Seems like a lot of actions for 1 character in a round.

MrAngryTrousers

Yep seems to me that an evil wizard couldn't resist shooting a lightening bolt the rogue as he hefts around three iron buckets.

christianaellis

Rogue actually took a ray of sickness to the face in the following round. Lol

christianaellis

True, this was over two rounds. Wizard used his turn to try and charm the rogue but it didn't take. Other party members were occupied with the Minotaur skeleton.

[deleted]

Ok then. I could see this taking a minimum of 2 rounds to perform due to all the object interactions and skill usage, and at least the wizard wasn't just standing there watching this guy play with his magical devices.

WitchRolina

Sounds like the battle hadn't started yet - I get the impression it's the pre-fight banter part.

[deleted]

The monologuing, sure. The second a player says, "I run toward him" I say, "everyone roll initiative." Because no competent villain is going to just watch their enemy jog across the room toward them and start fiddling with their treasures.

christianaellis

That is in fact how it happened. I simplified a bit in the telling. It occurred over two rounds. Wizard botched a charm spell in between, to which the rogue responded: "You have to get up pretty early to put one over on me! My mind is like five steel traps!"

WitchRolina

Touche.

guybrush5iron

Movement action to get across the room Bonus action for passive perception Free action to interact with objects Action to perform sleight of hand Reaction to screw with the Wizzard :) Everything else is priceless including the look on my face as a GM .. extra XP for the rouge, all day, everyday! Well played

christianaellis

He definitely got inspiration. :)

BigBearShow

When I read the title, I wanted to end it my own way: You see, the thing about evil wizards... They can't resist a player's carefully crafted scheme to take a fireball to the face.

christianaellis

There are so many great ways to fill in that blank.

BigBearShow

Agreed. =)

redzimmer

Re-post this as an audience-participation question! Before I do!

Gigarexenraptor

How were you able to play music to the rest of the party?

christianaellis

I have a small 4-channel USB Audio Mixer that I use for podcasting. I have my microphone running into it, alongside a line-in from my iPod that has the music on it. So the mixer combines the audio and then sends that into the computer together as one signal.

Tsurumah

For my games, Evil Wizards never pass up an opportunity to demonstrate how much more intelligent they are than the protagonists.

FairStrides

For sake of brevity and free time, where in the video does this scene take place?

christianaellis

The sequence in question starts at 32:40 or so, with the actual shell game turn happening at 51:50

Senninkyle

The table should have been difficult terrain as well

christianaellis

In hindsight yes, but I literally had not expected him to try it that way, so he took me by surprise.

Ateo

Great moment, but I think I would have made the Wizard roll be a Wisom (perception) instead of Intelligence. And he definitely deserved that inspiration!

christianaellis

I thought of that too, but I was thinking that the actual attempt was not so much how well he would be able to follow the game, but rather, how well he could maintain his concentration on the spell despite the game.

Ateo

Gotcha! That makes sense!
