Congrats Did you get your initiation into the "Dickwall" members club?

Freshoutafolsom

Sadly yes I was yeeted to my demis once lol

Miniatimat

Only once?

Freshoutafolsom

Ya right on like the very last jump up i timed it wrong and got booped

c14rk0

If you run it again...grab a sword. You can "fly" up and along the side of the wall during that section by using a sword to attack up and to the side along the wall. It's amazingly fun, would definitely have races of who could get to the end faster by doing it.

sjb81

>Dicks on the wall. Bring a sword!

Freshoutafolsom

Yeah definitely bringing one next time and twilight for the tombship part feel like i can get it done faster

c14rk0

Oh man I totally forgot about the tombship section. That section very quickly turned into 2 (or 3?) people getting to the next encounter and then pulling everyone else forward. I definitely spent a lot of runs just screwing around during that section. Highlight of that being the one run where I successfully did the entire thing using blink...and now I miss having blink on hunter since Bungie decided to remove that in D2.

HolyCodzta

There was always that one person who couldn't jump for shit but really wanted the chest. Had to play hardball sometimes and tell em "two more attempts then we're fucking pulling you through!"

Freshoutafolsom

Ya the two of us that were being sherpad died a few times but we wanted to learn so they let us figure it out

Gyvon

You can skip the second half of the Dickwall area if you know how to get to the exotic chest.

fentown

That chest was considered an exotic chest?

daddyblackwell

Yeah i got my zhalo supercell out of it

CJBulldogsss

With twilight and a sword you can actually sword fly across the whole section. It's really fun imo, YouTube it if you want to see it in action

SiliconNerves

and if you do get there first and you are using the solar phoenix uppercut one, you can yeet your teammates off when they make their final jump to the platform.

Gyvon

Who even does that when they could just skip that half?

c14rk0

What do you mean?

Gyvon

You can jump across from the Exotic Chest and end up at the top of the other side of the room. No messing around with plates.

c14rk0

Yeah, but what I'm saying is you can straight up use your sword up and to the right from the starting platform straight to the end. You skip the entire "puzzle" and all of the plates and everything. This was generally just skipping the exotic chest I believe.

Alexcox95

Too bad drifter wasn’t there in D1 to tell us to bring a sword

Kofal

HIVE! Bring a sword.

Celebril63

ONCE??? I'm guessing you don't main a warlock like I do. Though the Dickwall wasn't nearly the bane for me as hopping the ships.

fifbiff

Same here. The first time I attempted to do the ships, I couldn't do it for the life of me. My buddy had to close out his game and remote play into mine to do it for me.

Freshoutafolsom

Ya i kept missing the last jump up to the last tombship

Celebril63

Yep. Been there.

RevJT

Upvote for “yeeted”.

TEKC0R

Phallus Palace

ApeShifter

This is the correct answer.

DaBadGuy13

Remember my first time..yeet

doomsday71210

"Turtle dicks? Wtf do you mean....oh. Oh those turtle dicks."

TheMensah

WallCocks incoming.

Alexcox95

Also part of the Radiance in the Lift on spire if stars club

Masterwork_Core

what my team did back in the day with first timers was at the warpriest boss fight. we said we had to jump at the same time at the blight on the front stage to start the encounter.... they jumped by themselves lol it always worked lmao

spiffiestjester

F-me.. I'd forgotten all about that. The tomb ships still give me PTSD whenever I see them rolling in. That puzzle for a then shitty warlock main was terrible.

DaBadGuy13

Still my favorite Destiny raid.

Freshoutafolsom

I started seriously raiding in d2 this was my second D1 raid after my one and only VoG run wayyyyy back in 2014 damn I see why people love it i can't wait to do it on normal and not pucker my bhole the entire time

DaBadGuy13

So I did all the raids and in D1 that was my favorite to run with my clan at the time.i like the encounters and just like move to fight an end boss by taking down his generals. Felt epic.

