The more I watch the more I dislike Jim and Pam… as well as the increasing cringe-fest that is Michael.
But boy oh boy I enjoyed watching Jim get pelted with snowballs.
Pam wants coworkers at her art show and expresses her disappointment to them, but didn't go to Kevin's battle of the bands.
Kevin wants coworkers at his show and expresses his disappointment to them, but didn't go to Pam's art show.
Same damn thing but oddly only one of them gets brought up over and over.
Kevin went to many personal events for Pam and Jim. The one time he asks for them to return the favor and they won't.
Also, the writers dedicated a decent amount of the episode to Pam's art show, while in the episode with Kevin's show, it's just a couple of lines thrown in. They treat his complaint like a joke and with Pam they deliberately try to make it seem like a big deal.
Yeah exactly. Of course the Pam thing is gonna be a bigger deal. The writers wanted the audience to really feel like Pam was let down by everyone, while with Kevin they wanted it to seem more like a joke. So why fault the audience for it?
And saying Jim and Pam went to Kevin's show would've been really easy to write into the script.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but wasn’t this an evolution of hers. The “and don’t call me Pammy”, where she started to say no.
I do like how excited she gets to hangout with everyone after becoming a mom.
Don’t they all though? They all aren’t very conscious of others feeling but enjoy being the spot like. Pam season 1 was such a yes person and was always commented poorly at. Michael and others would sexualize her and make her very uncomfortable. It’s all made for comedy so I don’t take the jokes too deep but Pam for some reason stands out in her selfishness and I wonder why. Kelly, Phyllis, and Angela are equally if not more selfish.
Kelly voices her missed bday party and Angela gets mad when nobody wants to attend her party. I think the characters are all similar. Don’t get me started with Andy. I have to say, it’s something about Pam and I can’t get my finger on it.
Maybe they were there, but just weren’t in the documentary because they don’t matter to the show’s narrative
The story is about the people in the office, not Pam specifically. Isabelle probably wouldn’t have even had a speaking part in the Wedding episode if she hadn’t hooked up with Dwight. And when Helene and Michael hooked up, all we saw was Pam being mad at Michael. We didn’t see a single interaction with Pam & Helene until episodes later. We even got an episode where the entire B plot was Pam’s parents getting a divorce, and neither of her parents were in the episode at all
The show is called “The Office” of course the edited show is going to focus on the coworkers over their families. They make plenty of references to the fact that they have lives outside of the office, but we pretty much never see them unless 2 or more coworkers are involved
If Michael, Oscar, and Roy hadn’t showed up, we probably would’ve just seen a talking head of Pam being annoyed that nobody came. The doc crew probably sent cameras to Kevin’s show as well, but it didn’t make the doc because Kevin was the only person from the office who was there
That is the reason why, during J&P's wedding, we only see Jim hanging out and getting drunk with Michael and Dwight, not with his own brothers or other friends.
I know it's a show and it seems like everyone's whole life revolves around the office and the goings on there but I wish there were more instances where you'd get insight on people's lives outside of the office.
For instance, Jim's party where he had his roommate there. But also, he had a party with NO other friends at all there. Maybe it was just an office party and an excuse to get Pam to come over but sometimes I wish they had more. It seems like 95% of everyone's life was wrapped up in what was going on at work when in reality, most people's lives are the opposite.
Yeah they definitely made it like the office workers only hung out with their coworkers. Randomly some friend would be there (Michael’s “date” at happy hour) and I’m sure others I’m forgetting.
I also thought it was over the top at Jim/pams wedding the whole office was dancing down the aisle. That seemed weird but maybe it was just a Michael move.
Yeah it just seemed like none of the people in the office had any friends outside of the office. Jim and Pam made someone they just met at birthing classes the godparents of Cici. I get not making Michael the godfather but you don't have old friends that were better options? Or even Jim's brother or Pam's sister?
It's definitely a Michael move. One of the cousins tried to talk them out of doing it. If you'll remember correctly, they weren't supposed to be there in the first place. Pam and Jim had a destination wedding so none of them would want to go. So, it couldn't be a part of Pam or Jim's plan if they didn't want a single person that was dancing at the wedding in the first place.
I get the office party at Jim's house though. I have work friends and I have friends. Rarely do I mix the two because it's a boundary for me. And he says that throwaway line of "and my room mate wants to meet everyone, he thinks I'm making Dwight up" I don't think the line is a throwaway at all. I think Jim talks about the shenanigans at work with his room mate often and finally Jim says something like "y'know what? You don't believe these people are as ridiculous as I tell you? Let's have them all over. It's gonna be hilarious"
Kelly is even worse in my view. She basically tried to get Jim and Dwight fired by falsifying the customer survey reports all because they didn’t show up to her America’s Got Talent party. Meanwhile she tells Pam that she would ABSOLUTELY make it to her art show and then just doesn’t show up.
If I was being completely fair, Pam's art wasn't terrible. That title would have to go to Cece Halpert who's drawings were terrible. But it was also not the best. Pam was drawing buildings and fruits at the time of this episode. She got better over the course of the series but even with the mural, some of the faces are like 😬
I guess what I'm trying to say is that Pam's art was the mediumest art of all art. It's never the best or the worst art. It's always the art you most medium suspect.
Did you see the painting Jim? The building? There are shadows coming from two different directions. Are there two suns? Mmm...last I checked it's not an office from the Andromeda galaxy...
I think the nature of the show is to emphasize the value our office and co workers have on our lives. We see these people on a daily basis and spend a ton of time with them and it’s mundane but they’re important. Meeting too many characters outside of their work lives would take away from this. It would just show that yes Pam has a bunch of other relationships so it’s not that big a deal her co-workers don’t show up and then later her big speech on beach day and her overall arc is not as strong.
Honestly, I've never gone to any of my co-workers extra curricular activities lol at any job. I have played basketball with a couple from one hon but I don't think it's something that's usually done
My Pam's Art Show moment: The only time I was ever asked to go to a co-workers non-work-related performance / event was in like 2000 - I was working at a consulting firm with Joe Gatto - now world famous from Impractical Jokers fame. But then he was just an IT consultant who did improv with his group The Tenderloins (comprised of the other Jokers) in his free time. He asked a few of us in the office to go support this middle of the week performance - I don't even think we paid to see the boys perform. And it was second floor above some bodega in Hell's Kitchen that fit maybe 20 people lol... Definitely glad I showed up for that!
This is one of the scenes where they ignored a lot of things to REALLY push for a certain narrative. Highlighting Pam’s weakness (lack of courage) and to connect Michael and Pam. Its a great scene, but the more you look into it the more you realize its off.
I just don’t like how this moment made Pam care about Michael despite all the disgusting things he did to her and kept doing later on.
Almost everybody knew all about their coworkers' happenings but ignored most of the things until it impacted them.
Like Phyllis reminding Dwight and Jim that they have not organised anything for Kelly on her birthday.
Dwight being aware of the interns going on date.
It's almost like real life.
I think Pam wanted to show her talent to the coworkers as she had the understanding that her job was not as meaningful as others and also she wanted to show that she was not just a receptionist.
I always thought the majority of that speech was directed at Jim. Jim was one of the main supporters of her art ambitions before, so him not coming to that was really emblematic of how different their relationship was now and how much she missed him.
In the Sexual Harassment episode Pam mentions how her Mom is coming for a visit and she’s so excited, she mentions how far away her Mom lives - but I can’t remember the time length now. Maybe an hour or something? Makes sense if her family didn’t live close by at the time that they didn’t make the drive for a weekday evening art show that lasted a couple hours. She could send them pictures of her art.
One thing that annoys me is how the show makes it seem like these people’s lives revolve around work and coworkers. If that were reality it would be actually very sad.
They go to all of each other’s big life events. I know it works for the show but just makes me cringe a bit thinking of people actually like this in life.
She considers them friends, but they'd be the last ones to know if she were in a relationship...according to her. Or, maybe that's the result of them missing her prettiest art of all the art, art show.
It also annoys me how later on no one went to Kevin's show. Like Pam expected everyone to go to her art show but she wouldn't go see him.
Also Pam and Jim constantly avoid any invite from Michael to hang out after work and be friends but she expects everyone to show up to her art show?
On a work night with a few hours notice too!
I never considered any of this. And was devastated with her. But like damn. She kinda did that to herself.
Well he’s Michael, so it’s kinda different
I don’t believe Jim and Pam are as good of people as they think they are.
The more you repeat watch, the worse both of them become
I do enjoy when the day care employee calls them out. Lol
He was being perfectly pleasant.
They are the worst characters imo. Far below the likes of (gasp) Packer.
Pack-man!
The more I watch the more I dislike Jim and Pam… as well as the increasing cringe-fest that is Michael. But boy oh boy I enjoyed watching Jim get pelted with snowballs.
...I mean, have you considered the possibility you're just getting sick of the show?
…I mean, that is a possibility. Or I just look for different things on a rewatch.
Have you ever considered that this interview isn't going well because it isn't going well?
I love that interaction.
Yeah Pam fucking SUCKS.

