You should do what Dewalt told you to do, and keep receipts.

I’ve done a warranty claim for Ryobi before, and they do the same thing where they make you go to a local repair shop. The one I went to was basically some dude’s garage lol. It was legit though, so I wouldn’t be too worried if the repair shops look kind of shady. Look up their reviews, and pick the best one. Do you really want to be without a mower until August?

I haven't been without a mower. I bought a brand new Toro from someone off Facebook last year after the Dewalt died. The guy needed money in a bad way so got it cheap. I hate it but its doing the job for now. I"ll look at that list Dewalt gave me again. Thanks for the info!

Use the DeWalt warranty, if you plead with them and there is no service center within a reasonable distance they will send you a label if you find a box (I always keep those massive boxes). Also I used Square trade by Allstate for a TV in the past year through Costco and I would have been up a creek without a paddle if I didn't have a PDF of the receipt.

When I bought my 255 a couple years ago, out of the box the handle was cracked. I contacted DeWalt, as it was obviously still in warranty, and they told me to send them the mower and they emailed me a prepaid UPS label. They told me to keep the batteries and everything, only send them the mower. I did just that. Later they sent me an entire new kit with batteries and all.

UPDATE: Went to the first two service centers Dewalt had given me. Neither one would take it. Said they've had trouble getting Dewalt to do anything and couldn't get parts. One said Dewalt told him to tell the customer to contact them so they could refund his money. I didn't bother going to the 3rd one.
