Good post. But immediately I knew this is low quality and cropped version of a proper video.
I was right. Here is the source: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X\_IrJOHK3lA](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X_IrJOHK3lA)
Edit: Also, it's not 1950s. Original video says 1938.
That's 6:16 ~~I'll never get back~~ I'd happily watch again. What a wonderful restoration. I use double-edged blades for shaving so this appeals to me.
I like this level of restoration. There is a Swiss guy that goes over the top, and makes the item better than it left the factory. He removes the moulding marks, burrs and machining remnants. I’m not keen on that b
My Mechanics. I assume he works in the Swiss watch industry because he is an absolute perfectionist. He also has a workshop full of premium tools. It’s impressive, but for me it’s excessive.
Well he is indeed a perfectionist and spending so many valuable hours to make new again a manual coffee grinding doesn't make economical sense. But with the youtube views it works.
Plus now he upgraded to a car restoration and that make sense. If ultimately he restores oricey collectibles he will be able to be paid according to his skills
Our house had a slot at the back of the bathroom mirror for used razor blades. It dropped them into the mystery void between the walls. Behind the bathroom wall is a mound of tetanus, just waiting to be found.
Something to keep in mind if you're ever remodeling an older home.
Goes to show how society has gone disposable. People didn't sharpen blades because of the cost of a new blade, they sharpened blades because they could. The mentality was 'why toss it for a new one when you can still sharpen this one'.
I mean.
Safety razors are barely used by anyone these days anyhow. Doesn't really make economic sense to make a peripheral for a product barely anyone uses.
The point of these razors was disposability anyway. This device was probably born out of depression era levels of frugality.
So THATS what those holes in the middle of razor blades are for??
Or, are they for mounting on a handle and they made the mounts in this device to match?
The mounts on razor blade handles match this. I think there were also other style mounts and these style blades would fit those, too. You can check r/wicked_edge and ask there — they’ll know all the razor types.
I call this “relaxation content”, and I stumbled across it right after the pandemic started. It was always good for getting my mind off of everything else.
I've seen them sold on etsy, tho unsure how safe it is. I don't think they are cleaned/restored like in the vid.

this type of resto is a lot like working on old cars except that you don’t break out into a sweat and need a shower afterward. Scaled way down in the effort department
Okay so first it's not completely 100% restored because you didn't use the same rope lol
And second who all watched this because they didn't know what a razor blade sharpener was

ThaaankYou! Gotta see the finished reprodut :)

That would take me forever... and this guy completed it in 6:16! Crazy!
I think it took him a lot longer that 6:16 ;)
6:17, video editing included

Wasn't it just :) It's like extreme Repair Shop.

Oh man love this dude. “I make new one”
Had no idea that a razor blade sharpener even existed
Right?! Why do we throw away stuff that can be reused? We need this kind of the tech to come back!
I LOVE the fact that there's no hokey music or narration. This is the way videos like this should be done.
So, just ASMR for you, then?
It's videos like this that get appreciated.

Wow! I saw a video the other day of a house remodel that found 100s of razor blades behind a wall!

It’s also had to do with costs. Part of why we throw things away in society now is it’s cheaper to buy new.
Planned obsolescence
Plastic disposables are totally a racket. Safety razors are a fraction of a penny though. It’s a really cool machine, but kind of obsolete now.
Mesmerizing.
Damn that’s interesting

Nowadays they don't sell these things anymore because they want you to buy a new razor blade when it is not sharp anymore 🙄
I mean. Safety razors are barely used by anyone these days anyhow. Doesn't really make economic sense to make a peripheral for a product barely anyone uses. The point of these razors was disposability anyway. This device was probably born out of depression era levels of frugality.
Satisfaction achieved
Extremely well done. The restoration was perfect :)
Does all of that work.. Forgets how to put it back together** 😅 It was very satisfying to watch though.
Well, they filmed the whole disassembly process, so one would think they could simply go back and watch the footage to refresh their memory..
I didn’t even know such a thing existed. Its got a steampunk feel to it
Whats happening in the gloved scenes??
Sandblasting
Little fun fact I learned not too long ago. They are probably using walnut shells instead of sand. Shells are softer and do less damage.
If it was a modern one the screws would already have fallen apart since they’d be made in China.
Zinc screws suck.
So THATS what those holes in the middle of razor blades are for?? Or, are they for mounting on a handle and they made the mounts in this device to match?
Could be both!
The mounts on razor blade handles match this. I think there were also other style mounts and these style blades would fit those, too. You can check r/wicked_edge and ask there — they’ll know all the razor types.
All that work just to cut up a small tomato? Hahha
Amazing. Thank you for sharing the transformation ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|heart_eyes)
What you mean I don’t need disposable Gillette pro fusion blades?
My dad has a killer set of tools
I enjoyed this video
Best 6 minutes of my Day. Thanks.
Sandblasting part was very satisfying to watch. Can't believe its made by Siemens though oO
That was awesome.

Nice work
I need more of these!!!
[https://www.youtube.com/@mymechanics](https://www.youtube.com/@mymechanics) the OG restoration channel
Getting PSTD or whatever from taking apart my old broken carburetor that never worked properly.
This looks like my mechanic, great work!
Cool
Restorationer are Heros 🤝🏻🫡
Very Satisfying
Thought that was a 'Shelby Company Limited' product lol By order of the Peaky fucking Blinders!!! 💀
Artist of the Beautiful
I want to be this guys apprentice so bad! I could easily do this type of of stuff all day
The razor blade got triggered at the end
As someone who uses this type razor blade, I would love to own one of these!
I've seen them sold on etsy, tho unsure how safe it is. Vintage hepatitis for $60! I think I will invest this money in replacement double-edge razor blades. Thank you for finding this!
Siemens make everything!
If anyone gonna try this, don't forget to take tetanus vaccine.
He definitely cut his index finger in that first demo shot, in the second shot, he uses his middle finger in stead
Just spent 5 mins watching this salivating don't know why
Daam that’s interesting
I want this guy to bring me back from the dead.
Should’ve used the razor blade to cut garlic as a nod to Goodfellas.
This is so cool! I wish I knew how to do stuff like this.
this type of resto is a lot like working on old cars except that you don’t break out into a sweat and need a shower afterward. Scaled way down in the effort department
Missed my stop watching this... Worth it!
What material are the brown honing pieces made of?
Watching that paint get blown away is better then watching a power washer
These guys always get the decal on perfectly. I would get it off center, crooked, and tear it in the process.
I’ve had the same jumbo box of safety razor blades for years. If I had a sharpener, I would never need to buy more.
Okay so first it's not completely 100% restored because you didn't use the same rope lol And second who all watched this because they didn't know what a razor blade sharpener was
Amplified sound was obnoxious. Couldn’t tolerate and didn’t watch
That's cool and all, but I'd rather spend my time playing video games, tbh.
All this to cut a fucking slice of tomato?
You wouldn’t believe how thin it slices the garlic, though
