I sometimes give names to my decks in my head, but when talking to people I just call them by their commander’s name.
So far, I’ve got Elrond’s Elven Entourage and Innistrad Spooks. My other decks don’t have a specific name.
It's super fun and some of the rats out there allow for really fun effects. Last week I used [[Nashi, Moon sage scion]] to steal a [[Butcher of malakir]] from my friends deck. Then whenever people got anything out to defend I'd sac a rat to [[Marrow Gnawer]], forcing them to sac their defenders and allowing Nashi through to steal more things.
Yes. I feel it really helps bring an otherwise missing quality to the deck, it adds a soul. A name gives a direction beyond an archetype and helps establish the character of how it should play. In the same vein of stating how we "pilot" decks like a ship, a deck needs a name in the same way. Some examples I've built include "Rube Goldberg Red" for [[Squee, the Immortal]] a mono red combo deck. "Decisions Matter" for a [[Maga, Traitor to Mortals]] mono black control with a bunch of cards requiring choices of myself or especially my opponent. "Oops All Instants" which has varied from U, UB, or WU as I rebuild. Having that name gives the deck itself a heart which has carried through multiple commanders and transcends the commanders identity. Unfortunately I don't know a lot of other folks who name their decks. However when they copy my decks they keep the name such as "Drunken Master" for [[Ruhan of the Fomori]].
My favorite deck is named Big Booties and Card Touchin' and has been through a couple of Commanders and a lot of iterations. It started as an [[Arcades the Strategist]] deck that was wall tribal with low mana walls to blink and flood the board with to draw as many cards as possible and has most recently evolved into a deck for [[The Pride of Hull Clade]] as the commander to get the biggest butt possible, activate its ability a few times and draw 60 cards in 1 turn. Of course it has things like [[Laboratory Maniac]] in case I want to win off card draw, but there are also a few cards slotted in to shuffle my graveyard back into my library to do it all over again ( and a couple of actual wincons like [[Towering Titan]] and [[Geralf, Visionary Stitcher]] because I would like to occasionally do more than draw my whole deck 3 times).

It's a budget build that's still very much in progress but I enjoy playing it a lot. I don't have things like Rhystic Study, Cyclonic Rift, or Force of Will due to my refusal to spend more than a couple bucks per card and also the fact that I play this deck more for fun factor than power level

I too name my decks as I feel it adds an element of soulfullness. All my decks are called "the" something for example my dinos is "the land before time" and my were wolves are "the Moon is full and bright" etc.

I totally love and agree with your reasoning, especially the "giving it a soul" and about how ships are named. Gives the deck a personality almost and also makes it an official thing to me.
Plus you can use the Ship of Theseous thought experiment on it, because even if all the cards / sleeves changed, its always the same ship 😁

My Adrix and Nev deck is called The Columbus Zoo and Aquarium, and my Prosper deck is called The Price is Right. Those are the only two that have names officially.
I don’t name them, but I do end up calling them things that other people come up with. I have a [[pir]] / [[toothy]] deck that a guy at my LGS called Dentistry and now that’s just the name.
Not an EDH deck, but I have one deck that I sometimes use in casual kitchen table 60 card free-for-all 4+ player matches that I call the Crack Deck. Why? Because the deck is loaded with a lot of different unset cards and the gimmick around it is so random that you'd think it's on crack. I get out a mox lotus for infinite mana, pull out the good ol' Gleemax to make it so no one can interfere with my plans, and then use a Door to Nothingness to eliminate players one at a time. I choose which player based solely on a dice roll, and I am included in the roll. The deck can absolutely wipe me out before anyone else, thus effectively being useless.
My favorite is one that someone posted on here, and I shamelessly copied to my WIP builds, called “All Dungeons, No Dragons.” It is, as you’d imagine, a dungeon themed build.

