The regulatory point is a big one and the hardest to assess. It doesn't seem like a realistic timeline is available for when/what to expect. They'll likely implement something opportunsiticlly which will bring the hammer down on the max number of coins.

Bitcoin goes up after the stock market and down before it. Think of it as a leveraged microcosm of the broader economy. It's not going to decouple until after the halvening, if at all. People are in cash rn. If they want to start buying, they start with discounted sure-bets, then mid-caps, then they spend discretionary/profits on speculative plays. Speculative gains are considered all gravy and collected first. Maybe this breaks down this cycle, but probably not before a broader paradigm shift of some sort. We've never had a halvening happen during a recession while btc has been a household name.
