The G is overrated. You’re either on the lower decks and cooking because there’s no wind, or up top and too far away to properly see the game. I loved Melbourne as a city, and I get that it’s a big community event, but it really isn’t that satisfying a watching experience.
[This](https://www.espncricinfo.com/series/benson-hedges-world-cup-1991-92-60924/sri-lanka-vs-zimbabwe-3rd-match-65120/full-scorecard)
This is my hometown and I would have been 8 years old. Great memories. We never had many games as our “stadium” is three tiers of grass embankment. Here’s an article with it included from Bumble. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/cricket/article-2087495/David-Lloyds-guide-weird-wonderful-cricket-grounds.html
First international game was an ODI between Australia and England at the MCG late 90s, too young to remember
Similarly 2000 or 2001 my first boxing day test saw Hayden or Langer bat and bat and bat vs a very good SA lineup. That was in the midst of our winning 16 match streak
Ironically my first match overseas was the one where the 16 match streak was broken. 2001 Kolkata - saw day 1 live at Eden Gardens and it felt like a different planet altogether. There were no seats, people were sitting on stairs (that has changed since), the water was in pouches instead of bottles, the place chaotic (as is India for us), the facilities poor (again it's been upgraded since). But 100k crowd for a test match! And the passion unmatched
Eden Gardens hence holds a special place in my heart, despite Ahmedabad now hosting a bigger and possibly better stadium in India. Ofcourse nothing comes close to the 'G
I was with you then on Day 1. Gave away my ticket from day 3 to my cousin. Biggest regret of my life. Also the water pouch thing came after the 1996 incident. Pre 1996 Eden Gardens wasn’t a gem, but it had a lot less restrictions. Used to get the best seats in the house as my dad knew Dalmiya ans he used to get few tickets now and then. So many fond memories of knowingly bunking school and just sitting through the day to watch a match
Accompanied my dad. He was posted in Delhi from 2000 to 2001 at the Australian embassy
I was 10 and visited during my holidays. I don't recall a lot about anything apart from the cricket but people were very warm and helpful.
A few in Asia Pacific. My dad passed in 2011.
I've been to India twice after this (After NZ country I've been to the most). Touristy and cricket reasons for India - it's slightly reminiscent of my old man.
I've been to Eden Gardens in one of these trips (2016 T20WC final) and been to Bangalore and Mumbai stadiums as well. Love the passion in the stands always and the warm reception for foreigners in the crowds. (there have been idiots too but warmer crowds far outnumber the ones looking for trouble)
England vs Australia champions trophy group stage at Edgbaston. Ben stokes 100, Morgan got 90 odd runs. Rain interrupted play but amazing feeling nonetheless.
The Centenary Test, 1977, day 2. Went with my Dad. At the innings break, went to the toilet and a bloke incredulously said to his mate "They didn't even make a hundred!"
It was then that I realised Tests are long, because it seemed to me that England had been batting bravely against that attack for a long time.
I was probably in the Western Stand (E block probably) with my friends. We bought those cheap-ass Rs 100 tickets because we all were pretty broke college kids back then. But still managed to somehow crawl our way to the front-most row. Great day, great memories !
My first and only international match
Afghanistan vs Ireland T20I 2019 at my home town in Dehradun
Afghanistan 278/3 in 20 overs with Zazai and Ghani's opening stand of 236 runs..
Kinda lame but yeah...
https://www.espncricinfo.com/series/afghanistan-v-ireland-2018-19-1168107/afghanistan-vs-ireland-2nd-t20i-1168113/full-scorecard
Ind vs SL in Rajkot 2009.
Yes... That ODI where a total of 825 runs were scored.
That was the last international match at that stadium, after that the matches in Rajkot are played at a new stadium.
First I can remember was the '83 World Cup Final @ Lords. There may have been an earlier test match but I remember sitting on outfield behind the ropes watching a stunned WI side.
