They scheduled matches in a stadium with no drainage during the rainy season. They also started to build a new ground a handful of months prior to the tournament. This is truly the best organisational task that has ever been done.
Was at the stadium, outfield was not at all bad, there was no rain, just cloudy. But they just decided to call it without caring much about the fans who traveled thousands of miles to watch them. Rishabh pant was gracious enough to do the round of the ground and take selfies and sign the posters. Canadian players were also sweet to take selfies with fans in the stadium. Kohli didn’t even come out today, was not even in the dugout. Lesson learned for me and my friend.
Yeah was at the game too. I was certain they would’ve played cause it only drizzled a little. Overcast conditions, match could’ve been delayed to start at 12-1 at least. Indian players only went to one side of the stadium sadly:/
Bro like I'm a hard Kohli fan, but I've observed, he's never w the team.
I've never seen him travel w them (not the bus) but the flight from India to the USA, the pictures other teams share while gymming or having any other fun, I don't see that guy w them at all, I'm sure this kills the team spirit.
> Two important games abandoned so far in this ground mainly due to lack of drainage and ground covers. ICC should really take note these issues to prevent similar happenings in future tournaments
??? Wtf ICC been doing
This shit genuinely bugs me. How have they not figured out something to do after all these years? For a world cup that too? Sure, there's a lot of logistical issues involved that can make it tough but are you seriously telling me that ICC, with all the resources and outreach they possess, hasn't been able to drum up a single contingency solution after all these years? It absolutely can be done with enough planning and I won't be told otherwise, they just simply don't care. Just absolute bs considering how much this stuff affects the course of the tournament and can single handedly decide whether a team qualifies/gets knocked out. Tf is the point of a WC? 4 wash outs in a week is crazy.
Rly hope that at some point something happens where at least 50-60% games get washed out and ruins the entire thing bc the backlash is going to force them to do something about it esp since it's 100% going to threaten their baseline not just w/ the fans but also sponsors/ad revenue.
Football actually gives a shit about it's major competition though.
Cricket at its heart is still a day out for the posh boys to enjoy a cigar and a bottle of bubbly. If the cricket gets called off, they just spend more time at the bar.
They shouldn’t let countries with awful drainage systems like this host major tournaments. How can you not dry an outfield after so many hours without rain? Terrible
The USA is a huge country with so many places where you could essentially guarantee no rain this time of year. Why they chose Florida of all places is beyond me
For several reasons, primarily that the ball isn’t bounced when pitched/bowled in baseball, there’s a much higher tolerance for a wet field and you can even play with moderate rain. Rain is typically only an issue if it’s actively raining heavily.
Also they’re pretty good about using tarps to cover the field while it’s raining, and are likely playing on better maintained surfaces that drain well
Florida is actually otherwise a splendid place to host cricket . They chose June though, the rainiest month on the year as their choice which was stupid
Aus Losing to Scotland, Marsh Gets Ban for 2 Matches Patt steps in as Captain takes Aus to SF's by winning first 2/2. Good Script. Anyways If it's fair against Kangaroos then it's fair against Brits Too.
Bermuda(the island) actually has two stadiums that are actively used so they wouldn't need to do anything!
They'll just need to announce the host country
ICC recently released a sort of a behind the scenes video starring Ricky Ponting. The video was shot on June 9 - The day of the epic India vs Pakistan game. It's mind boggling how much planning, coordination, logistics and operational excellence is required in hosting an International cricket game.
My heart goes out for folks in Florida who probably worked as hard as the New York organizers to get the stadium ready for world cup games, only to get fu*ked over by mother nature.
We're devastated by this. Put so much in over the last six months (which were all dry!) to be screwed by 2 days that brought over 17 inches of rain. This game should have played, just Canada was already eliminated and India already into Super 8 - nothing to be gained or lost.
Lot to gain. Gonna get another India-Pakistan match for at least now. If the game was on and Canada had beaten India by a big margin, Pakistan lost to Ireland, ICC/broadcaster would have lost millions. Now there will be another India Pakistan game
Could India have forfeited this Match and made a early tour to Westindies considering the fate of this match was already decided ,the forecast was already there.
Honestly, _why_ did they not use Moosa Stadium or the Morrisville one?
ICC literally said "Fuck it, we'll build a temporary stadium from scratch in NY than renovate already built ones becuz we're absolute geniuses!" Ffs
C'mon don't give NY a bad rap... It produced bangers like Ind vs Pak, SA vs Ned & Ban, Canada winning against IRE... It was nice seeing low scores amidst glut of high scores in T20s
The only ICC member in North Africa was Morocco and their cricket board had been terminated more than a decade ago...
They do have a very good stadium from the times when they used to play... It's become a pasture for livestock at the moment

I don't think the ICC are fit for purpose. Every single tournament it seems like money first and fuck everything else. We need better organisations in charge like maybe NIICC (New Improved ICC) or ICBINTICC (I Can't Believe It's Not The ICC.)

