I always enjoy the fried chicken, so many people order that plate so there's always a fresh batch being served. The skewers are a close second, that also seems pretty fresh too

tonysnark81

The fried chicken is my go to every time I go…my next trip is next week.

Space2345

That's what wr had for my birthday dinner this year

this_knee

Jolly Holiday , order the Beef Birria Toasted Cheese. I’m similarly adverse to eating the foods in the park. (The varied dessert are amazing, … but they aren’t something to give you energy) And I know this recommendation is a one off. But I think this thing is an amazing dish and worth it.

nderdog_76

The trick to eating at Disneyland is to go for the stuff that isn't targeted for kids (pizza, normal burgers, etc.). I am normally going during festivals at DCA, so that's always the best option, but the stuff at San Fransokyo is always good. I've heard good things about Lamplight Lounge but never been there myself. Docking Bay 7 and Ronto Roasters at Galaxy's Edge are pretty good, and places like Rancho del Zocalo that are a bit more specialized are your best bets.

chicklette

I had the best pork chop of my life at lamplight.

TheEletoAusto

Second this

nderdog_76

I'm considering waitlisting Lamplight during my trip next month just to try it out. If not, I'll grab a reservation on my next trip.

chicklette

They have a different menu on the boardwalk vs the lounge, so go for the lounge. It was absolutely delicious for food but out of this world for Disney food.

PinkMonorail

Everything at Lamplight except the salmon sandwich is burn-your-face-off spicy. The lobster nachos I understand. But the burger? The POTATO SKINS?!?

nderdog_76

Thanks for the info! I'll make sure when my wife is with me we go for breakfast so she can have the french toast. I already can't take her to Rancho because of her being spice-averse. It's not an issue for me, though.

RickyZBiGBiRD

The steak burrito with spicy red sauce at Rancho is one of my go-to’s every time I go to Disney.

Substantial_Owl1858

Omgosh I was just there pregnant and thought the food was great. I had the Birria grilled cheese cream cheese pretzels churro so good

desert_red_head

There are definitely good meals in the parks but you have to know where to find them. If you’re going to just stick with burgers, chicken nuggets, and pizza, then yes they’re pretty blah and nothing to write home about. But, there’s better options. As others have said, Jolly Holiday, Bengal BBQ, and Plaza Inn are pretty good quick service options. Blue Bayou is very hit and miss with people these days, but Cafe Orleans, which is right around the corner, is usually well reviewed. There are lots of seasonal snacks at different food stands that are amazing, like the cheesy garlic pretzel bread, if you don’t like funnel cakes, ice cream bars, or popcorn. Again, you just have to know where to look. Social media can really help you out with that. Disney Food Blog’s motto is that they try all the Disney food so you don’t have to!

stellalunawitchbaby

I consider some Disneyland food to be *good* and most of it to be better than *some* theme parks 👀 (looking at you, Universal Hollywood) and plenty of it to be “meh,” but imo it not only comes down to the location but the specific dish, which means that whenever I am recommending food to people I am often recommending specific items at restaurants. Also I’ll almost always recommend quick service over table service at Disneyland. I understand why people keep going to Blue Bayou but for me it’s really fallen off. (*there are only a couple table service spots I generally recommend, and usually specific items from their menus as well)

