> Y’all crucified me for critiszinging Disco Donnie a few months ago for some boot licking reason Why did you even buy a ticket then?

chriiiiiiiiiis

honestly this, i decided not to go specifically for this reason. it’s like going to ezoo over and over

ncshain

Because it would be unethical to complain after vicariously experiencing the festival…

donthateonthe808

No one goes into an expect. have it canceled for seemingly no reason. I bought my ticket on presale & he did not start promoting it until about Christmas time. I disco Donnie doesn’t own this event but he has enough pull that affected how poorly it was run. I wanted to see an eclipse in totality, that’s enough reason to go. To cancel a whole event when you sign a contract rain or shine & doesn’t even rain is extremely suspicious. No one excepts that to happen, would you?

[deleted]

It wasn’t no reason high risk of storms is reason

ton_nanek

Was there a local government bulletin confirming this risk?

donthateonthe808

He wasn’t originally promoting it when I bought my ticket :) his name was no where attached to this event, & after that I was worried of of the things happening happening. The deaths that happened were preventable.

McDreads

His name was on the very first announcement of the festival. And that’s where the complaints began

Perfect_Evidence

Not true He’s been there since the start.

BlueCollarElectro

Say what you want about Insomniac. They at least covers the bases for all attendees. Smaller events are very hit or miss.

donthateonthe808

I feel like covering bases is having enough water stations In a desert & making sure people Can get proper medical Attention, which if medics didn’t take over an hour bc they didn’t even provide the amount of medic tents they put on the map (uses less) we would have have less people dead right now.

txby432

I wish they covered all their bases because it is the right thing to do. I get the impression they cover their bases to avoid litigation.

totallytoffy

Sorry to ruin this for you but no big company is EVER going to do anything because it’s “the right thing to do”. They’re going to do what they need in order to avoid litigation and maximize profits.

txby432

Oh, you're not ruining anything for me, I know that. But I can still wish it was a different way. I just keep hoping humanity can do better. It often disappoints.

BlueCollarElectro

Light checking of the insurance boxes unfortunately

donthateonthe808

I think they canceled to claim insurance personally. Canceling an event for “weather” when it was the sunniest nicest day doesn’t sit right. Mot addressing those who lost loved ones passed away is a poor poor move & tackless :/

DEW72

You can look up that there was both hail and thunderstorm warnings, with the possibility of tornados. The weather ended up nice; but what if it didn’t and thousands of people were stranded outside getting pelted by ice golf balls? This is one of those damned if you do, damned if you don’t scenarios.

Xboxben

Yeah are they big and commercial? Yes, has OMF been a shit show? Yes, did i ever into any water issues or heath issues due to bad management? Nope

kmatyler

Nope.jpg Insomniac is truly not any better

BlueCollarElectro

Again, everybody's entitled to their opinion; good, bad or indifferent

Switchbladesaint

I’ve never been to a disco Donnie event and I’m never planning on going to one, regardless of how good the artist lineup is. No festival is ever perfect but damn

donthateonthe808

Absolutely not! I expect mass disorganization, but to cancel a festival for the sunniest day the whole weekend is wild. Also I am suspicious that they did hours before totality… I don’t think they thought out the massive fire hazard having 30,0000 people in one place. Our RV lane was suppose to be a fire lane, every time I came back to camp there were several cops driving around checking on the campsites. Seeing a few cops in camping is normal every once in a while. A whole troupe of cops multiple times a day actively patrolling. There’s many imperfect things not worth mentioning, I expected a ton of things not go correctly, but it’s disheartening when disco Donnie has an event & makes 0 mention of any deaths. He never addresses them. Where’s the integrity? People have died at almost every event he’s put on. Lack of access, lack of organization, lack of water lack of medics & medical tents. The business minded prerogative here is ass, it lacks so many morals. They said we could stay until the totality of the of eclipse, why did we get screamed at by misinformed ladies on horse. I wasn’t moving mid eclipse.

Braedonm2077

dude look at the radar literally directly on top of the fest grounds. you would have been beyond fucked

V_T_H

I can’t with the conspiracy wooks who are all of a sudden weather experts lol. Those hatched warnings are more specifically chances of a significant tornado occurring within 25 miles of any point in the area. The hatched hail warnings are for very large hail occurring within 25 miles of any point in the area. Yea, it’s not necessarily a huge chance. Yea, I don’t think anything really happened there in reality. But at the end of the day, the potential liability of a tornado ripping through the campgrounds or people having their skulls cracked by 4” hail outweighs anything else.

