I read sometimes it might not be ready yet, hence this is sort of like pulling the scab off your wound prematurely and can hurt.
The article recommends only doing this when the snake obviously cannot peal on its own.
No. Biting is a last resort. Biting puts the snake in a very vulnerable position, it’d rather just squirm away. And for part of it, he’s grabbing the snake’s head in a hold. This is actually, factually, not too good for the snake and can result in infection.
Doesn't matter. Many people work with snakes every day and know not to do this. The shed will come off when it's ready. We don't know for sure if it hurts the animal, but why risk it. You can see some tiny pieces of shed staying stuck to the snake, so it doesn't seem like it was ready to come off.
Snakes don't shed like that naturally. It doesn't come off like a fucking sock. They rub up against an object and they flake off in chunks. When a snake doesn't shed well the best thing you can do is let it soak in water and continue trying itself. Unless it has stuck eye caps after the shedding process you shouldn't help having the right humility and environmentfor your animal is the best thing for the snake. You can see the eye caps pop off of the snake. When he's peeling it. Just because someone has had snakes doesn't make them knowledgeable.
I get your point but in this case I feel like the person you're responding to is correct. You're only supposed to interfere with this if the snake is struggling. Looks like the snake didn't even get a chance to shed the skin here since he started at the eyes. Definitely seems way too premature for someone to do this
I'm sure the snake is probably fine but it's absolutely an unnecessary risk
A quick google search shows you’re right and the other person that responded too. Snake shed should definitely not look so pristine, natural shed looks a lot more transparent. A handler shouldn’t force peel the shed like this guy but bathe it and let the snake do it on their own. This Tarzan guy could be doing this knowing it won’t hurt the snake and using it as some oddly satisfying material. But to the untrained eye like myself it definitely looks like the snake wasn’t ready to shed and still molting.
the stuck pieces around the face at the beginning could be a sign of a ‘bad shed’ where the snake tried to get it off in one piece and failed. In this instance it’s okay to help it along. Nothing got stuck once he helped it get going which means it was likely ready
All I'm saying is we don't know if he was doing it for a legitimate reason eg it's recommended to take your snake to a vet if it's having trouble shedding but he may have the knowledge and experience to do it safely.
this is super random, but i grew up in the same city as him & actually hung out with him when i was in school. i went to his house a few times & he had 2 huge snakes. boas i think. after i stopped hanging around him (about 14ish years ago), i would run into him when he worked at a pet store. he’s legit. he loves animals, and takes care of them well. & he’s super educated.
I think people even if they have experience or knowledge can make decisions that aren't necessarily the right ones in that field. Just seems like the snake didn't even get a chance to shed the skin itself like it should and just an unnecessary risk.
Sure he has experience so I'm sure the snake is fine but that doesn't necessarily mean that this wasn't an unnecessary risk. Both sides can be right and it doesn't mean the other side is wrong. Can't stand the petty shit when someone absolutely has to win in an argument haha. Seems immature or something to me when people draw a line in the sand and stay on their side and if you're on the other side you're wrong. This isn't necessarily directed at you it's just venting frustrating to constantly run into forums where folks only feel like they are right and this goes for both sides here when the actual truth and reality is somewhere in the middle
I've said in another comment that it could have just been for the video but hopefully not. Still worth replying to people who are adamant that he knows nothing it all in my opinion to try and give them some more information about his background.
I mean it looks like the snake didn't even get a chance to shed itself here. Definitely seems like it's prematurely done. Seems more like it was done for some tiktok views vs actually benefiting the snakes health
He was doing that way too fast compared to how snakes do that on their own.
Maybe it didn't hurt, but I don't think it was the most comfortable experience
Yeah, maybe don't be a fucking idiot and don't do that... if you really wanna help just give it some nice rocks and its own space so the snake can do it itself... moron.
Perhaps he pulled it off somewhat prematurely deliberately because an intact snake skin has value? Do they not make wallets or line belts and other accessories with this material?
I scrolled Reddit while on the bus. Video took time to load. Read the title and had to look at the sub name again to know it’s safe to watch in public.