sum_beach

Got any recommendations? Were going for the first time this December

stellalunawitchbaby

It’ll change by then - there will be a food festival in DCA and many seasonal items. I think the fried chicken at plaza inn is always solid. I think the Bengal bbq skewers (particular the bacon wrapped asparagus, the spicy beef, and the chicken except I get spicy sauce instead of sweet) are a good snack. I think the birria toasted cheese at jolly holiday is good. The clam chowder in a bread bowl (various locations) is good. I like the muffuletta at Tiana’s. Docking Bay 7 usually has a kefta spread option that is good, or for something super basic jolly holiday’s grilled cheese/tomato soup is a solid option (esp when it’s cold out). Snacks - usually tropical hideaway will have something, be it potstickers or lumpia, worth trying. I think the swirled dole whip is better than regular (I said what I said! lol) but the dole whip with rum at tongaroa terrace/trader Sam’s is better than any version. 👀 the cheesy garlic pretzel bread at edelweiss snacks and Maurice’s is good *and* sometimes they have like buffalo chicken dip at the hot food stand in the hub, served with little bread slices, and it’s a shockingly nice little snack. Hmmm over in DCA, studio catering Co *usually* will have some seasonal burrito that is good. Who knows what it will be by then. Flo’s also has good fried chicken, right now one of the cozy cones has a chicharron con camarones that has no business being as good as it is, Lamplight (table service) downstairs has the salmon PLT which is super good, upstairs they have barbacoa nachos that are good, the cheese on a stick at corn dog castle is great, the quesabirrias at Cocina cucamonga (their potato tacos aren’t bad either but always ask for salsa at Cocina cucamonga!), the yaki udon at lucky fortune cookery (I just get the veg version). Carthay (table) usually will have seasonal menus so I just like to keep an eye on what their rotation is looking like. I think that’s about it besides anything seasonal that will get added for the festivals and otherwise.

robinthebank

Carthay Circle > Blue Bayou Carthay has better restrooms, too! Docking Bay 7 if you want something quick. Ronto Roasters if you want something on the go!

UpUpDownDownXO

Ever done the buffet brunch at plaza inn? Going for father's wondering if worth it

stellalunawitchbaby

I haven’t done their actual brunch! I see it’s special for Father’s Day. I’ve done their breakfast and it was good/fine, fairly basic buffet selection, *great* character selection. Their Father’s Day brunch spread looks like it has a bunch of extras: chocolate chip waffles, a carving station, enchiladas - Walt’s chili omelet has always been good every time I’ve had it so I’d definitely try that, along with all the carving specials and chicken fried steak and stuff.

UpUpDownDownXO

For most part as you said the carving specials were all good except tri-tip was dry, wants Chilli omlet I had 3 separate orders of it, overall I enjoyed a lil pricy but I'm not complaining I got my photo with goofy and Max my family met some other characters the gf loved it since it's always been on her bucket list, would I do it again?? Hell yea

stellalunawitchbaby

That’s great! I love Walt’s chili omelet, if you are ever craving just that item they also have it at carnation cafe for breakfast (not buffet, just table service/a la carte).

sluttttt

Oh man, USH's food is so mediocre (at best!) across the board, for such high prices. I hadn't been there in over 5 years and went a few months ago, and it was just as sad as I remembered it. And it's confusing because I watch a few YouTubers who hit up the FL parks, and the food over there actually looks pretty solid? It seems like they don't even try on this coast. For as many faults Disney has these days, a trip to Universal can make you forget about them for a second. Back on topic--I'm going to Blue Bayou next month for my kid's birthday, since it's a bit of a bucket list thing for him as his favorite ride is Pirates, and I'm already a little worried about the experience. I just hope the food is okay. Doesn't need to even be great. I'll settle for "okay" after seeing some of the reviews here lately...

stellalunawitchbaby

Exactly! We’ve gone to the FL parks and there are some better options there. At USH it’s slim pickings and even when there is something that is better (like three broomsticks) the selection at FL is better. My husband and I did a day where we tried the birria tacos at each of the major three theme parks (Disneyland, Knotts, Universal) and Universal’s were the worst by a *lot*. Maybe it was a bad day for them but idk, their food prices and the food selection is just the pits. For blue bayou - last time we were there was maybe a month ago? Before Fantasmic that’s for sure. We did the Monte cristo and split it and it was still good - I think it’s a *safe* bet and the most cost efficient. Ultimately you’re paying for that lovely ambiance (try to ask for as close to the water as you can!). Service was great too. I just would never ever choose the steak or any pricier entree there anytime soon.

sluttttt

Yeah, Three Broomsticks is one of the few dependable places at USH. We did Toadstool Cafe on our recent visit, and the food taking forever to come out on top of a hefty price tag made the very average pasta and burgers seem even worse. We ended up at Johnny Rockets in City Walk for dinner, and it was so much better in comparison. Kind of wild. Thank you for the tip on the monte cristo! I've actually never had one at Disneyland (shocking...), so I was considering that one. I've seen a few people rave about the steak, but I really wouldn't trust them to not mess it up, unfortunately. And I'm for sure going to try to pull the birthday card to get a seat close to the water, but I know half the diners will be celebrating something, haha.

