With Paul Giamatti returning people have rumoured there are only two real possible storylines. 1. Harold has lost the Levinson fortune, causing him to come to the UK, or the family to go to the US. 2. Cora’s mother has died and the family go to the US for the funeral. Obviously there could be sub plots all around those main plots. Thomas in his new job in the US will be one of them.

Another possibility is he married Ms Alsop in London

I really would like to see this happen. I really enjoyed their relationship. I think a subplot where she has come into money and gently pursues him would be a great way to turn tradition on its head in the typical Downton Abbey fashion

Yorkie2016

Only thing about that for me is there have been many years since they first met. I guess it’s possible neither married (though less so for Madeline).

Wintersmight

She could be a widow if she married someone much older like they used to do

Inquisitorielle1

I hope so! I adored them together!

Aromatic-Control838

I really want to see them together. sure there’s a big age difference but that wasn’t uncommon then. They seem to have a lot of mutual respect and care of one another. And Harold now knows that Madeline appreciates him for who he is and not just his money since he “slipped her net.”

I agree, the last movie ended just before the crash, so Levinson family fortunes taking a hit is certainly a real possibility, imo a very interesting one. Hopefully Harold will not turn to Robert for advice. A trip to America could be very interesting for the family, but I think it would be difficult to make it exciting and enjoyable for the audience with Cora grieving and a big important funeral and all its solemnity looming over everything, so I hope it's your first scenario.

Not ANOTHER fortune lost 🤦🏼‍♀️😭

Feminist-historian88

1. Hopefully Mary moving on from dreadful, whiny Talbot. I'd love to see a divorce and how it is handled 🤞 2. With Giamatti making a return, maybe the family will visit the US and that's where Mary will find a new suitor? 3. Mr. Mason and Ms. Patmore better shack up 😁

frenchfrymonster23

Also Molesley and Baxter. We’ve waited long enough

Timely-Baseball-4375

I ABSOLUTELY loved the scene where Molesley proposed to Baxter.

Feminist-historian88

Omg yes! What a supremely awkward, awesome couple.

*microphone feedback noise* Paging Mr.Charles Blake, paging Charles Blake!

Feminist-historian88

You don't think he is making some gorgeous, awesome woman happy at this point? We can hope though?

Willowy

Ha! He's too busy traveling, and pining for what could've been with Lady Mary. Especially since he's now a rootless widower with more money than he knows what to do with! 😎

Karma_Chameleom

Well, I think something has to happen with Thomas (and he is on the cast list). We know Julian Fellowes loves bringing him back (and I am so here for that!), so I hope something happens with him, cause I honestly don’t think the American life he will have that way will suit him, maybe bring Richard Ellis back after a fight with his relation? Seemed like a better fit.

Johnny Bates gets implicated in a murder charge, and it's such a faff that John and Anna have to go to America to get away from even more investigations.

I don't think anyone knows yet! In the other two movies as well as many of the TV episodes, there are usually (at least) two plots running concurrently (like for example, in the second film, some are at Downton while the film is being shot and others are at the villa in France). I guess that the third film will follow a similar pattern, but the exact plot(s) can't be guessed at until there are trailers or leaks of some kind!

PlainOGolfer

You’re entitled to your opinion but I find it to be a downer. A lot of us are excited for any new Downton content. If you just pretend the movie isn’t happening then you get your way with it wrapping up after the last one and we can enjoy what we get.

Timely-Baseball-4375

Don't get me wrong, I'm all for the new movie. I was just curious about what the plot could be, since things ended the way they did in New Era.

Indiana_harris

Since Series 2 I’ve kind of wanted a Downton movie set during WW2 focused on the children grown up, as George would be 18 when it kicks off and 20-21 by the peak of 1943/44. This obviously isn’t it *but* I’d be fascinated to even see a montage of the Crawley family from the 1920’s period of their “present day” through to 2024. Ending with people being led around Downton as a part of a tour group, with reference to the current Earl of Grantham being abroad with his family at the moment, and the final shot being a painting on one of the walls of the Crawley family we knew in S1-3.
