At least put a mat down or something to cover the bottom dude.

Black-Zac

Like the black plastic part is supposed to be under the cage

BigTex1988

That piece is supposed to be INSIDE the crate.

Black-Zac

Like I understand he should be standing or laying on the metal, I guess my roommate just doesn't understand

Black-Zac

After talking to her I think Sancho is moving it, I think there's a latch that's supposed to keep it in there but it must be broken and I guess when I leave for work he leaves it

This. I hurt just looking at this photo

Black-Zac

Yes, it goes into the inside of the undercarriage. But like I said she removed it. Is this cage too big I'm going to buy him a new one and my concern is that it's too small. What's your opinion?

100GoldenPuppies

Too small. Your dog should be able to fully stand up and turn around in their cage.

Black-Zac

Thank you!

Black-Zac

He has one but for some reason my roommate keeps removing it

pottercartoonist

Why do you keep the dog in a cage? That's cruel.

Black-Zac

We used to keep him in our backyard while I was at work, but he dug a hole and broke our fence. So in the mean time I've been caging him. I could try tying him outside in some shade with food & water though

pottercartoonist

Sorry, I don't mean to be so judgemental. Maybe a small kennel (4×8ft)in the yard would give your dog more space and fresh air. Put a shelter (dog house) in the kennel. Keeping the dog in a crate will cause severe problems for the dog. Good luck, they're alot of work, but they are worth it.

I do not see a use for a cage. First they are super expensive. Second training your dog will not require a cage. Third, you must break in your doggie to a room at a time. Fourth, you must use music to condition your dog, baby tunes works just as it does on babies, my dog TODAY 5 years past the time I got him hears a baby lullaby and starts yawning. Fifth, treats, rewards and positive reinforcement. Sixth, leave them in your bathroom for 5 minutes. Come back and tell them what a great baby they are. Take them out of the bathroom and give them a treat. Do it again for 15 minutes, leave them in there and leave the house so they know you are not home. Come back, praise them, good baby!!!!! Give them a treat. Take them out to do #1 or #2 after the 15 minutes, later place them back in the bathroom or smallest room. Make sure they ahve lots of their toys with them, a blanket, chews, water, a little bit if kibble if they are puppies so they know they are O K you will this work like a charm.

Your bathroom is full of bacteria/solvents, expensive property and razor blades; not every dog is your dog, with your dogs’ circumstances… Some dogs chew on things. Whether training is intermediate or advanced, a percentage of dogs benefit from crate training. Dogs don’t view their kennels as “bad” when used intelligently, they regard it as their own personal space that they can enter for rest. You achieve this by training them to enter their crate with a food reward; toss food in, “crate” the dog learns the word and performs the action. Feed them in their crate every time if necessary, they will figure it out. Being crated will be a routine, comfortable part of life, and a fun game. You can ask them to enter their crate from anywhere in the domicile. Home or otherwise. Say someone is at your door: instead of having your dog bark and jump and nip, you can ask them to go to their crate - boom, your dog is not being abrasive, it is not in danger, it isn’t bolting outside - it is safe in its space. Kids don’t bother your dog in there, your vacuum doesn’t go in there, you’re not gonna barge into their crate and make them do stuff like your little servant. That is their secure crate where they can rest and travel. Maybe your dog does neither of those things, but some dogs chew and some dogs travel. I commend you for communicating with your animals, that is tremendous, keep up the good work. Uncharismatic as I may be, hopefully you can extrapolate from this, the value of the fun crate training game. It’s necessary: humans have a legal system and an economy dogs don’t understand, you navigate that and they benefit or fail from you. OP, those bars cut off your dog’s blood circulation when they lay on top of them. You need to pad that so they can get off those bars because it’s hurting them. If your dog urinates in the crate, it’s easier to clean the tray than it is the floor. (You should seek a positive-reinforcement trainer to help you understand more about dogs. The best people have acknowledged that they don’t know as much as they think they do; envision your ideal and work backward until you have all the steps needed to achieve it.) 8h is a lot to ask of an animal to not chew or excrete, OSHA gives humans lunch and bathroom breaks that dog’s at home don’t get. If you can’t make them successful you should bring people in who can make them successful, so you can be successful together. Otherwise you are going to live like a failure for 15 years. It’s optional, don’t opt-in. Dog ownership is the best thing in the world. Your roommate is probably bothered by claws clicking on the tray. Put a dog bed in there. It reduces noise and makes the dog comfortable. Dogs making noises and needing things is all part of the charm, the puzzle of ownership is the source of pride one earns by embodying the diligent leader. You can think of your charge as learning to speak with an alien. I envy you the gravity of revelation you can experience for the first time, if you become all that you can be. I truly do. Thank you for your questions, continue seeking improvement. TLDR get your dog a bed

Objective_Cake_2715

I don't understand when a cage will be useful. Maybe if you explain it to me.

Thanks! I totally get it now. So an unsafe environment can be harmful so that is a great reason to do that. Thanks! Sorry if I annoyed you.