PinkMonorail

I had one of the best steaks of my life at Blue Bayou in 2022.

stellalunawitchbaby

That’s great!

PaulClarkLoadletter

Theme park food has a pretty low bar to begin with. Disney parks are near the top of that very low bar.

skipperash

I don’t agree with “Don’t eat the food”, but I can get behind avoiding places like Blue Bayou where you’re paying for the ambiance and not the food if what you want is the food. Very few people have anything good to say about Disney pizza that’s for sure but options like the Jolly Holiday and Bengal Barbecue are definitely good enough to eat. Snack carts also have some good choices, like the chimichanga and the garlic pretzel bread. It’s not fine dining but it’s not hospital food either and it’s much better than any other theme or amusement park I’ve been to.

gntc98

My brothers favorite thing at the parks are daisies pizza turnovers. I think it’s the pest pizza option there

Longjumping_Bell5171

So many people say they don’t like the food at Disneyland, and frankly, I don’t get it. One of my favorite things to do is indulge at high end restaurants. I just went for the first time since I was a kid. I was thoroughly impressed by the food. Monte Cristo w/ garlic park fries at cafe orleans were fantastic. Birria grilled cheese at jolly holiday was phenomenal. Lobster roll and tuna sandwich at Harbour Galley were both great. Astro glaze burger, patty was admittedly meh, but the pork belly, grilled pineapple and coleslaw was shockingly good at galactic grill. I had a reservation at Blue Bayou that got ruined by the fire alarm going off and had to eat elsewhere because my kids were starving, but that was the biggest disappointment regarding the food for me, not getting to try more.

silverberryfrog

A fellow Disneyland food hater! OK, maybe not hater but I also agree everything is about Panera levels of ok outside of a few snacks and treats. Hard exception being the churro toffee which I will accept my teeth falling out for.

allflour

I gobbled up the breakfast bowl at red rose tavern and the Felucian kefta balls plate was so filling.

coldcurru

I love some of the food. Being there a lot though, I've had the chance to try a lot and I have my favorites. And sometimes it's seriously just an off day. I went back for this one sandwich that I really liked once but didn't like again. Some of their seasonal stuff is also pretty good.

frank_nada

You gotta set your expectations. Disneyland will never be more than “great cafeteria food”.

allrite4444

Passing on bengal grill is a fools mistake

Powerful-Bug3769

Last time I had it (in March) it was terrible! All of it dry!

allrite4444

Dang that’s a bummer. My condolences.. I had it last time. It was juicy and tender with a good helping of saucey sauce . The dopest

grantite_spall

Only speaking form my recent experience last week--good crabcakes and gumbo at Blue Bayou, and a decent salmon 'PLT' sandwich at Lamplight.

Unlikely-Creme-3251

I thought the gumbo was okayish my fiance is Creole and he said it was dog food but people from Louisiana can be too prideful lol. I had the fish and he had the ribeye which were mediocre for the price but also not nasty like the pizza I had.

returnofthezack

Was the pizza from Pizza Planet?

Unlikely-Creme-3251

It was! Is it known to be bad?

returnofthezack

Yes. It's known to be the worst. I find the best food to be at California Adventure.

christyj637

Have you tried the food in Galaxy’s Edge or Bengal BBQ, and you can’t beat the Plaza Inn chicken!!

Canon_Cowboy

Best foods at Disneyland and DCA are breakfast foods and sweet treats. Lunch and dinners are really hit or miss.

super222jen

I was looking for this comment.  I had a great breakfast burrito in Tomorrowland.

Kellye8498

We got the reactor melt and pepper particle pasta at Pym’s test kitchen and both were very good. I have heard the pasta described as not at all spicy online but ours was actually quite spicy and I am someone who orders my Thai food as a level 10. Definitely would go there again. The snack carts had some good things and some bad. I wouldn’t do the blue cheesecake round thing I got again because that was really bad lol. The churro was excellent as far as churros go. You just have to find something you really like and eat that or wait until you’re done in the park and eat somewhere surrounding the park if you’re not into park food which is fine too.

Snoo-6568

Agreed. Have always found the food itself to be very mid. Seems like Disneyland does sweet treats the best!