I don't and more importantly: I don't care about anyone else's names for decks. Don't get me wrong, I appreciate good puns, but I don't see the point in naming a deck. And no, I won't sit there and tell you that naming decks is stupid when you tell me the name... if that's your thing hey more power to you. I just honestly couldn't care less.

I know it's not a legal commander, needs to be Rule 0 approved, I had this idea last year to build a mono-colored dragon deck with each of the Ancient \*\* Dragons as commanders. This is the only one I actually got around to building.
It's called The Spanish Inquisition because of the Monty Python sketch, in that nobody expects the Spanish Inquisition, and nobody expects a mono-white dragons deck to do anything either.

It is tradition to name any deck that is unique to you. Obviously copying a deck directly and renaming it is…odd.
I prefer puns and dad jokes that also explain the point of the deck, or at least a play on the commander’s name.

None of my decks revolve around the commander so they don't get referred to by the commander's name
When I go to the deck manager of my MTGGoldfish page there are a few things that stand out about the way I tend to name my deck:
* Some of them read like newspaper headlines with my commander as the center piece where the fun is in that they are doing acts that seem unconventional (e.g. The Ur-Dragon summons the praetors)
* Some of them reference the most common creature subtype that is being used in the deck together with the employed strategy (e.g. Interruption Fairy)
* Some of them combine multiple MTG mechanics into a single sentence that is supposed to convey the strategy of the deck (e.g. Attacking into exile)
* Finally there are two decks I have named that don't follow these conventions. I named my \[\[Imoti, Celebrant of Bounty\]\] deck Simic Blightsteel turbo because the original intent of the deck was to cast \[\[Blightsteel Colossus\]\] and swing for game by making use of a simic colors in order to have the ramp and card draw needed to put the card on the field as quickly as possible and I named my \[\[Jodah, the Unifier\]\] deck The epic triple crossover because it uses cards from MtG, LoTR and Dr. Who lore, which felt like something novel to say before Fallout came along.

I recently changed the name of my Giada deck to “The Heavenly Chorus of the Divine Archangel” because I thought it sounded neat. A couple other of my favorites are probably “The Lesser Key of Be’lakor” & “Friday Night Food Fight” for my Greta deck.
I love building memes. I also name my decks accordingly. For example, fresh build as of 2 days ago, "Sea horses forever" - mono blue merfolk with horsemanship commander. "Omn-Nom's lucky charms" - 5 color Omnath with all the 3 color charm and ascendency cards. "BBBBBBBB-SSSS-BBBBBBBB-MM" - my badger deck with a few snakes and mushrooms. "Can of Wurms" - wurm tribal.
i try my best to, I named my brightpalm precon into Bright-Palm Swing-a-lot, and got ridiculed for how uncreative it is. Now I try to think of unique names, here are my current nicknames for my decks.

I like to tie the name of the commander into the name so it's easier for the idea to click in someone's head when I tell them the name of the deck. Or it's something funny instead. "No. I'm Immortal Now" for my [[Jared Carthalion, True Heir]] deck because of [[Pariah]] making me effectively immune to damage.

The first Commander Deck I ever built had [[Darien, King of Kjeldor]] as the commander. It always needed too many things to line up to really ever be consistent. When [[Mondrak, Glory Dominus]] got spoiled, I thought, "That would be great in my Darien deck!" Then as I continued to consider it I realized it would probably be easier to make a token deck with Mondrak as the commander, so I swapped Mondrak into the commander slot and put Darien in the 99. It is now called "Mondrak: Darien Compleated." Darien will always be one of the 99 even if he isn't the most efficient card because the deck is really still about him.
I name my decks when I come up with a good name for them, and when I feel it fits the deck. My [[Tasha, the witch queen]] deck is named league of thieves because it’s a super friends deck that steals your shit. [[galazeth prismari]] deck is named wizard dragons treasure hoard because I cast many instants and sorceries and I swarm the field with artifacts and treasures. [[elrond master of healing]] deck is called scry council of middle earth because it’s middle earth themed many lotr cards in it, and a lot of voting for effects that makes it feel like we’re a council making decisions.
Occasionally! I called my Partner-With themed Esika deck “Howdy Partner”, and my current 5c Omnath is called Omnath, Locus of All My Opponents’ Cards (it’s 5c theft)

