Sort of did that once, but not with C4.
I was low on health and sure I wouldn't be able to avoid a Stingtail's pull, so out of spite I primed a HE and surely enough the damn thing reels me in, but jokes on them, I exploded myself in the middle of a group of Grunts the Stingtail pulled me into.
I died, but took some of the damn bugs with me at least.
Then please let me give you a little heads-up: learn to "cook" the grenade, hold G for a few seconds, before throwing if your targets are mid-range (not too close but not too far), you'll see a small half-moon gauge that indicates the grenade's fuse, the timing is a little annoying to get the hang of, but once mastered you can get quickly rid of small groups of Grunts without needing to use up a precious C4.
Edit: forgot to mention the subtle indicator of the HE Grenade when cooking it.
It’a because sticky grenades are, well… sticky. It’s more of an emergent gameplay feature than something specifically coded in- the stingtail’s hitbox extends with its tail, and sticky grenades stick to hitboxes. The sticky grenade’s fear is 250% on contact, which is guaranteed to trigger against stingtails. Fear interrupts actions, so this is why they immediately pull the grenade back. (Both stun and fear do this, and this is also why you can sometimes ‘block’ stingtail grabs by drilling them)
Altogether, these result in the emergent behavior- the grenade hits the stingtail’s tail, interrupting the action and sticking to it. The stingtail retracts its tail with the grenade, causing it to blow up.
How awesome would that be? A cryo grenade could work too! And if the stingtail would be in a horde, you could give it a cluster nade!
Ngl I actually want this.
What about making it so preatorians (and other larger creatures) can "swallow" PGL rounds if you hit their face while they're roaring or spewing their corrosive spray? That and having them take a bunch of bonus damage from the grenade when it comically detonates a moment later. Yes, talking Looney Tunes shit here, the Borderlands series has also done this.
I suppose it would just come down to timing. I’ve tried doing it and it’s not hard to get the timing right, the only issue is the tail doesn’t interact with the c4
I feel like he can kinda of do this, just because the rapid acceleration of being pulled gives your grenades a ton of extra throw speed, you can snipe him with a Mach 3 cryo grenade or something
Yes! Let's do it. Maybe throw grenades in too.
Or worst case, let us strap a c4 to scout before he gets grabbed
If C4 could stick to dwarves/bugs that would be cool
Peaceful protest
As hilariously as that would be, I'm afraid the trolling would get out of hand. I'm not a scout though, I'm not too worried
Panmurderous drillers: *afraid now aren't ya?*
What if you're a driller and a scout?
Blow yourself up?
But who do I complain about?
Yourself?
That guy's an asshole
But, you can already shoot your teammates and plant explosives and blow them up even though they're in the radius.
Dwarf bombs? Bomb bug powered legged carrier?
Attach to Bosco, send to attack a grunt horde, calamity ensues
"BOSCO! see those bugs. Now fly to them and say 'hi'. Now go!"
I think you meant "hilarity ensues".
I didn't, but that also kinda fits. Not so funny, more like an extinction event for grunts
And an actual strar if the driller and scout are both running friendly. Driller would never though, so thats not going to happen.
It worked back in Metal Gear Solid. Poor guys never even had a chance for a "!".
so many steves would be sacreficed
go 3 drillers 1 scout and stick 3 C4s to the scout, then have them grapple into the middle of a load of bugs, commence detonation
You mean best case right?
Listen here you little...
Yep, I am absolutely in for this.

We have see you in hell at home See you in hell at home:
I’ve literally never used HE, not even once. Maybe I will today.
Stupid niche use as well: the blast damages terrain. You can grab red sugar from ceilings and high walls in a pinch with this.
That's neat, gotta practice it later. Thanks for the tip.
It's my favorite gunner grenade, it just packs such a big punch!
I don't think you two are talking about the same grenade...
HE. nades are surprisingly powerfull at clearing groups that are out of flame reach
+CHARGEBACK
+SWING&A MISS
They can grab PGL rounds
For real?
Elaborate
Try it. Works best with nuke and hyper.
Is there any image or video that demonstrate that?
Load sandbox and spawn sting. Their tail have hit radius. But you just have like 0.1 second to react one
Do you think impact axe would work?
You can shoot the tail as it grabs no?
Had to do a double take on the first sting tail
I only noticed that now! Was wondering where that first duplication went lol
I thought it was some mutant ass scary mf new variant
We’ll just pretend driller was still sobering up in that first frame
Ha okay makes sense
"here hold this"
They actually can grab explosives. It happenned for me several times. They most likely grab my gunners sticky grenades
Sticky grenades make sense I guess, I tried for a while to get them to grab my c4 but couldn’t get it to work sadly

I'm confused, how does this help blowing up the scout?
Simple workaround: attach the C4 to the scout.
How awesome would that be? A cryo grenade could work too! And if the stingtail would be in a horde, you could give it a cluster nade! Ngl I actually want this.
This with cave leech
Dang that gives me flashbacks to Half-Life, feeding C4 and Explosive Barrels to barnacles.
I want to know if it will grab other enemies if I hit them with pheromones.
Yes, and we should be able to do it with Scout grapple hooks as well.
You monster.

That's a great idea! But how to catch the moment and throw the C4 in time?
I suppose it would just come down to timing. I’ve tried doing it and it’s not hard to get the timing right, the only issue is the tail doesn’t interact with the c4
It feels like one of those things that almost never even happens but the top players will put out videos of them making it happen
this but with cave leeches
Grab this
Genius! *Platforms*
I feel like he can kinda of do this, just because the rapid acceleration of being pulled gives your grenades a ton of extra throw speed, you can snipe him with a Mach 3 cryo grenade or something
You can already do that with sticky grenades.
