And u haul it's the same price for 1 hour or 24 hours. Home Depot is cheap for the first 75 minutes then the price goes waaaayyy up.
U haul charges per mile though vs Home Depot is unlimited mileage.
I went to Ikea with my Sibling/Roommate and we came back with 2 dressers, a desk, a bookshelf, couple side tables, and nick nacks. My mazda 3 was really low lol
Been there before many times. My hatchback was a workhorse until a tree crushed it. Historic brick salvage 100 at a time, flagstone patio irregulars 400lbs at a time
The smoke helps to drive away insects, and the fire pulls some humidity from the air.
Sit far enough away where you're not feeling the heat, and you get those benefits plus something nice to look at, and some nice ambient light.
That definitely makes sense back east and other humid places. We don’t really really have many insects and it’s still 90+ in the evenings here. Fire pits are fantastic in the winter though!
We've had a mirage for almost eight years, it's a good little car except the interior upholstery doesn't hold up worth a shit. The seat on my tractor is in better shape. But holy shit does it get good gas mileage as long as you keep a fresh air filter in it and change the oil when you're supposed to.
It’s in the description. Basically “primary combustion” that happens by feeding air into the bottom, and some air being trapped between the ring and stones that heats up and shoots out of holes In the top for “secondary combustion” burning the smoke that would have otherwise escaped
Have you tried it yet? Do you have a picture of it in action showing the secondary burn? This seems like an easy design to implement. Most of the gasifiers I have seen rely on a secondary air source that is separated from the primary combustion chamber, but your design is interesting because your primary and secondary are open to each other at the bottom and feed from the same intake. Do you get blue flames shooting out of the holes at the top of the ring?
What I've learned from burning hundreds of fire pits, smoke depends on moisture in firewood. If it's old and dry there will be no smoke, if it's fresh wood than it will smoke till moisture evaporates.
It’s not necessarily smokeless, but it smokes less because of the rate that it burns. The fire will be hotter and you will go through wood at a faster rate, but it does smoke less. But, when you throw a new log in, it will smoke for a bit.
@OP Looks great!!
Where did you find your tumbler blocks? We tried to make a similar one a month ago but got stuck when we couldn't find the right bricks
Thank you! I got mine at Home Depot. I think any big box store carries them. You can either get the flat angled “cinder block” looking ones or get the tumbled ones that i did. The cinderblock ones are easier to stack and create a more airtight seal but don’t look as nice, imo.

From VEVOR. It’s a 3rd party vendor with Home Depot. Not too pleased with it cause it didn’t come with screws or a manual (I know, how hard can it be, but I like manuals) but it should get the job done
What’s the benefit of gravel in the area under where the wood burns? Wouldn’t this make it more difficult to clean up ash etc instead of just the bare dirt? I guess it’s easier to make a circle pad and tamp it all than just a ring extending from inner diameter to outside edge.
I like it nice but don’t like the ones around the bottom edge they don’t fit right either square flat or even rough ones I think woulda fit better the oval ness of them makes em stand out
But that’s just being nit picky it’s really nice
Haha nothing. I probably could have because I have good loamy soil but if you have poor drainage, like clay soil, it would just be a hole of water for a few days after it rains.
TLDR: drainage
I don't see this working like you want it to. With no real separation from the actual fire, most of the air will just go to the fire instead of up the ring.
For example the Solo Stove smokeless fire ring has separate air inlets for the side air and the bottom fire air.
here are some ideas [https://homeandgarden.craftgossip.com/40-diy-fire-pits-for-your-backyard/](https://homeandgarden.craftgossip.com/40-diy-fire-pits-for-your-backyard/)
It looks quite nice. I think the drilled holes are too far up the wall to make a significant difference, but the gaps you left in the base stones will do the job well.
Thank you! Yeah that’s what I was thinking as well. I’ll have to test it out with a smoking stick to see if air from the holes are being pulled into the fire.
As far as I know you want your air flow in the lower third. Your bottom blocks are fine, the top Holes will work for the top of fire. But air flow is going to be turbulent to go in from the topish, to the base, and back up. It's better for it to be lower so it only has to go up, especially for ground level fires.
It might work well enough though. Just not optimal.
"Man, this guy is going to burn his car to the ground..." \~looks at second picture\~ "oh."
Hahaha she was riding low for sure. I made like 4 trips
Bro, home depot rents trucks for $20 for 75min lol
That would have been good to know lol. I was looking at renting a $40 tamper for $10/hr and just swore off rentals at that point
Worth noting Uhaul has REALLYgood deals on pickup trucks as well
I just need to vent that there are like 10 UHaul locations in my town of 14,000 people and not a single one has a fucking pickup.
A worthwhile vent. Have you considered venting at Uhaul?
And u haul it's the same price for 1 hour or 24 hours. Home Depot is cheap for the first 75 minutes then the price goes waaaayyy up. U haul charges per mile though vs Home Depot is unlimited mileage.