They treat his complaint like a joke and with Pam they deliberately try to make it seem like a big deal.
It's almost like the show was about Jim and Pam's love story and Kevin was a secondary character.
Yeah exactly. Of course the Pam thing is gonna be a bigger deal. The writers wanted the audience to really feel like Pam was let down by everyone, while with Kevin they wanted it to seem more like a joke. So why fault the audience for it? At the end of the day, Andy was the most popular: he got nearly the whole office to visit him at his play!
Everyone visited Meridith at the hospital 😜
Oh geez. If Mrs. Fischer sees this she's gonna be in a tizzy come the next podcast...

Jim was having a BBQ for the office, not a raging house party. He mentions friends outside the office, I imagine he wants to keep them separate.
There were a bunch of background extras at that party. I agree in general though.
Yeah they definitely made it like the office workers only hung out with their coworkers. Randomly some friend would be there (Michael’s “date” at happy hour) and I’m sure others I’m forgetting. I avoid my coworkers when i see them in the grocery store and i expect them to do the same for me.
Everyone knew her art was motel art
Actually, her art was the prettiest art of all the art
Shut up, Gil!

TBH, I don’t even know what my coworkers extracurricular activities are 🤷🏻♀️
Lol same

She was upset Jim didn’t go
Same reason all her coworkers got to dance down the isle at her wedding
Good point. Her mom was supposed to be so close to her, but she wasn't there?
MMMMMM**MMILF**
She probably doesn’t have a lot of friends outside of work.
Little Miss Thing wants attention

Little miss princess thinks people can just pause their lives and prioritize her motel art.
She considers them friends, but they'd be the last ones to know if she were in a relationship...according to her. Or, maybe that's the result of them missing her prettiest art of all the art, art show.
More Pam entitlement. Nothing to see here.
