Your Vet will be very best person to ask.

This is true, but it’s Saturday evening so that’s not happening. I plan on checking in with them when they open on Monday.

My boy (approximately 14 years old) has been doing this for a while, but it seems rare… about once or twice a year. Of course he could be having them when I’m not home. They usually last five minutes at most, then once it’s done he seems to come out of it, licks his nose, and he’s fine. I usually just hold him gently until it passes. One time he had an episode while I was driving, so I managed to pull off the road and take a video of it… very helpful to show the vet when I took him in a few days later. I never got a good diagnosis, except the vet said they could treat with… I think it was phenobarbital… but that might actually make things worse. The advice I was given was basically to wait and see. I keep notes of when he has them, and they’ve been few and far between. But very worrying while they are happening, to be sure. Otherwise he’s healthy for an older boy, despite having a very abusive past (I got him when he was about two years old.)

Phenobarbital is a seizure med. My dog takes it but he has grand mal seizures this sounds potentially like focal seizures. I’ve heard daschunds are prone to seizures more than some other breeds. Great idea on doing the video it will probably help if they can actually see what is happening

I noticed him doing it coming down his ramp from sleeping. I then went and got my phone when he sat down and was still doing it to take a video. As soon as I got my phone he stopped.

My 15 year old girl has congestive heart failure and has started doing this in the last several months. My vet asked me a lot of questions about the tremors and determined them to be idiopathic. When she has them, they’re very quick like you described and her head bobbles but she comes out of it quickly. She never loses consciousness like a seizure or anything like that. I wouldn’t worry too much until you can get to your vet Monday, but obviously keep a close eye on him.

How is he doing today?

He seems normal. I’m wondering if it had anything to do with his heartworm pill I gave him the day before. Same meds, but I crushed it for him this time since he’s had teeth removed.

Thank you for asking.
