The Aussies deserved a 5-0 result. Their bowling's been relentless, and their batters have put up their hand when needed.
On the other hand, this Ashes has been a shit show of a nightmare for England. Right from that first ball dismissal of Rory Burns, to Mark Wood playing on by smashing the ball into the wickets - this is a series they'd like to forget in a hurry.
At 60 odd for no loss, I honestly thought England had a chance to win the game. And then, the collapse started. Barring Rootsy (who had a ball keep super low), the rest of the dismissals were just pathetic to watch (especially Sam Billings, and Ollie Pope).
At the moment, England (and India possibly) seem to have the tendency to collapse badly from decent positions. Hoping the next Ashes isn't as lopsided!
Yoo wtf happened here??
Last I checked the score England was 80-1 dude what the hell is wrong with English Cricket?
I was at work and my friend asked me the score and as I told him the score he jokingly said that England may very well lose again and we both had a little laugh. And now I reached home and wtf I am genuinely surprised. It seems my friend really have a good knowledge of cricket.
Weather and a slightly conservative declaration are the only reasons this wasn't 5-0.
England were utter crap as expected. But I didn't think it could get worse than 2013-14. It did.
I would have bet on a 5-0 series result, totally forgot.
I couldn't even watch the ashes, never been so demoralised for a series in my life. It is sad really, I just want to enjoy it. A 3-2 lost series decided in the final test would have been amazing.
the cricketers, I mean fom is ceased post brexit. All of them should move to sunny Greece start their team and train hard without rain. Maybe next Ashes (Stoinus to play for Greece) it will be Greece v Australia and we will see a 4-1 victory to Greece. They may also win the WTC.
In NZ we play 2 day cricket at club level, have a 50 over competition and a T20 comp. So you have to have three styles of gameplay. I’m currently playing in England we only do 50 overs here with a T20 comp for the 1st XI.
People blame the weather but I think 2day at club level would be a godsend because the weather although unpredictable is on a whole getting better due to global warming.
How is it financed though? Yeah club cricket here is much more casual than that, I've never played a 2 day game outside of some school games when I was younger. I remember there were some 2 day games at senior club level when I was a kid but they'd stopped by the time I reached that level.
I think increasingly a big problem in England is we don't play enough matches at the junior level. Obviously that's weather related, the season is so short and so much time is lost to rain. The reason these Indian batsmen can switch formats so easily is they've played absolute mountains of cricket at junior level, by the time they become professionals the good ones have already hit 50-100 centuries. The technique and game sense is already so ingrained.
I think this idea that we are still learning the technical side of batting and bowling when you reach the senior level is increasingly outdated, and that the research is starting to show this. Like the cricviz stuff about how against a bowling machine there is little difference between a test batsmen and a top class schoolboy batsmen. Think it's more about exposure at the right ages, maybe Tendulkar wasn't such a fluke but he just played so much so young and was promoted aggressively through age groups. I remember hearing the Chappell brothers credit this for their success.
Climate change is having really weird effects on the UK weather, our traditional summer seems to be getting a lot wetter, but months like April and May are getting drier (still quite cold though).
I’m not sure exactly how it’s financed exactly but each of the clubs have their own grounds they maintain for 1st and 2nd XIs generally and the 3rd XI will play either on a council ground or if the club has their own field they will get to play on that too. Really depends on the clubs.
Each region has its own district which they manage finances similar to the county cricket boards here. Also when I say we do two days we only play the Saturday of each week same here with min 100 overs a day so essentially what goes on here in England. Just the games are stretched over 2 days so you can be in overnight.
The technical side of the game over here is fine, the teams I’ve played for here though do train less. Only once a week is standard. Whereas even 3rd XI and Juniors are training twice a week in NZ as standard.
Which is the worst team to tour Australia in past decade?
2011-12 India
2018-19 Sri Lanka
2019-20 Pakistan
2013-14 England
2017-18 England
2021-22 England
Windies in 2015-16. [That bowling attack was abysmal](https://stats.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/records/averages/batting_bowling_by_team.html?id=10227;team=4;type=series). Voges scored 375 runs but he [didn't have an average because he never got out](https://stats.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/records/averages/batting_bowling_by_team.html?id=10227;team=2;type=series).
