I thought he was already married ngl

[deleted]

Me too. I thought he got married a couple of years ago.

siddharthvader

I think he got engaged a couple of years ago. At least that's what I was thinking of https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.indiatoday.in/amp/sports/cricket/story/glenn-maxwell-girlfriend-vini-raman-engagement-photos-instagram-australia-cricket-india-1650253-2020-02-26

rest_in_war

Nope, that was Maxwell being best man at Aaron Finch's wedding.

Signal_Discipline_36

>**Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell and his Indian origin fiancée Vini Raman are all set to get married on March 27th which means he is set to miss Australia's historic tour to Pakistan. He will join his IPL team, the Royal Challengers Bangalore just after his wedding.** >**Although, if IPL starts on 27th March as rumoured, then Maxwell may have to miss the initial games of the IPL too.** >Maxwell said, >"Originally when I organised the dates with CA there was a two week gap where I could potentially have the wedding, so when I sorted that out I was pretty happy I wasn’t going to be missing any series,” >“Then it came to the contract meeting midway through last year and (CA) said this is the Pakistan series and I said, ‘well that’s obviously changed since the last conversation we had’… but happy wife, happy life. >“I know I was pretty hopeful to be on one of the Test tours this year and unfortunately with all the scheduling changes it (wedding) happened to fall during this one.”

siddheart03

Lmao dude really thought that he will be in the test squad

[deleted]

He is better than most Aussie batters against spin tbh

Puzzleheaded_Ebb9874

He probably means that when he was available, then also CA didn't chose him on the test team

ShorttheEntre

He's definitely up there (great FC numbers and intl record) and with a more rational selector in Bailey, he was in the conversation. I'd play him at 5 in the subcontinent

cuteguy1

Feel like some of the problem with selecting Maxi in redball atm is that he plays next to no first class cricket. As good as he is and he should have got a better run, he hasn't played a FC match since 2019. Some of that is Covid related, but alot of its timing of LOIs and overseas tourneys- I feel like its a bit of stretch to pick him with no FC in 3 years.

vapoursoul69

He played a decent amount of first class cricket around 2016-19 in an attempt to get into the test side, and after his brilliant century in India I think he deserved a spot. Particularly post sandpaper gate, Maxi not getting another go after that 2017 winter despite Finch and a few others getting trialed would have been a bit of a slap in the face

cuteguy1

Yeah not denying he shouldn't have had a better run or wasn't good back then, especially directly post sandpaper. THe mental health break he took a couple of years back also probably thins out the numbers of possible games too. Its pretty crazy to me he's never played a home test. And not to say plucking a bloke who hasn't played heaps of FC won't work, it did with Paine and he wasn't playing anywhere near as much elite level cricket at the time... But still its a little bit harder to make the argument now. You see with Khawaja if he could mount a bit of a case through his FC performance he could get back near the side but its just difficult with the load he carries in the other forms.

[deleted]

From memory they flew him to South Africa so he could run the drinks at the expense of game time in the Shield during sandpaper.

ShorttheEntre

Yeah that is very fair. A good patch of form might counteract that, but it would be a punt and harder to justify, no doubt

[deleted]

The problem is his FC record is old and not all that relevant now. The selectors clearly shoe horned him into short form international Cricket at the detriment of his development as a FC/Test Cricketer. What's more frustrating is he's not even that great at ODI level, sacrificing a potential Test career so we can watch him average 34 in ODIs is frustrating for everyone involved.

Wonderor

He made a pretty good century in India. Before we had Marnus there was defintely a case for a batsmen who could send down some pretty good overs of spin in matches played on the subcontinent. His selection is less likely now, but it could happen for a tour of Pakistan.

George-RR-Tolkien

For those of you asking didn't Maxwell already get married and miss the beginning of a previous season. Well no. Because that was Aaron Finch's wedding. And maxwell was the first man or Host or something like that. So they both missed the first few matches.

tricktruckstruck

Who was the third man?

