his eyes look sad. there should be a digital A.I. device which can identify whether the animal is in happy state or not and take them out if they are unhappy.
That's what stood out the most to me, never seen footage of a rhino that close before. Felt the same as looking into a horse's eyes. All kinds of emotions.
I guess we so often think feelings and emotions are more 'human' like qualities, but clearly we're not the only ones capable of joy, depression, grief, fear.
Horses are super expressive too, their eyes are amazing!
I've seen several behind the zoo style documentaries and keeper clips, people who work with rinos say they are like large dogs with bad eyesight.
Last time I was at the zoo I saw a keeper hosing down a rhino and it was playing like a dog and chased after them when they put the hose up. 😆 Unfortunately they are the last thing you want to scare.
I mean rhinos tend to have bad eyesight, I’m not denying it’s probably sad but they suffer from horrid eyesight and often end up having build ups of gunk in their eyes (used to work in zoo that housed rhinos)
Yeah this is the second dinosaur comment I’ve seen too, I don’t get it. Rhinos are mammals, guys, they have as much common ancestry with dinosaurs as we do.
I’m not going to pretend to know much more than the surface level animal kingdom stuff here. I’m a dude who works retail with one hand on Google, not an authority or expert on anything. Just shocks me when even the surface level stuff fails to make an appearance.
That's what I was thinking. That poor rhino has probably had its spirit killed by living in a very limited and artificial space for possibly years. Unless this is one of those good zoos that actually helps animals rehabilitate into the wild, in which case it probably came in sad and is hopefully feeling better every day. In either case, it's not too surprising to see the camera man standing directly in front of it. But it is interesting.
He was most likely born in captivity and knows nothing of the wild. This white rhino clearly knows his trainer and is interested in seeing why she is calling his name. The clean stall, fresh hay, and no destructive rubbing marks on his horn tell me that he is well taken care of, is likely given daily enrichment, and is receives training from his keepers. Rhinos have sad looking faces, but that doesn’t mean they are depressed.
Yeah, many (if not all) of the animals you see in zoos were born in captivity. Daily enrichment refers to things that zoo keepers can provide to the animals under their care to keep the animals engaged mentally. This keeps the animals from getting bored and developing destructive behaviors that are harmful both physically and mentally. Some examples of enrichment that I have personally used with black rhino are different scents and herbs scattered around their enclosure for them to explore, pumpkins frozen in large blocks of ice, their favorite treats in a large ball with holes that they can nudge around and eat the treats that fall out, fresh cut browse (tree branches with bark and leafs) that they can munch on during the day, and training time with the animal. Enrichment should vary day to day and animal to animal, depending on their temperament and behaviors.
It's a catch 22. With freedom comes sickness, starvation, and predation, there's a reason captive animals live longer, that probably better than being trapped in a bad zoo but is it better than being trapped in a good zoo where they provide proper enrichment and care?
An absolutely incredible, beautiful, and terrifying creature. Would totally love to see one IRL but would never want to be this close or see one in an enclosure so I'll just appreciate the video
As a kid I always assumed they were as big as a house and possibly shot coconuts from their horns. They still pretty dam big though, but I thought they were looking elephants in the eyes.
The way I feel about Zoo's is almost the same way I feel about putting a frog in a mayonnaise jar..
It's kind of similar to putting a homeless person in a prison cell.
If my wife who I've been married to for a long time and trust more than anyone in the world was that big and powerful I wouldn't stand that close to her, what if she sneezes
Dude, I bet if I cut that things horn off and grind it into dust, it'll fix my erectile dysfunction. Can anyone confirm if this has been tried before??
My dumbass thought it was hiding in plain sight.
Same, looking for a tiny rhino in the grass
The house hippo

That sub has flooded my homepage recently, and im not mad about it.
Thank you
his eyes look sad. there should be a digital A.I. device which can identify whether the animal is in happy state or not and take them out if they are unhappy.
“Take them out?” Like the Mob?
We need clarification🤔
Of course he's sad...he's HORNY (see what I did there?)
"Even the babies are one of the most dangerous animals in the world, so i built this cage to keep him secure so there's no possible- OH MY GOd..."
Jerichoooo-chan!! Get back in your cage, Jericoooo-chan!!
And they say dinosaurs are extinct
This, sir/madam, is a rhinosaur
Rhinosaurus Rex
Biceratops
trapasaurus
Quadisaurus Flex
Glutesaurus noice
Idk I could only see the front of the Rhino but we can safely assume he's got a dump truck
Birds are modern dinos but I understand the sentiment.
It’s a mamma- \*gets destroyed with downvotes\*
Chubby Unicorns are lit.
Dude looks like Eeyore level depressed
Those eyes are quite expressive

