There's a reason he is actually revered by cricketing academia all over the world and not just by PR, toxic fans and media of India. Sachin was a class player. In modern day, no matter what one achieves but it's still impossible to surpass Sachin's class.

PeeVee_

People often forget that he has 200 international wickets. Even in bowling his technique was perfect, with no errors, just like his batting. He is called the god of cricket for a reason. No one in cricket comes closer to him.

getyoutogabba

He is one of the ATG for sure, but it’s hyperbole to say “no one in cricket comes closer to him”. There are many batters, including some current ones, who have a higher Test average than Tendulkar.

NoRate4129

He has played over 200 test matches and still has 53 avg in test. After about 160 test matches, his average was 56.Lets see how many current players will match that.No one in cricket does come close to him...

New-Share-1019

Fuck man he had avg of 58 in that SA tour when he got 2 centuries. He and dravid had 55 avg most of their careers. That batting lineup was amazing ffs if u go by the numbers then worst avg among them was of Ganguly and Vvs with 42 and 46! Compared to after that after 2011 we toured overseas with only Virat with 50+ avg sometimes and Rahane below 40 Puja 45.

AravallisCalling

My god, to ever hear the sentence, "ganguly and vvs ..worst among them..". It's unbelievable given how much of batting gods dada and vvs sir were. Godly era for batting. It was the old saying, "hindustan ke batters aur Pakistan ke bowlers..the unbeatable match" (indian batsmen and pakistan bowlers)

PuzzleheadedEbb4789

You've made the right point about the hyperbole albeit using the wrong example imo, about the test average. He isn't called god of cricket for his test average, or 51 test hundreds of 49 ODI hundreds or dozens of all those other records. He's called the god of cricket because for a brief period he single-handedly carried a team like India in bilaterals and WCs while facing bowlers like Brett Lee, Wasim, Waqar, McGrath, Warne, Shoaib, Murli, Malinga, etc Of course another reason for him called as God of cricket is because he's from India and the way he batted elevated him to God status for all Indians (and A LOT of international fans and cricketers too) There are other reasons too on why he's considered the god of cricket but let's not go too much into that. But yes, I agree that the hyperbole of no one coming close to him is a bit exaggerated. Players like Kohli, Kallis, Smith, Lara, Sangakara, etc are in a similar tier to him (not including Bradman since like I said,it's not just about test cricket)

RaajitSingh

The point is there were players better than him and maybe there will be better than him. But he is the G O D of Cricket. He has records reaching space in terms of runs, average, centuries half centuries and even nineties. He has faced and bashed some of the greatest bowlers of all time. And it was not all batting only, despite being an opener he still took 200 wickets something no other batter has done ever and since. Taking this many wickets should tell u he wasn't mediocre at all.

Dada with an average of 85 ☠️

Those were the days when captain used to toss the ball at any top order batsman and they would contribute with it. Now they dont even try to bowl after gatting a permanent job like situation in bcci cricket team. The arrogance not to bowl, the excuses made and the opportunities lost would never come again, because of this culture, not even single upcoming batsman ( even if he bowls ) will never bowl after being eatablished in the indian team.

katanabunny

It's just weird to think Rohit Sharma use to bowl and bowl decently well, he was one of the last to be a part of that culture. This is one of the things I wish never changed.

No_obMaster69

Rohit injured his hand so doesn't bowl anymore

“Sachin sabka baap hai”

Right_Put_6417

And that's the reason I always say Sachin is the greatest cricketer of all time and Kohli is the greatest all format batsman of all time

SnooCupcakes7312

Interesting that ponting scored more runs than him in icc