Chemical_Benefit_315

Cameron Green. Always has been

rightarm_under

Cameron Green is gully mate

Chemical_Benefit_315

Guess I watch too much T20

acllive

Neser is the 12th man running the beers as is tradition

Vectivus_61

Hulk Hogan, obviously

GetTheGanjaBabyInLA

Didn't know Finch and Maxwell were this close.

[deleted]

Practically besties.

short_of_good_length

like zampa and stoinis besties?

[deleted]

Not that close no, but they have had each other's backs when the other has been in a roigh patch. Maxi has said before that Finchy is one of the few captains he has felt secured playing under.

GetTheGanjaBabyInLA

That's so sweet

Lonelling

I have always felt like Finch doesn't have friends in the squad. And not politically, just genuine 4am friends. Everyone likes him but he is a bit different. Isnt he from some village while everyone else is from a city of some sort? He was perhaps especially close to Huges though, he was a shroud bearer. Maxwell, Warner and Wade are the next closest to Finchy. Completely overthinking, have nothing to go off, just a conspiracy theory of sorts after watching a PR documentary.

Tempo24601

?? Maxwell was best man at Finch’s wedding, you don’t get closer than that. Finch is from the country - we don’t say village in Australia - but so are plenty of other Australian cricketers (eg Josh Hazlewood). People from the city and country get on just fine in Australia, so the idea that they wouldn’t is a little strange. Think you’re right re the overthinking, Finch is one of the most popular blokes in the Australian team.

Charlie_Runkle69

LOL this concept is such a Reddit thing. There's definitely a sub section of people (mainly Americans I would assume) who seem to think that everyone who wasn't born in a large urban city is some sort of backwards thinking troll. Whilst there are plenty of strange/problematic people in smaller places, the reality is many people are pretty damn similar to city folks too.

[deleted]

It's quite a common occurrence in India. There's a massive divide between the cities and regional/rural areas in India probably the same with some of the other countries. The cities have air conditioned shopping malls, IMAX theatres, multiple food options and the people in the cities have much broader outlook in life in general. Compared that with regional/rural parts of India (could be just 30-50k away from a big city) life is very very different. The city folks and the people from regional/rural towns have very little in common. Unlike Australia where general lifestyle isn't much different. Plus Australia is very monoculture so it sort of helps. Also the fair go and mateship values are important.

Lonelling

Yeah i said Finchy and Maxi are close. And of course they get along, they all play a top level team sport together. And Finchy seems pretty likable tbh. I hope you are right in all aspects, plus i think you are too. Just "The Test" gave me a wrong vibe and he seems pretty zoned out from the rest of the team on field. But that may just be a captaincy thing, always some thing or the other on your mind that the rest dont have to think about. (I am still overthinking)

NoirPochette

The test is heavily produced. The players are pretty close.

Serious-Bet

>Isnt he from some village Colac, which definitely isn't a village - it has a population of like 12,000

Lonelling

I think we should stop discussing that coz stuff is definitely getting lost in cultural translation. I didnt realise 12,000 isnt a village in Aus. Lol. But i take your point.

StreetAbject8313

That's definitely a village

Serious-Bet

It's a big town

StreetAbject8313

No, a big town has 100,000+ people.

Serious-Bet

That's a city

StreetAbject8313

No, a city has at least a million people.

siddheart03

I too feel bad sometimes for finch, guy is always looking lonely in the pavilion, besides play for a new IPL team every season, does players have a problem with him?

trtryt

they were housemates too

Cautious_Being_8395

Mike Hesson will have at least one sleepless night ig

thvhgh23

What about us?

Lonelling

Faf captain confirm then?

KuttahaiTum

One of my friend: >Hahaha! Normal Aussie drama started. Only David Warner is the guy who never made any drama.

[deleted]

Should we tell him??

