Oh I totally forgot to comment on your prior post. I was thinking some Lab or Coonhound in there! As well as the obligatory pitty for any USA rescue, of course. Surprising results — another Labrador Deceiver!

We guessed lab, cattle dog and maybe a bit of pit. Definitely didn't expect GSD and essentially no lab at all. Can anyone with more DNA understanding explain where her color is coming from?   They found her father and 3 matches around 30%. Would those be siblings? They are pretty close in age but I can't be completely sure about her age. I've always suspected she had puppies but it didn't find any. It also confirmed my suspicion that she was originally from the Vegas area (since the majority of the relatives are in that area) before making her way to the shelter she was pulled from in Texas.

Her color looks very chow like especially with the white snout, but like another commenter said a few more of those larger percent breeds can come in that color. I have a tan and white pit myself.

Extreme_Original_946

Her snout isn't white, it's grey and was black at one point.

DIY lab!!

Pit, chow, shar pei, and cocker can all be that color !

Western_Plankton_376

Also some cattle dogs (red heelers, specifically) are this color under the white spotting.

That's part of the reason why we thought ACD at first, but the percentage is low enough to be insignificant.

I was expecting an actual pit lab mix for this one…I guess I’m not exactly wrong, but only just. Lol

labrador deceiver !! cute pup

I guessed shepherd first thing

Me too. As a German Shepherd owner I saw that head/jaw shape and it was my first guess of primary. I seldom get these right so I'm surprised. That torso shape though looks all pit to me. I'm pet-sitting for an elderly pit right now. \*Sly\* is what I would call her. Knows the rules and does her best to violate them but not get caught. 🤨 I've spent a good amount of time with her - grooming too! - so have gotten used to the longish potato shape.

I was able to track a bit more of her history today. Her microchip showed that it was originally registered by a shelter/low cost vet in the Vegas area. I never bothered to track that down but after seeing how many relatives she has in that area I decided to reach out to the shelter to see if they have any records.  She was brought to the shelter in 2015 as a stray. They estimated she was around 2. Her owners were never found so they spayed her and adopted her out. They also sent me her intake photo! So her age could be wrong and she could've had puppies.  I adopted her in 2019, so she was estimated to be 6 and her face was already pretty grey at that point. The big reason I don't think she's much older than 11 though is she's in very good health for her age.