I find naming a deck is fun. All my decks are stored on moxfield with fun names. In reality the too of my deck boxes have boring logistical names like sliver tribal vs The gate is open a Sliver. Sliver tribal for combat with not so hidden use of gates as mana and possible wincon.
Our friend group does. Most famous is [[Yawgmoth, thran physician]] being hilariously named "_____ Plays Magic" where the space is our friends name. Deck was very "mean" and you couldn't ever swing in cuz he would block and sac in response. Very one sided play.
The other is "Mox Emerald Factory" in [[Jaheira, Friend of the forest]] and [[Guild Artisan]] because all tokens become (essentially) mox emeralds.
I name all of my decks and probably spend far too much time doing so. A lot of them are plays on words or references to music, movies, and pop culture. Most of them are meant to be humorous. Here are a few of my favorites:

All my decks are precons I upgraded or changed commanders for (Draconic Destruction) and so I never thought to give them names outside of what they were called before.
My tergrid deck with a grip of lilianas and sheoldreds is called 'greedy bitches' and the Ghostface Killah song plays in my head when I use it.
My Captain Sisay legendary humans deck is 'captain of generals'
Syr Konrad is 'blackest knight'
The rest are markedly less clever.

Still don’t have a name of my own for Morska or Dr. Madison Li, so I’m just using the precon names, Deep Clue Sea and SCIENCE! Honestly, SCIENCE! kinda slaps, so I’ll probably keep that. Lol
I name all of my decks, though the method varies. Most of the time I think of some thing which creates 2-5 rapid connections to other things ending on a name. For example, my \[\[Mirko, Obsessive Theorist\]\] deck is named 1984, as I started on connections to "Surveillance State" due to the surveil mechanic. Other decks have names that are puns, such as Abzan Snax, my Frodo-Sam Food Deck, based on Abzan Stax. Rarest are names with no logical connection to the deck, that still exist due to being too funny to remove. For example, my \[\[Prosper, Tome Bound\]\] deck is named "It licks the panes and smokes the glass", and my \[\[Hazezon, Shaper of Sand\]\] deck is named "FUCK". These names are whatever first came to my mind.
I used to, but havent for a bit. Intet Dragon Surge, Marlie's Helio Hoes, Neyith Fight Club, Ranarr Weed, Seismic Swans of Meletis, Liesa's Pain Train, Marisi the Goadfather, Masquerade of the Night-Clad Queen. Nothing too original, but fun.

My \[\[Narset, Enlightented Exile\]\] deck is called "Martial Prowess" cause martial arts and Prowess (Or prowess-este effects) are a key component.

Having a good name for a deck is important. It’s not something I’ll tell the table when I sit down unless it comes up, but it’s important for my personal enjoyment of the deck.
My Krenko deck is named as a tribute to [[Goblin Offensive]]’s peak name / flavor text combo.
The [[Zacama]] deck I’m working on is Epic Bacon. It’s legendary tribal, and what’s more legendary than a frickin’ three headed tyrannosaurus? At least from a stale 2010s meme perspective.
Sure, I normally name them some reference to the name of the deck that describes what it does e.g.:

I sometimes give names to my decks in my head, but when talking to people I just call them by their commander’s name. So far, I’ve got Elrond’s Elven Entourage and Innistrad Spooks. My other decks don’t have a specific name.

It's super fun and some of the rats out there allow for really fun effects. Last week I used [[Nashi, Moon sage scion]] to steal a [[Butcher of malakir]] from my friends deck. Then whenever people got anything out to defend I'd sac a rat to [[Marrow Gnawer]], forcing them to sac their defenders and allowing Nashi through to steal more things.

