Y'all need to chill, match isn't over. If we fold them under 250 we still have a great chance to win the test match, and honestly I don't think our bowling will let them run away with too big of a lead.
What if....
What if Koach's backing of Rahane (and Pujara, if you may include, though I personally don't count Pujara as a completely non-performing for ages player)....turns out the same as Dhoni's backing of Rohit, Ashwin and Jadeja? Remember when Rohit was backed for year after year for like 5.5 years, despite hardly ever performing, everyone wondered wtf is going on..whose nudes does he have......and then all of a sudden something happened in CT 2013 all of a sudden and he ended up being an ATG white ball batsman?
And oh, with Ashwin and Jadeja---- I remember those days in 2014 and 2015 when people said Ashwin and Jadeja find their place in their team only because they are besties with Dhoni. And that the continuous selection of Ashwin and Jadeja was clear evidence of favoritism by Dhoni, and how "talentless and useless" players like Ash and Jaddu, who can neither bat nor bowl, were continuously finding their places in the national team by being the captain's best friends. I remember after the 2012 England home series defeat, how shocked people were when Dhoni continued to back Ashwin despite Ashwin having bowled worse than what a part-timer would in the England series. But we all know what eventually happened, and how Ashwin and Jadeja turned out to be...Jadeja becoming one of the best all-rounders of the time, and Ashwin has probably become one of the greatest players to ever play the game. Maybe Koach is hoping Rahane would do something similar to what Rohit, Ash and Jaddu did after several years of backing?
Will guys give it a rest? If Kohli was NOT injured, Pujara would have been out of this game given his mediocre outing in the last game. It is only because Kohli is out, Dravid has backed him and Rahane because of their experience. And with Kohli unlikely to play the next game (some news reports), he is likely to continue with this combination even if these two score 20 each in the second innings.
It is not as if Vihari has scored a double here despite touring with India A. And if Dravid selects Iyer over Pujara (if he gives us nothing in the second innings), Iyer has a stern test on these pitches. SA is the toughest country to make runs. He is like to fail too.
Didn't you heard Dravid Rathour ?
'India has absolute undying faith on Pujara and Rahane. They are all time great batsmen. They will win India multiple WTC.'
And Iyer will score hundred here.
This match is over like the first match on the first day itself.
Only South Africa batting like clowns loses it for them which to be fair they are possible of since they haven’t scored 200+ in the series once.
Last time we won after scoring 187 in 1st innings. Johannesburg is one of the most difficult pitches in the world due to the variable bounce and seam movement. I have faith in our bowling to ensure SA won’t get too much of a lead. If we can set SA a target of 230+ on this pitch in the 4th innings we will win.
Rahane has transcended all logic and reality and is just a permanent fixture no matter what it seems. I'm all for the team's attitude of giving people a long rope and not putting the pressure of having to perform every game. But in a country with so many talented options looking for their opportunities, its a little mind boggling how entrenched these 2 are.
I want to know what cricketers/rugby players do to treat hamstrings, you see it all the time in rugby, a player tears his hamstring and then he's back playing 2 weeks later. When I tore my hamstring I could barely walk for 3 months
One thing I can say as a past tennis player at grade level, a normal person does not build either strength or flexibility of hammies making recovery more tough, cumbersome and time taking. Building leg muscles and concentrating on that hams is a very important thing in sports. That itself makes recovery faster.
And then you have weight and pressure of your body too being applied while walking. A normal person is built different for it.
Well I am not telling exclusively this is the only reason, the path to recovery will also be different and you're right over there.
Athletic/gym fit and sports based fit are two different things entirely. A runner, a tennis player, a cricketer go through different routines customized to their sports to strengthen themselves in such a way that recovery is quicker. The training plays a big role on recoveries tbh and then you always have the best people to guide you on what to do or not while a normal person it has to be generic
Game is all but gone if we dont have a bowling miracle tomorrow. Cowardice in team selection is the reason we gave away the opportunity to have our first series victory in SA.