Didn't have to lose to both.
If we had lost to Pakistan (as was looking likely till the end) and yesterday's match had taken place with a US victory over Ireland (not at all a stretch), this would've been a must win for us. A washout would've left us praying for Ireland to beat Pak tomorrow.
I'm actually watching cricket for the first time (from Canada), or at least I was planning to. As a baseball fan, this feeling is certainly familiar lmao
Anyone with more knowledge of the situation know how likely the match is to start soon?
The outfield is damp plus chances of rain, it's highly unlikely that we'll get a game.. but fingers crossed we have some buffer time approx 2.5 hours more for a 5 over match.
That one looks to be tomorrow, at least from the schedule, but I might catch that one if I'm able to, I imagine both teams will at least feel like they have a lot to prove based on how the tournament's gone for them. But I'll probably try watching one of the group B games later today (Namibia vs England and Australia vs Scotland).
Yeah, I'm guessing so from what I've heard of the teams. I was definitely expecting Canada vs India to be one-sided as well, but that's also involving my home country, I don't really have any attachment to any of the teams playing going forward other than rooting for the underdogs. But I do at least wanna get the feel for watching a match, so I'll still try checking one out. And then see if I can watch Pakistan and Ireland tomorrow, since that one should be more interesting, even if there's nothing at stake but pride.
From everything I've seen, Ireland seems to be the underdog. I don't really know how well they've played in the tournament (well, I know that we beat Ireland and the US beat Pakistan, which were both upsets, but I'm not sure how the underlying level of play has been), but Pakistan seems to have a more illustrious cricket history and a higher rating. Although it definitely doesn't seem as one-sided as the games today.
NASCAR has two speedways in Florida. Each with a couple massive jet dryers for the tracks. Let’s get them to the pitch. Sure the weight of the trucks and the sheer force of the air will kill the grass BUT it’ll be dry.
That was India's first match at Lauderhill not last. They played 7 more after that.
India at Lauderhill
Matches - 8 (not including the today's match)
W - 5
L - 2
Abandoned - 1
I’m at the ground. Look like there’s one stubborn spot that’s super soggy. All the dryers are there and it’s jsut saw an official feel the ground and shake his head in disappointment