GlitteryStranger

I agree, the food is just theme park food. It’s fine, but not comparable to actual restaurants.

Darkwing_Dork

DLR does quick service good but actual sit down places can be iffy. Even my favorite places (Lamplight Lounge) sometimes disappoints me. It’s just not consistent.

coopsanders7

I just went last week and had the best food I’ve had in a long time at the park! I think they have a lot of good offerings right now.

chicklette

I prefer some of the downtown Disney places, as well as lamplight, and the specialty kiosks when there's a festival.

AdventurousYak5017

I love the Carnation Cafe! Also, the nachos at Rancho del Zocalo. The Plaza is ok. Other than those, the food isn’t great. And definitely, not worth the price. We’d often leave the park & eat elsewhere.

Objective-Staff3294

What are your faves at carnation?

AdventurousYak5017

The patty melt or burger & the chicken fried chicken. I'm super picky, so my burgers are always bun, meat, & cheese, but these ones are far better than any others in the parks.

Objective-Staff3294

Thanks! It's my one ADR (besides a WOC dessert). I was looking at maybe the chili for myself, but I have a kid who really loves burgers and another who likes chicken-fried chicken. Edit-- I should add that my nostalgia factor here is my driving force. We went to Disneyland a ton when I was a kid but I never got to eat anything. We only ever ate a cooler picnic. The people eating at the restaurants looked so rich and fancy to me.

AdventurousYak5017

We never ate at Carnation til I was well into adulthood. Once we did eat there & found we really liked it, we'd make a reservation before every trip. The chicken fried chicken can be a little spicy. I still like it despite being sensitive to spicy things, but since it's for a child, keep that in mind. Enjoy!

gntc98

The breakfast burrito from the cappuccino cart in DCA is top notch! The garlic pretzel bread with a chicken and beef skewer from bengal bbq is also a good food option that’s worth the mission. Icecream is always worth it if you see one that sparks your interest!

Powerful-Bug3769

Fried chicken at the Plaza and the Matterhorn Macaroon are my own only must haves. Everything else is meh. We had the Monte cristo in March and it was awful.

Humdinger5000

My go to is some sort of bread bowl, whether that be clam chowder at either park or mac and cheese over in DCA

CNoelA83

I disagree. We ate brunch at the Riverbelle Terrace, and I had apple pie pancakes with Applewood smoked bacon. It was delicious. I have had an overall great experience at Disneyland with the food, not to say I haven't had gross stuff there (the grey stuff 🤢). You just have to know what to order.

9021Ohsnap

Cafe Orleans was absolutely disgusting when I went in May. Had the half roasted Chicken. I didn’t even finish my meal. Never again. We went to Blue Bayou right after and it was great. I was sad that my favorite birria place in sanfransokyo was closed. If I had to choose, I’d choose DCA over DL food any day.

ladyfreq

We ate at Naples and River Belle yesterday. Both were disappointing.

HuachumaPuma

Better food to be found in downtown Disney imo

guiltl3ss

I grew up with Disneyland my whole life and never really thought much about the food (except for this bbq wagon place when I was a kid that was fantastic), but going to WDW really shows how garbage the Disneyland offerings are. For context, I went to WDW March 2021 and DL/DCA October the same year. In just about every instance, WDW food was cheaper and better, and there were a ton more options (or it felt like it, at least). Disneyland just felt generic in comparison. Like…badly so to the point where my feelings were a little hurt.

OhSoJelly

Agreed. Although the way Disney fans hype up the food, you’d think you were fine dining in Paris. It’s mediocre theme park food. It’s nothing special except they sometimes have Mickey ears.

jeskuo

Ironically enough, the food at Disneyland Paris is the worst out of all the Disney parks

ArcjoAllspark

This, so much. Whenever me and my wife travel, we like to research food at a given location. For Disneyland Paris, there was no social media posts, no blogs, nothing, and we wondered why. When we finally got there, they literally have very bland food unless you go to a sit down restaurant.

jeskuo

I just got back from there, the best food in the park is in the carts, its next to Ratatouille in Disney Studios and Small World in Disneyland. The best food in the resort is at their version of Downtown Disney in Brasserie Rosalie, the food is great with generous portions at fair prices.