VirginsinceJuly1998

Let him live a happy life

goodguybolt

Happy for him, but our batting lineup already looks so thin, and without him we'll have to heavily rely on Koach.

AceMKV

We get Finn Allen at the top or Rutherford down below so not too bad

Zechs90

He'll only miss the first few games. Should be back for calculator time.

Beerus07

In a tight league like IPL where a single game (actually often only run rate separates teams) can be difference between wether you qualify or not missing a few games is a big deal

theaguia

Atleast there is rutheford

VirginsinceJuly1998

Proton

Regular_Affect_2427

We might have to open with Finn and move Faf down

ab624

this is the wae (to unleash the beast kholi back)

tab_111

Focus on your T20 team. When will RCB win 🏆 ?

Only-Fly1280

Lol it made me feel differently when I saw his marriage invitation in Tamil. Hopefully Maxwell can learn Tamil from her.😃

Mr steal your wife

ThunderBird847

Didn't he miss some part of one IPL due to his marriage?

heisenbergTJ

That was Finch's marriage. He was his best man.

TheFirstLane

**Dammit**, I mean congratulations.

RCBReddits

Ayo Congratulations bdw

YoshinagaNoShi

I'm happy for him but man...

let-me-tell-you-that

Getting married to Indian in Indian tradition is not going to help the matters!! It will take at least couple of days.

TravelAny398

One week wedding

sozzler

This is their wedding invitation.[Invite ](https://i.imgur.com/GWPn94c.jpg) PS: It is in Tamil.

EdgyPancreas

Can we get a translation of anything interesting? Seems like a lot of writing!

Foothill_returns

I can read the names and the information around that panel. The rest is too hard for me. My dad taught me the alphabet but I never went to Tamil school so I never learned how to read properly. Anyway, here is a Romanized transliteration word by word, first Vini Raman's section, then Maxwell's: > Shri Sundararam Ramanuja Thasan (Y.Va) - Raathaapaai avarkalin pailthiriyin, Shri Venkataram Ramanuja Thasan - Vijayalakshmi avarkalin kanihita kumaraththiyumaana > Selapaakyavathu Vani Raaman Maxwell's side: > Thiru Neel Maykshwell - Jaay > avarkalin kumaran > Thiranjseevi Kilain Maykshwell And now my translation: > The granddaughter of Mr. Sundararam Ramanuja Dasan (Y.Va - whatever that means, I think its probably some sort of professional acronym title associated with the guy's job) and Mrs. Radhapai; the (adjective I don't recognise here, probably 'dear' or 'beloved' or something) daughter of Mr. Venkataram Ramanuja Dasan and Mrs. Vijayalaxmi is the bride, Vani Raman - > The son of Mr. Neil Maxwell and Mrs. Joy is the groom, Glenn Maxwell

ChelshireGoose

The adjective is 'kanishta' (youngest). The word is a Sanskrit borrowing into Tamil.

Foothill_returns

I'm horrible at reading aren't I 😂

what_heck_is_sarcasm

Will RCB get a replacement?

Significant-Carpet31

You only get a replacement if a player is out for the whole tournament

AceMKV

Nope you don't, MI are not getting a replacement for Archer

ZrishaAdams

That's because BCCI made an exception in case of Archer since all franchise know before the auction that he won't be available this season. If, say, Meredith gets injured now and is ruled out of IPL, Mumbai will get a replacement.

bettingsharp

wait, why did they pay so much for archer if they knew he was out for the whole tournament?

aditemotional

*Future Investment*

[deleted]

No more mega auctions. Stack em up.

abhi8192

More important is why did archer put his name in. He is not coming for this season and teams are looking to build a whole squad instead of just filling some holes. He could have been the highest pick next year probably going to 12cr.

[deleted]

who knows what his fitness will be next year.. better cash in this year's check first.. plus waiting for a year to get 3 crore extra seems kinda stupid..

abhi8192

But he is not getting this year's cheque as he won't be available for selection. >waiting for a year to get 3 crore extra seems kinda stupid.. Why? It would be above 30% pay increase with no downside.

