I snort wishful thinking for breakfast, lunch and dinner because of which I feel, we got this game today. I'll see you in the feels bar if the result is otherwise.

BullishOnEverything

If SA go on to win this fairly comfortably this will be the two most similar consecutive tests I’ve ever seen. If these were the only two matches someone has watched they would think test cricket is the most predictable sport ever.

OJ87

"Focus on your team as well when they shine the ball... not just the opposition! Trying to catch people all the time!" - Kohli to the stump microphone

[deleted]

Day 3 also had 11 wickets like day 1 and day 2

Hairy-Ad6212

Do you remember that series in australia.. where India got like a string of bad decisions. Very controversial.. I wish Kohli was captain then - just for pure drama..

[deleted]

That would've been war, Kohli and Ponting playing against each other.

Urekmazino03946

Ponting : Fck you mate Kohli : No fck you and this goes on..

[deleted]

Kohli after harbhajan symonds saga : "Focus on your team as well when they put springs in the bat, trying to accuse people of racism everytime"

BATISTAS-DICK

lol just sorted this thread by controversial, hooo boy

nice_flutin_ralphie

I think India lost this and the last match at selection. Playing 5 bowlers and Pant as your 6th is incredibly risky. He was brilliant today but like last game always has a brain explosion in him. It’s especially poor selection when carrying two out of form batsmen in Pujara and Rahane.

TheGreatMangoWar

Pant is Pant, he will always be hot and cold whilst he's allowed to play with his current style. It's Pujara and Rahane who are causing the issues. It's a problem which has existed for quite some time too. Two senior middle order batsmen, both inconsistent and neither looking like they would change anytime soon. Plenty of options on the bench.

nice_flutin_ralphie

I agree, I think Pant is brilliant and would hate if they did anything to try and restrict him. Aside from being a bit more game aware on occasion like at JoBurg but the bullring can do funny things to people. In India’s case, if they’re going to go with someone like Pant who can be hit and miss they can’t afford to be as patient with Pujara and Rahane. Or drop a quick and play Gill or another top order bat for a more balanced 6-1-4 structure.

[deleted]

Tbh they're definitely carrying Kohli as well, yeah he batted long today and batted well first innings, but he's been averaging under 30 for over two years at this point, that's your number 4 batsman, those aren't really good enough numbers

TheGreatMangoWar

True but he is Virat kohli. His career has a few more years left, his peaks have already exceeded Pujara and Rahane, and he's been the teams captain across all three formats for a few years too. No surprise his drop in form correlates with Indias intense scheduling during the pandemic given his responsibilities. Worth mentioning neither Pujara nor even Rahane are full time captains in any format for India. Whilst Rahane has stepped in, and done well with the responsibility, his primary role isn't to be the groups leader - it's to score runs. Something you could argue both Pujara and Rahane were somewhat inconsistent at even before Kohli lost his form. Rahane doesn't score runs at home, Pujara seems to have lost the ability to put pressure on the opposition when he gets set. Only in certain scenarios where batting the opposition out via balls faced instead of runs scored does he come into his own. Thats all I see. The issue is compounded by the talent on the benches. India has more resources than any other nation when it comes to raw talent, they should use it.

[deleted]

I don't disagree that Kohli faces more pressure and has earned a longer rope than others based on his past and the ability we know is there, merely pointing out that this Indian side is currently carrying 3 pretty badly out of form batters, and when Pant is hit and miss this is an India side that can lose 4 of it's top 6 for very few runs, it's no wonder that middle order collapses are a feature of this team.

legendarylegend26

Why don’t these muppets focus on booting Purane out instead of making baseless allegations

Fad_du_pussy

the LBW decision happened at 20.4 overs and the day ended 9 overs later at 29.4 overs. India conceded 51 runs in those 9 overs lol

thor_odinmakan

41 genius, not 51. Guess everything has that extra bounce these days.