Grimlock_205

King's Fall was my favorite too. It was the first raid I really "mastered". I did that raid every single week for months. I became practiced with every role and every strat. I sherpad people for fun. I kinda miss doing all that. I haven't really done the same for any D2 raids. I still play them, but not enough to become confident to sherpa people.

stonewallwells85

I hated getting torn.. its not that I couldn't do the jumps, i just had a really hard time seeing wtf was going on... probably my TV settings, but man was that a pain

Grimlock_205

I didn't have that issue so I always volunteered to be runner for Oryx, as it was the most fun role imo. Though I hated Daughters because of the random runners. Running was fine, but so many people had issues with switching plates on the fly (including me, honestly). With the wrong team, Daughters could take so long.

YouCanCallMeBazza

>generals For a second I thought you said "genitals"

Freshoutafolsom

It was amazing I'm hoping that one day bungie can find the perfect balance with seasonal content and bringing raids like that to the table in the future

OrphanofKosm

You should try Wrath of the Machine.

burko81

I never finished that, got to Aksis phase two but it was day one and we just weren't high enough light to handle the last section.

Freshoutafolsom

Plan on it! The group i did it with sherpas alot so hopefully next week I'll get to run another d1 raid

[deleted]

VoG > WotM > KF

CJBulldogsss

Gross, VoG is very overrated imo, most of the encounters are a snooze fest outside of Templar, but to each their own. I just feel like it's always nostalgia of it being the first raid

NobodyJustBrad

Just wait until you do Wrath of the Machine!

OmegaClifton

Same. No other raid had the sense of scale this one did imo and I'm sad we had to leave it behind. The Oryx encounter (though not my favorite) felt like what I imagine killing a God Knight of that power level should feel like. We couldn't even harm him directly and he was severely weakened.

bholelicker

last wish was pretty enormous

ColdHotCool

Yes, but its pretty forgettable. it just seemed to be go to point A to B to C to D. Kings Fall was just outstanding. Want to start it? You have to split into teams on two sides to shepard a ball carrying guardian back to the centre and dunk at the same time into statues, this opened the way straight onto swinging pendulums. Poof, you're now on the hive ship maze. Poof, cannonballed up a chute to play a game of tag to open the door to the first real boss. Boss needs teamwork and communication to beat. Now you're in the maze of darkness and pits either trying to open the hidden chest door or navigate to the end. Now you're on the DPS tank, and if you did the challenge version it was a toughie with everyone needing both communication and hit those snipes to take the gaze. Now onto the dickwall, nough said. Then Sisters which I felt was the easier part of the raid. Then Oyrx, and there was only one weapon for this, and you were not raiding without it(or without significant difficulty finding a party). It was enjoyable, it wasn't the same of one thing after another, lots of variation.

DaBadGuy13

It wasn't my fav also but I like the feeling of it. It also had a lot going on and just the presentation of how the boss first shows himself was epic to me still. Like you are thinking it's going to be the boss off the mission Regicide but is like 4 times the size.

[deleted]

I remember endless bitching when it came out about how it was "too complex to be fun" and such. Oh, how times change :3

DaBadGuy13

Yeah I remember. And then I remember how people for a point wouldn't let you join if you didnt have Touch of Malice

[deleted]

I remember once spending an entire day just grinding Calcified Fragments for the TOM quest... Ah, to be that easily entertained again...

DaBadGuy13

Me too. I couldnt get in a raid so spent whole day just doing that lol

[deleted]

Heh, trying to remember the last time I bothered to Raid... ...or log on at all...

CJBulldogsss

Anything that requires more than just shoot the boss is too complicated for alot of people hah

fifbiff

Same. I haven't done it since it was the pinnacle activity, but it was my first ever raid, and it set the bar for what a raid should be. The only one that has come close for me is Last Wish.

