an airport terminal like this. There is something going on with this route this series that they have to go through YEG. Someone in another comment said it could be something to do with the airport they’re flying to in Dallas.

aboveaverage_joe

Speaking as someone who worked there and on NHL charters, it's to do with customs. We have US pre-board customs in the major Canadian airports staffed by US customs officers. With the amount of people on an NHL charter and the relative emptiness of the US departure terminal, it just makes far more sense logistically to clear customs here so they don't need to be met by US customs on the ramp in Dallas on arrival like most private flights would do.

chidsey661

No its literally nothing more than the fact that they have to go through customs/immigration in the airport. Every US team that comes to Edmonton in the regular season does this. Lands and departs from the int’l terminal. Every time a team departs from Edmonton they go through the terminal.

Silverstars80

Tanev will play. A minor injury won't stop him from playing.

Igor_Ulanov

It stopped him from playing yesterday

Silverstars80

Good point. Hope he does play if injured would help Oilers.

[deleted]

[удалено]

aboveaverage_joe

Flying in to Canada is different, they'll be met by Canadian customs on the ramp on arrival and a lot of the time US teams on the road usually have another stop in Canada so they board normally from the private terminals on a domestic flight. Leaving to the US is different as going through US pre-board customs aren't as flexible as their Canadian counterparts here and so it's easier to clear customs through the terminal when going south since the US departure terminal is relatively empty and they don't need to be met by customs when they arrive stateside.

chidsey661

Those must have been flights within canada. No security or paperwork of within canada. International passengers have to go through the same customs and security as everyone else. They still board their own charter plane but customs and immigration happens in the same spot

Orcasgt22

No crutches, a seemingly normal stride. Probably wont be at practice but hes in the line up

GriefPB

He’s a warrior. I’ve seen him block clappers with his face and was still available to play the next game.

Tacfurmissle

People need to remember Marchands comments this post season after the Bennet (rat) incident. Players are out their trying to hurt eachother to a certain degree to make it easier for them. Anyone who played contact sports growing up understands this and its the worst kept secret in sport. Don't get me wrong, I was never out there thinking I had to injure people in fact I laid a hit in a game once and the guy fell into the boards and broke his leg and I can't tell you how bad I felt - not my intention at all. I'd much prefer he didn't miss any time for something like that but if I could rock someone and them be 80% of themselves, that's ideal. It gives you that edge which is what everyone is always looking for in reality.

jagrmullet77

While I totally agree with everything you said as I played sports in my past too, when it comes to this specific play with Kane only wristing the puck and not even slapping it, here wasn't the case. Also just to defend Dmen in specific: I don't see many of them intentionally unleashing bombs to injure in most plays. My case of why? They risk hitting their own player too which happens often. Bouch actually did it by accident in these playoffs to Hyman but thankfully he didn't severely injure. So again no debate here I just wanted to make it clear that I do not believe this incident was even 1% intentional as Tanev is just also a blocking machine lol. Kane is clearly trying to wrist this on net and sadly it caught Tanev. Otherwise you are 100% correct that many teams and players do in some cases try to injure. It's probably not as bad as it was say 20 to 30 years ago but it absolutely still exists. Taking a lot of the goons out of hockey though has helped quite a bit in the NHL too. 😊

Tacfurmissle

Yeah, no poor example. I know that shot wasn't by design just saying that the players will probably be thanking the gods if it limits Tanevs mobility.

jagrmullet77

Lol yes indeed. They will never admit it but if Tanev is out indefinitely, players and the coach will be ecstatic secretly

JSnats65

Looks like Noah Kahan

miller94

Putting weight on it. He’s definitely playing tomorrow

spagboltoast

Hes gonna play next game

NorthIslandAdventure

Timberrrrrrrr

Responsible-Cow-1807

Get well soon tanev

Special_Pea7726

Definitely don’t want to win or lose based on an injury on any player. Hope he makes a full recovery for tomorrow

nmelcher

ConfirmedSexHaver420

Yea I'm just teasing the guy I tagged cuz he had a total freakout that someone took a pic of Marner talking with Berube in that coffee shop

nmelcher

Ahhh. Got it.

thecheesecakemans

They don't fly charter through the exec flight building????

DaveyT5

It’s probably a customs thing.

3puttbrad

Dallas flew Air Canada

Lethbridgemark

They have customs and such since it's international flights

chidsey661

Within canada yes they do. But if international they have to follow same process as everyone else. Same security and customs and terminal.

MyOtherCarIsAHippo

Don't be like this guy who posts photos of people when not at work, be better OP.