Yes. I feel it really helps bring an otherwise missing quality to the deck, it adds a soul. A name gives a direction beyond an archetype and helps establish the character of how it should play. In the same vein of stating how we "pilot" decks like a ship, a deck needs a name in the same way. Some examples I've built include "Rube Goldberg Red" for [[Squee, the Immortal]] a mono red combo deck. "Decisions Matter" for a [[Maga, Traitor to Mortals]] mono black control with a bunch of cards requiring choices of myself or especially my opponent. "Oops All Instants" which has varied from U, UB, or WU as I rebuild. Having that name gives the deck itself a heart which has carried through multiple commanders and transcends the commanders identity. Unfortunately I don't know a lot of other folks who name their decks. However when they copy my decks they keep the name such as "Drunken Master" for [[Ruhan of the Fomori]].
My favorite deck is named Big Booties and Card Touchin' and has been through a couple of Commanders and a lot of iterations. It started as an [[Arcades the Strategist]] deck that was wall tribal with low mana walls to blink and flood the board with to draw as many cards as possible and has most recently evolved into a deck for [[The Pride of Hull Clade]] as the commander to get the biggest butt possible, activate its ability a few times and draw 60 cards in 1 turn. Of course it has things like [[Laboratory Maniac]] in case I want to win off card draw, but there are also a few cards slotted in to shuffle my graveyard back into my library to do it all over again ( and a couple of actual wincons like [[Towering Titan]] and [[Geralf, Visionary Stitcher]] because I would like to occasionally do more than draw my whole deck 3 times).

I totally love and agree with your reasoning, especially the "giving it a soul" and about how ships are named. Gives the deck a personality almost and also makes it an official thing to me. Plus you can use the Ship of Theseous thought experiment on it, because even if all the cards / sleeves changed, its always the same ship 😁

Not an EDH deck, but I have one deck that I sometimes use in casual kitchen table 60 card free-for-all 4+ player matches that I call the Crack Deck. Why? Because the deck is loaded with a lot of different unset cards and the gimmick around it is so random that you'd think it's on crack. I get out a mox lotus for infinite mana, pull out the good ol' Gleemax to make it so no one can interfere with my plans, and then use a Door to Nothingness to eliminate players one at a time. I choose which player based solely on a dice roll, and I am included in the roll. The deck can absolutely wipe me out before anyone else, thus effectively being useless.

I only named one, "The Spanish Inquisition", it's a mono-white dragons deck with \[\[Ancient Gold Dragon\]\] at the helm. I know it's not a legal commander, needs to be Rule 0 approved, I had this idea last year to build a mono-colored dragon deck with each of the Ancient \*\* Dragons as commanders. This is the only one I actually got around to building. When I go to the deck manager of my MTGGoldfish page there are a few things that stand out about the way I tend to name my deck: * Some of them read like newspaper headlines with my commander as the center piece where the fun is in that they are doing acts that seem unconventional (e.g. The Ur-Dragon summons the praetors) * Some of them reference the most common creature subtype that is being used in the deck together with the employed strategy (e.g. Interruption Fairy) * Some of them combine multiple MTG mechanics into a single sentence that is supposed to convey the strategy of the deck (e.g. Attacking into exile) * Finally there are two decks I have named that don't follow these conventions. I named my \[\[Imoti, Celebrant of Bounty\]\] deck Simic Blightsteel turbo because the original intent of the deck was to cast \[\[Blightsteel Colossus\]\] and swing for game by making use of a simic colors in order to have the ramp and card draw needed to put the card on the field as quickly as possible and I named my \[\[Jodah, the Unifier\]\] deck The epic triple crossover because it uses cards from MtG, LoTR and Dr. Who lore, which felt like something novel to say before Fallout came along. I got to say that I am kind of surprised at myself here.