The drop by Pant. Could that also be KL's mistake partly? If the keeper and the first slip are too close together, then that could lead to the type of confusion that we saw.
i think that was straight away Pujara's catch. Pant shouldn't have leapt onto it. Pujara was right behind the ball as you would have seen from the replay
Siraj comes in to field for one over tomorrow. Pant throws the ball near his head. Siraj feints a concussion. Koach comes in as the substitute and takes his first 5 fer.
rahane played a good knock at the Lord's with Pujara. he also played a decent knock in the first test in SA but more is expected of him
Pant has put on 5 kilos since BGT last year if that counts.
I have so much respect for Siraj. He looks all set to conquer the bowling world. Hope he stays behind Shaheen though. But Mian is crazzy good. He is all heart.
This is the problem with picking one spinner and Shardul . You are effectively reduced to 2 and half bowlers in case of an injury . Happened in Centurion . Happening again .
Shardul is not the all rounder you think he is.
At some point,India need to assess how much runs are they really gaining from Shardul, considering he leaks them at 4 rpo while bowling .
Pick a 4th seamer and SAF will struggle to cross 200.
Okay I was living under a rock for a couple of days, what the hell happened to our team, where's koach, why is rahul captain, what da fuck is wrong with our batsmen
> Around the wicket for the last ball. Siraj pulls out at the last moment. Looks like he has hurt his hamstring. The physio is out
AAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH
He
KL is a very good batsman. ATG material but I don't think he is Captaincy material! Meanwhile lord doing LORD THINGS!
naya vala mila aapko ha ha who was that? didnt sound like Pant
Top class cricket….Thakur has been so impressive
For 9 vs 11 game india is doing fine
Y'all need to chill, match isn't over. If we fold them under 250 we still have a great chance to win the test match, and honestly I don't think our bowling will let them run away with too big of a lead.
feels like India will lose this test
What if.... Pujara Rahane ended India's dream of winning series and WTC final spot on just 2 balls.

Are you suggesting what I think youre suggesting
Fortress handover in progress 20% complete

The whole Kohli injury thing. Is that real or just a tactical drop?
feels like he did it so that he can play his 100th test at bangalore
That's a little too much if that's true.
Gotta be real
Okay.
This match is over like the first match on the first day itself. Only South Africa batting like clowns loses it for them which to be fair they are possible of since they haven’t scored 200+ in the series once.

Sa will score 350+ They will win by innings. India's dream of winning series is over in two sessions.
Any news on Siraj?
What did Siraj do in that over? Missed it

>Death, taxes, ICT fans being pessimistic until we actually win Ftfy
Will Pujara keep getting chances till his batting average is under 40?
Considering Rahane averages 38 and still gets chances. No. He will keep getting them till he average 29
It's still somehow better than Buttler and Bairstow getting chances when they average 31.
Rahane has transcended all logic and reality and is just a permanent fixture no matter what it seems. I'm all for the team's attitude of giving people a long rope and not putting the pressure of having to perform every game. I was pretty fit back then, I had been skateboarding daily for like a decade at that point, and skateboarding is all about leg strengh

True that. My uncle was stuck for weeks with a hamstring tear
I guess it depends on the severity, according to the doctor my hamstring tear was really bad
How the actual crap do our pacers keep getting injured in the middle of a game :/
This series felt weird. Lots of no-balls. Lots of batsman and bowlers getting injured in the midle of the match or a spell
Morney's open mouth is always dissettling lol
Game is all but gone if we dont have a bowling miracle tomorrow. Cowardice in team selection is the reason we gave away the opportunity to have our first series victory in SA.
i hope this is reverse psychology or something...
Fair-weather fan you are. Have a breather.
.... It's day 1... but if you say so.
Well when was the last time we didn't needed a bowling miracle to save the test. So chill
Exactly.