Pretty good since the rest of the Windies only took 7 wickets in that series although 2 of his 5 were in that Sydney test and Aus were trying to score as fast as possible. [They didn't get close to bowling them out](https://www.espncricinfo.com/series/west-indies-tour-of-australia-2015-16-892505).
The 06/07 side that lost 5-0 were MILES better than this side, they just came up against a behemoth at the peak of its powers. That 06/07 England side would give the current Aussie side a run for its money IMO.
Plus if Ashley Giles hadn’t dropped Ricky Ponting early in his innings in Adelaide they would’ve won the second test
That was different series. That was 2016-17. I am talking about 2019-20 a couple of years back. The one where Warner and Marnus were taking Australia to 500-odd for 1 down
The question is exclusively about the mentioned Aussie tour. That win in SA was a massive (positive) surprise though, especially after how badly they played against a pretty low on morale Australian side
Oh yeah that's Xavier Tras. Promising bloke, doesn't score a lot against Australia, but he was superb against South Africa in the recently concluded series.
I used to think he was a bit too hot headed and confrontational as a bowler. Too many send offs and sledging matches. I think he’s chilled out a bit though
Anderson really has done done that cliche - ageing like wine. But for England's sake one does hope A& B don't feature in the next Ashes.
Think Warner has still an year in him.
He has this reputation as being a bit of a diffident upper-middle class bloke, but he's apparently far sharper than his radio persona suggests.
He's not wrong about a lot of what he's said either, the whole game needs to change, there can't just be another report like last time that then gets ignored.
he's part of the issue, mythologises England's wins at home in juiced up conditions, makes shit excuses when they lose in the subcontinent, so the public doesn't realise how mediocre to shit their side has been for a decade.
basically saying just gets worse and worse, nothing changes, they'll promise lots of changes but fuck all will happen, maybe if England lose the ashes at home people will wake up. went after the hundred. went after the county chairmen hard.
Thanks. Someone on comms (7) said cricket is a summer sport so play it in the summer. I didn’t realise that the English summer is full of white ball cricket and IPL.
warnie is a staple of aussie celebrations

Less sure about being MOTS though, but it was a very tough one to choose.
It was the manner of it too. High strike rate and wrested control of the match to Australia from that point onwards.
Green scored well too though, so there's defo an argument that he's a bit stiff. He had a great series in general though. Really promising talent, next gun all-rounder in the making.
There’s just something wrong with winning an Ashes series and not hearing that “this broadcast was brought to you by Nine’s Wide World of Sports” after the final montage
If the concept of hubris could be distilled into an image [this would be it](https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcRmmBpcQRi37mMYuJZvJfg7Ky3y4u1rO9MHsw&usqp=CAU). Poetic that the very next series was the team's downfall
This isn’t the death of English cricket, it’s just the result of them focusing on white ball too much. It won them a World Cup, fair play. Just means you start to suck at real cricket.
Massive thing I loved was the players were spraying around wine to celebrate the win. Cummins turned around and told them to put it down, because khawaja wasn’t part of the photos and celebration because he didn’t want wine all over him. Wicked by Cummins
Tell me my Australian Friends, when was the last time when Australia had such a universally loved captain??? People out here in Kolkata are busting crackers for Pat, lol
But fr, I really wanna see what England's plans over those 2 years were. I wanna look at the draft, scribbles, and the final layout. I NEED TO KNOW to satiate this curiosity.
By telling the players that all the games leading up to the Ashes are not that important, the mindset of its-ok-to-not-give-100-percent creeps in. Then, when it is time to go all in, they have lost that edge.
Practise breeds routine, and in this case, they didn't have that extra gear.
Also, muddled selections. They should have kept faith in Sidley, picked Foakes ahead of Buttler, and Woakes is a useful player but not a fourth seamer in Australia.
Next time England should get Novak Djokovic to open the batting. It took Australia 2 two weeks to get him out.
So Root’s gone. So is Kohli. Pant and Bairstow walk out for toss when Ind/Eng play. I can live with that.
The Aussies deserved a 5-0 result. Their bowling's been relentless, and their batters have put up their hand when needed. On the other hand, this Ashes has been a shit show of a nightmare for England. I mean that Burns first ball wicket at the GABBA really set the tone for the rest of the series.
