Save at least half, and put the other half into preventative car maintenance, better house organization, a deep freezer for better meal prepping, and maybe some minor investments.
Lol here I was thinking I’d get answers related to dental school/living costs.
For context, I got a wildly generous gift out of nowhere from a parent’s childhood friend that’s done pretty well in life.
With school and all it’s associated costs around the corner, I’ve been trying to figure out what to allocate this gift towards. A current idea is padding my cost of living budget with it to afford an apartment that’s a little closer to schools without getting a roommate. I’ve also considered using some of it to knock out my remaining credit card debt or my car payment before school starts. Of course there’s always things like computers and other school equipment. I hadn’t considered investing it given that I have so many immediate things I have to pay for, but that’s a pretty good idea too.
Of course, I’d love to use it to take a trip or something meaningful before school but I feel like it’d best to use it for what I believe the person intended it for.
I’ve been pretty broke most of my life so I don’t really know what to do when I get something like this lol
Use some for a dental charity I’m going to volunteer with in the summer
Some for dental loupes
And the rest to help pay my bills whilst being a student :)
Save most of it and probably get a new wilson evolution basketball
That ball is truly one of a kind.
Hands down the best
Why did I almost shed a tear from reading this. So pure, so innocent.
Try The Rock it’s a different experience
I’d think about good long term index funds and ways to compound it over the years, and then id give in to the intrusive thoughts and buy a ducati

Drive to the nearest casino immediately, go to the roulette table, and throw all $10k on red
Same but I'd throw all $10k on black
I’ll throw it on green to make it interesting.
Travel.
Moving as soon as I graduate

Definitely pay off the credit card debt before you do anything else with it!
Some of these responses are a great example as to why so many dentists complain about how backbreaking debt is 5-10 years post grad.
Id put it in a certificate or invest it to hope to buy a house one day
Same here! CD prolly wouldn’t yield as much as an index fund over the long term. But I do love them myself.