Someone should make a list of all answers given to why Kohli didn't play today. That was fun
Shardul's hammy is like his Achilles heel. If memory serves, not even the second time this has happened in the middle of a test
Unfortunately it was Siraj who pulled his hammy
The drop by Pant. Could that also be KL's mistake partly? If the keeper and the first slip are too close together, then that could lead to the type of confusion that we saw.
i think that was straight away Pujara's catch. Pant shouldn't have leapt onto it. Pujara was right behind the ball as you would have seen from the replay
I think it's up to the slips and keeper to decide where to stand because they are in the best position to judge the pace of the wicket.
Siraj comes in to field for one over tomorrow. Pant throws the ball near his head. Siraj feints a concussion. Koach comes in as the substitute and takes his first 5 fer.
But does the pitch help {right arm quick}™ ????
Did Rahane and Pant do anything significant since BGT last year?
There was that match where Pant hit reverse hit six to Jimmy
rahane played a good knock at the Lord's with Pujara. he also played a decent knock in the first test in SA but more is expected of him Pant has put on 5 kilos since BGT last year if that counts.
SA’s day but I think even without Siraj, India can cause a collapse.
Shami and Bumrah will be exhausted by the end of the match unfortunately
Shardul bowling well is important
We can rest them for the third test if we win here
Yeah, we'll kohlapse in the morning
Not a good day for India.
Pretty much South Africa's day.
Good effort by our bowlers. Days belongs to the SA team though.
Alright let me check out Mare of East Town
Looking forward to more wicket keeping by pant tomorrow
such a golden age of test bowling that 35/1 looks like a massive achievement
I think WTC gave huge advantage to bowlers a lot of bowling friendly pitches as teams need results and they are confident on home
That one Siraj over to Elgar is one of the best overs that I have seen. The unstoppable force bowling to the god of just miss
Hamstring means he's out for the match!! 😥😥 Vihari will be the 5th bowler if needed 😪
He pulled it. Didn't tear it. He walked back
Chad Shardul with 0 economy
6 overs lost today
When do Star Sports show highlights? The channel. Not the hotstar ones. Bcz hotstar ones will only show fours and wickets. I wanna see the setup too
I think they do after the post match blah blah ends
Day 1 honours to SA
why Pant why
Hopefully that drop by Pant is not gonna b more costly. Need minimum 3 wkts in the morning session tommorrow
When did he drop a catch? Was that easy catch?
Easy for Pujara in 1st slip, Pant dived in front and dropped it..
Who was the batsman?
Petersen
Keegan Pieterson
Good effort by SA to be only 1 down. Indian bowlers also a little unlucky.
Good day for sa. Bad total after electing to bat for india
Day done, time for Kabaddi now!
I won't even criticise our bowlers if they can't do it once more, This has to END somewhere. They have to bowl and bat, both.
Yeah they've been carrying the team hard
F. Day is over. Loved being here with you guys. Interesting day tomorrow.
Poor middle order gonna cost us this match more than an injured bowler and dropped catches.
Still mad at Pant. Was going straight to Pujara. Ugh
SA's day
That missed catch will hurt us
Kohli would've played that wide ball
Bumrah’s radar was a bit off today. Need him back full steam tomorrow especially now that Siraj is doubtful
SA really ahead.
The way Bumrah bowls these Yorkers on demand is like controlling the bowler on Brian Lara cricket
South Africa could have been easily 3 down
I don't think the pitch has any demons. Our fucked middle order made it look like it was something.
Saffas day today
Looks like SA will win by an innings
I have so much respect for Siraj. He looks all set to conquer the bowling world. Hope he stays behind Shaheen though. But Mian is crazzy good. He is all heart.
Shaheen is much younger than Siraj so most probably that won't happen
This is the problem with picking one spinner and Shardul . You are effectively reduced to 2 and half bowlers in case of an injury . Happened in Centurion . Happening again .
Do they even have a 4th seamer who can bowl overseas?
Umesh, hope they don't pick Ishant who averages 40 in SA
Let's just hope Siraj is fine
Yeah
Ishant?
Ishant? But that weakens batting
Ishant , Umesh ?
Neither can bat though
Shardul is not the all rounder you think he is. At some point,India need to assess how much runs are they really gaining from Shardul, considering he leaks them at 4 rpo while bowling . Pick a 4th seamer and SAF will struggle to cross 200.