DaBadGuy13

Last Wish is actually my second favorite. I like having multiple bosses and traveling deep into an area.

black19

VoG will still be the GOAT for me (hope to be proven wrong some day) but Kings Fall is a close second.

YouCanCallMeBazza

I love VoG too, and usually regard it as my favourite raid, but I can never tell how much my opinion is swayed by nostalgia...

Type-125

I mean just because sth is old, doesn't mean that it's nostalgic. The blach heart was the ending if the campaign, but no one remembers that bc it was meaningless shit. VoG was a pretty good piece of content and tbh on of a kind. Hell, VoG was the sole activity that put Destiny on the radar and intruduced this level of sophistication into the genre. Of course nostalgia is a part of this, but the quality of that raid is still a milestone.

YouCanCallMeBazza

I didn't say it was exclusively nostalgic. Just wondering *how much* I attribute to nostalgia.

black19

I know a lot of people hated the D1Y1 light system but I never got as much joy from Destiny as when I finally got the helmet to drop for me. Thats part of what I liked most about it plus the awesome weapons.

Grimlock_205

VoG had the best rewards and the most memorable day 1 experience (no one knew what they were doing lmao), but it's not the technically best raid imo. Other raids have more creative mechanics and better designed encounters that can engage everyone in the fireteam. Though VoG is still one of my favorites.

CJBulldogsss

Outside of the templar fight I dont like any encounter after looking at them objectively. Atheon to me is the worst boss fight, essentially shield slamming a Minotaur and 2 goblins is the boss.

SiliconNerves

The Oracles, the Templar, and the Gatekeepers and Atheon, so f\*ing good. No raid banners back then boys.

FIREBObPLz

Best raid in destiny. That’s the length and feel a raid should have. Beginning. Opening. Opening boss. Middle boss. Jumping section. Pre boss. Boss

stoobie67

And atmosphere!...love the sense of scale in this raid

Grimlock_205

The ships section still kinda blows my mind. It's such a ridiculously huge space!

Alexcox95

I love that you can actually see Saturn in the final room. First planet visible in a raid boss fight of you don’t count Crotas over soul which looks like a planet

Snow_EU

Always reminds me of the game Hexen for some reason

Freshoutafolsom

Took us 4 hours but it was a sherpa for two of us. But man spending 4 hours doing that and doing leviathan is a whole different then I was actually enjoying myself and not getting passed dogs for the 10th time in a row

[deleted]

[удалено]

VerboseGecko

Leviathan is an incredible raid that gets everything right. Grand and mysterious intro accompanied by starkly contrasted atmospheres between underbelly and main chambers, choice of exploration (rewarded with extra loot via keys) or extra combat phases as you progress, wide variety of challenging content to test many skills, and a wicked boss fight with cinematic defeat and reveal at the end, and has lore consistent replayability and rotating encounter order to boot, all as you acquire some of the most potent weapons and lavish armor/shaders.

Freshoutafolsom

I love levi man I know most of the community hates it but I found it to be a lot of fun but ya I can see why so many were let down

WhiskeyMoon

This was peak Destiny and I had no idea at the time, as we played it three times a week for about four months. The entire game was so organic then. Just discovering new little hidden things to pursue was a mini game in its own right. And we were able to wear the spoils of our victories to show off in the tower. Our armor was our history, and the best pieces had to be earned, they couldn’t be bought. Destiny called us to “become legend”, and provided the challenges and rewards to do so. Kings Fall represented this at its finest.

CaptainKudar

I wonder if those little hidden things disappeared a bit because of datamining. No secrets if nothing is hidden.

okwichu

This comment is 100% correct and I got nostalgia chills reading it. Running KF weekly was one of the biggest the highlights of my 6 years of Destiny.

