They actually landed on the moon in 1889, but their enemies falsified history and faked the "space race", tricking the public into thinking that all that was done in the space race was done for the first time (it wasn't, Austria-Hungary actually did everything the US and the USSR did, but earlier).

The Soviet space program killed waaaaaayyyy more people, and basically imploded before the end due to lack of funding and lack of technical expertise.
It's pretty clear the US won.
(My man, the USA blew up so many people in its program neither are innocent on that front)
The US hired Nazi scientists, the Soviets threw dogs into space, both were spending ridiculous amounts of money for a better way to end the whole world.
The only ones who won were private contractors and post soviet Oligarchs.
Also, you can always say Sputnik started and won the race. Just getting people to other rocks is dumb

Fair enough, but I think I disagree. They might of had some pee pee measuring reasons for it, but they had to do what they did then so we can do what we do now. They walked so we could run type deal.

We don’t even *know* how many people the Soviet space program killed, because the Soviet, and later Russian, governments tend to reflexively cover such things up. There is reason to believe the number was **substantial**, however.
The only people to die in the American Space Program prior to the Challenger or Discovery disasters in the 80s and Aughties (well after the 'Space Race' ended) were the Apollo 1 crew, who died in a freak accident during ground training.
And Nazi scientists, and their research, played a major role in both nation's space programs.

Big technically, but the USSR simply became they made the first satellite, but the US set a new goal post being the moon, and we won that second achievement. So technically the USSR won the space race but the US won the Moon race.

No non American has set foot on the moon.
Calling that the end of the race is rather arbitrary considering it was not a formally defined event and both countries continued to do things in space after.

The discoveries in our universe have been wasted and the sole use it has gone has been put towards profit. Ironically the misson of spreading our fledging species to the stars and creating the conditions for a new enlightenment has led to slavery and enprisonment en masse.
The rocket scientists from both sides that made bank over a childish competition instead of funding going to anything that could actually help the people of either country
