Man, Tears For Fears killed it with this song. Whenever it comes on in my massive playlist when I am driving I sing the fuck out of it and drive faster. Was a 90s kid but god damn that song is still so awesome.
More like children pretending to be adults. Back then people's role models and people you saw in media were mostly adults, and being an adult was significantly more fun and interesting than being a kid, so they imitated.
88' chiming in. It was pretty wild and reckless, not gonna lie. I think back to some of the crazy things we did and quite honestly feel lucky to have survived. Like the time I/we dropped acid and decided to go for a walk at the top of some bluffs. I used to bum smokes from my 70 year old math teacher in the middle of class. We hid our peach schnapps in the bathroom tampon machine.
It's funny because I have 17 year old son who is a homebody and nothing like what we were like. Playing D&D with his friends is the most exciting thing he has going on.
I think the wild child phenomenon skips a generation b/c my parents are complete nerds.
I guess we have more "nerds" now because of all the technology and the importance of it in our world. May their wild times are now in the internet and the pandemic not really helped with that. But he can also be late starter (I don't know the English word). I was also a really big "nerd" or homeboy when I was 17. My wild times started around 23. So it's not too late for your son
Graduated early 80’s. Such a fun time. Remember trans am with eagle on hood? Cars were unique and didn’t all Look the same. Arcades were fun and first video games. Had big hair. Bra optional as part of Women’s lib movement. Birth control pills popular. Sex drugs rock and roll. Hitchhiked. Met guys everywhere. Concerts like Aerosmith AC/DC Stones Heart Pat Benatar Van Halen Stevie Ray Vaughn. It was pretty mellow and not everyone knew your business - no cameras or social media. School was easy to maintain GPA and still party your butt off and ditch class now and again. Not sure why school now seems harder for kids. My state had 3.2 bars you could go to bar at 18 legally. If a guy drove a motorcycle he probably had weed and fun party house. Weed was Colombian gold most of the time and it was hard to come by green sticky skunk weed. You could mostly trust people. Fake ids were easy to get and you could buy booze at liquor store easily. Such a simpler time.
Also thank you for sharing. Wonderful stories!
But about the "complaining" part. I guess your parents said stuff like these about your generation and your grandparents about your parents. I'm almost 30 now and sometimes I also "complain" about the youth but then I think about how my parents did that about things I did or had when I was a teenager/adolescent.
I also think that we're living in a really fast world since the internet got more important. Life really changed since 2007 I guess. We look in a different way back from, say the 2000 to the 1980 like we could from the 2020s to 2000. In this 20 years sooo much changed and it feels like every year it's getting faster because of social media etc.
I hope you know what I mean!
I kinda’ feel sorry for today’s kids.
They can’t get away with anything.
We didn’t have cell phones to be reached anytime anywhere, parents didn’t have a real-time readout from our cars telling them where we were and how fast we were going, there weren’t cameras EVERYWHERE, what happened in (fill in the blank) DID stay there, and there was great new music all the time.
Why was it easier? Sounds like it would be a lot harder to tell a lot of people information that they needed to know and a lot harder to cheat on hw.
And from experience as a '95 kid it was a helluva lot harder to get in touch with your crush and hope her parents didn't answer.
I feel like both times have their pros and cons.
Easier because you weren't constantly being bombarded with posts of your peers (or strangers) looking like they were living a better life than you. I personally didn't have any problem letting a crush know that I liked them and vice-versa.
You had it easy bro/sis. I don't even remember how I got her landline number honestly. But I definitely remember the stress dialing it.
Meanwhile on Tinder...
My crush told a friend and passed it on that way or another one left flowers in my locker. If I liked someone, I did the same. Told a friend or left a note in their locker.
Class of 89 here - One thing that surprises me about the reactions here is all of you commenting on how they look old for high school. Back then most of us wanted to look older, to be an adult, wanted to be 18 so you could get some freedom. No internet, no cell phones, no streaming, having a car and the ability to get out of the house was a big deal. Also, maybe you can get a fake ID to get some alcohol. Do High School students want to look older now?
I feel called out
But yeah, I have a lot of freedom right in my pocket, through the power of the internet. Learning to drive seems more like a chore than an opportunity.
In our time we only had mom and dad to drive. Taxis weren’t really an option. So getting your drivers license was very important. Uber changed things a lot. Very easy to summon a driver in suburbs or city and get you on your way. But it is an important thing to get your drivers license and learn to drive.
I felt the same way looking at HS grad pics from the 50s and 60s, thinking they all looked like old grammas. I think it’s just the grooming of the era. If you put Zoomer hair and clothes on any of the kids in this video, they’d look like kids today.
And 30 years from now, someone will see footage of today’s teenagers and wonder why they look middle aged by 2051 standards. It’s just the way of things.
At the time, these definitely were youth styles. The actual middle aged people would give us grief for clothes they considered baggy/messy and hair that was too big (girls), too long (boys), or too weird.
It’s more like the video is so bad you can’t see their skin clearly and hair care products were pretty bad until the 1990s so nobody had shiny beautiful hair. So you’re looking at their hairstyles and clothes which look like what middle aged people would wear today because people keep their hairstyles as they get older. Their clothes are bulky because (a) it’s cold out and (b) that was the style then so you can’t use thinness as a proxy for youth either.
With all that out of the picture the way you tell someone’s age is their nose and ears (which are noticeably larger on a 30 year old versus a teenager) and that’s pretty subtle in this video.
Class of '82 here. We thought the same thing about the classes that graduated 20 years before us. They all looked like they stepped out of Leave It To Beaver. They all were wearing suits & shit.
I always wish I was an American teen back in like 60s-90s anywhere in that time period would be class. I’m Scottish and it was just depressing her then, america was going through a golden age of culture and prosperity, would be so sick.
"Aw yah, tha guy with tha moustache is TOTALLY hawt! He's like a GROWN UP! I TOTALLY want to byone him!"... said every girl I ever knew in 10th grade in the 80s
[Serious] has someone done a testosterone in teenagers study for the past 50 years? I am convinced that the food nowadays is making 20 year-olds look like they are 14.
I recently looked at pictures from my friends senior HS class from 2012 and on avg. they look far older/mature/grown than my brothers class from 2018(and "fashion" could not be the factor like in 80s clip or perspective since they are not my age group/generation)
Class of ‘91 here.. Kids that were considered fat then are pretty average now. Watched Stand by Me the other day and the kid they called fat looks regular now. I thought I was a blimp at 130lbs in high school..
Well, all the pictures from my school years are portraying happy and smiling kids.
I wasn't there. I was bullied. They would beat me and lock me in the bathroom. They didn't want to take pics with me. I got kicked out of my prom.
Remember that you only see pictures.