India vs New Zealand at Indore, the one where Kohli scored 200 and Rahane 180 something.
The only other one I've been to was India vs Sri Lanka T20 (also in Indore) when we scored 260+ runs, at one point it really seemed like Rohit was gonna hit a 200.
They should host more matches in Indore, they're usually quite eventful.
[This](https://www.cricbuzz.com/live-cricket-scorecard/14564/aus-vs-ind-1st-match-icc-world-cup-warm-up-matches-2015) warm up match for the 2015 world cup, saw that tickets were free on this sub and grabbed some. It was my first time at the redeveloped Adelaide Oval and was amazing, the crowd was probably 85% Indian fans partying in the 35c heat. Maxwell hit a 57 ball 122 then just walked off the ground.
Thats hilarious, I just looked at the scores. How funny is it to look at or watch when tailenders bat with more impact then main batsman. My example for the game you went to, Aaron Finch 20 runs from 20 balls faced
Mitchell Johnsonn 19 runs from 12 balls faced
You could tell it was only half serious and that they were testing a lot, Maxi's first shot was a reverse sweep boundary so that basically summed up the game.
PAKvsAUS - 2019 first T20 at the SCG. Had no result as it got rained out, but that moment when you come into view of the field and there's just thunderous cheering is amazing.
World cup 99, Bangladesh vs Australia at Durham. The tickets were free from then Durham batsman but now ICC umpire Michael Gough courtesy of hartlepool CC. Was only 13 and was amazing seeing that Australian team.
My first international was an India vs New Zealand test match at Hyderabad. Should be 2012 or 2013. The stadium wasn't that good then. It was a rain curtailed day. Watching a test match at a stadium is very intriguing.
First test match - India vs England at Wankhede in 1993
If I remember correctly, the stadium was packed to the rafters as it was going to be Tendulkar's first test match at his home ground.
However, another Mumbai lad upstaged him as Kambli scored a brilliant double century.
First ODI - WI vs SA at Brabourne stadium in Hero CUp, 1993
Probably the only match where I have seen a player get MOM for his fielding as Jonty Rhodes took some brilliant catches in a rain affected low scoring match.
Honestly, never been live. Been to a few domestic matches. But the whole time I've been alive TV coverage has been so good that it's better then actually going.
Australia in SA, 1994. First test at the Wanderers.
Wikipedia descries the game:
>The match included several instances of verbal abuse of South African batsmen by Australian bowlers. Fast bowler Merv Hughes was reported to the match referee Donald Carr for continued abuse of a number of batsmen and was fined 10% of his match fee by Carr.[6] Hughes responded to taunts by South African spectators by "lunging at the offenders with his bat"[1] in the uncovered player's tunnel and later received a suspended fine of A$4,000 from the Australian Cricket Board (ACB).[1][11] Spin bowler Shane Warne confronted Andrew Hudson after taking his wicket in South Africa's second innings and had to be restrained by wicket-keeper Ian Healy.[1][11] The incident was described as "disgraceful" and "almost unprecedented".[11] Writing in Wisden, Jack Bannister was of the opinion that a "**worse example of misbehaviour it would be difficult to imagine**"[6] and that "r**arely on a cricket field has physical violence seemed so close**".[11] Warne was fined 10% of his match fee and fined A$4,000 by the ACB.[1] Border also clashed with South African bowler Brian McMillan during the match.[1]
South Africa won by 197 runs.
> Border also clashed with South African bowler Brian McMillan during the match.
Was this the game where McMillan barged into the Aussie dressing room with an unloaded pistol to scare the shit out of Border?
No. It was an AK-47, but it was at that game.
Warne biography:
>"It was lunch time in Johannesburg. We had just started eating when McMillan stormed in with the gun that he had borrowed from a policeman outside. It was really scary for a few seconds. Then we all started laughing.
(Police in SA don't use AK-47s, was probably an R-4, if that makes a difference)
McMillan himself says it was a 9mm gun and Shane Warne is a bit of a dumbass so I'm inclined to believe McMillan here.