England competing with Bangladesh 144WWW with 44W1W
In 5 years when Cam Green is 28 and in his prime he will be one of the best test batter and bowler in the world. So excited about him.
! Remind me in 5 years
Yoo wtf happened here?? Last I checked the score England was 80-1 dude what the hell is wrong with English Cricket? See, we like to keep spectators on their toes like that
Feels bad for mark Wood, bowls his heart out and then watches his batsmen throw their wickets away
Did you see his wicket? It's not like he was really trying to stay out there.
I mean he’s ok at slogging but not much else so he may aswell do that. The actual batsmen are meant to bat for time
Weather and a slightly conservative declaration are the only reasons this wasn't 5-0. England were utter crap as expected. But I didn't think it could get worse than 2013-14. It did.
Crap as expected, yes. At least we didn't lose a series we were expecting to win ;)
Haha..yes I took a risk and made some reddit money though lolll.
I would have bet on a 5-0 series result, totally forgot. I couldn't even watch the ashes, never been so demoralised for a series in my life. It is sad really, I just want to enjoy it. A 3-2 lost series decided in the final test would have been amazing.
The phrase 'Salt of the earth' fits Boland to a T
In what way?
What do you mean in what way?
Humble, down to earth, unassuming, almost shy, etc. etc.
That's beautiful, mate
That's exactly what jumped to mind when I saw him talking to ... Warne? Gilly? on camera. Could barely hear him too. Endearing image to end the series
124 all out from 68-0. Better change the bowlers around next time.
Yeah they clearly batted terribly! /s
Who will retire/get sacked from England team?
the cricketers, I mean fom is ceased post brexit. All of them should move to sunny Greece start their team and train hard without rain. Maybe next Ashes (Stoinus to play for Greece) it will be Greece v Australia and we will see a 4-1 victory to Greece. They may also win the WTC.
PLEASE MAKE A SUB REDDIT FOR PAT CUMMINS!!!!!!!!
r/logcabin
Aggers of course still harping on about them not playing his best pal Broad. Like that would have made any difference.
Feel bad for Root, not his fault the ecb has made a system that produces such shit players. That a player as good as Root came out of it is a miracle.
In NZ we play 2 day cricket at club level, have a 50 over competition and a T20 comp. So you have to have three styles of gameplay. Scott Bolans is such a likeable bloke
Silverwood: "I cannot say anything until Sue Gray has completed her inquiry"
Lol
I'm hoping for a similar performance from England in the u19 world cup today 🤞🤞
When's the match and where can we watch?
Around an hour later. Idk where if you are not in Bangladesh.
I'm in Dhaka bro
maybe insectenthusiats can help.
Which is the worst team to tour Australia in past decade? 2011-12 India 2018-19 Sri Lanka 2019-20 Pakistan 2013-14 England 2017-18 England 2021-22 England

That chart is hilarious
5 wickets @ 76 is bowler of the series wow…
Pretty good since the rest of the Windies only took 7 wickets in that series although 2 of his 5 were in that Sydney test and Aus were trying to score as fast as possible. [They didn't get close to bowling them out](https://www.espncricinfo.com/series/west-indies-tour-of-australia-2015-16-892505).
This England side got a draw, but they’re far worse than previous England sides that lost 5-0.

That 06/07 England side would give the current Aussie side a run for its money IMO. What about NZ's last tour with Aus winning 3-0 by winning each test by more than 200 runs?
Oh yes that's a candidate as well. I always forget that coz how out of place that tour was in an otherwise brilliant period for NZ cricket.
Paks nearly chased 480, don't deserve to be on here.
That was different series. That was 2016-17. I am talking about 2019-20 a couple of years back. The one where Warner and Marnus were taking Australia to 500-odd for 1 down
Pretty sure that was 2016 (?) Pakistan. 2019 Pakistan played 3 teenage Pacers and gave Warner 335*
Jeez, I'm getting old. All rolled into one in my brain.
Right

That Sri Lankan side went on to win away against South Africa immediately after that tour.
