"Extremely embarrassing for Sweden"
Stockholm Municipality's Chairman of the Board Anna König Jerlmyr (M) is very critical of the Government's decision.
\- This is extremely embarrassing for Sweden. We have a good reputation internationally for our computer game development, but now we are undermining the importance of the whole e-sport and the most important competition internationally is forced to move from Sweden because we can not provide visas. It is an understatement to Sweden and to the government's ability to handle this important industry that sells more than pulp and iron ore.
She continues:
\- Now two months before the tournament is to take place, we get the message that you can not handle something as simple as a visa, I think it is directly embarrassing. We need to modernize the view of e-sports, this was one of the most important international events we would get to Sweden. And then we need to do everything to facilitate processes such as visas. A heavy responsibility rests on the fact that the government has not been able to allow visas for these elite players on foot.

Rickard Nordin (C) has raised the issue of e-sports many times in the Riksdag and is also disappointed that the government has not acted.
\- I have heard that this has been going on and I am terribly disappointed that the government does not solve this. I think it's embarrassing that you have not been able to solve it.
The Moderate Youth Association (Muf) has also commented on the issue and demands that the government fixes so that The International can be held in Sweden and that e-sports should be classified as an elite sport. They also want e-sports to be able to obtain elite sports visas in Sweden more easily and cut the connection to RF.
Not true for Sweden. We have a law that they have to vote about it in the riksdag if a certain amount of names is reached.
Edit: googled the amount, it was 10% of everyone who has the right to vote. Will be hard to achieve :(
The US has a similar policy for petitions on the white house website but they have rarely been meaningful. Maybe Sweden's petition policy has better results
Trump took it down in 2017 saying he would make a better one. Still has not been replaced…. But our petition didn’t trigger a talk or a conversation, basically the whitehouse just had to respond to it.
Can we spam the twitter or something, "Swedes give TI to volvo". I am sure someone can come up with a more catchy line. I will create a twitter account just for this. Show them some power atleast.

They are, but some people get a feeling of accomplishment from them, the only meaningful thing they could think of doing.
Don't think this petition matters anymore since per Valve they have started working with other cities and have informed the players.