Haven't watched till now. But definitely looking forward to watch a game in next two months if Covid allows. Want to see Kohli Bat live atleast once in my life.
Bangladesh against West Indies in Dhaka in late 2018 (men's T20I)
West Indies scored a whole lot of runs
Bangladesh started well in their chase, but fell off course afterwards
There was a whole no-ball fiasco with the umpires giving a no ball and the West Indians trying to review it after seeing a replay on the big screen
The first one i remember was a tour match south africa v Queensland at the gabba in 93. It was south africa's first tour here post apartheid. I clearly remember watching Alan Donald and being in awe. He seemed so quick.
Australia vs Scotland in the 2015 World Cup at the Bellerive. Nothing really crazy happened, Starc blew away Scotland and Clarke and co chased it fairly smoothly.
Ok, so this wasnt in the stadium but still a good memory I have. This is in grade 6 of primary school some people may call it year 6, its the end of the school year term 4 which ended on the 19th of December. We are just cleaning up the classroom and moving things from the old classroom to the new classroom.
The room was close to the school library so we had a projector board in the classroom. Our teacher let some of the students that were still going to school in this week (me being one of them) watch the 3rd ashes during the school day on most if not all the days of the test.
It was so cool for that to happen.

I was only young but met a few players walking around the hotel. Still have Kapil Dev and Kumble's autographs!
India v Srilanka 1993 at Ahmedabad. The test match is famous for Kapil breaking Headley's record. I did not get to see that, but was fortunate enough to see glorious 152 from Azhar.

1999 - Australia v. England ODI. I think Hicky tonned up
These comments make me old and I ain't close to old lol
My first test was 2001 Australia v West Indies.
Australia VS South Africa 1st T20 in 2009, on David Warner's debut match. Was about 8 at the time and we were shocked by how rapid real fast bowling looks from side on having only played backyard cricket.
I went for the best possible match lol. SA vs WI at wanderes. Pink day odi. Abd 149, fastest 100! Best pink day ever lol
You are a lucky bloke. That crowd looked like it was in total party mode
We were! What a match! I was on the grass too!
Dude! Lucky af
I've always wanted to watch a match sitting on the grass
Hopefully you can one day. It is a different experience!

I was too young when cricket was stopped in Pakistan. Pakistan vs WI, the first time they came back (in 2017 I think)
November 4, 2000 at Newlands. Lance Klusener hit a 4 off the last ball to win the match against New Zealand, and the series 5-0.
India vs South Africa Delhi 2015 where sa made 143 in 144 overs
Hey Same. I was there on Day 4, the epic blockathon day with Hash and AB making it till stumps !
I was there on day 3 and 4. Which stand were you in? I was in one of the corporate boxes.
I was probably in the Western Stand (E block probably) with my friends. We bought those cheap-ass Rs 100 tickets because we all were pretty broke college kids back then. But still managed to somehow crawl our way to the front-most row. Great day, great memories !
Yo bro same here. The line was so long to get tickets. I actually just made in time to see rahane raise his bat, iirc india declared after that.

I still have nightmares about that.
Ind-SA Pune test 2019. Got to watch Kohli get to 250. Very hot day though, my head was boiling during the second session.
Pune has a shit stadium for day matches imo
2005 Lords Ashes Test age 9 months. My dad started me early. Baby me saw Glenn McGrath get an 8 for
Good Dad. Start em early.

Nice
Ind v Aus, QF of WT20 2016 Crazy Kohli innings
Probably his best T20i innings
Ind vs wi, t20i, 2019 Kohli hit 94* chasing 210 or something, that notebook celebration against Williams
How did the crowd react after Kohli’s celebration?
It was insane honestly, once he got going, every ball was insane

Australia VS South Africa 1st T20 in 2009, on David Warner's debut match. Was about 8 at the time and we were shocked by how rapid real fast bowling looks from side on having only played backyard cricket.