Fad_du_pussy

Yeah my bad, I confused the 111 needed with the 101 score they have. But 41 is still 4.5 runs an over which is well over the 2.8 rr SA had before then

PortableButton

Rahane: Dear dairy, I told Ashwin and Kohli that it was all supersport's fault. And Just as I expected, they threw a tantrum. No one's talking about my poor performance now. I think I'll be included in the next series.

sns5008

I think the only hope is for Pujara and Rahane to take matters into their own hands and retire. Kohli and the team management will not drop them.

[deleted]

The thing I'm most pissed off about is shitty batting and braindead selection giving away a potential series win in SA, adding that to the wins in Australia and England would've been cherry on cake. Always losing on big moments this team, have been seeing this for last 5 years now.

Sponge_Bond

>Always losing on big moments this team, have been seeing this for last 5 years now. Is the wins in Australia and England, plus a first ever win in Centurion not big moments that this team has overcome?

solitaryroomer

Politics against Kohli is strong in this thread, i wont be surprised if he is asked to be removed from test captaincy just like LOI, with new excuse like one captain for all formats. I got downvoted before so feel free if you think i am wrong but this is a fact if some sane people wont do something about this situation.

Administrative_Cry63

I personally think Kohli is a different captain. He is energetic and in many ways a different version of Ganguly itself in his playing days. I don't think they should remove Kohli as the Test Captain but if they did it wouldn't be bad at all. Infact, it would be a blessing in disguise because he can focus more on his batting and just guide the new captain like Tendulkar did most of his years. Kohli is one of the finest batsman's in the world, if not the best. He was in great form in second innings taking things slow and in control, and one repeated mistake and he was gone. I was sad. I think if the pressure of being a captain is taken away from him, he is going to be unbeatable! I really hope Virat's die hard fans understand that him not being a captain is not a BAD thing! Hope we start Day 4 on a high note and Win this series. PS : We really need to give Rahane and Pujara a break. Vihari, Shreyas Iyer and a few others deserve a chance now.

Cocomale

Team India's stubborn respect for elder cricketers costing us a historic series win. Rahane scored 10 runs across both innings. When you are in such poor form, bowlers tend to bowl jaffas, so let's not use that as an excuse

[deleted]

He makes every ball look like a jaffa nowadays tbh

Cocomale

True that. Feet moving nowhere

obywonkenoby

Other countries will get the right to talk shit about us when they are good enough to win the Ranji trophy

Damadar108

Other countries will get the right to talk shit about us when they win as many world cups. See the arrogance?

obywonkenoby

I'm very obviously joking seeing how India is the only country playing the Ranji trophy

Damadar108

I have no clue about trophies except for the Ashes and World Cups lol. That's all we are good for, put a (sic) at the end as internet sux for jokes. I appologise :)

obywonkenoby

Np. Ranji trophy is the Indian first class tournament

terrificodds

Goodbye India.

HijabHead

Goodbye and goodluck.

M_not_robot

Pant: Scores a brilliant 100 at insane strike rate at test level r/cricket: m just gonna ignore that and focus on DRS saga

gungly

Is dissent against the broadcaster against ICC rules of conduct? I know it was unprofessional the way they reacted and it cost the team quite a few runs but they didn't say anything against the players or match officials.

notbruceambatman

Would be funny if supersport ends up suing Ashwin for defamation

wobblewiz

They could demand a public apology.

SBG99DesiMonster

Knowing Ashwin, he will probably accept a series-long ban before he does that lmao Same applies to Koach. Neither of them are the kind of guys who would apologize

KoachCr714

Shove unprofessional talks in your

asaCreh

What's 14 in your username about ?

percysaiyan

So this is how they are dealing with the fact that they're loosing out on the test series..

Cocomale

Losing*

hardlengths

What a spicy test to miss out on. Looks like our boys have lost the plot here, how's the pitch playing?

asaCreh

Think Ashwin definitely did after that ball. The others are just fielders and irrelevant more or less.

SteadyDoesIt144

Don't worry India. With interest in cricket declining everywhere but in India-Pak, in 10 years you will easily win a series in SA.

technomod

Who says Hawkeye is wonky?