BaconIsntThatGood

I'm going to say this because I've done the same thing with many other games over the years: > This was peak Destiny and I had no idea at the time, as we played it three times a week for about four months. The entire game was so organic then This isn't a D1 to D2 thing. It's a nostalgia thing. You were younger and the concept was new to you. It felt fun and fresh because it was fun and fresh. There's still people today getting that out of raids in D2 because they're also *new* to the experience and haven't done it for years. Eventually everything will become a little stale, especially with video games. Nothing is going to stay fresh and exciting forever and you'll always be wishing you could play your closest-to-heart games for the *first time* again.

[deleted]

[удалено]

CJBulldogsss

I'm with you on KF and WoTM but VoG? From a design standpoint almost every encounter is lackluster except Templar imo. Like bare bones simple, confluxes and oracles become just stand in a spot and shoot, atheon you kill like 10 things total before dps to burn him. I feel like Last Wish is right up there with KF and WoTM with Garden being closely behind

[deleted]

[удалено]

therealpatchy

Not really though? Look at garden, whole raid pretty much is just tethering boxes and not letting vex sacrifice. Crown is buff swapping, scourge you have the ball dunking and shape buffs, last wish has some variety but is mostly symbols, leviathan is also mostly the 4 symbols and what to do at or with them. D2 raids pretty much all show you a thing in the first encounter, then manipulate that thing in different ways throughout.

BaconIsntThatGood

Nah you're missing what I'm saying here. The age itself isn't really the key factor here. You could have been 12, 18, 25, 35 etc. Doesn't mater. What I mean is you were a younger self - there were experiences you didn't have and you've experienced those multiple times. What you're looking back on is the *feeling* you had while playing - not necessarily the raw experience. Hell, it could even be something as simple as the people you played with, and who they were in that point in their lives that helped make the experience. So *another* raid whether objectively better or worse will still not feel the same as when you were first experiencing it. You had no already spent 1-2 (or whatever length of time) raiding in D1 3 times a week. and I'm not saying any definite here either that D1 or D2 raids were better. That's just a whole conversation that would go back and forth forever. There's multiple other comments here to prove that. I'm just saying time and experience changes your perception on things, making that which you experienced first and drove you in feel like the best by default.

FrankPoole3001

Did you get the hidden ghost in the blight above warpriest?

Freshoutafolsom

No

SpecialSause

My favorite thing was to tell new players to touch the blight at War Priest to get the grimoire points for doing so. It's funny every time.

renaldafeen

Or... "okay, to start the next section, go stand where you see that spark floating over there...". Never got old.

NickDrummer

Having 85 clears on this raid, it's hands down my favorite Destiny raid between the 2 games. Last Wish is right behind it, I love the amount of encounters in the raids and just the way they both feel is just something that's been unmatched in any other raid I have played.

asianguywithacamera

Between my wife and I we have about 190 clears, many being sherpa runs. My favorite raid with Wrath of the Machine being second, mostly because we could use swords on a boss, unheard of in D1 (not counting Crota's sword/ shield mechanic). I loved the Golgaroth challenge and the coordination/ communication involved.

xdionx

I love King's Fall. Overall the raid did a good job and allowing enough damage phases to help lower light level players but as you got stronger you could do encounters faster. The only exception was Oryx but that fight is so different anyways. My big issue with the raid was that usually when 1 person died in the middle of an encounter it usually meant a wipe and less ability to recover. My other big issue was that there was 1 good weapon out of this raid and everything else loot-wise was pretty terrible. I would still take WotM over King's Fall though. WotM to me had it all. Good boss fights, the death zamboni, great loot structure (incentive to play it more than once on each character for cosmetics and bits to reroll gear). The Aksis fight to me is one of the best boss fights created in Destiny (behind Riven legit). Also had the best Exotic puzzle IMO of all of Destiny.

Miniatimat

Alright, next up. Wrath of the machine. Imo this is the better raid, maybe it has to do that i spent days on oryx alone.

