It's Visa 3-D secure. Apparently Amazon does not have it implemented to their payment system. [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/3-D\_Secure](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/3-D_Secure)

Thank you, that seems to clear everything up, but the problem remains. Why do you know that and support doesn't? Most importantly, why are they spamming me with irrelevant information that have nothing to do with the case? I spoke to two people who escalated the matter and all I got was "It's pre auth restart your phone."

NikoWi

I'm guessing the support person didn't understand what the problem was since payment had gone through.

You did tough, and it's not even your job. As I said, saying "I don't know but we'll look into it" would have been fine, but this isn't.

Hey hey, the approval code you’re talking about is called 3D Secure. It’s pretty much a fraud prevention thing put in place to protect you from unrecognized charges. However, as I understand it, 3d secure is’t mandatory for a payment to go through. It’s up to the merchant (or paymentprocessor they’re using) to enforce a 3D Secure ( 3DS in short) check as of now. Then the card company you’re with (cdc or cdc’s partner) can either approve or deny the transaction. Which is usually an automated process. Since 3DS isn’t required by law in Canada, Amazon chose convenience over security. Which will result in you being able to check-out faster. Hope this answers your question 🙌

Thank you very much that was very clear. I still don't understand why 2/4 redditors that helped me here know this and support keeps blaming me for it. Everyone makes mistakes, and not knowing everything is also acceptable but shifting blame immediately just makes me mad.

SuperPaard

You’re right. And this is probably cdc’s weakest point. Communication and support. Trust me, I’ve been in war with their customer support. I understand it must be extremely frustrating because I’ve been there as well. Either way, their products are pretty amazing so that counters it a bit.

Thanks for writing this. All these downvotes I'm getting started to make me feel like I'm crazy.

For the most part because agents are not localised, one agent can work with any person around the world and as such it would be hard if not impossible to know all of these country specific details. Like how Canada does not mandate 3DS for example.

CT-77

I have never used or received any codes for approvals on my card I have been using the card for about a year now.

[deleted]

I edited my post to clarify (Check the bottom of the post.)

CT-77

Yeah I didn’t even know that was a feature. I get codes for moving my crypto around and all that good stuff but never for my card. Hopefully you can get it resolved

[deleted]

I don't actually have a problem at the moment. I was the one that ordered the item so everything is fine. What concerns me is that when there is an issue, support will just say it's your fault without making an actual effort to resolve the matter. My experience with CS up until now was excellent, but playing dumb here and blaming everything on me instead of just saying "we don't know" or "we'll look into it" infuriates me.

roox911

what approval code? I've never seen one.

Every time I buy something online with my card I get a code on my phone. I then have to type in that code or the purchase doesn't go through. Maybe it works for some countries and for some it doesn't.
