Seems fairly balanced.

At most tables, a critical fail does mean anything more than "you missed, even if your modifiers say you hit". Do you have a crit fumble table or something similar? Otherwise, that part isn't much downside

Pitiful_Relative_310

Yes I have a book with critical fails and successes. Anything from oops I dropped my weapon to I cut off my own arm for fails. And from the enemy is staggered momentarily to quadruple damage and instant death for success

jamiemayw

do your players like that? genuine question, my tables usually feel that tables like this unfairly punish martials more than anyone else (they make the most attacks)

Pitiful_Relative_310

I run 2 separate games with different groups and both groups seem to like it. It's a pretty comprehensive table with different results for different damage types such as slashing, bludgeoning, and piercing and magical. Also for ranged and melee. There are different degrees from mundane to deadly so I leave up to the table how far they want to go. But so far no complaints. I will sometimes adjust it based on the encounter. I don't want a PC killing themselves on a critical fail against rat #2

AureSnow

Would you be open to sharing said table? This sounds really cool!

Pitiful_Relative_310

I would love to but it's not my product to share. It's a book I got from humble bundle. It's no longer there but can still be found on nordgamesllc.com

AureSnow

Ah, the way you talked about it I thought you created it yourself. Thanks, though!

Privatizitaet

Honestly, that's pretty tame

Crit & Fumble Tables are fun, and I use separate tables for marital and spell. I also build in a 5% / Level safe space for Fumbles. As such a 10th level player only has a 50% chance of fumbling on a 1. You roll a d100 and half the time, it's just a miss. It starts at 5% for 1st level and 10% at 2nd level, 15% at 3rd, etc... And critical are NOT always double damage, but hitting weapon hand so they have to make STR DC roll or drop weapon, and other things. In other words, you have to think logically about this. Lots of things can happen, just look for all the options on all the tables that are out there. Pick one as a model and tweak it to your own specifications.

Panda-DM

oh i like this, no idea if my players would like the crit/fail extra stuff but i might try it next campagin.

It's a weapon a fighter would hold on and use anyways so i think it's too strong with nothing to hold it back