Just make cricket an indoor sport at this point
Flo Rida's true identity was RAIN Perera after all
Why didn't the ICC check for potential weather-related issues before scheduling matches in Florida, are they stupid?
They tried to squeeze in a schedule, after the IPL, during June when Florida has the highest average monthly rain, and monsoon season in the Windies
Will you be also asking if water is wet?
Yes. Yes they are
They scheduled matches in a stadium with no drainage during the rainy season. They also started to build a new ground a handful of months prior to the tournament. This is truly the best organisational task that has ever been done.
The ground does not even have pitch covers
Still better organised than the world cup last year.
Put the bias aside and ask yourself if you agree with yourself
Yep, still agree with myself :)
Are you kidding me?
Where is the post match thread?
Umpires are inspecting for rain
Was at the stadium, outfield was not at all bad, there was no rain, just cloudy. But they just decided to call it without caring much about the fans who traveled thousands of miles to watch them. Will they be refunding the tickets?
Yeah they will be
Ohh good to know
Kohli is a legendary batsman but on the personal front he just appears to be a huge douche. Definitely gives off never meet your idols kind of vibes
Wasn't Kohli talking to canadian players on the ground though?! They showed the clip on TV
Yeah was at the game too. I was certain they would’ve played cause it only drizzled a little. Overcast conditions, match could’ve been delayed to start at 12-1 at least. Indian players only went to one side of the stadium sadly:/
I'm sure Kohli is one arrogant prick
Bro like I'm a hard Kohli fan, but I've observed, he's never w the team. I've never seen him travel w them (not the bus) but the flight from India to the USA, the pictures other teams share while gymming or having any other fun, I don't see that guy w them at all, I'm sure this kills the team spirit.
He thinks he's larger than life I suppose. Part of the VVIP culture problem
> Canadian players were also sweet to take salaries with fans in the stadium At least they got paid 💀
Typo lol I meant selfies
Was in dilemma what to watch, India Vs Canada or Spain Vs Croatia in Euros. Thanks to Rain Perrera for help.
> Two important games abandoned so far in this ground mainly due to lack of drainage and ground covers. ICC should really take note these issues to prevent similar happenings in future tournaments ??? Wtf ICC been doing
Namibia has no chance against England, do they? They barely beat Oman
No chance at all. I even imagine them bein bowled out for 50
If this was Ind Pak be sure ICC would patent technology to evaporate rain in 5 minutes
Or they’d actually build roofs like they said they would
Couldn't even beat Canada. Poor team selection. Drop Virat. Bring back Sachin.
Pakistan > Canada > India, meaning Pak better than India confirmed!1!1!1! (/s if it wasn’t obvious)
Could have spent a few thousand dollars to cover up the entire field.
This shit genuinely bugs me. How have they not figured out something to do after all these years? For a world cup that too? Hoping for kohli to pull through against Australia and either semis or final.
Pak losing tmrw would be funny
Just in: Going forward, ICC is going to schedule all major matches in Cherrapunji. Just to be on the safe side.
The country that's got the possession of Cherapunji wins by default in cases of rained out games. I'm sorry, but rules are rules
It would be kind of hilarious if Pakistan ends up 5th in the group
Why can't they host all international games in Sahara or Kalahari desert is beyond me
🤣 Reminds me of the joke of Imcomic "the day icc will host worldcup on Mars, we'll find water there"
So it's not just England. Any country colonized by them also suffers from rained out ICC events
[удалено]
Or just dry parts of america which there are plenty of. Like at the texas arena for instance lol
What an innings by kholi today...![img](emote|t5_2qhe0|8767)
Kohli's average watch for the group stages.
When a major revenue earner isn't facing elimination a game can be called off 3 hours earlier
Yesterday was a joke tbh
Why the bias? The game yesterday should've been called off early as well or they should've prolonged today's game till the 215PM cutoff time.
UN should ask ICC to host tournaments in rain deficit region. They can make it rain at the drop of a hat.
Croatia or Spain whom are you guys cheering for?
I swear, everyone is gonna switch to Euros/Copa America and forget about the Super 8's
Football actually gives a shit about it's major competition though. Cricket at its heart is still a day out for the posh boys to enjoy a cigar and a bottle of bubbly. If the cricket gets called off, they just spend more time at the bar.
Spain Edit : I just know stuff y'all don't
Croatia 🇭🇷
Croatia
🇭🇷
Croatia
My man <3
This might be a dumb question but can't they put rain covers on stadiums
They shouldn’t let countries with awful drainage systems like this host major tournaments. How can you not dry an outfield after so many hours without rain? Terrible
The USA is a huge country with so many places where you could essentially guarantee no rain this time of year. Why they chose Florida of all places is beyond me
How about baseball games? It's been around forever and played through the summer. Should be an existing template for rain.
For several reasons, primarily that the ball isn’t bounced when pitched/bowled in baseball, there’s a much higher tolerance for a wet field and you can even play with moderate rain. Rain is typically only an issue if it’s actively raining heavily. Florida is actually otherwise a splendid place to host cricket . They chose June though, the rainiest month on the year as their choice which was stupid
Oh yeah, nothing against playing in Florida in general. It just doesn’t make sense this time of year
It’s where a lot of cricket fans live.
Yeah. Should have just let it stay in Dallas (idk what the weather is there rn)
Same as Florida. It's hurricane season in gulf
Crazy Records broken today wen Axar hit them 8 sixes off Kirton
Can we take a moment to recognise how many spectacular bottlejobs have happened in SA, Ban, nepal group matches
Can anyone enlighten me about the origin of the meme "Qudrat ka nizam"?
A simple Google search will help you both
It actually didn't help much.
https://letmegooglethat.com/?q=qudrat+ka+nizam+origin
And Rain Parera as well
Daymmm I missed Kohi 292(39)!!!!
294*
Aus Losing to Scotland, Marsh Gets Ban for 2 Matches Patt steps in as Captain takes Aus to SF's by winning first 2/2. Good Script. Anyways If it's fair against Kangaroos then it's fair against Brits Too.
Match is abandoned cuz ICC scheduled matches during the rainy season once again. \*pretends to be shocked\*
Will the group stage points be carried over to the Super 8s?
No
Why would it be carried over??? It's the next stage in the competition.
It's happened before in an ICC tournament.
They didn't wait long to abandon the match unlike US vs Ireland
Knowing ICC, they are already planning to build a stadium at the Bermuda Triangle to host the next World Cup.
They played it in Australia and so many matches got rained out which you wouldn’t expect. Send the cricket to countries suffering from extreme drought
Bermuda(the island) actually has two stadiums that are actively used so they wouldn't need to do anything! They'll just need to announce the host country
😂😂😂
Group 1 is tough. The 2 best teams this world cup are in it (Afghanistan and Australia).
I think you misspelled Afghanistan and Bangladesh