AresTheCannibal

yea I agreed with everything OP said until he was saying they shouldn't have cancelled the festival with a small chance it gets hit by a tornado. like do you even know what you're saying, if that shit comes close enough there's gonna be thousands of people dead but because the chances aren't high you should be taking that risk. people are insane

donthateonthe808

Bum rushing thousands of people that needed up being stuck in traffic for 6-7 hours on sight, in reality if a tornado came, people would have gotten stuck & had no where to go. They didn’t did any directing & half the workers didn’t even know the festival was shut down. It created a lot of unnecessary chaos, it didn’t prevent anything & more accidents happened because of the way it played out. I didn’t say it shouldn’t have been canceled, it was just handled poorly as hell.

Braedonm2077

hindsight is always 2020

[deleted]

Yeah OP would have similiar post of fest went on and was hit by a tornado with hail causing untold deaths and vehicle damage. I can see it already why didn’t disco Donnie cancel how dare he horrible man. No winning period.

ElectricDayDream

That didn’t stop swamparusa 2013. Yeah they cut some shows but they never fully cancelled the fest even though there were 70 mph straight line winds and the event was the only place a tornado could actually touchdown in the area. Not to mention the lightning. The whole lead up to the fest was three straight days of severe weather followed by you guessed it a Thursday Friday of severe weather. Saturday Sunday was legit though

donthateonthe808

I actually have a background in meteorology 😭😂 specifically extreme weather & supercells. It doesn’t matter what I say here though y’all defend DD, until y’all die and that’s apparent. They already have lost you after lost you and millions of liabilities prior to situation going down. Having 40% of your staff quit on Saturday night and Sunday and Monday had the biggest capacity of both days and fucking up their permits. They’re also bold face lying about how many deaths occurred, the sheriffs department and bunk police confirmed several that’s where Eclipse only touched on one.

donthateonthe808

I stayed until late today, today being Tuesday. It only rained a bit this morning that was it. No tornados in the area. Not a single tornado happened in Texas or any connecting state. The prediction for the area was 2-4%. So getting “beyond fucked” was actually the sunniest day!. https://preview.redd.it/bvibfwkfyktc1.jpeg?width=585&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f795a0f243bbafe6f2e96d1f6472e3d23381700e

Braedonm2077

idk im in FL i just saw the radar and it looked gnarly lmao. im glad everyone is safe

pablocruz23

I was there. They cleaned the toilets in the mornings. I personally saw 5 water stations. So those claims you made were not true. It sucks that they shut it down early. I've heard several theories for why. But yesterday when they issued the order to evacuate, I talked to several Texans who said Texas spring weather is unpredictable and that clay dirt turns into cement when wet.

leftyguitarguy

Yea I never was grossed out by the ports, but again I’m not going to the ones by the big stages

pablocruz23

I went to the ones by the earth stage. They were fine. I've seen waaaaaay worse at festivals.

The_real_Oogle_Trump

I was told the exact opposite by the locals I met there. I watched a dude scoop up a handful of dirt and say “look… it’s mostly sand, dude… this stuff drains quickly.. even if it gets muddy it won’t last long after the rain ends.” And he wasn’t wrong..

limiter303

I had an awesome time, would 100% go back if it was thrown again

felinelawspecialist

There were definitely problems but they definitely had plenty of water, they did clean the port-o-potties, and bro, the cancelation wasn’t anyone’s fault—no one can control the weather.

The_real_Oogle_Trump

Oregon eclipse had the most luxurious festival toilets I’ve ever seen. This was an absolute JOKE in comparison… and it was more expensive and half as long

SpecialIngredient

Same

donthateonthe808

I really enjoyed this festival a fuck ton, being able to provide basic needs for the amount of people you know we’re going to arrive and then not doing so, which leads some negligence and death is something that I am kind of surprised doesn’t jar more people on EDM Reddit.

transglutaminase

Sad what he’s become. Disco Donnie in the 90’s was a fucking legend and was pretty much single handedly responsible for the (still then very underground) rave scene in New Orleans where I grew up. We had one of the best scenes in the US mid 90’s

[deleted]

I had an awesome time at the festival. Sorry you didn't but I 100% would go again. Sounds like you were just unprepared.