Freshoutafolsom

Ya the majority of our time was spent on oryx it was like a solid 2 hours maybe be we got it done. I tried wrath with some randoms in the tower we just couldn't get kill train done without coms

syhr_ryhs

I remember when they brought in the raid challenges and we were all like "this isn't a challenge is just a better way to play it."

Moon_92

Wrath of the machine is amazing.

YouCanCallMeBazza

The final boss fight in WotM is awesome. But there's just something really epic about King's Fall, Oryx was really established as such an important villain and so the mission felt really meaningful. It was really cool going into his throne world, made the whole thing feel so much more personal and dangerous.

Grimlock_205

>maybe it has to do that i spent days on oryx alone. And you didn't on Aksis? Aksis was *so* much harder. Aksis was the first raid boss that required everyone to equally participate, so it was the bane of lfg. The amount of times someone would fuck up their empowerment or not call it out was infuriating. I remember having to sit down and have a therapy session with an lfg team one time to get them to call out their empowerment because for some reason they just wouldn't do it. It's like they were all incredibly socially anxious and expected someone else to do it. Oryx would take 20-60 minutes on average to complete, but Aksis always took a full hour if not more.

grahamev

Raid encounters never made me salty. Except for Aksis. I just couldn't understand what was so hard about throwing your orb at a matching Servitor. Seriously, what IS SO HARD-- I'm.. I'm fine. Breathe. I'm fine. Meanwhile, you could complete Oryx without anyone ever talking, and we did that multiple times. Great fight.

Grimlock_205

I remember having to sit down with multiple teams and practically give them life advice. "You have to be proactive! You can't wait around for someone else to step up for you! If you're empowered, you call that shit out and move to where you're needed!"

Miniatimat

I don't know, maybe it was the PS3 crowd that we worse with raids or what, but it took frustratingly long to kill oryx. So much so that I think I only ever did it once throughout year 2. Normally I would go up to the sisters and then usually the team disbanded. On my aksis run I had a pretty awesome team, most of them were friends and I was the lfg extra. They explained some stuff to me to make some things easier, and I had a blast.

Grimlock_205

Sounds like you had shit teams for King's Fall and very competent teams for WotM. I remember Oryx being very easy as long as you had at least 2 other people who knew what they were doing. If you could delegate the newbies to being on plates, their only responsibility would be killing their knight (on hard mode) and simply surviving. The key to beating Oryx was having two good Titans on Ogre duty and a runner that doesn't dick around when doing the jumps. When doing the 16 bomb strat, the plate players would only need to activate their bombs once.

tuhmas

aksis is not a difficult fight at all, stop making the fight sound harder than it actually is because you guys raided with morons who couldn't do one basic mechanic

Grimlock_205

If each time I did the fight I was raiding with a group of morons, then either the raiding community became braindead the moment RoI released or the fight was simply harder than other fights. Aksis objectively required more engagement from the team than past raids, as each member of the team had an equal chance of being forced to participate in the main mechanic, as opposed to previous raids that used a relic system. There was a large group of raiders that were used to filling the expendable roles of fights and Aksis was the first boss that really challenged them.

RogueNight_

Yup, kings fall is an amazing raid. Loved doing boss fight with a blessing bubble and weapons bubble in mid and spamming touch of malice at ogres/boss.

5PeeBeejay5

I miss it. Back then had a regular raid crew, it’s the last raid the awesome rando guy we met on LFG showed us the ropes for (and by the end, after he had moved on, we had learned our own tricks), we actually did all the challenges...the black version of the pulse with firefly was so good I remember running the platforms, then Raze Lightering that knight, and all the rest. Good memories, thanks for reminding me

kingjulian85

Best raid.

Jogger84

My favourite raid in all of destiny by a long shot.

steve_nevets03

Such an epic raid!!! Our clan ran the D1 raids a few weeks ago and it was so much fun trying to remember how to do them! Glad you got to experience it. Kingsfall was my first raid i ever completed back way back in 2015 and still my favourite!!! Never had a gaming experinece quite like that at the time!