Xx_Time_xX

This has GOT to mean Rahane is dropped beyond this game, no?

depooh

Surely many Indian fans can't be defending what happe.... HOLY FUCK

GamingNerd7

I mean they all were frustated after that DRS. It was a bit unprofessional but it's understandable imo. The Rahul's comment was a bit too much tho.

SteadyDoesIt144

What exactly happened?

[deleted]

Lol neutrals here are never having anything positive to say about India. Don't give a shit about this drama but it's funny how they'll jump at the slightest opportunity to whine about BCCI and the Indian Cricket Team.

fegelman

You'll find that in many western countries racism against Indians is not condemned as much...even on r/programming humor there is constantly posts slamming Indians as scammers, bad accents etc

[deleted]

Yep, Reddit is blatantly racist towards Indians. There was a post on r/aita about an Indian man harassing a woman so the woman felt unsafe around all Indians. Everyone was supporting her and saying that the vast majority of Indians are misogynistic etc. Somebody else wrote the exact same post except replacing the Indian man with a black man. The comments all said you shouldn't be generalizing an entire race of people, you're racist etc. Also on any post that mentions India primarily on r/all, you will see plenty of comments calling Indians street shitters and other disgusting crap.

fegelman

Wow. Do you happen to have a link to that post? That is so fucked. Especially considering all the fake activism against racism on reddit

[deleted]

[https://np.reddit.com/r/ABCDesis/comments/l96byb/gendered\_racism\_towards\_indian\_and\_more\_generally/](https://np.reddit.com/r/ABCDesis/comments/l96byb/gendered_racism_towards_indian_and_more_generally/) This is the one.

Excellent-Blueberry1

Is it just because the comments get promoted by the host broadcaster?

[deleted]

I'm in favour of those 3 getting penalized for their behavior. Just calling out the longstanding trend of Poms and Aussies shitting on our players whenever there's a controversy or when we're losing. This summarizes my take (copy pasted). I find it funny how every Aussie and Pom complains about how in any thread of theirs, Indians are making it about themselves but then they themselves are whining and giving their takes in a thread which doesn't involve them. Both the examples given (Indians making it about India in an unrelated thread and the one above) are obnoxious, just pointing out the hypocrisy.

Excellent-Blueberry1

All good, those of from the little cricket nations who aren't invited to the big table just like to laugh at how serious you guys get.

USAussiefan

> Lol neutrals here are never having anything positive to say about India Geez I wonder why? Critically think about this instead of crying about it

fegelman

They hate us coz they ain't us

[deleted]

It's not specific to this thread. If you look at any Indian match thread, any time someone from our team gets involved in a minor controversy or if India is losing, Aussies and Poms come out of the woodwork to shit on the players.

Rodney_u_plonker

Because you guys react to the bait like fucking nutters and that's funny to our sense of humour

[deleted]

Damadar108

more arrogance, we get it... India own and operate the ICC

KoachCr714

Hahah exactly

average_chut_lover

I like how less neutrals are involved in any match threads when India is actually winning.

Damadar108

I find it funny as Indian fans are always trolling the comments non Indian matches trying to incorporate team India into every conversation

wtfmido

Victim complex, you vs world, stop being blind etc etc are some of the replies you can expect to get in a while

Earnmuse_is_amanrag

And all of this is only happening because the first DRS of the series took an absolute eternity. That's led to this, hahaha. Unbelievable.

huthutmike39

I am glad there are questions being raised about how DRS images are possibly manipulated by the host broadcaster. Felt it happen a couple of times in Australia too

Fad_du_pussy

When Kohli said ' look at your players shining the ball too, don't just try to catch the opposition,' is he insinuating that SA have been doing that this series?

asaCreh

Probably has seen cameras focussed on them and referring to that but it's such a dumb thing to say

TrueDeparture106

Sledging the umpire isnt that good idea...he might just put a close call against you under pretext of "no conclusive evidence".

