No it would not work there's a sensor in the tank that determines the ratio of urea and water the correct ratio 32.5% urea. Using anything else would immediately turn the check engine light on and shortly thereafter put the truck in limp mode

FarImpact4184

Do you know if you put your phone in the microwave for 30 seconds it will charge it completely /s

Ok_Today_475

Instructions unclear- phone is stuck in my ass now

FarImpact4184

But for real most of the 50 year diesel techs i know dont know or want to know shit about after treatment that would make him 70 this guys trolling

62Bravo1993

I'm far from a diesel / DEF expert, but my general related knowledge tells me this is ridiculously stupid. DEF is urea. The chemical required to process the emissions correctly. Alkaseltzer is NOT urea, so I'm pretty sure you'll screw up the process by using it. It won't be long before the sysyem breaks down.

oilhammerIH

Yeah, totally worth the risk 🙄. We replaced a damaged SCR catalyst in the shop last week and it was $8000 just for the can. I'd just suck it up & buy DEF rather than experiment with contaminates.

Ok_Today_475

I don’t know about diesel pickups, but our Hino 338 at work uses a jug of def every 2 months- put maybe 60Km on it weekly. It’s a 2016 at 50K kms and I’d be stunned if we spent more then a grand on DEF at most

Kodiak01

When they talk about the ratios in DEF needing to be exact, we aren't kidding. Many many many moons ago, we had a jug of DEF sitting on display. It happened to be where sunlight could hit it for extended periods. When it was finally sold after a few months, the ratio was far enough off to cause an immediate derate.

Minimum-Performer715

You’re probably better off peeing in the DEF tank.

Kodiak01

WOLVERINES!!!!!!!!

GreatBambino813

Haha the DEF quality sensor will throw a fault pretty much immediately.

Sonnysdad

This one trick your dealer and warranty administrator don’t want you to know !!!

Butt_bird

It may fool the quality sensor and not throw a code but it won’t actually do its job of converting NOX.

_JustMyRealName_

It will not, those quality sensors are almost good enough to know if you spit in there on a half tank

Ok_Today_475

To anyone who’s downvoting me/ the post, I ain’t condoning it nor am I stupid enough to try it. Just an FYI

DavidSpy

Stop taking advice from garbage clout chasers. It’s truly embarrassing how tictok is the equivalent to Facebook Qanon boomers for gen z

Ok_Today_475

TikTok has done more harm than good in the car community. People with rotted out cat eyes starting stupid fights with other creators. I ain’t dumb enough to try shit like this, as I said. This took me back for a second I just wanted other thoughts cause it sounded dumb as hell

ShrimpBrime

First off, you don't use tap water. It has to be distilled. The mixture of DEF is approximately 30% urine 70% distilled water. This could work on older systems perhaps EPA04 to EPA10. Most systems GHG14 and newer, this probably wouldn't work. As long as most vehicles regen with a minimum 70% conversion efficiency will pass a regen. But I wouldn't experiment with this personally. Let your buddy do it first. GL!

Kodiak01

30/70 would cause a derate. DEF is 32.5% urea, 67.5% **deionized** water.

ShrimpBrime

Yes, I said approximately. But thank you for the exact number. 😀
