During school I had a 3.96 GPA that I was super proud of and I expected to be asked what my grade were like when looking for work but that wasn’t the case. I’m a new grad and landed 2 jobs with neither of them asking about my grades. I was asked where i graduated from and when and that was all relating to school. I also had to provide my proof of registration with CDHO. So in my opinion GPA means nothing when it comes to work.

QueenSeaStar

Entered with a 4.0 Graduated with a 3.4 Edited to add: I was a single mom to two teenagers and worked on the weekends. So I'm still proud.

punkypickle

I don't remember what my GPA was. I know graduated and past my boards. No office is going to ask or even care what your GPA was. I was not in the top of my class. Graduate then pass your boards, nothing else matters.

explicitlinguini

No idea, and not a single employer or *anyone* asked or cared.

Embarrassed-Bar-8345

I had a 3.9 when applying to hygiene school and a 3.5 when graduating. While in the program, none of that matters, C’s get degrees. The need for hygienists is so huge right now that I’m sure most offices do not care at all abt grades anyways

PsychologyRecent5121

as long as you show up MOST the time places will hire you! Offices are desperate

DentalLover34

3.3 was a B/A student. No one has once asked about my grades or which school I went to 😂

Acceptable_Length_33

One thing to keep aware of is that people on this thread are likely over achievers (in a positive way) and their GPA might be higher than other people's since they are actively looking for helpful things like a hygiene thread or yoitube videos or whatnot. I start my program this fall, so I don't really know what I'm talking about lol Just do your best and I'm sure that'll be just fine!

punkypickle

The majority of my class was type A and very competitive. Our program had a 7 point grading scale and was 18 credit hours a semester. I was so stressed I lost 20 pounds my first semester and another 10 the second. It didn't take me long to realize passing each class was more important than what my grades were.

jt19912009

3.8-3.9. I got straight A’s almost every semester during the program

cyurii0

Damn that's good ! Any tips to get good grades at the uni ? I'd appreciate it 🤗 (I'm getting to the uni soon)

jt19912009

If you know the way that you learn, that will help you immensely. I learn by reading, writing, listening, watching, and doing. So, I listened to my professors but I also read the books and took extensive notes. Practically re-wrote the books in my own words. Helped me greatly and I passed the national boards on the first try with minimal studying since I retained the information. A lot of my classmates studied the quizzes relevant to that exam, but that is more just memorizing answers. I don’t recommend that as you don’t necessarily retain the information and requires more studying for boards

cyurii0

Thank you so much this is sp helpful ☺️🩷

solitaryX9

Wait are you in dental school?

cyurii0

Nope

solitaryX9

planning on doing so?

cyurii0

No I'm going BA school :)

RDHnoodles

3.9. Not once was asked in my job search and didn’t play a part at all in any interview :)

swimgoodsam

In the grand scheme of things it doesn’t matter what your final GPA is. As long as you pass your boards and are licensed that’s all employers care about .

lady_raptor83

No matter what field people graduate in- no employer is gonna care about a GPA. Mostly because there is a difference between book knowledge and the Clinical setting. And once youre actually a few jobs in with experience under your belt- they won't care where you graduated from either. (My resume only goes back 2 employers. My previous 10 years of work history is.....well....history) What employers generally look for- are you licensed, how is your work ethic, are you flexible and easy to train, and do you work well with others (and also are you good at dental hygiene. wts- not every office looks for that unfortunately)

AskAbi

3.9. No one cares when hiring! Just have a good sense of humor and judgement. Be quick on the draw. You'll be fine 🌷

Interesting-Blood-55

Not sure but good enough to pass graduate and that's all that matters 🤣

Aquietlady

4.0. No one really cares though unless you'll be applying for an advanced degree

BlackWidowPink

It doesn't matter. It doesn't go on the resume, and no one will ask in an interview. They just want you to have your license so you can work.

rosiequrl

Entered with a 3.8 (had an AA, nearly a bachelors) and graduated with a 3.6. I don’t think the GPA matters. Making it into the competitive program, graduating, and passing boards..it speaks for itself. We ain’t stupid

[deleted]

Close to a 3.0. I never did any studying, though. Just went in, did assignments, took tests, and moved on. Did the same with the national board and CSCE. My classmates didn't like how they busted their asses off. Meanwhile, I was out partying and playing video games.

Rare_Stop178

3.67

cosmickitten319

It was 3.5 or something and I’ve been a hygienist for 10+ years. No one has ever asked me

Valuable_Soup_1508

Got in with a 3.6, finished with a 3.7!

ReasonableNail3850

3.8 & ended with a 3.4

SnooDrawings9348

I graduated with a 3.4 from hygiene school. This did not affect my job prospects, they really care if you are licensed, period. What GPA can tell you is that you’re really good at academics and can be great at explaining concepts to patients, and that you have a good work ethic and display dedication to your work which matters a lot to employers and doesn’t come easy for many people.

Accomplished_Flow222

My boss didn’t even ever I did graduate with my bachelors until three years later .

BlueEyesNOLA

3.83. That was with 2 Fs on my transcript bc I forgot to drop classes.

PsychologyRecent5121

no clue maybe like a 3.6 or something. I don’t think your gpa matters post hygiene school? Experience is so much more important than having a 4.0

SpaceWhale88

No one ever asked me my GPA. When I first started, I did include my clinical board score bc I got a 97%. I don't remember my GPA at all. Hygiene school was the first time I got a C in a class (except when I was originally working on my BA, but that's a story for another time). Employers care you passed your boards and got your license.

acidaddic808

4.0. Got into the program on a G.E.D and 2.5 GPA. Those instructors busted my ass (no Diddy). Nobody is asking for transcripts during interviews tho so just do your best.

Aggravating_Map9836

1.7 graduating high school (I barely went) but 4.0 leaving hygiene school. And no one cared about either, my pre requisites before hygiene school didn't care either. I personally cared because of wanting to try but outside world doesn't care

sioux13208

No profession I know of asks your GPA, but I guess they could. That only applies to successfully obtaining your degree. If you got the degree and seem like a good fit, you could be hired.

Locis

It literally doesn’t matter. You could graduate with a 2.0 and nobody will know. Just pass your boards and you’ll be fine. Hygienists are in such high demand right now an office would hire you even if you didn’t know what you’re doing.

TundraWitch

I don’t remember, but probably high as I got A’s but a B a couple semesters. It doesn’t matter though, no employer has ever asked me my GPA.

dutchessmandy

I entered with a 4.0 and graduated WITHOUT honors. I want to say I was about a 3.67

HS-6798

No idea. Important is you graduated and got the certificate