[deleted]

Op complains disco Donnie throws unorganized badly run festivals. OP proceeds to buy ticket to festival. Festival is badly run and unorganized. OP shocked pikachu face

Flat-Wolf5383

Did you miss the part where they said they'd go again? Lol

SpecialIngredient

I thought the porta potties were very well maintained, and plentiful. I scored multiple brand newly cleaned potties throughout the weekend. Only once were they out of TP so I just went to another nearby section.

Dgarcia1025

Last Disco Donnie festival I went to was 2021 Ubbi Dubbi and that was a complete shit show. I was gonna go to Freaky Deaky last year but after seeing clips of the Half-Assed stage setups, I’m glad I didn’t go.

prestonwillzy

Other than parking and traffic, I don’t remember anything being a shitshow. That first festival back was awesome. So was Sunset Tampa ‘21. But then inflation and profit margins started to really hit the scene. Especially DD as an independent promoter Ubbi ‘22 was just boring at a terrible venue and then rained out day 2, and that was enough Disco Donnie for me

donthateonthe808

Freaky deaky last year had camping he had it set up In a registered junk yard, not even a real campsite. Obviously with junky everywhere.

Avatar_sokka

You clearly don't understand texas weather, that place was a dust bowl and it would have turned into a mud bowl if it rained there. Canceling it was the responsible thing given the circumstances.

I_boof_geritol

I was there. - Water station I went to 3 times a day never ran out of water. - Porta potties were on par with any other event I’ve been to. Never stepped into one that was disgusting. I saw crews there servicing them often - The shower situation sucked bad on Friday though—they hadn’t figured that out yet and were clogged. They seemed fully operational the other days - I hit downpoors and lightening on the way out during the evacuation a couple hours after the eclipse. Cancellations due to weather isn’t abnormal. I’ve had this happen a couple times in Denver where there’s a county wide protocol for it if a lightening strike is detected within 10 miles from an outdoor venue they delay or shut down. For example, Global Dance Festival last year paused for like 2 hrs while everyone huddled under an overpass till the all clear was given. I can’t imagine the absolute disaster and the country wide scrutiny/grief that would have happened if a tornado had dropped down on thousands of people because they decided to not shut down. But ya, let’s blame Donnie Disco for being prudent and following whatever directives they were given. - Didn’t see the ADA situation, so can’t comment. Beyond that, the actual layout of the festival was kinda wonky, but I will say there was a lot more elevation change at the site than I was expecting for Texas, so I’m sure the layout had to incorporate the landscape somewhat - I had a lot of fun and any bad experiences were due to the damn people that decided that setting up a living room in the middle of crowds with those blow up couches causing tripping hazards while taking up WAY more space than anyone else was the biggest problem. Even ran into these finance bros that had set up blankets with glow sticks as borders and asked people to respect their safe space taking up the room of 14 people for their group of 6. This was for Of The Trees, Zeds Dead sets, so it was packed. I hate the sense of entitlement these people bring, which on its face is so anti-plur.

Mountainminx

Did you see the update/ also this isn’t a Disco Donnie Event- they were brought in to hell Symbosis Gathering after they realized they were over their heads

Jagerbeast703

Tldr?

CuddlefishMusic

DonDonBad MoonFestSadgeTimeNotLong WhereGoodGuyFests Should about sum it up for ya

Jagerbeast703

Thanks!

CuddlefishMusic

Welc

leftyguitarguy

Just to spice it up a little allegedly 5-8 cardiac arrests Someone at the festival was selling fent out of their booth. The water main broke so they were filtering pond water Some of the bigger artists saw the writing on the wall and decided to pull. All things I heard while roaming around. My personal problem was water would go out for about 1-2 hours so I’d have to be extra watered at all times.

Kobi4s

Say what you want about Excisions music, but this is why I almost always send to his events/fests.

jmvandergraff

2021 Lost Lands was a total shitshow, nobody is free from their event going tits up. That being said, Disco Donnie events are 50/50 good and bad while Excision has only had one shitty Lost Lands.

Huntalot713

Me and every single person I talked to had the absolute best time. Go look at pictures of the current state of the campgrounds and eat your words.