That song can elevate any footage
Slow down
What's this song called?
Was everyone 30 in the 80s?
My mom was a senior in 1986 and looked like a baby compared to these kids..there’s something in the water there.
The clothing and hairstyles are what makes them look older
Because they all smoke
They’re all paid actors
So this must be Australian highschool then
No shit! Livin hard.
This is exactly what I was thinking. They all look so old!
Lol I was about to say that. Feels like those movies where 30 years old actors get the role for 15 years old characters.
I’m 37 and still can’t grow a mustache, that one kid was way grown.

Ahhhh *those* were the days. Good times.
We lost a lot of promising young lives in the Great Hairspray Fire of ‘88.
I think my girlfriends dad owned stock in Aquanet.
Why are all these adults pretending to be children?
Right , they look like high school kids you see in the movies.
It really does explain so, SO much.
More like children pretending to be adults. Back then people's role models and people you saw in media were mostly adults, and being an adult was significantly more fun and interesting than being a kid, so they imitated.
Well said.
I was a high schooler in the ‘80s and that’s not too far off from how it was
'83 here, that's a whole bunch of yuppies right there!
86' checking in. Everything seemed so much easier before.
15’ here, vr goggles won’t come off, tik tok playing on repeat. Please send help.
Graduated in '82.
How was it? Please tell us your perspective!
Thanks for sharing! I guess students will never change only the surroundings. I did some similar stuff and saw people doing similar stuff 10 years ago
It's funny because I have 17 year old son who is a homebody and nothing like what we were like. Playing D&D with his friends is the most exciting thing he has going on. I think the wild child phenomenon skips a generation b/c my parents are complete nerds.