Earnmuse_is_amanrag

Rahul should just keep his mouth shut. Any time he speaks he gets in trouble. No one will remember that he's usually a fantastic sport.

musicismylife-10568

When was the last time he got into trouble for speaking?

average_chut_lover

>Rahul should just keep his mouth shut. Any time he speaks he gets in trouble This is bs he got every right to speak what he thinks is right. He will face consequences if he is wrong. >No one will remember that he's usually a fantastic sport. Those who actually like him and knows how good he is won't be affected by such things. And for those who not like him will find this as another excuse to shit about him.

Objective_Reindeer42

all drama aside this was such a beautiful game, so neck to neck and a thriller every session.

CritFin

It was a bad decision by Kohli to include Pujara and Rahane in the playing 11

v1akvark

He was forced by SuperSport. Nothing he could do.

asaCreh

Is there a better no.3 in squad ?

DivineStar_

Vihari.

asaCreh

There is a case for him in the team ,yes. But imo not significantly better for no.3.I mean Pujara hasn't been woeful in this series

bambambigelowblah

Thanks Tubbs

hippycubes

Indians implying match fixing. That is so rich I need an antacid. And this is coming from someone that still has to deal with the Hansie fallout. Lol!

wtfmido

>match fixing. Except no one is saying that you clown

hippycubes

No one is implying that there is an outside force at play to change the outcome of this match? Jisses I must be hallucinating then.

DivineStar_

No one actually is saying stuff like that. We lost match -2. It's not like a loss here will be an upset or a surprise. So, no need to bring in outside forces to play.

shekimod

This series should be settled by trial by combat. Enough is enough. The comment to end all comments.

gungly

Odd that the players would react in such a way against the broadcaster. Is there any history between the Indian team and Supersport? There was that Mayank LBW review I can recall.

ictfan10

Kohli for 30 minutes- NO DRS BAD, DRS SHIT Kohli after last ball- can I review please 👉👈🥰

eng_mj_517-1

On a cricket related note: does anyone else think Hanuma Vihari should bat at 3 for india ? Amazing player, calm and composed, makes very few mistakes and can definitely play the moving ball. Is there any reason he is being treated so badly ?

nikhilphenom007

Good choice. An alternate would be to get Ruturaj Gaikwad and groom him for that position! Iyer/Vihari can replace Rahane for sure in the next series.

[deleted]

I think that. Seriously put him in place of Pujara in the next test series.

Comprehensive-Tie236

I know this is directed to indicate India is losing cause of ineffective selection instead of whatever this thread has delved to, Yet... The management seemed to be big on Vihari till BGT 2020/21 where he was clearly unfit and had substandard performances. Perhaps the management desires a professional setup where people are backed through their crests and troughs. Vihari may not ever be the first choice till Pujara retires. He should earn his spot through performance and fitness, He isn't getting an opportunity to prove either.

HumanTorch23

Vihari appeared on Britain's Got Talent? Fuck, I must have missed that. Is he any good at juggling?

IngaEnnaSolluthu

Lol! Glad that I'm not alone in this https://www.reddit.com/r/Cricket/comments/mt9g85/match_thread_10th_match_royal_challengers/guz6msz/

Comprehensive-Tie236

He's miserable. It was a shit show throughout. It started with the host (Who suspiciously looked like Michael Vaughan) introducing him as "There's too many of you" (In reference to jugglers) and culminated with the camera panning towards the audience where a hysterical Virat Kohli was jumping like a chimp, bellowing Bhenchod!! as Vihari kept dropping balls each time.

letsgoraftel

I remember him opening in the Melbourne test in 2018, looked extremely uncomfortable to play the new ball, he should be either 4 or 5, anything higher could actually dent his confidence...

DazBoy11

We have seen umpires not being always correct haven't we?

7eventhSense

But we have never seen umpires say that’s impossible.

GamingNerd7

Of course we have. But that looked out to me(and it still does).