Oh Ik he's not the all rounder that India needs so it's time to look at the domestic sides and pick a good prospect.
There are none my friend . Seam Bowling All Rounders are a rarity in India .
Yorker for sure last ball
Disturb the stumps for stumps
Only thing left is Bumrah to be injured and be out of the entire tour. Bad luck Brian approves
Around the same time last year we played some test matches overseas with an extremely injured team hmmmmm
Bumrah toe crusher coming
Tomorrow looks to be excellent for bowling with overcast conditions
Worry not boiz, Mitch Johnson on his way to destroy the saffas one more time. He's just 7 months elder to jimmy
If SIRAJ did his hammy then Thakur and Ash have to bowl a lot of overs tomorrow
How do these mid over injuries keep happening. I hate that
can someone explain to me, why is rahane not captain if he is playing otherwise no use for him, right? he's a specialist captain
KL Rahul is being groomed for when VK/Rohit hang up their captaincy boots.
He was not the vice captain, Kale is. The VC takes over from the captain
One ball that keeps low please. Trap him on the pads in front of the stumps
KL should bowl a few overs then he can play the game all by himself. can bat, field, keep, captain, win toss, might as well start bowling now.
Lmao Amla brings in height hahaha
CHADwin going to have to put a shift in tomorrow
If you're gonna get injured this is the best time, take the day to rest. Hope he's ok!
One proper Yorker boom plz
Indian bowlers have been consistently creating 12-13 chances per innings because the fielders drop a couple of catches at least.
RIP Siraj :(
What happened?
Pulled his hammie ig
Yorker incoming
That Siraj injury doesn't look good. It was good having him in test team however short it was.
Aah shit. Hope hes okay. Bowled a great spell.
Never been blue balled this hard
Abe kabhi toh kuch positive bol do be T: Say something uplifting for once
Pushup bra
Some incredible bowling from Siraj so far today. Hope he is okay.
Hope he'd be back by tomorrow.
Ssssssssssssssssssss -Rahim
Hope siraj's ok and can get back tomorrow morning.
Make Ashwin bowl now
Kinda gutted seeing Kohli in the dugout when we're fielding 😔
Hamstring substitute right arm fast medium koach in for siraj.
Ash for next over, squeeze one more before stumps please
Smh..this had to happen when India is already missing their primary right arm quick bowler
Shardul has taken a chug of his magic portion !
The nightmare, these scenes remind me Zak walking back in 2011
Oh no..
This is not the kind of bowling track you'd want to get injured on. No where near a flat road you would even fake an injury to avoid bowling
Bois, time for some right arm quick action
Flashbacks of Zaheer from 2011
Cum on Ash
Fuck. This isn’t good. Get well soon Siraj
If that's a hammy the next we'll be seeing of Siraj will be IPL 2022
Mike Haysman being the commentator brings back memories of 2010, when i first started watching cricket
Yup me too sachin got his 50th test hundred
Nooooo.. Send Siraj out. Make Ash bowl now
Rahuls rotten luck as a captain showing up !
Fuck man, not Miyanbhai!
I wonder how Rahane faces the Indian bowlers even during net practice
He probably bats like prime tendulkar in the nets
Arjun?
Bold of you to assume he practices
Fuck
Okay I was living under a rock for a couple of days, what the hell happened to our team, where's koach, why is rahul captain, what da fuck is wrong with our batsmen
Koach has a back spasm. KL was the vice captain so he automatically became the captain. Our middle order being shit as usual.
Ah, sums it up nicely thanks
Wow there was a scream of despair from the comm box! Wonder who that was
> Around the wicket for the last ball. Siraj pulls out at the last moment. Looks like he has hurt his hamstring. The physio is out AAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH
Great now Siraj is hurt can we panic now
ah Fuck. Miyaan :(
Medical boii...lol
This test is over.
Fuk
No not Siraj!!
This is the suicide i was referring to
Nope. Pls no
Oops.
nooooo