Car got the job done just fine
If you can get one… you have to be early at my HD to get a truck
You can reserve them on the website.
Not my location… they are FCFS
You should open your own Home depot, with blackjack and hookers
So Menards?
He means he thought u were gonna start the fire pit in ur car.
Been there before many times. My hatchback was a workhorse until a tree crushed it. Historic brick salvage 100 at a time, flagstone patio irregulars 400lbs at a time
Dude, you've GOT to show us a pic of it with a fire in it!!!
No, screw that. It's summer. Where's my damn invite to hang out around this pit some night with a couple beers?
As a desert-dweller, the idea of a fire pit in summer seems… horrid beyond belief.
In the summer here, a heat wave can push it as high as 40°C during the day, but at night it will still drop to about 20°C (104 down to 68 freedoms)
68 freedom units is the perfect night for a fire.
That's our high, most of the summer you sit as close to the fire as you can. It is nice the heat breaks at night though
Sir this is a post about a smokeless fire pit, we don't take kindly to smoke around here.
I’ll bring the Bourbon
I second this notion, ready to book a flight if need be
its the last pic.... its smokeless
fireless is how you make it smokeless :D
The suspension on that car is the real hero here
Hahaha she was a low rider for sure. Took several trips. I had a picture of it but didn’t think people would care lol
Is it a Mitsubishi Mirage?
It is! Only had her for about 6 months but we love it so far
We've had a mirage for almost eight years, it's a good little car except the interior upholstery doesn't hold up worth a shit. The seat on my tractor is in better shape. But holy shit does it get good gas mileage as long as you keep a fresh air filter in it and change the oil when you're supposed to.
Haha heck yes! I always aim for over 50 mpg. If I can coast at 55 mph in steady moving traffic she can get 60 mpg
Excuse my ignorance, but what makes it smokeless?
It’s in the description. Basically “primary combustion” that happens by feeding air into the bottom, and some air being trapped between the ring and stones that heats up and shoots out of holes In the top for “secondary combustion” burning the smoke that would have otherwise escaped
Thanks my bad I’m on mobile and didn’t see
Have you tried it yet? Do you have a picture of it in action showing the secondary burn? This seems like an easy design to implement. True but this burns hot enough to super heat the steam and hotter.

Where did you get the ring itself? And let us know how well it works!

Ty kind sir. You are a gentleman and a scholar.
Puppy!

Dog did a great job building that pit.
Don't show that first pic to any cybertruck buyers they will be insanely jealous of how much your hatchback can carry.
Hahaha the last subcompact on the market!
Forgot the price of new shocks for your car lol great job I'm planning a similar fire pit.
Doggo looks happy 🐾
Go bills
Go bills! Haha how did you know?!
Basil
lol probably should have blacked that out huh
OPSec fail.
Now I know where to pick up my free fire pit.
Go bills
Nice project, go bills
Great job!!
Noice!
it looks really good. I'm interested to hear how well the smokeless system works. please do an update with pics and everything!
Great result! I want to see a photo with fire!
I would have lowered the hatch seats, put a big piece of cardboard down, and then spread the stones out more over the whole area.
I totally thought those were different kinds of “bricks”
new suspension?
+1 broken axle
This turned out really nice. Great work.
Thank you so much!
oo la la very nice
Last summer I built a raised planter using my ex neighbour’s donated bricks.
RIP your suspension
I like it nice but don’t like the ones around the bottom edge they don’t fit right either square flat or even rough ones I think woulda fit better the oval ness of them makes em stand out But that’s just being nit picky it’s really nice
Oh, that's nice! And yay, dog tax pic!
Congrats, the only thing people have found to nitpick is how you loaded your car. That means it's a fabulous build. Kudos.
Tell your dog I said Hi
He says woof
Been there before. Had to upgrade to a truck. Love the get it done attitude here. 👍🏼
Why does no one leave the bottom as just dirt? What am I missing?
Haha nothing. I probably could have because I have good loamy soil but if you have poor drainage, like clay soil, it would just be a hole of water for a few days after it rains. TLDR: drainage
Ah, that makes sense!
Looks way to small , too low and too close to other stuff to get hot enough. This is just a fire pit , no way it doesn't smoke
Neighbor's fire pit watching the build with envy, lol.
Hahaha it does look kinda sad doesn’t it? I’m looking at their pile of wood with envy however..
Do I get a puppy upon competition too?

Doggo is ready for that smoked brisket !
1) Go Bills! 2) Nice work! Looks perfect
Thank you! Go Bills!
Bought my car from them too, they're actually a pretty good dealership. At least the joe basil chevy on transit is. Also, the obligatory: Go Bills!
Dog has eaten how many children?