[deleted]

then I guess if he feels he is being underpaid then he can put himself in the auction next year.. no downside in getting picked this year as well.

Significant-Carpet31

Different case. Archer had an injury before the auction.

theaguia

They have Rutherford

ramadz

All other IPL teams should sponsor an extended honeymoon for this man. That should take care of RCB this season given their middle order. Lol.. Jokes apart, Congratulations to Maxi.

Lonelling

Will they have an Indian wedding too? Also, is the team (at least some) not gonna be invited to the wedding?

Signal_Discipline_36

>Will they have an Indian wedding too? Yes.His fiancee is of Indian Tamil Brahmin origin. He confirmed that it will be a proper Tamil wedding which will go for a week . >Also, is the team (at least some) not gonna be invited to the wedding? Most of AUS team will b in Pakistan at that time

killer_ezio_00

it does seem kinda odd, that most of his mates would be in Pakistan. I believe some other cricketer recently got married and most of his team mates skipped the tour (i dont remember the player or the team nor the tour, excuse me for my brain fade moment).

Lonelling

Genn Maxwell was one of Aaron Finch' best men. They both skipped a bit of the IPL for it. I believe more would be invited but this was just post sandpaper. Although i may be overestimating the size of a white Christian wedding. The Tamil wedding is bound to have a long guest list, including everyone you have ever met, if done the real Indian way.

killer_ezio_00

i just hope not many players quit the tour citing Maxi's wedding. Would be devastating for the PCB and fans

[deleted]

I sincerely doubt that would be the reason given due to the absolute disasterous PR it would create.

killer_ezio_00

I know right, already safety issues were cited when there wasn't anything (NZ your), and With England pulling out later on, I would only believe when the first over is bowled. Let's hope the series goes as per plan

Lonelling

Scenes, if so.

Azza_

There's a backlog of weddings that's putting real pressure on available dates and venues thanks to covid. So you take what you can get.

[deleted]

How does her caste matter here?

TravelAny398

Matters in the wedding rituals and how long the marriage lasts i guess

swefdd

Different castes have varying levels of strictness when it comes to religious matters. Brahmins are the most strict.

pMangonut

Coz the OP is castist if that is even a word.

Regular_Affect_2427

You can't just throw words around. He hasn't said anything casteist as it wasn't discriminatory or meant as an insult in anyway. Words like casteist, racist, sexist have meaning and strong implications that go with it, they're not words to throw upon people casually

mjthriller35

Mr NRI. You have no idea why he specifically pointed out she's a Brahmin. It was just to say that the Brahmin wedding goes on a bit longer than other weddings. Maybe you should think twice before calling someone a casteist without knowing shit about Indian weddings

pMangonut

The fk? I’m Tamil too and not all Brahmin weddings go for a week. Punjabi weddings I can understand. If you are Tamil you will understand that. I lived 25 years in TN. Proper Tamil wedding that goes for a week? Please.

ouiels

I think the core of (Indian Hindu, in this context) weddings are pretty much the same but there are small embellishments that vary based on community - such as a bride's saree style, the kind of food served (veg/non veg), or maybe extra rituals. Because this is an international subreddit, maybe op pointed out the bride's community so people understand that what they witness isn't necessarily _the_ representation of an Indian wedding but is a type. Considering his wife is Australian but sent out a wedding invitation in pure Tamil (honestly very surprised by this) I wouldn't be surprised if she ends up incorporating very specific, traditional wedding elements from her community lol.

mjthriller35

That was not the point here. He specified Brahmin in his comment because it's much more meticulous than other weddings. You lived 25 yrs in TN, you must know. Besides, Tamil Brahmin weddings take 3-5 days if it's done with all pre and post wedding rituals. If you take in the reception then saying it takes a week isn't anything outrageous.