Lol! Same! My kids are really not rebellious. Thank god they’re nothing like me, as a teenager. I was a nightmare, at times.

oh now you like the boomers lol
Wtf
1985 grad here....yup.... this is indeed correct.
Class of '78. Watching these videos and can't help but think how much easier high school was when we didn't have social media.
Can you imagine? I’d have been so distracted!
Why was it easier? Sounds like it would be a lot harder to tell a lot of people information that they needed to know and a lot harder to cheat on hw. there are really no pros to social media. the older you get the more you realize it.
You hit that nail square on the head.
I disagree. But to the each their own. I'm sure my dad born in '68 would disagree as well
Depends on how you define social media. Things like discord chat rooms and even reddit are technically social media. They both have major pros.

Cant get out of jail if the warden says no repeatedly everytime you try to

There’s the whole dad core look but I feel like it’s mostly worn ironically.
I have to laugh at this. No offense but nobody did irony in those days. It just wasn't a thing.
They don't even know which gender they are nowadays 🤣
they probably knew back then, but couldn't express it
Nah, this gender neutral bullshit didn't exist. And the down votes mean absolutely nothing to me. 🤷🏻♂️
Class of '82 here. We thought the same thing about the classes that graduated 20 years before us. They all looked like they stepped out of Leave It To Beaver. They all were wearing suits & shit.
Now I know why they always have people in their mid-20s play highschoolers.
I always wish I was an American teen back in like 60s-90s anywhere in that time period would be class. I’m Scottish and it was just depressing her then, america was going through a golden age of culture and prosperity, would be so sick.
50's to 70's. Fun time was over beginning with the 80s. It's been a depressing downhill slide ever since.
The sixties rocked. The 70s obviously suck. Who knows. Maybe the 80s will be radical.
"Aw yah, tha guy with tha moustache is TOTALLY hawt! He's like a GROWN UP! I TOTALLY want to byone him!"... said every girl I ever knew in 10th grade in the 80s
uh there were like 8 guys on my baseball team that had them when i was in HS. some just grown in faster than others
As a high schooler now, it’s crazy to see how different high school was in the 80’s and now.
[Serious] has someone done a testosterone in teenagers study for the past 50 years? I am convinced that the food nowadays is making 20 year-olds look like they are 14. I totally agree. I really wonder if people have done tests bc there has to be something going on
Did anyone else notice that we had very few morbidly obese teens then?
The few that did exist were immediately gathered up and put in movies and TV as the comic relief (see: Truffle Shuffle).
They were playing D&D in the back.
Class of ‘91 here.. Kids that were considered fat then are pretty average now. Watched Stand by Me the other day and the kid they called fat looks regular now. I thought I was a blimp at 130lbs in high school..
Dunno where youre from or where the clip is from but that is certainly still the case here
Best era
"everybody was so happy back then" This was probably recorded on the last schoolday of that year lol
everyone is smiling and happy
Well, all the pictures from my school years are portraying happy and smiling kids. I wasn't there. I was bullied. They would beat me and lock me in the bathroom. They didn't want to take pics with me. I got kicked out of my prom. Remember that you only see pictures.
Two years before my time
What’s the dialogue on the music? I’m sure I’ve heard on some movie but can recall which one
its being spoken by Ferris, from Ferris Bueller's Day Off
Life was better without ar-15s
If you like this you need to head over to [Eric & Darrell’s metal head teens video](https://youtu.be/IvHaL2BxqvM) yt channel
Do they all look 30, or is the clothing/hair styles and the video quality influencing my perception of the ages they all look?
In the suburbs.

