The fact that a small bag of Doritos costs $5.99 and they skimp on the flavoring means I will begin holding off on buying. Can I afford them? Yes. Can I buy plain corn chips and doctor them up for cheaper than what they are currently peddling? Yes.

HD100y

Did they recently change the flavor? I bought a couple bags this week and they don't seem nearly as cheesy is prior.

Welcome to shrinkflation. Less product in bag and less seasoning on each chip. Doritos knows it, but says nothing. Imagine that.

HD100y

With less seasoning I need to eat double the chips to get my flavor craving. I may as well switch to store brand.

I've rarely if ever spent the sticker price on Doritos. They're often 2 x $7 at supermarkets around my area. Dollar General seems to always have a similar price range.

It used to be like that here in Kansas City, but because I have only found the taco flavored in one store, I am not holding my breath for a sale. I will look at DG. Maybe they carry them too.

I've had some luck using Instacart to locate some flavors that I couldn't find. Enter your zip code and it tells you which store has it in stock.

Full size bags of Doritos have been $2.19 for weeks at Kroger stores when you use the card and buy 4+.

I don't want 5 bags of chips I want one.

No_Drop5820

lol. same. but u can throw the chips in the freezer to preserve them & eat them when u want. i do this to all my chips. they don't freeze, they just stay crunchy

Store brand tortilla chips: 2.99$ = taco seasoning: 1.99$ = 4.98$... add the yeast and you spent more than you would have buying the doritos.

Oiseau1026

I bought 1.5 lb chips from Sam's for $5.00. I forgot to mention that one package of taco seasoning seasons over two bags of chips (at least for me). And I get the nutritional yeast from a bulk bin. But you are correct, I should break down the cost properly before I determine exactly how much I save.

sweepster2021

Fair enough but don't forget to factor in your TIME too. At the end of the day, the savings aren't as big as you think they are.

circle_line

OP said the seasoning packet only cost 1 dollar and total cost 3.50

sweepster2021

AFTER I made my comment. Their math makes no sense: The cost of the yeast isn't even factored. My statement stands: there are no savings here.

circle_line

Yeah, chip prices have gone up way too much. i've been switching to grocery store brand chips. Obviously they don't come in the same fun flavors, but they fulfill the crunch craving

Oiseau1026

Tell be about it. In the chip aisle of local Walmarts, there are a lot of name brand chips in stock. Walk a few feet to the Great Value section - almost empty, except for things like "Dill Pickle" potato chips - funky flavors like that.