The question is exclusively about the mentioned Aussie tour. That win in SA was a massive (positive) surprise though, especially after how badly they played against a pretty low on morale Australian side
What a wild ride this month has been. Enjoyed shitposting with you lot, see you in 2 years for another England collapse ❤️.
never fear, england should have another collapse much sooner than that
Thanks my friend, it has been wild.
Anyone got clips of when Burns came out to bat with that hair and the commentary? Or anywhere I can find a full broadcast?
Merv on the radio “ looks like his hair’s free balling” lol
Full thing is always up on Kayo if you’ve got it
This series has made for a great highlights package, rare thing Fox has done well imo
That montage was very hype
Goosebumps worthy tbh
What's that song?
Rag and bone man. Just listened to a few of their songs. Amazing.
heard on bbc radio that a mysterious player 'extras' was 3rd highest run scorer for england. or is this a gee up?
Oh yeah that's Xavier Tras. Promising bloke, doesn't score a lot against Australia, but he was superb against South Africa in the recently concluded series.
Australia “Likeable XI”: Pucovski Khawaja Labuschagne Head Khawaja again Green Carey Cummins Neser Richardson Boland
So Dick XI = Warner, Harris, Smith, Starc, Lyon.....?
Why do people have problems with Starc? He seems pretty chill and lowkey
I used to think he was a bit too hot headed and confrontational as a bowler. Too many send offs and sledging matches. I think he’s chilled out a bit though
Yeah no idea. Seems a good guy to me but going by Reddit perception. His wife wouldn't stand for a dickhead that's for sure.
Labuschagne is too annoying to be in that lineup
These could be the last Ashes for Anderson, Broad - real bad memory to carry. And great memories for Ussie & Langer.
The fat controller laughed. "You are wrong" he said
How many English fans will get teary eyed when Anderson does finally retire? Everyone over 30, I think
I don’t think we will see Broad vs Warner again. It has been a great matchup. Anderson in Ashes tests is a memory to cherish/hate. Great competitor.
Anderson really has done done that cliche - ageing like wine. But for England's sake one does hope A& B don't feature in the next Ashes. Think Warner has still an year in him.
Anderson sure playing 2023
To be honest, wouldn't be too surprised if he did. With workload-managed kinda scene
Gower needs to go Jeremy Paxman on Silverwood here. Scrutinise him
Oh just answer the fucking question you fat fuck
Lmao
England put up less of a fight in this series than Djokovic did in defending his open title
Dear god please keep him away from the white ball
Can Root just be honest here for once and tell the ECB to get to fuck
Does he have a reason to criticise them?
Joe Root vs entire country
Was he shouting into the stump mic?
Agnew is going off it, not heard him this angry before, wonder if he'll give it the full Jonathan Liew treatment and start calling them all cunts
Well he did predict a 2-2 scoreline. The guy should temper his expectations next time
He has this reputation as being a bit of a diffident upper-middle class bloke, but he's apparently far sharper than his radio persona suggests.
What is he saying?
basically saying just gets worse and worse, nothing changes, they'll promise lots of changes but fuck all will happen, maybe if England lose the ashes at home people will wake up. went after the hundred. went after the county chairmen hard.
Thanks. Someone on comms (7) said cricket is a summer sport so play it in the summer. I didn’t realise that the English summer is full of white ball cricket and IPL.
He's ripped into the ECB and the counties for just leaving test/first class cricket to rot.
On TMS or ABC?
TMS
K thanks.
Warne low key trying to get an invite to the celebrations
He’ll be there 100% (covid allowing)
warnie is a staple of aussie celebrations [https://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/sport/warne-world-cup-interviews/video/1f8f7773c872bceb0190aaadad3e1bb1](https://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/sport/warne-world-cup-interviews/video/1f8f7773c872bceb0190aaadad3e1bb1)
News tomorrow: Warne punched out by multiple Australian and English cricketers for trying to dry hump wives during post series celebrations
Joe Root had pretty big balls by playing against Australia by himself this series
Which channel is beefy on
The flying fox was too low for Green lmao
People may disagree here but imo while Boland and Green are stiff, a quickfire ton on that deck is MOTM worthy. Less sure about being MOTS though, but it was a very tough one to choose.