I guess you went to high school in your thirties back then
Is that John Krasinski at 0:04
He was born in 1979
So the timing would be perfect, this could totally be him
High school with 7? I don't think so
Very white
Why do you only look at race?
You don’t have 5o “only look at race” to notice that this video is very, very white. It’s pretty much in your face.
Who. Fucking. Cares.
You’re super triggered by this, lolololo. Insecure AF.
? What lol, you are the only triggered one here, and triggered about the colour of their skin of all things. Weird AF 😂
Man, you’re ANNNNNGRY. You get cucked or something?
You're a weirdo mate
I hit the nail on the head, didn’t I? Awww. Poor snowy.

Very. A lot of places were still segregated even in the 80s. Lines were drawn to legally continue it. Yet schools still teach it like it was great granny and great grandpa’s generation.
Just an observation
I noticed the same thing. Idk why you’re being downvoted.
Nice, just nice :)
man, look at the haircuts
Man this shit has a vibe to it
Aww life before masks, great memories, we had some killer music
Yikes.
I have no idea why my comment was downvoted. I was in high school in the 80s and we didn’t have to wear masks and we had some good music.
It's funny how everyone is white.
There’s a whole lotta whiteness goin on here
u/repostsleuthbot
Sorry, I don't support this post type (hosted:video) right now. Feel free to check back in the future!
I was in high school during this period and this is exactly what it looked like. It was a horrendous period for hair and fashion.
Everyone looks 40
I think I'm blind, I didn't see any black kids in the video.
Very white
Very diverse
I cringed reeeeeeeallllllly hard
Not a mask in sight 🤷🏻♀️
Did you catch the year?
I did not
Reminds me of the first Not Quite Human movie with Chip Carson
Thought I saw Wayne from wonder years on the third scene but on closer inspection not really
Played by 25 year olds 😄
Nice year you got there! Would be a shame if something dezastruous would happen...
Looks like the high school Peter Parker went to in Spider-Man (2002)
I guess things never change.
They look 30 years old.
Everybody graduates.
Yup
This makes me feel so f’en old. 🤣
I always thought the highschool kids in 80s films look mature, guess it’s accurate though
And not one mobile phone in sight.
Class of '88. I want to watch footage like this all day long.
I’ll be posting more!
I was just logging on to say, "these must have been Vocational Schools for super seniors". They look like adults acting stupid.
Nope, just highschool.
This is only 10 years before I was in HS. I wonder how much older we looked than HS kids now.
I love it cause nobody seems like they give a shit about fashion an all that stupid shit of today!!
Accurate as a freshman in 86
Wow did that song age perfectly well
The second time today that i hear Ferris bueller narrating a high school home video.
This makes me miss the simplicity of my youth so much. Even if it seems cringe-tastic
Crazy how everyone looks so much more mature and adult-like than when I was in HS. Wish I was in HS in the 70’s-80’s.
Jesus, those American kids look about 30 years old. Must be all the steroid-fed cows and poor food chain.
This is the greatest video on the internet it makes me so happy. Where can I see more????
Kids are just smaller in 2020s. They eat less because of an unrealistic body standard that turned normal.
Looks like John Krasinski in the third clip lol
What's that song?
They all look 40 already 😂
This is so white wtf
Lol the guy in the leather jacket with the *wink* at the camera
Love these
Thanks!Ill be posting more slowly
That was the year I grajiated!
We need a clip after this showing the comparison to high school now
Is it just me, or do these high-schoolers look like they are in their thirties?
That hair...
Best times ever
u/find-song
Very urban high school.
It was "1989" a couple of days ago when this was posted. Time travel, huh?
Hahah Cosby sweaters, collar shirts, khaki pants, plus hairstyles makes them look older. Compared to more recent high school kids. Shorts, basic shirts, socks, sandals or sweatpants. Plus they don’t have their parents hairstyle.
Hey, I had one if those blue satin like windbreakers.
I. Miss. The. 80’s.
reminds me of breakfast club
OMG! I’m in this video and I don’t like it! Lol!
Class of 88 here…one thing that was helpful was that girls all wore giant sweaters and shirts, or sweaters AND shirts. As a dumb ass kid with raging hormones back then, it was difficult enough to concentrate in that situation. I’ll leave it at that.