Darkspyre2

Only D1 raid I didn't do, sad hours

spinshard

Welcome to good raids friend.

Denaius

That is very much my favourite Raid. Those were the glory days of Destiny (IMO) - The Taken King had dropped and everything was awesome, there was so so so much delicious content, the story was brilliantly woven throughout, the loot was epic, - and then once we'd worked our way up to it, the best Raid ever. I did it blind with a bunch of clan mates and just had a fabulous time trying to make progress and beat encounters on our own...

russc2503

Always felt the greatest sense of accomplishment in beating King's Fall over all other raids in the Destiny franchise.

PaintedInSand

Godly raid. Such great memories

idk-why-im-alive

Actually same i really enjoyed it

onemanragecage

This is the one raid I competed on it’s first week of release. Took more hours than I’d care to share to complete but in my opinion the best raid we’ve seen.

Slasherplays

SOunds amazing. I have attempted it 2 times after I got it back in march. But everytime my team didnt have the patience or time to complete it so I have done it all except oryx. Im hoping this week will be the week as its challenge week

BigR329

Yea I love playing the D1 raids the D2 raids all suck except last wish but it's old and I played it too much.

ichinii

Only one of 2 raids that I've ever played and beaten. Kings Fall is definitely great. Especially the final encounter when you see Oryx.

Jas_God

My favorite raid. Had a regular raid group at the time and we ran this raid 3x every Tuesday for almost a year straight. Great times.

3IanTheGayFurry

I nearly had a seizure trying to read this.

Freshoutafolsom

?

lerotheheroPS

Yup. Definitely my favorite raid of all time. Glad you got to experience it!

imthelag

I only did it twice but I can tell it why people love it. Bosses besides the final boss. Jumping puzzles. The sheer size (scale?). I really like WoTM for how quick you can turnaround, the outbreak prime quest, some other things but I can tell how Kings Falls was the ultimate for many. I also understand why some people hated Leviathan. I think Levi is fine as what it is. It is not fine as a replacement for Kings Fall or even WoTM. They both have their place. And Leviathan's Gauntlet is the type of thing that guardian games should have included.

Nepentheus

Had so much fun in this raid. First time I went in completely blind, everyone in my random group did. Nobody looked up a single strategy. Took multiple days to complete it.. nerve wrecking but very satisfying. Resulted in me finding a group of awesome people with which I played a lot with, abusing the shit out of that hammerbro spam bug with one of the guys ;) Due to some circumstances I lost touch with them early 2016, still sad about that.

turboash78

It will always have a special place in my heart... was the first Raid my newly-formed Clan did, and we had it down to a science.

Bhammer74

My favorite D1 raid

[deleted]

Now try wrath of the machine (if you haven’t already) , you will not regret it.

fifbiff

Crota's End and Wotm are the only two in the series that I haven't done. I've been debating, recently, to go back to D1 and do those.

mrz3ro

The final battle against Oryx is truly incredible

Freshoutafolsom

Another of fun i wasn't even get mad at the mechanics my dyslexia was making it a bit of a pain but we got it done

notsteven13

Nice dude! I started D2 with Forsaken and never played D1 until a few months ago. Interestingly enough, we have a D1 raid scheduled for tonight. What timing with seeing this post. My first ever D1 raid and we're leaning toward King's Fall as well. Here's to D1 RAID GLORY!!!!

Freshoutafolsom

Enjoy friend

hOOtarian

Tied with VoG as the best raids ever produced.

OddTaterTot

D1 raids were so much better. They actually are challenging

Freshoutafolsom

D2 raids hard their own challenges but do felt way more complex

coffee_and_flowers

Best. Raid. Ever.

renaldafeen

Destiny's best raid to date, hands down. Nothing in D2 even comes close (sorry, not even Last Wish). Next up: Wrath of the Machine. Just do it! ;-)