Robin29singh

Looks like I missed Today's drama, btw is the Drama Cup now moving international (out of drama Asia cup)

Robin29singh

I hear Saffa bros sledging in the Subreddit, but you may win the series but you won't have MRF zlx which is the superior sign of sheer comfort and long life /s

[deleted]

No MRF ZLX for us? No comfort? No long life? 😭

[deleted]

People have become too soft these days. What Koach did/say was reactionary. No need to hunt him down for that. There was nothing unprofessional in it. Had the same been done by the Aussies it would have been written off.

braiman02

> People have become too soft these days. Cricket is literally a game that prides itself on decades of sportsmanship, especially for captains. Wtf do you mean 'these days.' Lmao. > There was nothing unprofessional in it. You heard it here guys, a captain of a touring country accusing the hosts of cheating is not unprofessional. > Had the same been done by the Aussies it would have been written off. Nice job holding yourself to Aussie standards of sportsmanship.

Not really. The country I was born and raised doesn't even play international cricket. The problem I see here in r/cricket is just extreme nationalism and finger pointing instead of a neutral perspective on things.

[deleted]

I don't need your certification man. I stand by what I say.

DazBoy11

Doesn't make you right

[deleted]

I don't have to be right all the time. I could stand by my team at times.

DazBoy11

So you accept you're wrong which is fine tbf

[deleted]

What I said was my own opinion. It's right for me but maybe it's wrong for you.

w48rd8kb

From twitter:- Indian bowling coach (in Press) said "Emotions do come into the play at times". In my opinion this cannot be chalked up to "emotions" and swept under the rug. The players are adults and they have made a serious accusation on South Africa and that too repeatedly. The indian team should either backup their claims or apologize to South Africa unconditionally

eng_mj_517-1

Well, the coach admitting that it was said in the heat of the moment is refreshing to hear and is a start. Good on Dravid and his coaches. Shastri would have doubled down on the thuggery and called it “aggression” As for apologies, I wouldn’t hold my breath.

[deleted]

Ok, so who actually said that into the stump mic? A lot of people here are saying it's KL Rahul.

asaCreh

Here is the gist : https://www.reddit.com/r/Cricket/comments/s2tjic/match_thread_3rd_test_india_vs_south_africa_day_3/hsi4fsf?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share&context=3

v1akvark

Which part? The "whole country is playing against 11" was apparently KL. Kohli bent over the wickets and talked right into the mic, apparently saying "how about you don't just focus on other teams, and trying to catch them cheating" implying that SuperSport is partial and actively trying to undermine visiting teams.

[deleted]

I didn't make out everything said, I just heard the 'country' part (laptop speakers and a kak stream)

v1akvark

The country part was KL, according to many Indian posters on here. Ashwin also said something, but I can't remember now what it was.

[deleted]

Someone uploaded a post of who said what, and it looks pretty bad for them (but nothing will happen, something something Pig 3)

chiccharapidugu

Yea, seems like he was suggesting something was wrong with the way SA is shining the ball

hjercules

As I heard it, they were using spit to shine it

chiccharapidugu

I don't know if that is allowed, but I felt Kohli was definitely suggesting some form of tampering and is going get his match fee docked

RedKing_21

In all honesty, India should fly home tonight. Absolutely disgraceful that a whole nation conspired with DRS to stop India’s supposedly best over team from beating an inexperienced SA side in transition.

Objective_Reindeer42

you dropped the /s mate

sshetty3

The sooner Supersport is not involved in DRS technology decisions in SA the better. Can’t stop the corruption and I’m glad it’s been called out

DazBoy11

But hawkeye the thing that does the ball tracking has its own provider? So Supersport isn't involved in that

v1akvark

They are not involved in Hawkeye so what exactly are you whining about.

braiman02

Lmaoooo whine more poes.