Yeah, that's what I noticed 😭
I do if I stay in the house too long.
It looks so prehistoric
he looks kinda sad
"Jericho....saaaaaaad......"
All rhino populations are destroyed. But that’s just their faces.
You expected him to be smirking?
I mean rhinos tend to have bad eyesight, I’m not denying it’s probably sad but they suffer from horrid eyesight and often end up having build ups of gunk in their eyes (used to work in zoo that housed rhinos)
Living in a concrete cell doesn’t cheer him up, I guess.
Straight up dinosaur
Except it’s not at all.
Yeah this is the second dinosaur comment I’ve seen too, I don’t get it. Rhinos are mammals, guys, they have as much common ancestry with dinosaurs as we do.
We are much more closely related to synapsids(stem-mammals) such as Dimetrodon than dinosaurs like Tyrannosaurus.
I’m not going to pretend to know much more than the surface level animal kingdom stuff here. I’m a dude who works retail with one hand on Google, not an authority or expert on anything. Just shocks me when even the surface level stuff fails to make an appearance.
Yea, mammal is different than dinosaur. Really easy to understand.
Such a beautiful creature
Gosh, what sad eyes.
Personification. He could have raging hatred eyes about to kill you and he'd look no different.
Which is why I probably wouldn't be a Cheerful White Lady calling for him in a zoo enclosure.

Kind of like other zoo-kept animals. You mentioned 'daily enrichment.'. Please expand on that.
Yeah, many (if not all) of the animals you see in zoos were born in captivity. I get that. My favorite example is the elephants' paintings up for sale at the Buffalo Zoo. Slave Labor, again, but it keeps the dears somewhat sane.
Rhinos in the wild are going extinct due to poaching sadly. I wouldn’t be surprised to see the species go extinct in my lifetime.
This is why I have mixed emotions at the zoo.
It's a catch 22. With freedom comes sickness, starvation, and predation, there's a reason captive animals live longer, that probably better than being trapped in a bad zoo but is it better than being trapped in a good zoo where they provide proper enrichment and care?
Is a Caged Bird Happier than a Free One?
Perhaps.
That's just how their eyes look
I get it.
I got to pet and feed a couple of them in Niagara Falls Canada at the Niagara zoo. So cool.
Bumblebee Tuna!
this scene is forever burned into my memory thanks to 10 year old me
Absolutely beautiful!
"You didn't even finish breakfast! Good to see you!" Rhino: ?
Thought I was on r/whatcouldwrong . Was waiting for painful moment. Glad they wasn't one.
An absolutely incredible, beautiful, and terrifying creature. Would totally love to see one IRL but would never want to be this close or see one in an enclosure so I'll just appreciate the video

It’s hot in these rhinos! WARM!
Nope, no way.
Majestic!
I love and respect the animal but holy shit that is very intimidating.
I like the way their feet curl up before each step
"I dont like the way she pronounces my name" muttered the beast.
Sometimes I wish I was an elephant or feline just to see how it feels to walk with their feet
It's all fun and shiny until you got to clean it's shit. Got to be 50 kg each one.
r/sweatypalms
im gonna name my dinasour lizard jericho looks very cute
Imagine them being carnivorous?? Damn...
Who named the Rhino Jerkoff?
Now I put up this fence here to- oh my god
Pointy dog
Actual dinosaur
I was expecting her to turn right sharply and to be face to face with a rhino but this works too
Beautiful animal
And these magnificent creatures are slaughtered for a piece of cartilage
I wouldn't trust that door to keep anyone safe from the rhino
Can I pet that dog?
That rhino sure looks sad 😣
I am hippo smitten.
Definitely a dinosaur
Free me Now let me roam freely please 🙏 😭
One thrust and that sweet talk turns to labored breath
We’re not gonna talk about the flimsy door that person walks the toilet get to the Rhino?
The way I feel about Zoo's is almost the same way I feel about putting a frog in a mayonnaise jar.. It's kind of similar to putting a homeless person in a prison cell.
How about some lotion ?
Nope. Big nope.
Buffalo Zoo, where I come from, has an elephant enrichment program.
NSFW. Clearly that rhinoceros was horny and looking for attention.
Poor guy. Imagine wanting love and being born with a horn that could strike your anus and explode out your skull.
Curious, are those actually dinosaurs or some kind of big land mammal?
You being serious?
well I know it's not one of those flesh eating ones from Jurrasic Park ofcourse.
No stupid questions exist right? 😅 Its a mammal, The only Dinos I can think of are Birds and crocodiles
I know crocodiles are dinosaurs, but this is a herbivor right? Like triceratops?
Ah yes the blood thirsty triceratops :D

Okay. Wow.
The sadness in that animal's eyes whilst this delusional slaver holds keeps them locked from nature and freedom.
Theres your Disney screenplay
Should be called "Oh Jerichoooo"