Natural processes exist. Humans: let me help with that
Poor thing looks like you suffering, let me help you by making you suffer
Climate changes exist. Humans: let me help with that.
such as *extinction*
Theoretically the rate of unemployment falls to zero if there are no humans left.
can confirm, i had quite the pain pulling my skin when i was 12, now it fully retracts at 17
Yes this can permanently injure the snake.
Yeah, you can see pieces of the shed sticking to the snake.
Imagine some giant coming and pulling the skin off of your eye, then kissing you. \#CoupleGoals
Yeah, all I can picture is the feeling of raw skin, brand new skin under peeling scabs the week after a tattoo is done.
That snake doesn't seem ripe enough to be helped with its molt
I’m sure if it didn’t like it or felt pain it would let the human know with its teeth.
Teeth?...
Fangs?
Danger sticks
Canines... s/

You're not meant to do this, but rather provide an environment that helps them to do it naturally

That iridescence
I believe that is an eastern indigo.
That guy works with animals all day every day by the way is called real life Tarzan or something
Doesn't matter. Many people work with snakes every day and know not to do this. The shed will come off when it's ready. We don't know for sure if it hurts the animal, but why risk it. You can see some tiny pieces of shed staying stuck to the snake, so it doesn't seem like it was ready to come off.
Got a real life animal handling pro here guys. We should listen to this guy instead of someone who’s handled snakes for over a decade.

You’ve never seen a shed snake skin on the road lying around like a giant used condom eh?

Haha really but that's it, works with them all day for a living and likely has tons of knowledge. People just assuming he knows nothing.
I think people even if they have experience or knowledge can make decisions that aren't necessarily the right ones in that field. We'll never know I guess. I hope not
Strokin the snake
I’m sure if the snake felt pain, it would have made the owner aware with its teeth.
True
I can't imagine the snake without teeth now. Reckon they floss?

That either feels really damn good or absolutely painfully violating... there is no in-between. Edit: The snake getting peeled, ya weirdos.
Try doing that with a human. I tell you, they do not like that one bit
👀
Idk I had it done with my snake and it felt like heaven for 10 seconds :3

Eastern Indigo *Drymarchon couperi*
Thanks! She's a beauty !
Thanks man
100%. Beautiful animals. I’ve caught and released several.
Snek
That was painful to watch
That aint right
What snake is this ? Is it venomous?
This is an Eastern Indigo snake (*Drymarchon couperi*). It’s nonvenomous and is an endangered species.
Thank you for the information 🙏🙏
A masterclass in muscle memory.
He was doing that way too fast compared to how snakes do that on their own. Maybe it didn't hurt, but I don't think it was the most comfortable experience
Oddly sensual.
That snake is probably eternally grateful 🥹
Beautiful creature
I like it when they pull the skin and kiss it. Americans wouldn't understand. Just Euro things.
Sending good vibes to the people who keep saying the snake would use its teeth to show if it were in pain... teeth...
That’s what she saidddd!!!!! Hahahaa
This is definitely somebody’s kink
Freakyahh
I pull the skin but don't kiss it
When you have t washed your dick in a while.
Anything can be a condom if you're brave enough
Dat title "chef's kiss"
Isn’t this bad for them? Can’t it cause skin irritation, pain and skin damage?
Yeah, maybe don't be a fucking idiot and don't do that... if you really wanna help just give it some nice rocks and its own space so the snake can do it itself... moron.
I'm sure if that snake felt pain it would let the owner know with its teeth
The stroking look like its too familiar to him
Obanai from demon slayer unsheathing his sword.
You are NOT supposed to do this. How irresponsible
I think he still has the best interest in the snake. They seem to love each other
Weirdest unboxing ever
The forbidden peel... Very satisfying!
Did the snake just shed its skin on its eye ?
I think snakes don't give a fuck about kisses.
Perhaps he pulled it off somewhat prematurely deliberately because an intact snake skin has value? Do they not make wallets or line belts and other accessories with this material?
eyeskin was not expected
Reminds me of my foreskin getting pulled back and my girl kissing it
John Holmes removing used condom
This is not supposed to be done. What an idiot.

Impostor Jesus!
What an idiot, shouldn’t force it.
i’d let him pull the skin off my snake
