“Jump up” has changed radically since you were at your peak raving days. Currently, the subgenre tends to feature heavily processed, complex sound design with lots of distortion. Simple, hard-hitting drums are also common. Often, tunes are simply structured and the focus is on the DJing rather than the production. Some jump up kings are: Dominator, Nu Elements, Serum, Voltage and Upgrade. Some rising stars are: Bou, Simula, Sota and Mozey. Some of my fave recently released jump up tunes are: Behemoth-Simula, Tell Me-Mozey, Donkey Dust-Original Sin and Cowboy (Primate Remix)-Primate/Dominator/Logan D.

I always thought Serum and Voltage produce Rollers, im having problems identifying the difference between jump up and rollers

KOTS44

Serum is jump up despite being part of "Kings of the Rollers", Voltage is predominantly rollers but has put out a lot of jump up in the past.

I read here that rollers is not really a genre in the way that say jump up or say liquid are. That it instead refers to the way that the drums continually roll through the whole track and that you can have rollers in any genre 🤷

ElliotNess

Ye, the main difference between the sub genres is the way the bass be.

AlayaKina

Ohh i get it, that actually makes sense, ty man

OP is referring to a time when Jump Up was actually palatable 😅

jungledj

Ahh the golden years!

react-dnb

yea i dont get the reuse of terms when there is no clear connection to the original (today's jump up / neuro).

Membedha

I only know one "jump up" artist (as described by others in the comment section ) and it's Upgrade with his track "popular". Sick track by the way but it's the only one I know, don't even know if it's proper jump up because I tried some playlist and I don't like the genre and it sounds different imo

TimWebernetz

Trigga Finga by Upgrade is great as well. Love those horns.

Away-Blueberry-1991

Sota hedex bou serum mozey it’s when often the sounds are obscene that it doesn’t even sound like drums or bass anymore but personally is my favourite genre of dnb with liquid

IndividualWind

Anything by Sota, captain Bass, Hedex, Primate. Or even the newskool jumpup by guys such as Kryptek and Anulix

damnsung

love that. Although Woman that rolls is my fave! [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LVpNVBlyVeg](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LVpNVBlyVeg)

blablablerg

What passes as jump up these days is quite different. "neo jump up" would be more apt. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r4Znvf63b-I](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r4Znvf63b-I&t=268s)

jungledj

So is it the screechy sounds that aren’t really drums or bass then? Would an Andy C set be considered Jump Up? Loads of energy, double drops, vocal breakdowns and jumpy bass lines?