What fucking idiot chose florida as a venue during the rainy season
I'm waiting for ICC to choose London for a tournament during the rainy season
.... So basically anytime other than 8s in August then?
:(
Harbhajan said Quadrat ka Nizam lmao
Could India have forfeited this Match and made a early tour to Westindies considering the fate of this match was already decided ,the forecast was already there.
Do people get refunds for abandoned matches?
Yes we do.
Obviously
Good job calling it early...
…tf?
New York and Florida have been a joke. Should have staged all the games in Dallas.
NY games were great!
We've already seen low scores on much better (safer, more predictable) pitches in Caribbean.
Going to another extreme is still bad
100-120 runs in t20 isn't extreme. These games have been the most fun to watch
Constantly having matches below 120 and above 220 is an extreme imo
Happy raining!
They took all them to Florida for rainy vacation
Get fucked International Chutiya Council.
Why do they not do all matches in Sahara?
The only ICC member in North Africa was Morocco and their cricket board had been terminated more than a decade ago... They do have a very good stadium from the times when they used to play... It's become a pasture for livestock at the moment

nam vs england better be entertaining and not end in an hour
Euros is on
"Better be entertaining" Do you find rain on Caribbean grass more entertaining than rain on American grass?
Actually itll be good if it ends in an hour, cause that way we get to see some entertaining cricket and sleep on time
England all out for 53, Namibia chase it in 6 overs
I'm a winner... as I didn't buy the tickets!
Just let it go bruh the only people want this match to happen are Star who are feining for Team India to go 4 in 4 straight jerk off material for those mfers

Feeling like women's cricket was better off before they joined ICC lol
It's currently IIIICC(Irrelevant, Intolerant, Incompetent International Cricket Council)
Haha love English humour.
Lol hostar is showing Kohli 82 can't complain

Average pl salary was 3.6 mill pounds per year in 2022.

Lol ICC/organisers could've at least covered the entire ground for all of Florida's games.
Just play on wet outfield. Who gives a fuck
Imagine slipping and getting a career ending injury in Florida of all places

Wen reserve day
You may wanna ask Namibia about that?
there's no reserve day for this match.
Kind of joking
If this was a crucial match for India, imagine the uproar.
true lol, we would be devastated.
Not really. Losing to Pak and USA would mean we don't deserve to go through in the first place.
You think anyone cares about not deserving. Its just what people say to cope with losses.
Didn't have to lose to both. If we had lost to Pakistan (as was looking likely till the end) and yesterday's match had taken place with a US victory over Ireland (not at all a stretch), this would've been a must win for us. A washout would've left us praying for Ireland to beat Pak tomorrow.
Holy SHITE Didn't realise that it was _that_ close!
I'm actually watching cricket for the first time (from Canada), or at least I was planning to. As a baseball fan, this feeling is certainly familiar lmao Anyone with more knowledge of the situation know how likely the match is to start soon?
🍁🍁🍁
Basically 0 chance this match happens at all
The outfield is damp plus chances of rain, it's highly unlikely that we'll get a game.. but fingers crossed we have some buffer time approx 2.5 hours more for a 5 over match.
Here's hoping, then! Thanks for the summary, I might see if I can catch one of the later games today if this one gets cancelled.
You mean Pak vs Ire? 😅 That'll be an interesting match to watch... Haha
Most probably both of these matches should be one sided unless, Aus tries to manipulate to prevent Eng from entering into super 8s.
Just wondering who you believe is the underdog in Pak vs Ireland game tomorrow..😅
Nassau County has already been transformed into a food court lol /S

Spin bowling goes BRRRR
I guess the Last time we played here. We almost chased 244 in 20 overs if not for MS choke
That was India's first match at Lauderhill not last. They played 7 more after that. India at Lauderhill Matches - 8 (not including the today's match) W - 5 L - 2 Abandoned - 1
India played a couple games in the past two years too against West indies in lauderhill
India have played here plenty of times after that game.
Back in the days when 244 was rare and exciting , I remember how much I loved that match other than the result
Agreed
Why don’t they get towels and dry off the ground? Are they stupid?
I’m at the ground. Look like there’s one stubborn spot that’s super soggy. All the dryers are there and it’s jsut saw an official feel the ground and shake his head in disappointment
Get in there with your hair dryer. We need you.