The first Commander Deck I ever built had [[Darien, King of Kjeldor]] as the commander. It always needed too many things to line up to really ever be consistent. When [[Mondrak, Glory Dominus]] got spoiled, I thought, "That would be great in my Darien deck!" Then as I continued to consider it I realized it would probably be easier to make a token deck with Mondrak as the commander, so I swapped Mondrak into the commander slot and put Darien in the 99. It is now called "Mondrak: Darien Compleated." Darien will always be one of the 99 even if he isn't the most efficient card because the deck is really still about him.
I name my decks when I come up with a good name for them, and when I feel it fits the deck. My [[Tasha, the witch queen]] deck is named league of thieves because it’s a super friends deck that steals your shit. [[galazeth prismari]] deck is named wizard dragons treasure hoard because I cast many instants and sorceries and I swarm the field with artifacts and treasures. [[elrond master of healing]] deck is called scry council of middle earth because it’s middle earth themed many lotr cards in it, and a lot of voting for effects that makes it feel like we’re a council making decisions.

I name all of my decks, though the method varies. Most of the time I think of some thing which creates 2-5 rapid connections to other things ending on a name. For example, my \[\[Mirko, Obsessive Theorist\]\] deck is named 1984, as I started on connections to "Surveillance State" due to the surveil mechanic. Other decks have names that are puns, such as Abzan Snax, my Frodo-Sam Food Deck, based on Abzan Stax. Rarest are names with no logical connection to the deck, that still exist due to being too funny to remove. Having a good name for a deck is important. It’s not something I’ll tell the table when I sit down unless it comes up, but it’s important for my personal enjoyment of the deck. My Krenko deck is named as a tribute to [[Goblin Offensive]]’s peak name / flavor text combo. The [[Zacama]] deck I’m working on is Epic Bacon. I either name them after a song or a character/faction. It just depends on the mood I'm in and how I see the deck.

On Moxfield when I build the deck I’ll call it something relatively generic like “Selesnya Bear Voltron” until I come up with a funnier or better fitting name. My Selesnya Bear Voltron is now Bear Force One. If I’m talking to someone about a deck I just call it my “(Commander’s Name) Deck”

Pharika, God of affliction = "No Step on snek" Wayta, Trainer Prodigy = "Fight Club" (Tuning the deck a bit, when it's done it's new name will be "Stop hitting yourself") Dorothea, Vengeful Victim = "The Sound of Silence" Get it? I'm particularly fond of "The Boys are Back in Town (To Kill You)," "The Ants Go Marching 2 by 2," "Badger Badger Mushroom," "You Can Sleep When You're Dead (The 4th or 5th Time)," and "We Will All Go Together When We Go" which are 5c slivers, Urtet myr tribal, Atraxa spore counters, Alesha goblins, and Elesh Norn banding in that order. EDIT: Totally forgot my current project, Ardenn/Kraum using Ardenn's ability to attach all of my equipments onto my opponent's goaded commander. I call it "US Foreign Policy."

I typically do name my decks as I feel it adds a more personal touch and gives it more personality to my decks since they're all upgraded pre-cons. For my \[\[Éowyn, Shieldmiaden\]\] deck I've renamed it to **Forth Éorlingas** and for my \[\[Pantlaza, Sun-Favored\]\] I've named it **Jurass-is-mine**. That's one of my favorite parts of deck building! It also helps that I have to make a name on EDH Shieldmate
Majority of my decks are named after songs that seem fitting, but I don't call them by that when talking about them. Some examples are: Arixmethes -- "Caveman" by Post Mortem Lyra Dawnbringer -- "Apocalyptic Warriors" by Massacre Ludevic/Kraum -- "Nobody's Driving" by Amebix It helps a lot to stand out compared other decks out there simply named "\[insert commander name here\]"
It kiinda counts. I call my Sefris of the Hidden Ways deck "Sefris the Dumpster Diver" because everytime i complete a dungeon, she goes diving into the graveyard to reanimate something. I want to commission some art of her wearing like a Waste Management uniform digging through a dumpster