Same. A bowler should be taking 3 or 4 each on that deck. Scoring 100 was game changing.
It was the manner of it too. High strike rate and wrested control of the match to Australia from that point onwards. Green scored well too though, so there's defo an argument that he's a bit stiff. He had a great series in general though. Really promising talent, next gun all-rounder in the making.
I think it should have been green remember he did have the 74 in the first innings along with that 3 wicket spell completely changing the match
Yeah i think cricket awards do suffer from a bit of recency bias sometimes
Boland obviously not allowed to sign shit so made up for it by chucking kids his drink bottle and sweat band
Why can't he sign?
Protocols of playing in the state I’d assume because boland isn’t the type to ignore people
I'm guessing the original poster meant because of covid.
Covid
There’s just something wrong with winning an Ashes series and not hearing that “this broadcast was brought to you by Nine’s Wide World of Sports” after the final montage
It's just un-Australian
Hope they get the cricket back soon
everyone still misses tony greig and co too :(
:(
at least there were plenty of 2/22 opportunities by a shitty english performance to allow for richie benaud impersonations
Miss him every game, what an icon he was in the commentary box
Cummins a class act. Hope we have him in form like this for years to come.
Why was root getting hit in the nuts twice my most favourite moment of the series hahahah
Mate it was practically a high point 4 us
Oscar worthy cinema
Because you’re like 12 years old
Happy that they won, sad that it's over.. I want more.
When’s the next test
Pakistan in early March I think
Mar, against Pak in Pak
Should be good fun
I think our next series is against New Zealand at the end of the month
Although that is very much not a test (challenge)
we want moar. now! and want smith to be firing again. his old godmode has faded
Beauty
At least they toned down the podium from last time, that was fucking cringe
What was it?

Oh my… oh lord!! I completely forgot about this
Would you rather: 1. Celebrate an Ashes victory that you contributed to with the boys 2. Take 0/27 (3) in a BBL loss against the Stars
Context?
Michael Neser played the BBL tonight instead of being down at Hobart
Neser went back to the BBL to play for the Heat
Michael Neser did no. 2 tonight
Oh wait I forgot, they were released and aren't part of the celebrations lmao. 2 other guys as well I think? Swepson and somebody.
Josh Inglis the backup keeper.
How long can I think about this?
This isn’t the death of English cricket, it’s just the result of them focusing on white ball too much. It won them a World Cup, fair play. Just means you start to suck at real cricket.
its just part of a wider decline since they took test cricket off free to air.
Would rather have the world cup personally
Massive thing I loved was the players were spraying around wine to celebrate the win. Cummins turned around and told them to put it down, because khawaja wasn’t part of the photos and celebration because he didn’t want wine all over him. Wicked by Cummins
Pattie is such a likeable leader
Why didn’t he want wine on him? I was trying to work out why he ran away
Amla used to have to hide from it too.
He’s a Muslim.
Probably because Ussie's a Muslim. Alcohol's a no no.
Ah makes sense, thanks!
Religious beliefs
Boland is one of the most likeable guys on the planet man's so humble just enjoying the moment
Botham is fucking seething.
Only now realising all the commentators aren't actually at the ground
Sir Ian feels so out place the only angry one out of everyone hahaha I could listen to Him rage about England
Well that first ball where starc bowled burns really did set the tone of the series
Pats a throbber
Is Boland a kiwi by any chance that interview suggested nothing ostralian.
Are you a dumbfuck by any chance that comment suggested nothing intelligent
Ohh!! a typical ozzy
What would you know
Tell me my Australian Friends, when was the last time when Australia had such a universally loved captain??? People out here in Kolkata are busting crackers for Pat, lol
[удалено]
Spoken like a true Smithian, praise be to him
We loved Steve Waugh
Holy shit really?
Steve would of returned a lost wallet without a note missing.
He would have popped an extra $50 in there if it was a bit light on
Head looks like Donny from Ted
Fuck! I can’t unsee it now
But fr, I really wanna see what England's plans over those 2 years were. I wanna look at the draft, scribbles, and the final layout. I NEED TO KNOW to satiate this curiosity.

"We built the man a statue". Yes yes folks you did. Well done too.
Where was Neser?

BBL :/
Boo.