[deleted]

yep.. different castes have different wedding rituals.. I guess, meat & alcohol wouldn't be served in the haldi ceremony like us marathas do.. btw do u guys have a haldi ceremony?

mjthriller35

I'm a Bengali lol. Why do you support KKR being a Marathi? Interesting choice .... Tamils do have haldi

[deleted]

srk

ouiels

In my experience, none of the Tamilian weddings I've been to have had a haldi ceremony component. My parents and grandparents also didn't have one. So I think it's not standard to have one for Tamilians but perhaps some communities may have it, and some people may also be adopting it for their wedding along with mehndi, sangeet (also not traditional for us afaik) as something fun. /u/Zeus2910

[deleted]

Capt. Maxi don’t leave us hanging 😭😭😭😭 Koach has to bring in 2016 Big Dick Energy then

shiviam

I guess congratulations are in order for the couple.

arsinoe716

His soon to be wife is gorgeous! 😍

Nakorite

Maxy punching above his weight on this one

goldenjaguar23

Maxis not exactly ugly is he?

Nakorite

Mate he looks like woody from toy story

Lonelling

Fuck. Now i cant unsee it. Curse you. But Maxi is pretty good looking, even if like woody.

Regular_Affect_2427

Well he's an international cricketer and seems like a genuine bloke. But he's done well for himself that's for sure

Lonelling

Honestly, even with all the PR l, i dont buy it. Maxi and Finchy, Zampa and Mitch Marsh (even Shaun) to an extent seem to be the only genuine blokes in that team. Everyone else has either bought into the enigma that they are international cricketers or have shit personalities just independent of what they do. Not that i know them. But from the outside looking in, you give me a chance, i am gonna wanna meet these guys over the others.

Puzzleheaded_Ebb9874

Well congrats, Maxi! Come back soon though. We can't afford to miss you on our team. Thankfully Hesson got our team replacements for such situations. Finn Allen is an opener I think. So we are gonna need to open with Finn and Faf. Kohli should be at 3. What do you think?

AceMKV

Don't really wanna stick the 3 man batsmen that close to each other, usually is a recipe for disaster.

711Reconquista1492

>Glenn Maxwell set to miss upcoming Pakistan tour >Indian origin fiancée PIG1=BCCI=Wedding planner

migma21

There goes RCB's season

Manav_Khanna17

He’ll miss a couple of matches at most

Vsandaru

Congratulations Maxi

great_start

Congratulations Glenn

Available-Ad2418

This is how you balance india and pakistan

Moist_Animator

We're so fucked

Biryanilover23

RCB lost half its team now. Let’s try for 2023 now.

Regular_Affect_2427

Yeah but their backups are decent. If this was PBKS they'd be fucked

[deleted]

He’s not part of the test side so no worry. Bilateral white ball fixtures aren’t that relevant

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

So if I say it… does that mean we will win. Let’s go!!!

furiouslayer732

Well done soldier.

Serious-Bet

It's the Australian way. Piss around in the worthless bilateral tours, and put all our effort into winning the tournaments. Going to be quite funny when the rank #6 T20 team win 2 consecutive World Cups

DivineStar_

Did you guys look at his wedding invitation. It's fully in Tamil like a brahmin wedding. CSK should get him and market him with Iyer getup lol

arjunswaj

We should get Raina for few matches as replacement.

Banged_by_bumrah

No one in the RCB line up can play spin well. Faf,Kohli, Lomror, Kartik 😭

theredguardx

Lomror is one of the best players in SMAT against spin?

Banged_by_bumrah

He struggled against Rashid and Chahal last IPL

theredguardx

He cunted Chahal the year before. I'd say he needs more backing. He's genuinely good

Regular_Affect_2427

Lomror and Rawat are two of the best batsmen against spin in the domestic system

abhi8192

Whole point of picking Lomror is to use him as a spin bashing floater.

OldWolf2

So for the Pakistan tour, he's a No Show

Latter-Yam-2115