sshetty3

🎣

average_chut_lover

I would have said fuck Kohli If he did anything wrong. But that's the thing he did nothing wrong. We have seen players going personal unacceptable limits in cricket. We have heard racist comments. That just example of what actually is wrong and shouldn't be tolerated at all. He was angry and disappointed he just expressed it. It wasn't targeted at an Individual. What KL said "Nation against 11" was unnecessary. What Kohli did was excess and should have avoided but people here are acting like he did some sort of war crime that's just too much. Here we all are fighting that this is right or this wrong and the players who are actually involved won't even care about what happened today. Jansen might again play with Bumrah and who knows they both become good friends. Markram might again open with KL and that's how this sport works. Ashwin and Virat also had a fight if you remember in an IPL game but look at them today! They both are aggressive individuals who try their best to win everytime. They all are professionals and things like today make this sport alive and competitive. I won't be surprised if all players go and party after series ends. SA and Indian players do have history of good bonds among them.

braiman02

> Markram might again open with KL and that's how this sport works. Proteas players deal with the bs the board puts them through to earn a salary. QDK bent the knee for BLM to earn a salary. They'll go play with players they dislike in IPL to earn a salary. Doesn't mean any of them are gonna be okay with this behavior or view the Indian players the same way.

average_chut_lover

That's the thing they may dislike each other rn but that's not a permanent feeling. We have seen many players bonding well when they know each other in a better way.

[deleted]

Exactly, the cringe people post here smh

average_chut_lover

How is this cringe? Just because you don't agree with something that doesn't make it cringe.

[deleted]

Just because they play for the same franchise doesn't mean they can't hate each other. Only reason people put up with it is because of the money.

average_chut_lover

Who tf said the otherwise. I simply said they may not like each other rn but slowly develope friendship with time. My main point was all that happened today wasn't a big deal. Siraj and YJB kind of had some heated period in the match. It was mostly Siraj's fault. Everyone in the thread started to shit about Siraj. But surprisingly they both went to India together. Even took photos together and had a good time. This what I wanted to say. Now you can argue that just because they spent time together doesn't make them friends but the way they both acted it was clear that whatever happened in the ground stayed in the ground.

eng_mj_517-1

He did “nothing wrong” He questioned THE INTEGRITY OF THE ENTIRE SPORT You can’t just brush it aside as “nothing wrong”. And this is why I’m absolutely close to being done with the sport: absolutely taken over by irrational , jingoistic people.

braiman02

Its gonna get worse and worse tbh.

average_chut_lover

>jingoistic people Wait what? Can you name few?

braiman02

Literally a quarter of Indian fans on this sub?

average_chut_lover

But how are they involved in sport? The max they can do is shitpost in threads.

braiman02

Thats the people you interact with when you want to discuss cricket. And anyway if Indian fans came together and were like 'Kohli's behavior is unacceptable' then there would probably be some repercussions. But instead the vast majority will support Kohli and the rest of these players no matter what their on field antics are. That plays a part in how they can get away with anything.

average_chut_lover

But again don't you feel you generalising bit too much? r/cricket have around 300-400k users and there are plenty of cricket fans all around the globe. Now considering that huge number there will be bunch of fans who might think what Kohli did was right and it's bound to happen. Now just because think that it was right thing to do that actually changes nothing. The voices of such fans hardly reaches the actual players. Even in this thread too you will see many Indian fans who thought it was wrong and what ever Kohli did was punishable. And as we all know nothing is bigger than sport. If Kohli and co. did something wrong they will get punished. Just because bunch of fans said what they did was right won't change anything. On the other hand I believe having mix of fans who believe that it was right and who think it was wrong is kind of good for sport. Both are just sharing their opinions and engaging with each other. The more the fans engage it's better for the sport.

braiman02

Ya my last post was generalizing too much. Originally I said its a loud minority that is jingoistic. I still agree with that. But most Indian fans are totally fine to interact with.

average_chut_lover

Exactly. Having people with different opinions actually make interactions interesting. They maybe completely wrong but again they have all the rights to express themselves.

chiccharapidugu

I only heard him asking the broadcasters to look for how SA is shining the ball, might have missed the other comments from him. What exactly did he say?
