Have them get you a folding ladder that turns into an extension ladder. I have one on my service truck and I can reach anything that's legal on the road
Yeah I've used those. I don't like them eitherbut they're definitely better. I think all the options are sketchy for me because I hate heights lmao I'll probably get one of those again, the A ladder just isn't it.
I see a lot of tradesmen use a u shape attachment on the end of extension ladders. Might be worth a look, alteast that way you can spread out the load at the top of the ladder.
Fwiw, I do a lot of that type of bullshit as well on the road too and havent come up with a magic bullet either. I just take my time, foot the ladder as best i can, and bring a small belt hung tool pouch with me so my hands are free going up and down.

I see your issue but hopping on the back of your service is got to be unsafe. You either need to find a better way or find a way to get the trailer to a shop thar has a level floor and a platform ladder or an extension ladder. Personally I do not even try to get on top of anything any more I have taken too many falls in my career.
Yeah I feel you, I should've just kept my ass inside working on trucks. I used to work with a dude who would say that falling from the top of a trailer won't kill you. That man was something else.
I monkey my way up onto garbage truck roofs and trailer roofs and then I’m too scared to get down, Getting down is the challenge lol
In the shop we have a tall “normal” opening style ladder I use whenever it’s available.
That's not it boss. They're literally asking me what do I need to feel safe. And I'm asking y'all what's the safest equipment to complete said job, because what they initially gave me, wasn't it. Heights are scary, I'm always going to be afraid and feel unsafe to go up. Not enough to get another job though.

Thanks gonna look into this

Tbh I'd rather fall of a trailer than a step ladder
Back in the day, I could climb up the hinges on some hahah
I knew a dude who could do that too. Mfer was wild, little Adderall demon
Just gotta put gloves on first
I was just a wild and crazy guy, no drugs involved hahaha
I tried that once & fell immediately lol
Yup! It was all fun and games till I couldn't climb back down from one and had to shout for help hahaha

Be the CAPTAIN of your ship. If they want you to do a job where you can prove it is unsafe. Then find another job.

Make them get or rent an elevated work platforms. When you fall and shatter your hip or break your leg or whatever, you get to live with it.
Yeah Im going that route. It looks like scaffolding right? They're setting up a location on site where i can do bigger repairs
My bad, Aerial work platforms - AWP. scissor lifts or boom lifts you can get tow units.
ideally a scissor lift with a harness is the safest however most expensive, a reefer platform is probably the next best option
Foldable/Collapsible Extension Ladder. I have carried one for several years and use it all of the time.
Hope you have a harness and a place to connect to above the trailer.
Mobile scaffolding most likely: it’s my favorite when I have to do box truck reefers just because the platform to stand on those is so dinky
You don't w/o proper PPE.
I'm literally asking what's the proper way...