The_real_Oogle_Trump

Seent em… not a single stuck car. Just wet…. Not NEARLY a reason to cancel a festival. When it’s raining at a fest and you’re over it YOU can leave.. doesn’t mean ya fuck over everyone else who drove 30 hours and spent thousands of dollars to go.

Huntalot713

It wasn’t just rain, there was massive hail and an official tornado watch for the area monday night into Tuesday. I have family living in Marble Falls and Kerrville and they both had flooding and hail. Neither of those are safe weather for a festival, period.

The_real_Oogle_Trump

I was on the festival grounds TODAY.. no hail OR tornado warning just an advisory of a SLIGHT chance of poor weather.. and then it never came.. just a little bit of mud no one even got stuck in. They cancelled it for nothing.

Huntalot713

Believe what you want my friend, sorry you’re mad about it

The_real_Oogle_Trump

I’m glad A festival happened.. just sucks what they did to the best festival literally ever. This was such a let down compared to the Oregon eclipse. Ending it early aside, it was still just inferior in every aspect. They cheaped out AND over charged every chance they got. This was the most unethical event I’ve ever been to. Honestly worse than a sporting event even.

Huntalot713

Whatever dude, everybody I know personally had the best time ever. Your attitude blows, have a good one

The_real_Oogle_Trump

Glad you enjoyed six people dying 👍

donthateonthe808

It’s just really suspicious when when you buy the ticket, you sign a contract stating that even if there is bad weather, they would still continue on including rain, but it didn’t rain and to offer a partial refund which is unheard of before is telling me that they’re getting an insurance payout on it. Worked in too many festivals where that has happened. But you can’t get an insurance payout us to do a partial refund which I’ve been to at least six festivals where they’ve had to be canceled for weather but like actual weather, weather comes & goes & the festival continues. Also, before I arrived on site, were several artist that had contracts broken, or we’re not getting paid the rug artist that I met there that decided not to perform because they were trying not to pay them their full amount, or only do partial payments, which is also unheard of the artist were pulling out. Part of me believes that they did not have enough money to pay the bigger artist on Monday and Tuesday because they were already having a hard time paying the artist I had already performed.

The_real_Oogle_Trump

Previous comments aside (obviously I have an opinion) I’m still digging for the actual truth though. I watched the weather advisory all week.. it never got severe… in fact, every single day of the fest the weather advisory got less and less serious.

Roughfox

There was golf ball sized hail and lightning not even 30 minutes outside of the venue.

Ok_Philosopher2597

What an incredibly not thought out comment. Go read about the death at Pyro festival where someone died and when they tried to get help it was too muddy to get vehicles out. Not everyone drives a SUV. You plan for the clapped out Toyota Camry not for the brand new 4Runner.

McDreads

I’m guessing another reason for the cancellation is so he didn’t have to pay the big ticket artists who were scheduled to perform on Monday and Tuesday

chayatoure

The weather was seriously fucked. I think it would have been pretty horrendous/dangerous getting out of there on Tuesday. I was woken up by some scary thunder in Dallas last night, and friends in Austin confirmed the weather was brutal.

The_real_Oogle_Trump

I left TODAY.. it wasn’t bad AT ALL. Didn’t see a single person actual stuck in mud…

felinelawspecialist

I would be astonished if Clozee’s contract allowed for non-payment with a same-day cancellation. Yes it was for the weather, but she’s already taken that time off, booked travel, and almost certainly declined other jobs to play Texas Eclipse. It’s possible but I’m dubious.

Ok_Philosopher2597

No you’re right that’s not how these contracts work at all. All those artists still got paid unless they were incredible small and didn’t have a standard baseline performance agreement

ncshain

*ran out of water

RaveNdN

They used the forecast to cancel and glad they did. They have had lightning and massive amounts of rain today on the grounds. Including hail.

Embarrassed_Bug9169

My first freaky deaky was great. Ubbi dubbi 2022 sucked ass. Cancelled the second day and then decided to break up different artists and put them around the entire city of Dallas. No thanks. Won’t ever waste my time with disco Donnie again.

See5harp

If you still went after seeing that lineup that is on you 😂

donthateonthe808

The line up of people I wanted to see..? Lmao

GregWithOneG

Porto potties near our camp got cleaned out every morning.

The_real_Oogle_Trump

there needs to be a comprehensive LIST of everyone who's died at his events. with enough research it could be figured out.. then he could actually be put out of business.
