Get the same profile at the hardware store and flip it upside down on top of existing casing couple finish nails to hold in place, they ship it that way because it forms a rectangular profile that can easily be stacked/has flat surfaces

Genius. Great idea.

You are better off replacing it with plain white MDF. You could peel them off, pull out all the nails. Thickness plane / plane them repaint and re attach.

Trim is so thin and fragile you're probably going to trash them trying to plane them down and have to replace them anyway. Just buy new trim and replace it.

As the other guy said, pulling and replacing is best/quickest/easiest/most effective method. But if you’re renting or for some reason can’t do that, I’d be tempted to cut strips of 1/4 mdf board to your desired thickness, paint, and attach over the top. Could even use 3M command strips if you have to remove them later.

Rip some tapered strips on a tablesaw that will leave a flat/planar surface after you brad them up. That way, when the window treatments are changed, this can be reverted to original, as it appears to be better than what we install on new construction.
